    Mother high waisted flare jeans...
    Anne J.

Fillmore & Fifth is my go-to for consigning and finding designer treasures. I've been shopping here since they opened and always score something fabulous -- this week it was a Lilly Pulitzer dress, Mother jeans, a DVF jacket, and YSL sandals. The staff is consistently helpful, fun, and honest with their style advice. The manager deserves special recognition for being calm, professional, and genuinely kind. She helped me with both my buyout and consignment items, and I found the pricing to be fair -- they price things to sell, which keeps the inventory fresh and exciting. Shopping here is like a designer treasure hunt, and I can't wait for my next visit!

Unfortunately this consignment store is a) very picky in what it buys, b) a little inconsistent in pricing, and c) primarily directed towards smaller or skinnier women. The majority of the sizes are XS-M, with a scattering of L and XL. If you're lucky, you can find a 2X. Such is the fashion world, I guess. I've tried to sell a few times, but it's not worth it for the most part. Don't waste your time unless your clothes are practically new and cost over $50. Unfortunately, they are not willing to discount whatsoever and have some inconsistent pricing issues. Two pairs of the exact same shoes in different colors were in vastly different conditions, but were priced the same. "Once we pay the buyers, we can't change the prices until it's been on the floor for six weeks." Otherwise, great selection of brands, there are some deals to be had but the majority is priced towards the expensive side for consignment and second-hand. Definitely very trendy and priced for its area. The store is clean and mostly well organized, and they have several well-lit fitting rooms available, which is pleasant. One thing I don't really like is that it is organized by color, not size, so you get your hopes up and are crushed if you are more ...endowed. Ultimately, I was able to find two pairs of shoes in good condition, but still paid over $100. Not in everyone's budget for sure.

The prices are beyond great if you love vintage clothing and know fabrics. I may have found my favorite dress of all time here for a whopping $14 (because it's a two piece set of decorative vintage fabric) it was in the premium section and the volunteers were adorable making sure I knew why it was priced this way. (I couldn't afford a yard of this fabric retail I'm giddy about a vintage two piece set that I can customize). To then discover that the proceeds go to support women's scholarships was the ultimate bonus! My grand total for everything was $54 and I happily gave my change to the donation bucket by the register. If you are in the area and love unique vintage items this is a must explore. I had to resist the urge to buy several of the tea cup collections. I'm a sucker for vintage tea sets and they have several that are stunning! Great shop, fantastic volunteers who are donating their time to support a wonderful cause.

My sweetie took me here a while back. The store owner was friendly and attentive. However, I saw…read moreso much stuff in this little tiny store. It was clutters of stuff and we were the only customers there at the time. To be honest, some of the stuff there probably should be just thrown away like worn out shoes and books in a shed that probably has mildew on them. Each time I did find something to buy, the owner kept on checking on her phone for a similar item's price. Apparently, most prices here are not set and the owner decides once the customer asks. I saw some hats I liked in a box marked $2 each, she told me that only some of the hats were that price. I found a kid's sweater that was from the 1990s and showed wear, she wanted $10 for it because it was apparently designer. Seriously?!? Also my sweetie wanted to buy a doll for his mother for mother's day and again the store owner had to compare pricing for it online. She gave him a price but would not budge on the price, my sweetie and I debated about it...was it worth it? Could we find another collectible doll at a different thrift store for less? Well my sweetie ended up buying it. His mom loved it. But we both think there are better deals elsewhere. I also have a feeling that the owner here sizes people up to see by how they dress and act to determine the price she would sell the item to them. This small thrift store is hidden in the back behind other businesses. I get the impression that most items for sale here have been in the store for years. There is an awesome collection of vintage phones but who wants an old landline phone? There are not only worn out shoes, but clothing that has seen better days. The aisles are cluttered, narrow and cramped. It is difficult to walk through them. Also as there is no fitting rooms, there should have been at least a long mirror to see yourself while trying on clothing, but there was none. When you buy used clothing, you are taking a huge chance as clothing can have shrunk, have unraveled stitching, stains, alterations, cigarette or sweat smell, have holes and other issues- trying on clothing is the best way to examine clothing before purchase. There is no way to do that here. I would not even know where i could simply stand with a few chosen articles of clothing to try on over my own clothing here. As I said, my sweetie and I were the only customers in the store at the time. I get the impression as well that it does not get much business at least lately. And yet, her prices are generally high. I do not even know how a store like this one can stay in business!

I then sat for several minutes waiting for assistance with a return, only to be spoken to in a dismissive manner once someone finally approached me. There were only two customers in the store at the time, so the lack of service was especially disappointing. Afterward, I followed up with my SA, who has always provided excellent service, and my concerns were escalated to management. Unfortunately, instead of taking accountability for how I was treated, Salvador responded with an email attempting to justify the behavior by implying the team was busy assisting others. That explanation simply did not reflect the reality of the situation. I responded respectfully, emphasizing that accountability matters and expressing hope that this could serve as a learning opportunity for the staff. I also clarified that my experience should not be attributed to high traffic when the store was clearly not busy. I never received a response. At this point, I question how thoroughly my complaint was actually reviewed. It feels easier for staff to claim they were occupied than to acknowledge poor customer service and address it honestly.

It's probably the best bet to get a gift that is cute and unique but you want it to lean more towards being western and not too kawaii and anime. Think of gifting a punny keychain or cute Jellycat versus a Chiikawa plushie or anime acrylic if that makes sense. Meaning that it's probably easier and maybe more acceptable to get a slightly more normie a gift here than it is elsewhere. As you can see, I'm learning what it's like to touch grass and re-integrate into human society. There's a good number of plushies, Jellycat and unique ones like a pink fairy armadillo mole one, tote bags and socks, nice range of jewelry, lots of California themed goods if you're looking for souvenirs that aren't mega generic, and they have a lot of other items as well. As with the quality and high regard some of these items have (Jellycats are NOT cheap), it can be a bit pricier, so make sure that you shop around and check prices elsewhere and that you actually truly care about the person you're getting stuff for and it's not a forced obligation one (family member you're ugh with or coworker Secret Santa that you barely know). Maybe a couple cute things I had my eye on, but it wasn't really for me (speaks volumes about me), but I can see how a store like this works in a pinch if you're gift shopping.
