    My tasting
    Michele F.

I discovered this winery today and had a great time speaking with the friendly staff and trying some of their wines. I decided on the 2oz flight of 4 tastings, and they let me try several wines beforehand to help me narrow down my choices. I don't like oaky or tanniny wines, so here's what I ended up trying: Rhapsody (my favorite by far), Chardonel (sweet with a tart apple like finish), Gentle Press Rose (ok, not as much flavor as the first two) and Merlot (smooth with a dry finish). There was indoor and outdoor seating. I chose to sit outside, which had a view of some of the vineyards. There were families and others on the deck enjoying the nice day. I enjoyed this winery and plan on returning.

How many times have you gone to a winery and liked everyone of their wines on the tasting flight? Crazy, but absolutely true. I loved Fifty-Third Winery. The scenery is absolutely stunning. Thank you to Tony, for helping us with our wine flight selections. She was so much fun and her wine recommendations were spot on. We also ordered a cheese and pepperoni platter. It was very good. The winery looks new and is well organized. Our flight and food came out quickly and efficiently. This is a bit of a drive, but if you are looking for great wine, excellent service, and tasty food selections, then Fifty Third winery is the place to go. I also wanted to mention that their prices were great. Thanks Fifty Third Winery for a spectacular time.

A winery/vineyard that will always remain in my Top 10. Fifty-Third is really a total package. A vast and quality wine list for anyone looking to have dry reds to sweet whites. Fifty-Third not only has tasty wines but an ever growing footprint. This gives plenty of space indoors/outdoors for wine club members and visitors to enjoy the sites and sounds. The owner, staff and winemaker are on another level with how important they make you feel while visiting - yet another reason to make a person want to visit and hang out. Zero pretentious vibes here!! Food trucks and live music are occasional and never make the ears bleed here (at least not during my visits lol).

Attentive service, beautiful views, nice wines, and still small enough to be "homey" (not overrun with buses of people and oodles of rambunctious children). I am not going to be apologetic about my view on this - while some may like a lot of hustle-bustle and don't mind waiting in lines, masses of people, and a playground full of kids running all over while sipping on a glass of vino, not me. Somewhere betwixt and between is the sweet spot, and 53rd hits it. They allow you to bring your own food (and we did) as nothing beyond small, prepackaged nibbles are offered. However, I would gladly trade the presence of food for scenic views and welcoming hosts with good wines accompanied by a dose of serenity. There is seating inside and out, and wine flights as well as wine by the glass. A delightful afternoon not far from Richmond. Family owned, and by folks who really care about customer service. I'm so glad this sunny (and near-enough) place was recommended to me, and I now recommend it to you, the reader of this review!

This winery definitely deserves 5 stars. 1st time my mother and I got to visit and let me tell you they exemplified in customer service. Both Tony and Marie made this a special experience, they took a lot of time helping us with the wine tasting, specifically with the Rosés and made it one we will never forget! Also, totally recommend The Graze snack box!

Wine club pick up day is a hit again. Staff is fabulous and knowledgeable. Just come. You'll love it.

This venue is amazing. The wine is top notch. Low renin in some so you won't feel yucky tomorrow. Always lots of pups to love on. Wine club members get 2 complimentary glasses a day-yes two!!!

We are red wine drinkers. The whites were good but the red blends were very smooth and had a wonderful, but lite oak finish.

Both helpful with tips on what to order from their beer and wine options based off what we told them of our tastes. The grounds and building were very well kept. We chose to sit outside so our kids could run around (6 kids between us and our friend's family). They tried to light a fire for us, but that was the one downfall: all the fuel was wet from recent rain I think, so the fire never really took and we just had smoke for a while and no warmth or flames to enjoy watching. But they tried! We enjoyed all the wines we sampled, and went home with one bottle. All that I tried were dry, well-bodied and smooth. My husband only found the beer so-so, so next time we go he'll probably stick to the wines that he also enjoyed from tasting my flight. The soft pretzels are huge, delicious and delivered hot and fresh. The cheese sauce for dipping them was really tasty and much better than most cheese sauce offered for soft pretzels elsewhere. The staff was very courteous, offering us blankets as it was chilly outside and they saw the fire wasn't thriving. We are only 25 minutes from them, and we'll definitely go back; we were very happy with our visit!

The tasting room is small when entering and the room we sat in was very tiny but cozy and felt like an old English cottage but they also had another room that was pretty full that day. The wines were good as well as the cookies which were made by a bakery in Orange called Mary's Mountain Cookies. Being cat people, my friend and I especially loved visiting with the winery cat who was making himself at home in one of the chairs. After the self guided tasting and pairing, we did go to the bar to taste a couple of their other wines that weren't a part of the flight and we were then able to interact with the owners a bit which is always my favorite part of visiting a winery. This was a fun visit. We'll be back.

I decided to do their 8 option tasting and really enjoyed learning about Virginia's wines and grapes, having recently moved here from the Pacific Northwest. Out of all of the wines I tasted, my favorites were the Duo (white viognier/chardonnay blend), the Founded 1734 (red blend), and the Vin Gris (merlot/cab franc blush). Bonus, you get to keep the cute glass after your tasting! This was a great place to visit, run by a super friendly couple, with many great wines. I will definitely be back!

I would not recommend Prospect Hill Inn as a wedding venue…read more My daughter chose this venue because we were repeatedly told that if we communicated our wishes ahead of time, everything would be handled and we could simply relax and enjoy the wedding day. Unfortunately, our experience was the exact opposite. Upon arrival, we had to carry all of our belongings and wedding items down paths to the cabins ourselves. Although golf carts were available on the property, no assistance was offered. Prior to the wedding, we provided decorations and special charms that were to be attached to my daughter's bouquet in memory of grandparents who had passed away. We were assured that everything would be taken care of. On the morning of the wedding, we were asked when the bouquet was needed and stated 4:00 p.m. for pictures. By 4:15 p.m., we had received no communication. Multiple texts to the owner went unanswered. When I finally reached her by phone, she was not even on the property and said she would not be back for another 30 minutes. The wedding was scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. I ended up locating the bouquet myself. The memorial charms had not been attached, and no one knew where they were. At 5:00 p.m., the owner still had not arrived, and no staff member seemed to know what was happening or what needed to be done. Our family was left coordinating the wedding ourselves. The ceremony was delayed until 5:30 p.m., which affected photography since the photographer was only contracted for a limited amount of time. To make matters worse, when it was time for the couple's first dance, the owner told my daughter that she knew nothing about it, despite it being included in the contract and paid for as part of the package. We were then rushed through photos because dinner was scheduled for 7:00 p.m., even though many of the delays stemmed from the lack of coordination earlier in the day. The owner also interrupted the couple's send-off over a pen issue that could have been handled later. The problems continued throughout our stay. The air conditioning in our cabin failed on the final night, leaving us in uncomfortable temperatures above 80 degrees. When we politely shared our concerns before leaving, hoping for an explanation or apology, none was offered. Instead, responsibility was shifted back onto us. We were also owed a credit on our account. Initially, we were told it could not be refunded because the original card used for booking had been closed. After considerable discussion, a cash refund was finally offered. However, when my daughter picked it up, it was $21 short. We were told this was for breakfast-in-bed delivery for the newlyweds, despite previously being told that this was included in the wedding package. Perhaps most disappointing of all, when the newlyweds checked out, the owner would not speak with them. This was a weekend that should have been focused on celebrating my daughter's wedding. Instead, we spent much of it dealing with issues that we had specifically been assured would be handled by the venue. We left feeling disappointed, stressed, and unsupported.

You also have the option to build your own flight, which I always love. The 2024 rosé is a standout, we picked up several bottles to bring home. We could not believe how good the food was- it was worth a trip in its own right! It's on the pricier side but it is clear why, the plates wouldn't be out of place at a fine dining restaurant.
