I'll start with a positive, everyone seems nice. However, the team seems inexperienced with anxious animals. The vet seemed frustrated with the tech. Communication was off between the vet and tech, which made it uncomfortable for me when the vet came back in the room (slightly put out) and said: "ok, what are we doing? Because the tech gave you options without talking to me first." Nothing malicious, just very weird energy after that. read more

This is how it went. I had an appointment for my Siamese mix to see about sores that were on his ears and face. The day before the Vet appointment I had unexpected emergency oral surgery. I was 1/2 hour early for my appointment and told them I wasn't feeling good and maybe I should have canceled. I got no response but was sat inside a room. My cat hates car rides so he was howlng when we got there and continued to howl. I filled out paperwork. A staff member took my cats weight, temperature and slipped a choke leash around his neck because he was scared and trying to hide. Nobody tried to comfort him. Finally another staff member came in, I told them I wasn't feeling well and probably should have cancelled. No response. We are almost an hour and a half into the visit, my cat is scared to death and stressed, I am stressed and not feeling well. Nobody cared. I asked about taking a culture from one of the sores and was told it takes time to set up the lab. I am no Scientist but my son has a Masters in Biology. I phoned him while I was waiting and was told the lab should be prepared before the clinic opens and it should take 10 minutes for a basic culture. A staff member comes in again with a assessment on what it should cost but we didn't even know what it was yet. I had, had enough. I am not going to hold my cat on a choke leash for over an hour while we wait for this clinic to see how much they could possibly charge me for treating my cat, who after an hour and a half has had no treatment. They knew I had just had oral surgery and my cat was over stressed. I paid the $89 for taking my cats temperature and weighing him because that's all they did in an hour and a half and I had to go. It is obvious they do not care about the customer or their pet, only money. It was unacceptable! I have read your other one star reviews and it seems those pet owners feel the same way I do, so it's a you problem not me. Saying I threatened the staff is a complete lie and you all know it. You need to take a look at yourself and the way you treat people and their animals. Your one star ratings are numerous and deserving. read more

I was looking for a new vet for my crew (dogs & cats) with an emphasis on more natural/conservative approaches to health and wellness. Dr. Raya was highly recommended and I made an appointment for my dog for a wellness visit and rabies vaccination and it was by far the worst experience I've ever had with any vet (and I've been to many throughout 22+ years). First of all, the techs are incompetent and not capable of handling anxious pets, which I disclosed when making the appointment and was told it was not an issue at all and was their specialty. The vet "visit" was an hour long sales pitch and if I would have been an idiot and said yes to everything, it would have been over $600!! This place was horrible!!! They had our puppy there for five hours and didn't do anything for her!! We had told them that she was puking and not eating and that we were giving her fluids. We explained that she maybe extremely constipated and she chews on sticks, plastic toys, and that she'd eaten stuffing from a toy. The doctor instead ran a parvo test (even though she's fully vaccinated) and we have three other fur babies that are perfectly fine btw. Dr Rai insisted that because she is a year old she had to run the test. Then after them having our fur baby for six and a half hours they call and tell us vitals are falling and that we needed to take her to an emergency room. She told us she couldn't get our baby stable and that she wasn't going to make it. They did absolutely nothing for our fur baby and charged us $500 when I asked the technician she stated she was the only one there trying to do everything on her own and that's why they neglected our fur baby!!! The Dr stated she had left for lunch and the technician called her and said our puppy was failing quickly. Do not ever take your babies here if you want them to have proper medical treatment. Horrible scammers that don't know how to take care of animals! They charged $500 and almost killed our puppy!! read more

My Yorkie needed some teeth pulled. I've had to put it off due to a family crisis. Dr. Rai wanted charge $1095 just for the cleaning. I asked her if I could sign a waiver and not get the $300 labs done but she refused. Any extractions would be on top of that. They also gave me a bid for $700 for vaccines. My dog had some little "dingleberries" on his bottom. They wanted to charge $67 for a little sani shave. How does a normal person with a pet take care of their animals anymore? One teeth cleaning should cost more than a mortgage payment. read more

Friendly staff, easy to get an appt, vet really cares about her patients and speaks respectfully to owners. I love to bring my dog here to see Dr Rai, she's wonderful and her staff are always easy going and supportive. They don't do grooming here, but they will do a nail clip and of course shots and many other expected services. read more

When our baby Nikki recently injured herself we were panicked to say the least! We called Sugarloaf and they said to bring her right in! We were greeted at the door by the Vet Techs to see if they could help bring her in. The entire staff was fantastic and very reassuring! We found a 4 week stray kitten by our home last week. She was wandering in the street totally blind from a severe eye infection, wobbly, barley able to walk from severe dehydrated & malnutrition. We actually thought it would die on the spot she was in such bad shape, so we took it to the closest vet to our home Sugarloaf. We explained the situation and that we couldn't just leave her in that condition! They charged us a $51.00 exam fee and presented a bill for $378.00 to give it fluids under the skin, antibiotic & steroid shots, antibiotic eye drops and an HIV test ($99). They would not help us help the kitten by giving us any discount. (not even emergency fluids) The help they offered was suggesting we take her to the shelter. I was so distressed I could not afford that much and I refused to take her to a shelter! I was pretty sure in that condition they would just put her down. So I took the kitten to another vet who helped us help her and charged us $65.00 for everything the other vet was going to do, less the HIV test (she's to young). They also fed, bathed and kept her to watch her for a few hours. I had to do a couple days around the clock care, but she pulled through and is doing well now. On Saturday 5 minutes before the Sugarloaf clinic was about to close, I burst thru the door with my little dog, scared and thinking I was going to be told to come back because they was closing, but the total opposite happened, all of the ladies had their keys and bags in hand ready to go home until they saw us, they saw me and my dog in need of there care. at no time did I feel like I was a burden because they couldn't leave, they helped us like it was a brand new day, all of the staff went into help mode, with care and concern for my little dog (The Dude) & me. The doctor and staff didn't rush or try to cut corners to get us taken care of, they stayed with us over an hour and completely helped my lil baby. I'm bringing my other dog there next week for his check up and Sugarloaf will be my babies vet clinic from now on. Thank you. read more

They're a rip off and Out to get your money!! We just moved to the area and wanted to find a vet by our house and I saw this place and took my senior dog there to be examined. Big mistake! The vet that saw us was extremely rude and made me feel uncomfortable! She made me feel bad that I couldn't afford to spend over 1,000 on my dog that she says needed a lot of "work done and testing done" she made me cry in my car on my way home making me feel like I was a bad pet owner. I went to go get a second opinion from another vet and he told me that my dog was just fine and that the things she was telling me I had to get done was completely ridiculous!! I also got a 3rd opinion and he also said my dog was just fine as well! I will never go there again and I urge everyone I know to stay away from this place! read more

My 8 years old cat got vaccine-associated fibrosarcoma after visiting with this vet clinic. I was never informed about risk of cancer when I agreed on vaccinations. Now he is dead. I also agree with previous poster about pushing unnecessary tests, vaccinations or charging for follow up visits, or to just get a prescription when diagnosis is already established you still have to pay for a visit. I felt this clinic was about draining you of money rather than do what's best for your pet. read more

If I could give this place a negative rating, I would. Our dog was very sick. We took our shepherd in because she wasn't eating and Dr Rai had suggested running a bunch of test that cost over $800. My husband took her back the next day for follow up only to find out in the next couple of hours that we needed to put our dog down. Her comment "i knew her situation was grim yesterday when I seen the black lines on her gums.". That cost us another $300. No discounts, no refunds but they wii make a donation to the Phoenix zoo. I agree with one of the other yelp comments. This vet is all about running tests and not very experienced. Especially if she has to get opinions from other veterinarians. read more

I moved into the Phoenix valley from Texas and had been looking for a competent veterinarian for a long time. I tried several different animal doctors for the well being of my two dogs, until I had the good fortune of meeting Dr. Rai and her staff at Sugarloaf Animal Clinic. They are an excellent team who know what they are doing and I was finally able to get relief for my Boston terrier for a chronic condition that most other doctors I had seen had given up on. I see their suggestions not as a way to upsell, but as a means of educating. I would rather be informed and refuse a treatment that I cannot afford as opposed to not knowing about it. Very disappointed with this place! It's all about the dollar with this business. They play on your emotions and love for your pet. Procedures are typically double the cost researching on line and there are always add- ons. I questioned the cost of removing a small skin tag during a teeth cleaning (over $200) Amrit Rai DVM said "You remind me of a joke" I wasn't there for a joke and we didn't stick around to hear it. Sugarloaf has a puppy package to help "save money" but I have spent around 450$ on vaccines and a microchip. I started searching around other vets when it came time to neuter my dog because sugarloaf said it would be another 450$ to do so and 350$ to have his dewclaws removed. I've found a lot of other places with vaccine packages ranging from 60 to 100$ and neutering from 50 to 75$ This place is out for money. Do not suggest this place. read more
