I'm a 4 yr patient with my healthy 6 yr old mix. They require a $100. Dr visit to give me a medication for travel? Just no.

I had just lost my dog 6 hours after I brought her to Squaw Peak. She was 15 and had started coughing and having breathing problems. I tried a course of antibiotics. I had no idea she was that close to death to die at home 6 hours later. My French bulldog who is recovering from the ER with aspiration pneumonia was having problems this morning breathing! I called to try to get him in and they would NOT accommodate my request. I live across the street and have had other dogs seen by them in the past. The receptionist simply would not accommodate my need with my one year old French bulldog. This is totally unacceptable that they are not compassionate to a long time neighbor and previous client. The death of my dog six hours after being seen must have caused my very sick one year old frenchie's rejection. I asked for Mike who I had been a client of and everyday that I asked for an appt. I was told he wasn't available, not today, not tomorrow and not the day after that. This is not appropriate behavior when a vet takes a vow to take care of animals. read more

Highly recommend Squaw Peak Animal Hospital. I had a referral from a friend to Squaw Peak. They are the best! The office is well run by the friendly front desk, clean, and the vet care is outstanding. My Aussie had a spay. The incision was small, and so well done. She rested comfortably with medicine and by the fourth day she was looking well again. The office followed up to be sure she was doing fine. Beside great care there was no additional upselling. Don't go here!! So overpriced !! We used to go but switched. They also have a poof system to notify when vaccines are due so we didn't realize our dog was due for all her shots until we tried to get her groomed. We found another vet to get all her shots for much cheaper but they were booked out for a while. When I called last week to ask about getting her rabies they had tons of appointments to pick from. I called back today to try and get the rabies but after informing them we had switched vets they were all of a sudden booked out for over a month. Weird. read more

I have always loved dogs and can't remember a time in my life when I didn't have at least two. Since I regard these "pets" to be mynfury family members, they get the best treatment possible. Over the past 15 years, I was happy with Squaw Peak Animal Hospital - until the changes in ownership and doctors a couple years ago. In the past, they were welcoming, caring and friendly with my dogs. Not any longer, today they are rude, uncaring and have extremely poor communication. We all have bad days, so I'm very understanding and won't make a judgement from one bad experience; however, this has now been the case the past 3 times we have visited and based upon the other negative reviews here on Yelp, we won't return. Took my puppy here for his 3 rounds of shots. Absolutely horrible experience. They do not care about you or your pet. As a new dog owner I had many questions I wanted to ask but each time I went in we had a different vet and none of them gave us the time of day to even ask a question. They take you into the room, then takes your pet into another room to do the exam and then brings them back. Quickly says everything's good and then leaves the room before I can even get a word in. Incredibly unprofessional and rude customer service. Left feeling frustrated and upset every time I've been there. They performed cherry eye surgery on both eyes for my cane corso and did an amazing job.

My St Bernard needed a semen collection for a breeding in Tacoma Washington. Timing to this is critical. My regular vet was not available to do the collection. I called several clinics and either no one answered or they did not do collections. I called Squaw Peak, they answered the phone and when I told them what I needed they fit me in that morning. They took my dog in at the appointment time and completed the process of collection, analysis and preparation for shipment in less than 30 minutes. They saved my day. I will very likely use them for his future collections. Thank you Squaw Peak!!!! read more

I've been coming here since 1997. It was then that I decided this was the right place for my animals. Dr. Weaver was gentle with my dogs, open to treating naturally and even offered suggestions for natural items that might prove beneficial in healing of wounds. Since Dr. Weavers retirement I've continued coming to this practice and have been able to work closely with Dr. M. Ferrera, Dr. E. Clinton, an Dr. Agnew to care for my beastlies I WISH they would get equipment necessary to run same day progesterone and how about some U/S equip while I'm wishing. I WISH I didn't have to battle with Starbucks for parking. They monopolize the parking lot. GRRR. But in closing, Cindy is the greatest, but don't call and ask for her. LOL!! Please stay away from this clinic. They killed my dog and after I found out the same thing happened to 3 other people I knew. I filed a complaint with the AZ board of vets and they found the owner and another doctor who treated my baby guilty of bad practice. He was only given a small fine and had to take some classes. This was more than 10 years ago and after all the complaints filed they are still in business. read more

WILL NEVER RETURN!! I took in my 6 month old Vizsla that was experiencing vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, and lethargic. The vet though nothing of it and told me these are simply flu like symptoms and things will clear up in a day or so. Two days later and no improvement, I reach back out to come back in and have him looked at. After waiting 3 hours this time I find out he has PARVO!!! My poor boy was fighting this for two days extra than needed because the vet did not do the proper testing! Please keep in mind that my puppy was also vaccinated for all four parvo shots at this location. The vet said "these things happen, you will have to arrange for him to be treated at a 24 hour hospital" and left the room to never return again. I have had to be referred out to other specialists by them for care beyond their capacity (cancer chemo & eye surgery), but that's exactly why I trust them. I have had 3 generations of German shepherds with them, 2 from conception to heaven. Now on to Aussies and the staff gets a kick out of our pack...The entire staff is amazing. It's been a long time since I used this veterinary clinic. I just got a new puppy last weekend and thought I would come back here since I had positive experiences in the past. I was unaware there was new management and vets on staff. My experience this time has been less than positive. I paid $272 for a new puppy exam, a fecal parasite test, and ear cleaner and medication. I recognize that diagnosing Illness in animals is very complex and the context/feedback from the owner is important but I am a first time Dog owner and this puppy was new to me. He was rather lethargic during his visit and I was hopeful it was just fatigue from travel and all the changes. By the following day after they cleaned his ears (he had an infection) he was feeling worse than before he was seen there and I called the office twice to get some feedback and my phone calls were never returned. Ultimately I took him to urgent care where he was diagnosed with PARVO and was hospitalized. I just feel the lack of responsiveness was unprofessional and the vet and staff could have possibly been more critical of how he presented and recommended some additional testing. More than anything the lack of follow up is the largest driver for my not returning. read more

Poor customer service and specifically an uncaring attitude with regards to helping us as pet owners

This animal hospital does not care about the overall health of your pet but about making money on surgery. I was a loyal customer for several years with several Pets and recently moved out of the area (different part of Phoenix). Recently my dog had some infections of his anal glands and because of my previous experiences with Dr. Ferrera I decided to bring my pet to them for a consultation. During the consultation Dr. Ferrera was great as always and he recommended the surgery but also warned of the potential issues. They did blood work and put my dog on an antibiotic due to a infection in one of the anal glands. We scheduled the surgery and over the holidays I watched my dog do really well. He had no more issues of scooting and upon examination his glands were back to normal. My guess is that the antibiotics worked and I didn't want to put him through a surgery if I didn't need to especially understanding the potential side effects of such surgery. When I called to explain I wanted to hold on the surgery I was greeted by a very rude receptionist who basically told me that since I am canceling that she couldn't reschedule me IF the dog has issues in the future. Basically saying that my dogs health is less important than them keeping a surgery appointment. As I understand surgery equates to money for them, I thought they (she) would be more understanding that 1) my dog may not need the surgery and 2) postponing it may be the best option since he is doing great after the course of antibiotics. Regardless the unprofessionalism in which she handled this situation is what caused me to write this review. I like Dr. Ferrera a great deal but I am not going to put my dog through a surgery just because they now have a gap in their surgery schedule. They can always fill it and if they don't they have made thousands of dollars off me in the past. read more

Hate to have to do this because it means I need to find a new vet... I have been a loyal customer for ten years with many pets and foster dogs. I have always loved Dr Agnew and Dr Clinton. Well Dr Clinton left. Not sure about Agnew. Today I saw a new vet with a new vet tech. Whomever the vet was, she was not personable. And the vet tech tried to give the wrong dog the allergy shot. I had to stop him. What really chapped my hide, and made me realize they were under new management or something, happened when I checked out. Today I brought three of my dogs in. One for a regular allergy shot, one for a check up and ear cleaning, and one tiny dog for her dew claws to be trimmed. I am presented with the bill and they have double charged me for the shot and charged an additional $32 for cutting off nails! The nails in the past were always free. The bill was already $500 without the nail trim charge. Now I am told it is $32. What? Why was I not told before hand when previously it was free? And I had to also convince the woman checking me out that I was being double charged for the shot they gave my dog. I won't deal with them anymore, now that I find they are wanting to nickel and dime their patrons. This didn't use to be the case, sadly. I have been going to Squaw Peak for at least 20+years. Initially this clinic was the cats meow...fast forward a few years. The front desk team is very pleasant and genuine, the vets.....new faces every visit. Seems the front door was propped open so the vets could quickly do their time and leave. Today I took my dog, Lucy in and two new wiener dog puppies. I wish I could tell you what her name was, the vet who came in. Our appointment was at 7:30, she didn't come in until 8:15. No introduction, no smile just who are we seeing first. I was a bit taken back by her lack of bedside manner, usually vets genuinely glow with the love of their career. This gal appeared to be annoyed with our presence! I will NOT be returning to this clinic, sadly nor will another long time customer who took her dog in 12/04 and had the same vet. I already have shared my visit with my fellow yogis and not surprising multiple folks shared similar stories. Word of advice, think twice before you take your family member to this clinic! read more

Took our dog to have an ear in fection checked out. We have been going here for three years. The turnover in office staff AND practitioners is very high. Theres usually a reason for that and it's rarely good. Front desk women are condescending and rude. We were charged $150.00 for seeing the vet for MAYBE 5 minutes. Seems a little high to be treated so poorly. Vetenairy practices are easy to find in the area. Think about avoiding this one. read more

We recently relocated to Phoenix from Houston. Had to take our repeat offender, 6 lbs Yorkie, Zoe to the vet after discovering her in distress after eating part of a chocolate protein bar. We called the Squaw Peak Animal Hospital at 7:15, they answered even though it was before they opened. We explained what happened & they said they work her in. The veterinarian came out within 5 minutes after we arrived & immediately looked at the ingredients on the bar wrapper. She suggested giving Zoe something to make her throw up instead of letting it run its course avoiding stomach distress & worse. They said the whole process would take around 30 minutes & we could wait at the Starbucks next door. Sure enough 30 minutes later, Zoe was ready. . The staff updated her files w/ previous paperwork & charged us only $65 for everything. We've spent so much more before when we first found out Zoe was a chocoloholic, We recommend Squaw Peak Animal Hospital. read more

We started going to Squaw Peak when we moved to Phoenix about 4 years ago. Our dog Tate is a miniature Schnauzer; he's 10 now. They've been really helpful and very good at explaining things, which really helps relieve some of the stress as your dog ages. Their COVID safety protocols are very complete and easy to follow. Tate can be very difficult to handle - he hates being picked up and really hates it when you touch his feet. They are very nice about this; some of the technicians have gotten to know Tate and joke when he comes in. read more

I have been bring my pets here for 7 years. With COVID-19 one needs to ask for curbside pickup. We stay in our cars and the staff w a mask comes get your pet. Honestly if I give no stars I absolutely would. First of all this place was highly recommended for ear cropping of a Doberman. My family took the dog to get the surgery done which was successful. However they need to see the dog every few days to change bandages, and to also inspect the ears for infection and other problems. When we came in on Monday we asked the vet tech to have the doctor look at the ears of our dog because he was scratching and they appear to be bleeding she understood and took the dog back to inspect the ears and get new bandages. About 10 minutes later she returned with no bandages on our dog his cone covered Active blood which was pouring out from his ears, stating that this is normal and we're free to go. We absolutely did not go we said this is crazy you think we're goi g to just walk out while out dog is bleeding everywhere!!! The vet tech said she can re wrap the dog again which was supposed to have VET look at his ears and make sure there is no infection. We talked to the Vet he insured us thAt was not supposed to happen and his ears look fine.... Well I tell you what that dogs ears where smelling and bleeding. We took our dog to our current vet and she found a terrible infection that was a few days old. Now if the vet even peeked at our dog then he would see the bad shape they were in. Needless to say we followed all instructions the vet left for us and kept up on the ears and now have an infection we had to pay out of pocket for because of how negligent this vets care is. Horrible that this man and his team do this to animals who we trust in their care! read more

The vet that read and made his interpretation from the lab results needs to go back for further education. This vet has a practice of doing the exam and and treatments in a back room without the owner. They took my dog away, came back in 5 minutes and charged $90 for an exam. It's horrible for communication and especially if your dog is like mine and likes to stay with his owner. Overall it's just not a friendly place. I've been multiple times and had one nice vet but the rest have not had the best rapport. And I paid $265 for three immunizations and an "exam". Time to find a new vet. read more
