Was $3.99, became $1.99 with 50% off 1-day back to school promotion. Will use to organize my office supplies

The deals here are fantastic if and when you find something you want! Better prices than other thrift shops around Especially look for special discounts like 50% off certain color tags each day because it changes around. You don't know what it will be next I admit the price tags are hard to read something like does it say 2.99 or 2.09? Because they're all handwritten! Yes all of them

Keep an eye out for all the sales / discounts, which change daily / weekly.

EXCELLENT thrifting! The best along the whole peninsula. Unlike Savers, they have dressing rooms and all the clothes are well-organized by color, style, and price.

Cup ruined due to negligent sticker placement.

I am so mad!! Spent $8.99 on a second hand cup for it to be RUINED by a price sticker. Glue from sticker absolutely peeled paint off. No damage on cup before buying so I totally wasted my money!! Advise your employees to place stickers on the bottom of a cup or on a place that can be easily peeled off and removed because that's actual bullshit!!!

Use to be decent. Use to be 'used' quality stuff that was clean, gently worn, undamaged goods. But now they've put price tags on anything/junk.The flats I looked at last week were torn, missing studs, straps frayed...doomed to fall apart shortly after purchase. So no shoes worth it really when I was there. Lots of whiney kids too...dirty floor and it smells. They put double staples on the price tag! Often covering the size tag! Or pierced thru delicate fabric leaving holes/snags when you remove staples! Then there's THIS you're forced to look at while waiting in abysmally long lines to check out (see pics)

    Temporary hours as of 6/13/20

COVID-19 Informational Review: As usual, you will park in the rear lot and enter the store through the alley. In case they reach capacity, they have taped off where you should wait along the wall in the alley (see pic). Masks are required. Just inside the doors, they have sectioned off the entrance in a way that you can only use the steps (3, not steep) to enter and the ramp to exit (see pic). I imagine that if you're in a wheelchair you would have to call out for an employee to unblock the ramp. Only shopping baskets are in use. The carts are off-limits (see pic). Dressing rooms are unavailable (see pic). Once you're in the store, the only enforced social distancing is when you're ready to pay. There are two lines with marked places to stand (see pic), and Plexglass barriers at the cash registers. Temporary hours are in effect (see pic).

They have everything from dresses to toys to side tables.

A decent amount of clothes but most everything else is junk and in general the store is quite dirty and disorderly.

Expensive and dusty. Run down and crammed full. It's not fun or interesting to shop there. Go if you like high prices and dirt.

Ask the Community - Thrift Center Thrift Store

How can I find out in advance about their 50% off sales? An email list? Social media? Or are they on a set day of the month?

Every Tuesday from 9am-1pm all clothing is 50% off. They also have a Saturday sale about once a month around holidays that they advertise with flyers in store. To my knowledge they don't have any online presence.

When donating, do they give you a receipt?

No, they don't give a receipt. There's a drop off section right where the parking lot is. You could probably ask for a receipt.

    What time do they open?

    9am

Who owns this thrift store? Is it nonprofit or forprofit?

YES they are a non profit 501c3: http://ucpgg.org/support-ucp/thrift-store-donations/

My sweetie took me here a while back. The store owner was friendly and attentive. However, I saw…read moreso much stuff in this little tiny store. It was clutters of stuff and we were the only customers there at the time. To be honest, some of the stuff there probably should be just thrown away like worn out shoes and books in a shed that probably has mildew on them. Each time I did find something to buy, the owner kept on checking on her phone for a similar item's price. Apparently, most prices here are not set and the owner decides once the customer asks. I saw some hats I liked in a box marked $2 each, she told me that only some of the hats were that price. I found a kid's sweater that was from the 1990s and showed wear, she wanted $10 for it because it was apparently designer. Seriously?!? Also my sweetie wanted to buy a doll for his mother for mother's day and again the store owner had to compare pricing for it online. She gave him a price but would not budge on the price, my sweetie and I debated about it...was it worth it? Could we find another collectible doll at a different thrift store for less? Well my sweetie ended up buying it. His mom loved it. But we both think there are better deals elsewhere. I also have a feeling that the owner here sizes people up to see by how they dress and act to determine the price she would sell the item to them. This small thrift store is hidden in the back behind other businesses. I get the impression that most items for sale here have been in the store for years. There is an awesome collection of vintage phones but who wants an old landline phone? There are not only worn out shoes, but clothing that has seen better days. The aisles are cluttered, narrow and cramped. It is difficult to walk through them. Also as there is no fitting rooms, there should have been at least a long mirror to see yourself while trying on clothing, but there was none. When you buy used clothing, you are taking a huge chance as clothing can have shrunk, have unraveled stitching, stains, alterations, cigarette or sweat smell, have holes and other issues- trying on clothing is the best way to examine clothing before purchase. There is no way to do that here. I would not even know where i could simply stand with a few chosen articles of clothing to try on over my own clothing here. As I said, my sweetie and I were the only customers in the store at the time. I get the impression as well that it does not get much business at least lately. And yet, her prices are generally high. I do not even know how a store like this one can stay in business!

The good old days are GONE thanks to Covid. San Mateo County is particularly hard hit as far as any Salvation Army activity. There is severe reduction by any charity and that includes Goodwill and St. Vincent de Paul. Readers here probably know California has problems and people are leaving and therefore showing up at donation centers with beautiful stuff. The donation centers are going to be picky to the max so either you are going to be doing a lot of work on Craigslist or eBay to get rid of your stuff or you are going to see it go to ground fill by junk haulers and it's going to make you upset. Don't know how these organizations are supporting the new migrants that need to furnish theirnew homes. Guess they are getting debit cards and cash to go buy new stuff but your donation centers are not going to basically work with you and that includes Salvation Army.
