Up until this point, I thought I would never find a place in this city to get my hair cut. I've been met with constant misgendering, dismissal, wildly high prices, etc. But I feel like I've finally found my place! Fig was patient and understanding when I was feeling anxious about not knowing how to direct him. I came in with a design idea and he totally blew it out of the water - everyone has been admiring it and I'm totally obsessed. Loved the vibe of the shop and will definitely be back

I was a walk-in and arrived before 10am. I was seated immediately and out in 45 minutes. My first haircut was a success

I got my first barber shop haircut at Figs in September after just being plain " over my hair " for the past few months. The day i went in September, I hadn't quite planned what to do with my hair but was just unhappy with my general appearance and split ends. I was originally on Amsterdam waiting outside of a barber shop for way too long, feeling ignored and unsure of my decision. Taking it as a sign from God himself, because I doubt anyone other than the guy sitting across from me, would wait that long for a haircut, I started to make my way to the train station and head home to figure out what else to do with my hair. On the block where Figs is located is a MCU ATM vestibule and also a fish spot that I had gotten take out from in the past. I went to the ATM and was walking to order some fish when I noticed the shop. It didn't look too crowded and I only wanted to inquire if appointments needed to be made before a cut . "Fig" was inside cutting a customers hair and when I asked told me he was all booked for the day but the other gentleman inside was free. I walked over to him and asked if he would cut my hair and he said sure what do you want. I told him I wanted one side of my hair shaved into a low but not bald. He said"huh, say that again? I repeated it and showed him a picture of a haircut Andrew said this, but only on this side. He said okay, and told me he could do it right then. Taking a chance and feeling nervous I sat down in the chair feeling like, what's the worse that could happen? It was covid, and I would only be seeing coworkers and my own foe the most part anyway. It was hair and it'll grow back. My nervousness had nothing to do with Junie, the barber who actually did the cut. He was very gentle, just like any guy should be with a virgin (lol) and asked me several times if I was ok. He talked me through the whole thing and made sure I wasn't uncomfortable in any way. The end result had me grinning from ear to ear, and both guys hyped me up when I was done. I left the shop happy and with more confidence than I went in. I did not feel uncomfortable being in a "men's" barbershop, and I definitely felt that I was welcomed . I have since gone back to cut the other side of my head, which Junie said would happen, and will going back regularly to keep up with my style. I never stopped in to the fish shop, but will have plenty of chances since I plan on becoming a regular.

Cool looking place and a great cut!

I was visiting the area from San Francisco and badly needed a haircut. I google-mapped the closest one near me and Figs came up. I stopped in and was not only thoroughly impressed with the look and vibe of the barbershop but how I was immediately greeted and assigned to a barber. The guy that cut my hair was FANTASTIC!!! He was friendly, personable and professional. In fact all of the barbers engaged me in conversation. I felt right at home. I will definitely come back to this place next time I am in town.

Came to this shop about 2 months ago and the owner cut my hair and he did an amazing job. I just wanted to try something different and he delivered.

That's a cool dude. The cut is perfection

Just got my sons hair cut and I couldn't be happier. figs is the man with the clippers. The shop feels like the neighborhood barbershop. It has a welcoming feeling clean and well kept. U feel like family when you walk in. Figs is a skilled professional, patient and gives you exactly what you want!! This was my sons first time at a barber and Figs made it a great experience. I will definitely be returning.

He had dinner reservations. He told me he could do a clean up, once he did the cleanup and it was not clean at all I had him make two more alterations. All in all it looks fine, the 1 star is because he charged me for a Premier cut which is supposed to take 45 minutes and include a wash; he took about 25 minutes. Then I resorted to yelp search for the best men's haircut salon in the area. Tina's salon came up as the top-rated and reviewed option. I took a chance and booked an appointment. I'm glad I booked an appointment and visited Tina Nikolle's Salon. Tina was phenomenal. She gave me an awesome haircut and also trimmed my beard so that I can attend the wedding reception with the best looks! She is very good at what she does and more importantly extremely nice and kind person. Once you interact with her you know how much she loves her job and cares for her customers. One tip to add: If you are visiting for the first time, you may have trouble locating the salon. It's right next to De Janeiro. You have to find a small door on the right side (facing De Janeiro) and then take the elevator to 17th Floor. Tina's Salon is in Suite 1702.

But most of those glowing reviews are pre-covid. I don't know if a lot of their stylists left but there's a notable lack of reviews post-covid. They're kind and the space feels lux and quiet. Problem is communication, went multiple times feeling very whelmed and changed stylist every time. After my third time I think I'm done, I've shown pictures and discussed with them what I wanted but they can never seem to get it right. Instead they default to a generic taper short off the sides and medium top cut, but then why tell me you can do the cut or even have experience with it? Is it my head shape? Face? Am I too ugly? Communicate that to me before you decide to just ignore the conversation we had and just free style. It's frustrating because I am growing out my hair for this cut and they do what they want. I don't want to be rude and stop you mid cut but then why am I paying so much just to be left unsatisfied? Most of the men leaving the place have the same exact cut. Anything longer than a short to medium cut is a no go, those cuts look clean and nice. Kept going in with shoulder length wavy hair just to get butchered every time.

One jackass who charges $100 for a haircut talked about how a real barber (such as himself of course) only does 4 haircuts an hour. Really 4 haircuts an hour? That's 15 minutes each, which after getting in and out of the chair and prepping and combing equals about 10 minutes. You might as well go to supercuts to get that sort of crap haircut. Which brings me to Jerry's! If you are in the city and want to spend 1/3 of what some hipster doofus barber will charge you then check out Jerry's! I used to go to Jerry's consistently when I first started working in midtown but started going to a place in jersey near where I lived at the time, though I still pop over once in a while. If you are in midtown and want a good haircut, this is the place (great if you work in midtown and the boss is giving you crap about your shaggy hair). Mostly older barbers who can do a variety of styles (though I doubt they do shaggy hipster/bieber cuts). They give a very thorough, careful haircut. Usually lasts at least 25 minutes, since they actually take their time and go over it more than once to make sure it is perfect. It is pricey around $30ish I believe, but hey, its in midtown. And of course they use a straight razor, and less importantly but still really cool, they have an ancient hand cranked hot towel machine! P.S. Its very difficult to find (buried in the basement) so ask for directions at one of the rock center info desks located at each entrance.
