We had a talent show Friday night on the pool deck. We filled all of the accommodations with our dearest family and friends, and they all had quite the adventure! We were treated to the most beautiful sunsets. We had about 100 guests and had more than enough space. Our theme was colorful bohemian, and it fit the venue perfectly. We decorated with lots of lanterns, and had an LED dance floor. We had multiple people tell us it was "the best wedding" they've ever been to.

I mean REALLY shady! So to receive the level of hospitality, patience and professionalism along with a HUGE somewhat "funky" house was refreshing. My brother-in-law rented the main house and two cabins for a first annual Family reunion (16 of us). Clearlake holds a special place in the hearts of my husbands family so coming to the lake was a given. The main house is quirky and has plenty of room for a large family to sleep and hang out. Is it 5 Stars in a "SF Ritz Carlton"Way? Ah no. This is 5 Stars for Clearlake folks. The main house is old with a musty odor and the furnishings are far fancy but completely comfortable. Lots a large TV's, free wifi and newer kitchen appliances. Down side, totally not a good option for the elderly or handicap because there are lots of stairs. My 80 something parents-in-law had to stay in one of the small adjoining Cabins because the quantity of stairs in the main house just wasn't doable for them. The real gem is the fact that you're right on the lake. Yes it's got algae but look past the first 5 feet of shore and you'll see the true wow factor. There is a very large deck off the second story and .... WOW! The views were breathtaking. The outside "yard" is massive. Oh the parties that could be and probably have happened here were probably epic. And a tiki bar? YES! I loved that there is a Chavez Market right across the street so running out of or forgetting anything isn't a problem. It's a pretty nice market (clean, fresh produce and SAFE). We had a wonderful reunion here and even though there were a few restroom issues and the beds are like sleeping on clouds, and the cabins smelled like smokers stayed there, it's still a great place for a large group. Right on the lake ... Like RIGHT on the lake!

I pulled in and it is obvious that the place is old and needs repairs. Lily was nice and while I booked a small room with no kitchen she implored me to upgrade and even showed me the difference in rooms - I didn't need a kitchen and the small room was fine, but I felt like maybe she needed the extra income, so I upgraded. The room itself is very modest, everything is old and in need of an update...I wasn't sure I wanted to walk on the carpet on my bare feet. With that being said, the bed, bathroom and kitchen area were clean. There is not HVAC, so be weary in the heat of summer (small wall AC unit) or the freeze of winter (small floor heater). I ventured to the elevated dock area to look out at the lake - The view is beautiful, there is zero doubt about that, but the dock and the surrounding structures are all in such disrepair its very sad; I didn't feel safe. The walls are quite thin (I was in #5) and I could here traffic from the street, doors closing, TV's, conversation, etc...Also, they advertise that no pets are allowed, but the man staying in the unit next to mine had a large labrador that came lumbering out as I arrived...He later took the dog to the lake, let it swim and then brought it back wet and let it back into his unit...mmmm wet dog smell! Would I stay again? Given that there really isn't any good hotel (Marriott, Hilton, etc) in Lakeport, his place is as good as any and did I mention the bag of Famous Amos cookies on my pillow?! My husband walked in to check out if they take dogs, the owner came out to look at our cute little pup, and within ten minutes we were tucked into a sweet little cottage close to the Lake. And, I'll admit that I was anxious about staying by Clear Lake because of it's bad rep with poverty...but this place was quiet and actually gorgeous in a way that Napa can't compete with.

After a little bit of poking around, it seemed Lakeport would be perfect (thanks to Christine G's review); neither of us had really been here before, and the Forbestown Inn was reasonably priced for a B&B on a holiday weekend ($120, about half what some of the Napa B&B's were charging!). We called up the Inn from the Bay Area and Pat let us know there was a room available; she asked of our arrival time so she could make sure the room was made up and cool by the time we were to arrive. When we showed up to this adorable site (after a nearly four hour drive) she greeted us and gave us some pointer on dinner, the WiFi password, and keys. We stayed in the Anna room. The house and rooms were classically appointed in the VIctorian style that seems to pervade most B&Bs, with frill and antique, though not overdone. The bed was a queen-size (which felt a touch on the small size) but the rooms were reasonably large and the bathrooms were pretty spacious (though down two steps, interestingly enough!). The overall setup was just gorgeous with a backyard to lounge in and very easy access to all of Lakeport's main attractions (we watched the "boat races" at the Speedway, NOTE: NOT ON WATER - see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivLX2Hu9iqU). Breakfast was an omelette (in truth, more like a frittata) with portabello mushrooms and red peppers, with a good strong coffee. My girl and I were trying to cut down on carbs, so we asked for no bread, but the other couple at the breakfast table raved about the French toast. After the other couple left, we actually had the whole run of the place to ourselves and lounged by the pool. Called Elizabeth they would not answer the phone thus things I had to do I couldn't. We were there to fish during the day. Boat ramp was covered with plants, ramp was really steep. In my beach house cottage the power and stove went out. They stated its a DFI switch or something like that, nevertheless after having a "employee who can fix it." They couldn't find her, she went home. So I had to wait to finish cooking. After about 2 hours they magically came back on. This seems as though its been a ongoing problem from the way they made it sound. Another one of my aunts had to wait for her unit to be painted 3 hours past check it. Yes I said painted! Who paints a unit same day of check in? Well later I find out they had a squatter who wouldn't leave dying there. the place smelled so bad they had to paint it to remove the smell. They wouldve been better off not renting the unit till it was complete. My aunt had to try and sleep there with paint fumes and she has asthma. Lastly mother and I was hanging out till midnight. When it was time for her to goto bed, she discovers her unit flooded from the AC. Her Bedding was soaked. They did come and mop it up and give new bedding. They literally gave the new bedding to my mom. My mother is handicap, the guy claims he has never maid a bed before. My mother could've slipped or gotten electrocuted, the offered no help. Here is the worst part they offered a $50 discount for the trouble. Moral of the story is NEVER got there. They need new owners and management that gives a dam.

Sans concierge, the Bluefish Cove is a comfortable hideaway for those outdoorsy types who truly like to play outside. A convenient landing spot indeed...a quiet spot to enjoy a bottle of wine and listen to the crackle of the fireplace after a long day of sublime laziness. Blue Fish Cove is a simple no-frills kinda place located "off the grid" for those of y'all who don't want to be bothered... and it's a hop skip and jump away from Sac and SF. The customer service here is excellent. The owners, namely Ms Judy, was very kind , extremely accommodating, and they're pet and family friendly.
