If you've paid much attention to the fitness scene over the past few years you've probably heard of…read more"CrossFit" training. Definition according to Wikipedia is as follows: CrossFit is a strength and conditioning brand that combines weightlifting, sprinting, gymnastics, powerlifting, and rowing.[1] CrossFit contends that a person is as fit as they are proficient in each of ten general physical skills: cardiovascular/respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, agility, balance, coordination, and accuracy.[2] It defines fitness as "increased work capacity across broad time and modal domains."[3] The CrossFit program consists of "constantly varied, high intensity, functional movement."[4] I was recently exposed to the CrossFit training style at CrossFit405 in downtown OKC. And let me tell you, if you've grown tired of the commercial gym seen and are looking to be challenged to improve your fitness in a constructive, supportive, and motivating environment then you should drop by CrossFit405 and just watch a workout. Training sessions consist mainly of group workouts, of roughly 10-15 people per class, in which a coach for the workout will lead the team through the movements of the day. Classes are typically Monday through Friday w/ an AM, Noon, 430, 530, 630 pm, with an open gym period for practicing specifics movements on the weekends. If you aren't accustomed to the training modalities listed, have no fear, you will not be looked down upon or ridiculed for it, but rather steered toward what is called the "on-ramp" class. This class is structured to introduce the uninitiated to the movements that compose many of the workouts that make up the CrossFit training style. It takes place in a low-key environment, and the coaches spend time focusing on the basics of the movements and insuring that each individual can execute them safely and effectively. However, if you're accustomed to running/rowing/sprinting/plyometrics/free weight training/Olympic style lifting/gymnastics/ and other bad assery then they'll let you fall right into the next pain fest! Overall, I have had a blast training here over the past month. And again, if you are looking to be challenged then look no further. It's the most fun you'll have suffering at the working end of a barbell, jump rope, rowing machine, etc that you've ever had!!!

There are a whole lot of CrossFit gyms out there, but Crossfit 405 is one of the best gyms in OKC…read more Not only is this a gym with great instructional staff, and a great and clean facility, this gym really cares about their people. There are normally weekly events for you to hang out with your fellow gym-mates which can be a great way for you to get to know the people you are working out with. They have plenty of gear to purchase so that you can rep your gym too. At Crossfit 405, you will be taught correctly and encouraged to get better. I highly recommend checking out this CrossFit gym whether you are just dropping in or looking for a CrossFit gym to try out. Crossfit can work for any and all levels, and can always be modified so that anyone can do it. I hope you will give it a try if you are thinking about getting into CrossFit.

Pro: it has a card access and the gym is clean…read more Cons: The gym is very small and it is rarely staffed. When it's not staffed you are at the mercy of who else is there. Its a great deal for younger members to hang out there with boom boxes and lay in the floor in the Ab-room or what ever its called. This gym is too little for loud music and when you ask politely to turn it down they wont do it. I cancelled my membership and went to Golds. It's cheaper, fully staffed, sauna, tons of equipment and no confrontations.

What can I say - I really like this gym! It's spacious, clean, well organized, and has a ton of…read moreworkout options available. Along with the plentiful free weights, they have several machines with easy instructions on how to use them. They also have several machines much like the elliptical (but better) and treadmills which have TVs built in. Like to have an instructed class, but don't want to keep up with the times? That's okay! They have a room set up with a projector and TONS of instructed videos that range from stretching to hardcore aerobics that you can start at any time you like (as long as no one got there before you). They have all the materials you would need (mats, stretch bands, etc) in the room as well for you to use. It does take a minute or two for it to start, but it's a wonderful addition to your workout routine. I like to use it to make sure I stretch well. Girls, I know several of you have problems with men who bring boomboxes and the ridiculous, uncalled for grunting. Well, that hasn't been the issue here! Headphones are required if you want to listen to your own music rather than the alternative/pop/hits that they play softly over the speakers. Everyone that has been there at the same time as me has been courteous of others. I first came to this gym when I received an invite from a friend for their women's self defense class (very informative!). The owner, Isaac, showed me around and I told the bf we should check it out. It was looong over due that we finally joined a gym. Because it is a 24 hour gym, I don't feel like I need to keep track of when they are open. I can go any time I please! The staff is very friendly, and I don't feel like my every move is being watched and scrutinized. Additionally, they have a honor system for drinks and protein bars, showers, and tanning rooms (shame on you for doing that to your skin). Signing up was super easy. The first month is just under $9. After that, it's under $30/person depending on how many you have on your plan. Everyone is required to have the card that unlocks the doors which is a $20 fee that only needs to be paid once (unless you lose yours). With your month-to-month plan, you get a few extras tacked on to help you get fit. And there isn't really a contract! You do have to give a 30 day notice if you want to stop it; but, hey, you 'll probably never want to leave this gym.
