So I stroll down the hill, politely turn away two kids who tried to hit me up for cash as well as a lady meth-head who had less teeth than a one year old. Walk in the front door of this joint and it's right in your face, "Home of the largest pie in town". Behind the counter, all with similar scowls, are Vito, Salvatore, and Domenic...glaring at me like I better not bitch about the vig or it's in the Raritan River wearing concrete shoes for me. So I ask the old wise guy for a slice of cheese and a plate of spaghett, cuz Keto's on hold today. He doesn't take my money, tells me I'll pay later, which is code for "sit down and STFU". And let me tell ya, between Domenic's amount of hair on his Popeye sized forearms or the incredible look of disgust, like I'm his only son and let him down by not joining the Marines, I'm kinda scared. So I sit...and I wait. The younger guy, I'll call him Vito, brings my slice and a plate of pasta with a side loaf of bread, and again tells me I'll pay later. I couldn't help but inspect the slice for gray arm hairs that might have migrated off the old man's arms, seriously, I've seen primates with less hair on their arms. Seems to be all clear, so I dive in. The slice was a solid 8.5. Undercarriage was perfect, crust soft but crunchy, sauce and cheese the right proportion. And the grease rolled off that slice it made me look like a mallard swimming next to the Exxon Valdez. The pasta though? Over cooked noodles that broke when I put a good fork on 'em. The sauce was meant for the pies, not the pasta and if there is such a thing....too much melted mozzarella. So much that you feel like the only people that could chew and swallow that much Mozzarella also have solid careers on pornhub. Relax, I ain't judging. So I'll sum it up, these wise guys deliver a damn good pizza, and let's be honest, that's what their claim to fame is. Make sure you show the Godfather the respect he's earned when you order and you'll be rewarded with an excellent slice of pie, but only pizza people, listen to me, skip the pasta. read more

Ordered pizza through a delivery service and it came late and the pizza was cold. This was an issue with the delivery service and not the restaurant but just wanted to provide some context to my review for this place. Ordered a plain pie and vegetable one. As the pizza was cold, we reheated the pizza in the oven. The flavors of the sauce and cheese were good but the texture was too soggy. I understand that it was delivered late and cold but for those pizza aficionados it did not pass the fold test. I did not want to penalize the place via my review because it was not their fault the pizza was delivered late but the texture of the pizza wasn't cutting it for me. Would want to give this place a shot again but would eat there (instead of getting delivery) so I can have it fresh. read more

Tried giving this pizza another chance. I was visiting a fellow alumni last week and she ordered delivery. The guy came 2 hours later. he was dirty and had a foul odor and his hands were filthy. We decided we didn't want a pizza from that guy .He mumbled something in a foreign language and started eating the pizza as he left. The service is always very good every time I come here. As a downtown New Brunswick worker let me be the first to tell you this place gets very packed around lunch time so go a little early or sit at your desk starving and just come a little after lunch trust me with the massive crowd it's worth it. I usually come here for the pizza nothing else. Well maybe an occasional salad but does one really like to admit they went to a pizzeria to get a salad? (yeah me either). Their pizza is okay. To me, it's just certainly nothing over the top but it also isn't horrible so it's just a little in between for me. So why the " Yay! I'm a fan"? Clever you might ask. Well this place is always super clean, very friendly staff and they have TVs. After sitting in an office all day sometimes I might want to come here unwind and catch some CNN or then again maybe that's just me. But if you're in the area it's not a bad place to try out at all. We were going to a concert last night and asked a friend to recommend a nearby place to eat at. She recommended Filippo's or Panico's. We saw Filippo's first..............BIG MISTAKE............we got 2 margherita slices, which were good........but the eggplant large here was NOT GOOD. We regret not having gone to Panico's. It looked good but was too soft and soggy..............we were in a hurry to get to the show and were hungry, so we did not complain. What a waste of money We do not recommend your restaurant. My friend is not Italian............we are.......that is probably why she likes your food and we do not..........I would say the pizza gets a 10..............the eggplant parm gets a 3. In the past, I ate their jalapeno peppers calzone and baked ravioli, which were superb. The sauce from this restaurant is very delicious and flavorful. It has a zesty taste. Thin, yieldy crust with lots of "landscape" forms makes the pizza tasty and nice to chew on. Even basic ones like plain + mushroom or plain + pineapple are delivered above average. The pizza here is decent: Some days really good, other days oily/greasy. When I pat-dry the oil with a napkin, the whole napkin becomes see-thru. Not a good sign, unless eating artery-clogging food is your thing! But the reason I'd come back here again is the chicken wings. The wings are crispy, but not too breaded. They're sold in "mild" or "hot", but the mild is hot enough for me. Dipping them in blue-cheese sauce makes it a winning combination! The size of the wings are good too. I chose noon which was out break time. The online menu was confusing so I mis-ordered. They called a few times to confirm. This was no good. I was on the 6th floor in a class and now the class was still going and I had to meet the driver. Although I had passed by Filippo's many times during my time in New Brunswick, I never actually tried their food till my last year in college. The restaurant interior is fine, better than you might expect from a pizza parlor in New Jersey. The food on the other hand, is what makes this place get 5 stars from me. I have literally sampled EVERY place that serves pizza in New Brunswick, and in my experience, Filippo's was without doubt, the best of the bunch. It clearly has to do with how they make their dough, or the quality of their toppings. They have your standard selection of toppings, and they also have a special "MONSTER" size pizza pie. Aside from pizza, they also have fantastic Stromboli (although be warned, they are HUGE). I don't normally go for pizza's in the first place, but after I tried Filippo's, whenever I was in the mood for pizza, I always went back to them. read more

My friend, a customer of Filippo's FOR OVER TEN YEARS was kicked out for being inside with his SERVICE ANIMAL. He was picking up an order. Not only is this entirely illegal, but this shows that, clearly, they have no genuine regard for their guests and customers. How dare they dismiss and turn away a patron of theirs for over a decade? Also, it pains me to know that they never took the time to educate themselves on what a service animal is for and how one should approach let alone acknowledge people who have them. Went here after the New Brunswick Tree Lighting Ceremony to get pizza. Pizza is ok, a bit greasy, nothing special. Service was quick, but they weren't too friendly or patient. I guess that's what happens when there are tons of people there. There is a lot of seating available throughout the pizzeria. I'm a Californian and happened to be staying at the Heldrich Hotel which is right next to this mom and pop shop. I was really craving pizza and have never tried "NY style" pizza. To my surprise, it was bombtastic and relatively cheap for the serving! I believe $1.85 a slice and it was just freakin' delicious. I also tried the meatball spaghetti which was to my surprise, also really yummy and there was so much food! Overall, I had a good food experience but I wouldn't dine in. Horrible service! Spent 15 minutes on the phone trying to place a very simple order which was one large chicken calzone, one small mushroom calzone, and an order of onion rings. The man on the other line had to keep putting us on hold and checking with someone else to figure out what we were saying. We had him confirm the order before we hung up and assumed everything was fine. About an hour later, we get one chicken calzone, one small mushroom calzone, and a bottle of orange Fanta. What we were charged for was our original order with the onion rings. They told us if they had to come out again, they would have to charge us for the onion rings again PLUS another delivery fee. Basically, we got a $7 bottle of Fanta no one likes and no onion rings. Not to mention he also got our address wrong and delivered our food to our neighbors. This is the best NY style pizza in the area... probably better than the majority of slices I've had in NYC. Filippo's uses awesome and classic ingredients (Grande cheese, sells only Coca Cola products.) The takeaway: I'm a pizza-head, and I'd go so far as to say this is serious destination-worthy pizza.
