I've been a longtime customer and seller at Fillmore & 5th, which is why it's disappointing to write this review. The quality of the buying process has noticeably declined. The current buying team often appears rushed, inconsistent, and not particularly thorough. I've personally witnessed bags not being fully reviewed before decisions were made -- including brand-new designer shoes sitting untouched at the bottom of a bag that absolutely should have been considered. I've also watched people wait over an hour with multiple bags, only to have one or two items taken or be turned away entirely. Of course resale buying is subjective, but this feels less like selectivity and more like poor training and lack of attention to detail. The experience used to feel curated and professional; now it often feels arbitrary. I've supported this store for years, but the decline in the buying experience has become hard to ignore. read more

Fillmore & Fifth is my go-to for consigning and finding designer treasures. I've been shopping here since they opened and always score something fabulous -- this week it was a Lilly Pulitzer dress, Mother jeans, a DVF jacket, and YSL sandals. The staff is consistently helpful, fun, and honest with their style advice. The manager deserves special recognition for being calm, professional, and genuinely kind. She helped me with both my buyout and consignment items, and I found the pricing to be fair -- they price things to sell, which keeps the inventory fresh and exciting. This is such a great consignment store! I stumbled upon this place years ago when shopping at the town and country center. They have an amazing selection of jeans ranging from madewell and lucky to good American. They also have nice pieces to wear to work, I've gotten some really cute blazers and pantsuits that are perfect for the office at very reasonable prices! I know they also have a ton of designer accessories like bags, shoes, and sunglasses! Every time I'm in the area I try to stop by! read more

I've read the reviews and went to sell some clothes. First I studied their website, for what kind of brands do they want? Packed my bag and had two successful sells. If you get there a little after they open, you'll be okay, otherwise, get ready for a long wait. Each sell takes 15-30 minutes. The staff look carefully at each item. As a seller, you can walk around the store and look for items you might want to trade, or grab a coffee somewhere close. You'll receive a text saying to come back in the next 15 minutes to save your spot on the waitlist. Parking is a headache because this shopping center is very popular. Bathrooms are hard to find. There is a public stall in the middle of the plaza. Ask someone and they'll point you in the right direction. As for the items they sell, they are upscale clothes. It's a sister store to Crossroads Buy Sell and Trade. They have clean changing rooms. Lots of shoes, purses, and the clothes rotating based on the season. There is a glass case for jewelry and high end bags. Enjoy your time hunting for that one of a kind item. I'll be back and look forward to that day. read more

I had a VERY disappointing experience at this consignment store. I asked the manager with black hair to show me a bag that was locked behind the glass, and from the very beginning she spoke to me in a very rude and unfriendly way. She acted irritated the entire time. She reluctantly opened the case, handed me the bag, and kept trying to take it back while I was still looking at it. The whole interaction felt uncomfortable and unwelcoming. This is not the first time I've walked into this store and experienced bad customer service. Every time I come in, the atmosphere feels negative and the staff speaks to customers rudely -- especially this manager. What makes them think they can talk to people this way? I've never seen anything like this. She completely ruined my day, and i Understand why this place has so many negative reviews. I absolutely agree with them. Unfortunately this consignment store is a) very picky in what it buys, b) a little inconsistent in pricing, and c) primarily directed towards smaller or skinnier women. The majority of the sizes are XS-M, with a scattering of L and XL. If you're lucky, you can find a 2X. Such is the fashion world, I guess. I've tried to sell a few times, but it's not worth it for the most part. Don't waste your time unless your clothes are practically new and cost over $50. Unfortunately, they are not willing to discount whatsoever and have some inconsistent pricing issues. Two pairs of the exact same shoes in different colors were in vastly different conditions, but were priced the same. "Once we pay the buyers, we can't change the prices until it's been on the floor for six weeks." Otherwise, great selection of brands, there are some deals to be had but the majority is priced towards the expensive side for consignment and second-hand. Definitely very trendy and priced for its area. The store is clean and mostly well organized, and they have several well-lit fitting rooms available, which is pleasant. One thing I don't really like is that it is organized by color, not size, so you get your hopes up and are crushed if you are more ...endowed. Bring Your Patience, Not Your Prada If you're looking to consign your high-end wardrobe here, be prepared to have your confidence (and your time) shredded faster than a clearance rack poly-blend. I used to sell to Tashi, who loved all my clothes and actually had an eye for quality. Today's buyer? She took my Everlane pants but rejected an Everlane shirt because the brand is "out of season." Make it make sense. Especially when they happily stock racks of Shein-level mystery fabric, Gap, Zara, INC International, and Michael Kors -- a brand they told a customer selling before me a few years ago they wouldn't touch. Oh, and apparently Acne, Amour Vert, and Amber Sakai (yes, the same Amber Sakai Sutton from The Real Housewives wears) are passé now. They took most of my items and offered me less than $70 in cash for clothing items worth over $300 (I ended up just using store credit as I don't wish to come back again). This so called cash amount is not even enough to cover one Maje dress on their floor. Meanwhile, they tell walk-ins it's a "short wait," but my 11:00 arrival turned into a 12:00pm departure. A whole hour apparently counts as "short" in the Fillmore & Fifth time zone. If you want nitpicking over designer labels while pervasive polyester knockoffs hang smugly in the corner, this is your place. As for me, I'll take my future high-end donations to Dress for Success, where at least my clothes will be appreciated instead of auditioning for a reality show called Project Disdain. read more

Ten years ago Fillmore & 5th was a higher quality consignment store that was edgy yet upscale. These days it's closer to a Platos Closet or a Crossroads. I walked in and my mouth just dropped. They used to house quality labels and I would have put the age range at 25-45, because you could get Trina Turk for the work week, while picking up some Jeffrey Campbells with sparkles in the heel for the weekend. It's now solidly geared at teens through 20's and one step up from fast fashion. The quality was lackluster and the taste was bad. I walked around the store in absolute shock because I've seen nicer thrift stores. All in all, the fall was significant enough that I had to update my review. Today was the first time I ever heard of this place, so I went and had a look. There are a lot of clothes, and some shoes, but I was looking for jewelry. There is a quite small locked case containing jewelry and other accessories. The staff will be glad to open the case for you. I found a really lovely piece of jewelry, and it was offered for half price, making it quite affordable. It's a birthday present for a friend and I'm confident it will be much appreciated! read more

Jas and the entire team here is beyond amazing and helpful. My first impression and visit was definitely a wow factor. The store is filled with gems and a variety of styles, sizes, and finds The parking was busy but I found a good one. It's in a plaza with lots of good shops and dining so bc it was my first go not sure the best day or time to go Can't wait to go back and I definitely will and hope Jas is there. Oh man, this was a mess. Whatever you do, do NOT bring your items here for consignment. In February, I brought in several items of clothing to sell, and one of the items was at a higher price point than the other items (a dress from the brand House of CB), so the sales associate let me know they would be putting it up for consignment. I signed the consignment agreement on 2/17/24. Several weeks had gone by, and I actually went into the store on 3/9/24 to shop, and realized that I didn't see the dress and figured it must have sold. It was pretty busy in there, so I left and later called the store and spoke with an employee (I believe named Sarah). She told me she'd take a look around the store and give me a call back, which I found strange since I thought they'd have a record of selling consignment items and wouldn't need to look for the dress in the store. Sarah left me a voicemail later that same day to let me know that the dress had sold, and I should expect a check in the mail within two weeks. On 3/22/24 I realized I still hadn't received this check that I had been told to expect, so I called the store again to see if the check was on it's way. I spoke with Mel, who let me know that apparently my item had been voided in the system, they couldn't find any record of the dress/transaction (thankfully, I kept my copy of the consignment agreement that was given to me upon bringing my item in). She asked twice for a description of the item and said she needed to look around the store again and that she'd call me back. I asked if I could just come pick up the dress since this was starting to seem strange, and she said the dress isn't in the store. If it isn't in the store, doesn't that mean it must have sold? Why wasn't I getting paid? What kind of business are they running here? Are they not keeping track of the higher-end items they sell? I brought this dress in thinking that this was a legitimate consignment shop, and at first they told me that the item sold, and then said the entire thing was voided and they can't find a record of me selling anything? Anyway after a few helpful phone calls with Mel, I finally got my check today, on 3/29/24. I definitely won't be selling here again, but am thankful to Mel for her help. (Edit to note that I've also shopped here as a customer in the past and echo the sentiment from other commenters about the very loud, obnoxious team member who humiliates customers for asking questions. It's gotten so bad that if I see that that particular staff member is working, I'll just come back another day. I've seen this happen first hand a few times, always in response to simple questions like "Are you buying today?" and "Can I make a return?"- basic questions that can be answered respectfully and without embarrassing a customer in front of other shoppers. All of the other staff members I've interacted with have been relatively pleasant at the very least (though they are usually preoccupied chatting with each other and don't bother to acknowledge customers unless you're practically begging them to give them your money), so I'm not sure what happened with this hiring choice). read more

I've been here two times now after finding this place on TikTok. Both times the vibes were just off. BAD VIBES. I came in the second time to sell some clothes. I had a large lulu bag filled and was told to fill out some info on the iPad. I opted to pick "name call" and not text because I wanted to shop around while I waited. This was when I first encountered the big mouth lady. After 1 hr I came back to the BML (big mouth lady) to ask how much more time until I was next. She said that she had already texted me and I was a no show. I then said well I opted out of text and wanted name call. She then said oh then we called your name 20 minutes ago. Okay... so you're lying lol. Wouldn't you remember my face and name from when I first came in? Game on BML. At this point I've been waiting for 1 hr and so I asked if there was any way I could be bumped up. I have a reasonably sized bag, I've driven from southbay, and I told her I was moving. She kinda laughed at me and said I wouldn't be seen today. This lady might have a semi- nice front but she was just condescending and rude to me. I heard all about her solo trip to Hawaii before she even acknowledged me. She needs a bit of work on her customer service is a nice way to put it. 10 minutes later I get called. Hmmmm I was able to perfectly hear this name call out this time around. Out of the 10ish things I brought in they BOUGHT EVERYTHING. Wow so it seems like this unassuming youngish looking girl might have some nice things to sell. After BML heard that everything I brought it was being taken by them she had to sooo kindly thank me for my patience. I'm not sure if her intention was to treat me like poo or to make me feel like poo but this Honeslty wasn't a great experience. They have some great gems from $30-$50 but honestly it's not worth coming here if I have to encounter this woman again. I went in a couple of weeks ago just to check what it looks like. The employees were quite nice and friendly. I appreciated the attentiveness they showed. I think the items are priced well. There was a vast selection of purses, that caught my attention. During my visit there was an employee who assisted me in grabbing a cute tote. I see a lot of bad reviews here about selling clothes. It's really tough. As a former buyer at another resale store I know that you cannot buy everything and you have to buy what sells in that particular store. Sellers often feel judged and I get it but the buyers know what they have a lot of and what doesn't sell. Often they are tied to what doesn't move and are dinged for it. Not sure if this is how it works at this shop but it's pretty standard. That being said I scored today. NWT 700 dollar motorcycle jacket for 150 and an awesome dress from free people for a very reasonable 32 bucks. I was treated nicely and the staff was chatty with me and very pleasant. Great store for buying, not so great money wise for selling. They give you 30% on what they are going to sell it for, which ends up you basically getting Pennie's on the dollar for your items. You can take credit in the store then they will pay you half of what they are going to sell your item for. They are picky about what they want, which I understand. The items need to be brand names and I feel pretty much for smaller younger people. The handbags are nice, but a little high $$ for used. It's changed a lot! I think Crossroads company bought it out, so kind of has the same feel but higher prices. So all in all, I might shop there, but will not sell my items there. My friends can have my clothes for the price I get for selling them there. read more

Every time I come here I have some kind of bad experience, mostly because the staff members are too busy loudly chatting or singing at the counter to help anyone. Today I came in to sell several pairs of worn-once J. Crew shorts (they did not take them), and I stood at the counter listening to the team's Hawaii trip plans for three full minutes (I had all of this time to look at my phone and count) before one of them turned to me finally and asked how she could help me. I was the only person selling clothes (no one ahead of me on the wait list) and I sat and waited for another 20 minutes (I'm still sitting here waiting and I had time to write this entire review. Again, nobody else is on the wait list). I've come here about 3-4 other times, both as a customer and a seller, and I never leave loving the store. None of the staff members are very friendly (someone else mentioned their attitude around the dressing room/ not offering to put clothes back on the rack, etc and I've always had that same experience as well). It also doesn't feel super clean, there's a lot of dust/debris on the floor and I'm looking at a fake fingernail right in front of the register and I type this. On the positive side, even though you need to do quite a bit of digging, they do sometimes have some good finds here. A lot of the clothes are more worn/not in great condition, but you can sometimes find Aritzia brands, Anthro, higher-end designer and more (again not always in the best condition, but gets the job done). All in all, always a pretty bad customer service experience. It's pretty similar to Plato's Closet/ Buffalo Exchange but with a smaller selection. read more

Employees have no idea what they're doing. They barely even look at your items and just flip through like they're in a rush to get to the next one. They only pick what they're "looking for," and even then, it's obvious they have no clue what they're doing. I had a silk top from Reformation that I paid $150 for, and they tried to sell it for $28. If this were Wasteland or The Real Real that would not have been the case i felt like it could easily have sold for $50 or at least 40 but 28??? I tried to explain that and I think it was the manager who told me to go to The Real Real when I already bagged my stuff and I said, "yeah, I will" and started walking away. The name of the store caught me attention. I thought it was a consignment store, so does one of the associate or cashier thinks, sadly it's not! There were 2 cashiers, one girl was assisting a customer and the one in front of who acted busy just completely ignored me. Today (Dec 31, 2024), I went to the store to both sell my clothes/shoes and to shop. I'll review both. SELLING my clothes: - The women at the register who looked through my clothes and shoes were courteous and efficient. - They bought 1 item - a sweater (which I bought from them 2 years ago). - They declined purchasing 2 other sweaters that I bought from them 2 years ago. They said styles change. Fair enough. - They declined purchasing 3 very stylish, looks-like-new heels - Via Spiga, Ugg, and another brand I can't remember. I said these are so cute, I'm surprised. She said - our customers want brands from the mall. - While it's true that one doesn't get a lot of money by selling clothes to them, I don't have the patience or time to sell it online. - You do have to get there right at 10:30am when they start buying clothes to avoid long lines. SHOPPING for clothes: - They describe themselves as "High-end designer clothing, shoes & accessories for women, offered at consignment prices." - The vast majority of these clothes are NOT high-end or even bridge, as they call it in retail. They are stocked with very cheap quality and boring clothes. The employee was entirely correct and honest - these are used clothes from the mall. Brands I saw included the Gap, Eileen Fisher, Urban Outfitters. These are NOT stylish or upscale brands. - The clothes are often in poor condition and over priced for both the condition of the item as well as the brand. I've seen graphic tee shirts for $40. It's ridiculous. I've seen ripped, pilled, or stained items for $25 - $50. - I'd much rather buy new clothes on sale at the mall. It is a MUCH better deal. - They do have a small section of couture. The couture is expensive and in general not my taste. I find many couture brands to be flashy and tacky. 'Fillmore & 5th was very different when they opened 10+ years ago. At that time they curated beautiful, stylish clothes which would be called "bridge". Better than the Gap, but not couture. One-of-a-kind clothes and shoes that you might find at boutiques or Bloomingdales or Neiman Marcus. Now the clothing and shoes they carry are used clothes from mall brands. After I left, I dropped off my clothes and shoes at Goodwill. It seems a shame because they are beautiful and were a $$ investment. But I don't wear them and want to free up space in my closet. It got me thinking; if I'm dropping off really nice items at Goodwill, I bet other women are too. So in the future I'm going to check out Goodwill near posh neighborhoods out of curiosity. read more

I am all for sustainability and buying second hand clothes in good condition. There should be more of these stores instead of fast fashion, except with better staff. I've been here 10+ times in the last two years or so. Every time I've been here the customer service have been pretty awful. I didn't care at first as I went in for clothes shopping and not for making friends. But something's gonna change if they want to continue staying in business. I took the clothes out from the dressing room, the staff saw I came out but didn't acknowledge me and said, "just put it on the rack." Okay. I liked a dress but saw there's a small tore on the back, inquired about potential fixing it with the cashier. She said, "it's no big deal, just steam it and you're fine." Ummmm...no thanks. During the paying transaction, the staff did not make any eye contact or said anything other than the amount I owned. There was no welcome, thank you or even a hi. I paid using a credit card, then she said "you can leave now". Ummm I need my receipt. She then handed me the receipt. A few times ago I saw someone was trying to sell a dress and I thought it was super cute, but that staff simply said that's not the fashion they're looking for. I was going to ask if that girl wanted to just sell me her dress but didn't want to sound like a creep. One of the other staff was helping another customer right beside her to review their sell items and she loudly said, "that's super cute" while holding up a see through top. I did not find it was appealing at all but that's just me. I should also mention, they employ only young white females. There's not been any diversity in their employees every time I've gone. Buying and selling are so subjective to each employee's taste to determine what will sell or not. Hire a diverse group of staff will provide a broader sense on what the Palo Alto population's buying needs are rather than the same few young, white females who think alike. It's unfortunate the unfriendliness of its staff are really putting a stink on the store. I will not be visiting again. read more

I waited for over 1 hour to have my pieces looked at, despite being quoted a 20 min wait time. The staff were chatting, exchanging Secret Santa gifts, etc in front of me, while knowing that I was waiting for a long time. Agree with everyone here with mixed reviews. I visited this location because I love Crossroads and planned to hit as many as I could while in town. I was warned about the customer service by yelpers here and boy is it true. There was a woman who "worked" the fitting rooms who barely looked up when I approached with clothes to try on. And then when I tried to return the clothes that didn't work, she again didn't look up and told me to return the clothes on a rack behind her. She was kind of rude. But that's not the worst of it. There was a friendly, sweet woman who was working the front desk whom I overheard hadn't eaten breakfast (it was around 1pm). When she asked someone I assumed was her superior if she could steal a few bites of her breakfast here and there while she worked, they said no and asked her to wait. Bad work culture! Bad vibes! As for the selection, this is a great place if you're looking for Eileen Fishers, Michael Kors and Athleta. But there are some overprices stuff. For example, I found a shirt from Zara here at $35 -- which is probably more than when it was new! read more

Bring in your clean and lightly worn clothes for their review and you will be treated respectfully with great customer service. The new wait in line app makes things even easier. Highly recommend. They said the buying time is from 10:30-6:00 on the pamphlet and when I checked in person nobody informed that it is shortened to 10:30-4PM. Paying 7 dollars toll to come to this store and I couldn't get my items screened. They should do a better job informing the new hours. read more

It's a real mixed bag (pun intended) of inventory (quality and prices), customer service, and consignment/selling experience. Some buyers are friendly and knowledgeable while others are bizarrely rude and seemingly ignorant of brands and trends... that annoying kind of "lack of self awareness ignorance" where they think they are fashionista super stars when really they are just biased towards their own personal, questionable tastes. Regardless of who you get, the buying process is extremely subjective such that you will get a different outcome every time depending on who the buyer is. Some buyers gravitate towards younger brands like Free People while others will throw those aside and go through Eileen Fisher ie mature brands all day. Also, they seem to over price lower end brands - see image of ANGIE?! brand dress which sells on Amazon for 19 bucks priced at $42?! - then they wanted to price my dress at $44, a brand new with tags Anthropologie Farm Rio maxi sweater dress which means I would have gotten about $14 for it . Keep an eye on the older lady with dark hair and dark glasses! She puts tags on your items and launches them into the bins behind her before you notice what your items were (under)valued at. The WORST PART of the experience- I was sitting on the bench next to the register while they were going thru my bags, and the two ladies behind the counter (both plus sized for reference) get giving each other the side eye whenever I would say anything. At the end, the older lady with dark hair/dark glasses said, DO YOU WANT YOUR MONEY?! like sooo rudely. Then I went to the other side to get my check for about 220, and the other lady would not even look at me in the eyes much less thanks me for stopping by. I'm never going back accept to pick up my consigned items ASAP because they did not email me an itemized list of my consigned luxury coats and now I don't trust them like at all. read more

This is my first yelp review. I had such a horrible customer experience at Fillmore & 5th and with their management that I was compelled to write a review. Yesterday I was in the store and purchased a few things that I wanted to take home to try on then bring home. Erika told me I could return the pieces if I didn't love any, and be refunded on my original method of payment. I went to to the store today to return two pieces as discussed and was refused a refund even though I was told I was able to do so. Firstly, they did not take accountability and own their mistake. Secondly, the management was poorly trained in handling customer escalation and made the situation worse by gaslighting me and making me feel that I didn't hear what I was told. I work in the customer experience industry and have never had such a bad experience. I was made to feel like a liar. If I had received the refund on my credit card as I was promised I was able to, I probably would have shopped around after and bought more than I ended up returning. I told everyone to not go there, that I received horrible customer service, and that they treat the customer like liars. I work in a world where the customer is always right, and we do our best to make sure the customer leaves happy. It can be fun to shop here because they have a variety of cute things in different sizes and it's nicely organized. However, like some other reviewers mentioned, the staff can be a bit on the snobby side, which is weird for a thrift/consignment store. A couple of the ladies who are older/mature were very sweet, but the staff who skew younger really need some lessons in customer service. I'm not sure if I'll be back. read more

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! I've come a handful of times to Fillmore and 5th and have always purchased gems and have raved about this store... until today... Today I decided to bring a bag of clothes to sell for the first time, the process seemed simple. I inputed my info into the I pad and then I would wait for them to file through my clothes. The girl who filed through my clothes was unbelievably rude and seemingly UNPROFESSIONAL. I was told I could leave while they filed through my stuff and could come back before closing at 7pm. So my friend and I decided to leave and get some dinner. When we returned to the store the same girl stood in front of us did not make eye contact while on her phone. She then finally looked up after we waited standing at the desk for 5 mins to point to another girl at the cash register and said "she can give you, your pay outs". I then asked if I could see what items they took (as they told us they would show us what items they took and what they would be priced at). The girl responded with "Uh we can't, when people leave they can't see their items"; thankfully the girl at the cash register suggested to look them up on the computer system. The girl who filed through my clothes then recited the items back to me and I gave my consent to sell.... To my surprise, when I got home and looked through the bag of clothes they did not take, there was a green free people dress she did not mentioned she took out of the bag..........I have left Fillmore and Fifth with an absolute Bad taste in my mouth. I believe the worker was named Stephanie? she wore a black top and wore a bun with a silver heart locket necklace... I will not be coming back and will warn others to avoid this type of unkind customer service. This customer service is not conducive to the type of "high end" consignment store that is being run. read more
