This company was terrific for quite a while, until they weren't. And, once they started going downhill, they continued to do so, very rapidly! I was using them for a couple of my Kitties' meds, but the first time that they failed to ship out my orders, I was very upset and disappointed. However, given the fact, that we all make mistakes, I gave them another chance, but when it happened again, I decided that it was too much of a risk to continue relying on them for my Babies' meds. We needed compounded cyclosporine eye drops for our senior dog that was recently diagnosed with dry eye. Since our vet's office has an online pharmacy, we ordered a 5 mL bottle through their website, which we then found out came from Roadrunner Pharmacy. Everything is listed as "free shipping" so I went ahead and ordered one 5 mL bottle. At check out, I nearly choked that it was $40 for the cyclosporine and an additional $16 for a "handling fee" - even though it was sent via USPS! Yikes! It did arrive in several days (which is the ONLY reason I'm giving them 2 stars). Come time around for me to re-order, I lived with the fact that the medication itself was expensive (I've previously had a dog with eye issues), but now I was going to order 2 bottles, hoping I'd save on the handling fee. Nope! Now the handling fee was $17.40, and while cheaper than ordering two separately, I was still outraged. Do the math: two 5 mL bottles plus handling came to a total of $97.40! On my next visit to the vet, I complained about the steep costs of this medication that she would need to be using for the rest of her life. I told him that, in my opinion, this was extortion. My vet was very sympathetic and proceeded to do some research on alternative compounding veterinary pharmacies. He gave me the names of three (two were out of state and one was in downtown Houston, which is about 25 miles from me). I called the pharmacy that's downtown and was quoted a price of $57.50 for a 15 mL bottle (yes, that's three times the amount of what I was getting), with a $12 shipping charge if I chose to have it sent to me. However, since it's only about a 30 minute drive into town, I figured we could pick it up, meaning there would be no additional charge other than for the meds itself. Think about it. I would receive triple the amount of medication for less than half of what Roadrunner was charging. When you have a dog that is on multiple medications due to their advancing age, every penny counts. Buyer beware: shop around before you order anything compounded from Roadrunner. You may be able to find it at significant savings elsewhere. read more

Is your pet sick with a chronic illness and/or terminal? Avoid Roadrunner / Conexis if you have any options at all, otherwise you'll be having a bad time like the rest of us. We've been getting gabapentin in the mini tabs for a year now and every refill is worse than the last. Poor quality tablets arrive broken or explode into dust if you put the teensiest bit of pressure on them. If my cat spits the tablet out, it's impossible to reattempt with the same tablet. We waste a lot of medication because of this. In January, they had the nerve to increase the cost by $30 per fill but quality was as bad as ever. Got a refill authorized on Tuesday and now I see there's a bullshit handling fee as well. I completed the online form Tuesday night and was told my medication shipped Wednesday from AZ... one state over. The delivery estimate is next Wednesday.... A full week. I could walk to AZ faster. Our other vet uses Wedgewood and despite having a similar online experience and also being in AZ, we got our meds from Wedgewood on the cheapest shipping option in 2 days. So better performance is absolutely achievable and reasonable, but Roadrunner gives zero fucks about pets or their families. They just want your money. read more

Recently refilled via their online system, got confirmation of the order with a tracking number. Now almost 3 weeks later, called them to see where order is and they say "we emailed you and told you the product was out of stock". Not sure what this means since it is compounded product. THIS PHARMACY POISONED MY CAT!! There is no option to give 0 stars, so here we are. I would also like to note, this incident happened 2 years ago, and i have been festering my feelings towards this establishment since then, and i felt called to warn others of my story. My cat takes Fluoxetine for anxiety. At the time he was taking 3mg of this medication mixed in his wet food at night for dinner. We received his new refill and slowly over a 3 day period our cat would not finish his dinner, which forced us to give him his medication separately by mouth. So for the following 3 days we were forcing a pill down his throat, giving him no option but to take his full 3mg dose. Side note: you CANNOT cut out these types of meds cold turkey so we knew we had to force him to take it, even though we could tell he was starting to act a little weird. In the middle of the night on the 3rd night of him getting the full dose, i woke up to my cat howling and screaming followed by projectile vomiting and more howling. We rushed him to an er vet where they concluded that he had ingested some type of poison and was on the brink of dying. That vet suggested checking on a few things in our home as well as following up on the new bottle of medication we he just received to make sure nothing in the compound had changed. WELL....... After waiting an entire day to hear back, Roadrunner notified us that they had in fact made a mistake. Instead of compounding his medication at a 3mg dose, THEY COMPOUNDED IT AT 30MG DOSE!!!! THIRTY MG!!!!!!!!! In turn POISONING OUR INNOCENT SWEET CAT WITH MEDICATION THAT HIS POOR LITTLE BODY ABSOLUTELY COULD NOT HANDLE. And would you like to know how they compensated there mistake after A LOT of fight on our end for this result....... They covered the 1 bottle of medication and the emergency vet bill. This alone is an absolute shame. And i beg you please take your business else where. I understand mistakes happen but this is completely unacceptable. PERIOD. So far so good. Tricki the petulant papillon needed some meds for her tumultuous tummy issues so my vet recommended Roadrunner for her compounding needs. I got a call the same day Tricki's doc called in the prescription and the person on the phone went over the type of med, costs, compounding dosage, flavor (Mm vanilla butternut?), and asked if I had any other questions. The order was shipped to me in 2 days I think and it was very nicely packaged. Everything was secured with a layer of bubble wrap and there were detailed instructions included. It even came with a cute dog toy! I do have those worries about compounding in general since you're at the mercy of the person making your med to make sure they are mixing everything in the right concentration but as far as I know everything's been fine giving my dog her meds. I just received a disturbing message from the pharmacy that I used for the blood pressure medication script to deal with my cat's high blood pressure transdermal Amlodipine 1.25mg. That said, I am almost due for a refill. I received this message from the Roadrunner Pharmacy when I asked about the upcoming refill and when it would ship: "Dear Mihalis, Our records show that you are due for an automatic delivery of Amlodipine (from Besylate) ClickDose Transdermal 60 clicks per pen (compounded) for Kiki. Unfortunately, we are not able to process this shipment due to a manufacturer backorder. We will automatically ship your order if the product comes back in stock within the next 90 days. If the product remains backordered for more than 90 days, you will need to reschedule your AutoShip or place a new order if/when it is available again. You will not be charged for this item until it ships. If you need this product immediately, we recommend you contact your veterinarian to discuss alternative options." Obviously, no one can wait 90 days when taking a blood pressure medication for it to perhaps come back into stock... and maybe it won't! In the meantime, my cat could have a stroke. I was stunned to receive such an absurd email about a medication from a pharmacy that my cat needs to survive and for them to expect any pet owner to simply do nothing for 90 days! I've been looking everywhere - locally and online - for my dog's heart medication. The scarcity was honestly a little scary. Despite this, Roadrunner said they could compound it, and they worked very quickly with the vet to verify the prescription. It spent a bit more time in transit than I would have liked, but if that's the worst thing I can say, I'll just learn to order with a few extra days' notice. I have mixed feelings about this company. One of my dogs was diagnosed with Cushing's. Previous to that this is the company my vet had me go through for ear drops for another pet. Everything seemed to be going well with my Cushing's dog until his prescription changed. Within 24 hours his health declined dramatically and within three days he was admitted to the hospital. The first thing his primary vet did was ask me to double check the bottle and make sure it was the right dosage. He said my pet appeared to have the reaction of ingesting chocolate, grapes or radiator fluid, none of which had happened. The bottle said the stated dosage but as for the pills I will never know as they are not imprinted at all. My dog never recovered and I will never trust this pharmacy again for any oral medication. I have been using Roadrunner Pharmacy for one of my dog's medicines for years. I put in the order when his liquid medication reaches a certain level and so far, I have always received it on time. I like the convenience, and I love that they include a small dog toy free in every order. There is ONE THING I don't like. That it takes so long to get medicine from them. Monday morning EARLY, I ordered another refill. I called them back on Tuesday to be sure the vet approved the refill. Then on Thursday, I realized I had not received a ship-out notice which Roadrunner sends with a tracking link when they ship your pet's meds. So I called them mid-day as soon as I realized that. And found out my dog's medication is not even FILLED yet!! Even though the vet approved it days earlier!! I was SO upset - I HAD BEEN just about to transfer my OTHER dog's medicine to them, but now I know I can't be sure of good service, I won't. I don't want my dogs in pain. The woman I talked to went and talked to her supervisor who expedited the ship-out. So now I have a ship-out email, but the tracking link is not active yet which means it will ship out this evening and I won't get it until Monday (hopefully) or possibly not until Tuesday. Took 4 days to find this out because first they said one flavor was still available, then a different flavor, then only available in a different dose, then no favors left at all. This took several phone calls over 4 days and 2 different charges to my credit card. Had to find another compounding pharmacy and have vet transfer the Rx. Very stressful. The only reason I didn't rate them lower was that they sent me a liquid version free of charge but I haven't tried it yet. My cat runs away when she senses it's med time so the chews worked well and easy when someone takes care of her when we're on vacation. My family and I have been using Roadrunner for at LEAST the last 11 years, going back to when my first kitty developed hyperthyroidism. My vets thought the best approach would be a transdermal (= goes onto the skin) gel for Kitty. He has since passed, but his sister-from-another-motha' is now in her 20s and has also developed the condition. She's now on the same meds. The process is simple: My vet calls in the script, Roadrunner calls me, I call them back to pay (either with an operator or via automated system with my script and cc info), and I get the medication within 5 business (BUSINESS!) days. Since I'm always on the run and usually don't have the Rx number, I've consistently opted to speak to a customer service rep. They've always been friendly and quick with my transactions! They've also been flexible if I need to change the shipping address in order to ensure I receive the meds at the optimal location. TiP: Make sure you're in contact with Roadrunner when you have at LEAST 10 days left of meds. I'd shoot for 14 days to be on the safe side. (Again, you need to take BUSINESS days into consideration!) In all of these years, I've never ONCE had an issue receiving the meds, and IMO that's saying something! They always send a well-cushioned box that includes the meds, a kitty toy (awh, thanks!), and dosage/application instructions. The BEST part? They're a bit generous with the transdermal gel, so each syringe always has 1 extra dose packed in past the end line. I totally appreciate that! The prices are reasonable -- I pay about $55 for 2 syringes of gel (3ml each, 6ml total), which lasts 2 months (3ml = 30 doses; 6ml = 60 doses). That means Kitty's meds cost me less than $1 per day. Several weeks ago I took my dog Congee to a different vet. He's a 5 year old dog that acts like he's 15. The new vet prescribed the same medication he's always been on, but recommended a generic brand and told me about a pharmacy that would call me to fulfill the prescription. Compared to what I'd paid at 1-800-PET MEDS - $65 for a 1 month supply, I now pay $37 for a 2 month supply. It was all pretty low effort for me, but I think it probably helped that the vet office works with Road Runner pharmacy as I didn't have to go through the regular hassle of getting Pet Meds the prescription from the vet. RoadRunner called me up (fast, efficient and very professional) ... took all my credit card info over the phone and 2 days later I got the package in the mail (Free shipping!). Have been using this pharmacy now for more than 6 years for our special needs dog. Due to his chronic condition he requires 3 compounded meds, once of which is doxycycline a human med. The price of that one skyrocketed in the last few years at human pharmacies and roadrunner offers the best prices. They have free shipping. I live in Hawaii. We are always exceptions to this rule for businesses that promise free shipping but roadrunner honors that yes we are part of the US too. They send it within five business days. They send a free toy that my dog gets really excited about whenever he sees me opening the packaging. Now, I understand the limitations of a mail order pharmacy. I make sure to call and confirm any new prescriptions. When I moved I called to make sure the address was changed. I would never expect to get an emergency med from a mail order pharmacy. I call for refills way ahead of time. I only let my dog play with the toy initially while I watch and then take it away bc yes it's made in China as are many things. I don't expect a high quality made in the USA organic wool toy as a free toy. I just enjoy my dog's reaction to his new toy. Another perk of using this business. Roadrunner was the only pharmacy I could find that would make my cat's medication in a form that she could swallow. The Vet prescribed the most disgusting tasting medications: metronidazole and tylosin/tylan. Roadrunner was able to compound the drugs into a vanilla flavored tablet the size of a baby aspirin and a capsule the size of a tick tac. After many months of my cat being very ill and losing half her body weight, she is now getting her meds and feeling much better. I'm not a vet, but I've been working in vet clinics for roughly 20 years and have worked at several clinics that utilize this pharmacy. They used to be great and very customer oriented, but ever since they were acquired by Covetrus things have gone steeply downhill. It used to be that they stood behind their products. Not so anymore. The clinic where I work prescribes methimazole in the transdermal gel form, which Roadrunner sells in click pens that are rather prone to being defective. It's kind of annoying, but in the past all that we needed to do was call and they'd immediately overnight a replacement. The last time this happened I had to give measurements of the remaining medicine (very little had been used because the pen never worked right) and wait for a "resolution team" to get back to me - which they did by saying that the next order would be discounted by $7.87 - a fraction of the cost of the medication. When I called to challenge the decision and ask about the change in policy, I was actually laughed at by the Covetrus representative who handled the call. They also had a policy of sending new prescriptions overnight and refills in 2-3 days. Also not so anymore. Now new prescriptions are sent 2 day shipping and if you call past Tuesday, you'd better hope there's no shipping delay or your sick patient could end up waiting a week to get their necessary prescription. It's ridiculous. This once great business got swallowed up by a huge company that cares far more about pinching pennies than they do about the pets that are depending on these medications to stay alive. read more

I use this pharmacy to fill my cat's transdermal prozac. He is anxious and aggressive when not medicated, and kitty prozac has made him a cuddly happy cat. Except... twice now when using a new syringe of the meds he has suddenly reverted to his old aggressive and upset self... when a new syringe of cream is switched to, he's back to being cuddly and sweet. Serious quality assurance problems. This has happened on two separate occasions when switching to a new refill of the meds so I know it's some sort of pharmacy error with dosing or something. I'm looking for a new compounding pharmacy. My other cat is hyperthyroid and it would be disastrous and potentially fatal if his transdermal meds got messed up. Edited to add: Just a couple weeks after writing this My hyperthyroid cat got a new refill and is now back to being as weak and sick as he was before we medicated him. We called Roadrunner yesterday (friday) and told them and they said they'd have someone "check the logs" on MONDAY and get back to us. My cat hasn't eaten in two days, is vomiting everywhere, super weak, can't hold his head up, and they expect us to wait all weekend to see if they made a dangerous mistake with his meds. I live in Virginia and my three month old adoped kitten had coccidia. I tried dealing with a local pharmacy to compound her medication for me and for three days, this local pharmacy lied to me and told me there was a national shortage of the medication. Our kitten had diarreha and we were so afraid she would dehydrate. My vet suggested contacting Roadrunner. I called Roadrunner and they told me that there was NOT a national shortage and I would have the medication in hand the next day. True to their word, the medication was in my hands the next day and the first dose was given to our kitten less than 24 hours after I made the call to Roadrunner. First I want to say that the Pharmacist was very nice and helpful once we got our Rx but getting it filled is such a pain. Roadrunner has been the default pharmacy for my vet and things have gone down hill since I started filling they them. First, they never told me they were local and I could pick up a Rx the first time we ordered. Shipping alone was $50 when I live only 10 minutes away! Second, getting a Rx filled takes 48 hrs or more. They don't even call you until they've had the Rx for 24 hrs. Then they won't fill it until you pay. So they won't quote you a price when you drop it off. I called on Friday with a urgent Rx and they said they would have it ready by Monday (because they are closed on the weekend but my vet friend said they actually work on Sat). By noon Monday the Rx was approved and sitting waiting for billing but they weren't planning on calling until later that day and not filling it until Thursday. Had I know than dropping an Rx on Friday wouldn't get done till Tuesday I would have taken it to a place that could have it filled right away. read more

I am a prescribing veterinarian who has used this compounding pharmacy for decades. Several months ago, I ordered a prescription for my mother's dog. I requested that the medication be expeditiously sent. I was told that it would be sent out the same day, as the product that I ordered was proactively kept in stock. 3 days later, I had to stir things up to get the urgently needed medication in the mail. 8 days, ago, I called to reorder a refill. As I was given a very good price for a larger quantity, I spoke to the pharmacist to arrange for a larger number of the chews. I was assured that the product would be sent that same day. Once again, this time 2 days later, the customer rep called. This time he him-hawed about the billing. I reminded him that we had discussed the billing 2 days ago. Then he hit me with a significantly higher cost. I declined and reverted to the previous amount of medication, as the patient by now was out of medicine. Today, 6 days later, a person left a message on my voicemail saying that they were going send the Rx to Houston NEXT WEEK. to be filled. She then said to call if I wanted to use a different formulation. By now, the patient was in a medical dilemma. No medicine for 6 days. And they won't even send the Rx to Houston, until next week. I am a veterinarian. I am only as good as my support team. Unfortunately, I no longer have any faith in Roadrunner Pharmacy. In every case, the Roadrunner staff acknowledged my issue, but offered NO solution. The apathy was sad. Take this for what it's worth. It's too late for excuses or placating.
