I had two etched glass flutes from my Grandparent's wedding in the 40s and both glass bases had snapped off at the stem and one was gone altogether. They sat like that for the last 10 years waiting for the day I found Henri and his practice. He was able to bring them back to life by making a mould of the base I still had and creating a new base out of an acrylic type of material that looks and feels nearly identical. I have a set of porcelain Lipizzan horses that were crafted in Austria. They were a gift from my uncle who was a global traveler and collector of fine art. I recently asked Fine Art Restoration (Henri) to repair a glass bowl that was broken during a move that occurred a few months ago. There were small pieces missing and the bowl has a special coating that gave it a golden sheen. It was clearly a very difficult repair. They did a terrific job. They had noted to us that it would be impossible to have it appear as if it had never been broken - and yes, if you are very observant you can see the outline of some of the repair. But it is 98% not noticeable - a really wonderful job and one we really appreciated as it is a special family heirloom. read more

I have an antique sterling silver hand mirror and the mirror was becoming tarnished over time. I purchased a giant vintage perfume bottle (over 20 inches tall!) from an estate sale that had a chunk of glass missing from the rim. Found Henri while searching online for someone who could do glass repair. When I brought in the piece, he assessed it and told me how he would rebuild the missing piece. He explained to me because it was glass, it might not be ENTIRELY seamless, and was thorough and honest. As you can tell, the result looks great to me! He even made the texture of the missing area look and feel like the rest of the piece. Unless you were REALLY looking for it, you would not be able to tell this was a repair. The bottle looks wonderful and I'm very happy! On top of the great work, Henri was friendly, great with communication, and did the work within the timeframe. His studio, located in the flower district downtown, is also super interesting because you can see the other work he's working on. Needed an art restorer for a family heirloom. Got some references from well meaning folks and found Henri at Fine Art Restoration on Yelp. Now the ceramic piece needing repairs wasn't in "horrible" shape, but well beyond my capabilities with super glue and tweezers. Sent Henri photos of the damage which he reviewed and gave me a basic understanding of the material and repairs needed. Set an appointment with Henri who inspected the piece and discussed his background in art restoration. After a closer review, Henri quoted what I believe was a fair price, then he used his expertise to recommend a custom made stand for our piece, rather than the acrylic breadboard we were using Fast forward approximately 6 weeks, I was able to pick up our horseman today. I am unable to discern where the original breaks were. The color match is perfect and the stand ideal. In speaking with Henri, he stated that he gets a great sense of pride when he is able to restore works of art. I knocked over an exquisite maquette that my wife received as a really special gift. It was seriously damaged, and my wife was quite upset. I was at a total loss, however on a whim looked into fine art repair. I liked what I read about Fine Art Restoration. Their projects looked really high quality and their list of clientele was notable. I enjoyed meeting Henri and found his studio quite fascinating. He was also quite reassuring about being able to repair the statue, along with pointing out other damage that I had not previously noticed. I was guardedly optimistic that it would look good after being in his hands. It took a while, but I was not in a rush, and believe that good work on special items such as this maquette should not be rushed. Boy, the result was better than I could have hoped. It looked truly better than new. Not only was none of the damage (maybe 9 significant points of damage) at all noticeable, he also cleaned it up really nicely (hard to do with all the nooks and crannies the statue has) and placed it inside a beautiful acrylic case that shows off the statue so beautifully, while also protecting it well. This cat's a family treasure. My mother first gave it to her boss back in the Sixties. Some twenty or thirty years later, her boss sent it back to her as she wanted her to have "Francis." Its feet were broken in transit, but my mother was able to glue them back on. She and my dad are now downsizing, and she gave the cat to me as I've always liked it. I have a tiered cake plate stand made of colored glass. The bottom tier had gotten damaged in a recent move. The glass around the center portion where the metal separator screws together had been almost completely cracked and chipped out. I had reached out to other artists to see if they could restore my piece, but with no success. I then did a google search and came across Fine Art Restoration. On the google search information blurb included images of different art medias being repaired and that gave me hope. I reached out, left a voicemail, and was promptly helped with a return call. I was able to make an appointment to see him with my piece in need of repair for an in person consultation and potential quote. I was fortunate that we were able to think of a unique solution to best remedy my piece and situation. His consultation gave me confidence and his quote for services was a fair and reasonable price. The completion of his services was to my expectations and confidence in him at our initial consultation. **For those who are not local - I was driving down from Canoga Park area, and I am not familiar with this area of L.A.. I recommend using the parking on or near the intersection of 9th St and San Pedro St., as his builing is situated on San Pedro St., 2- 3 doors down from that specific intersection. My GPS was not very helpful trying to find his building, but he was very helpful when I got lost. Parking does require to be paid for. Some are meters for street parking, and parking lots can use machines accepting cash (exact change) & card, and some are attendants and cash only. Henri is an angel restoring damaged art back to its original glory and, in the process, banishing the heartbreak that festers when treasured art has been broken and is unresolved. My family had a badly broken alabaster cupid statue that we inherited from our favorite aunt in 1986. It broke (nightmarishly badly) when it was shipped to us after her death. We were devastated. I was 14 at the time and my sister was 16. My parents launched into an exhaustive search for someone to repair it. However, everyone cautioned that the repair could fail and cause the statue to crumble even more. My parents were risk averse they eventually concluded that a repair was hopeless. Henri is so good at what he does. My husband accidentally knocked over and broke one of my mother's favorite Lladros that I had inherited when she passed. I was heartbroken. He tried to repair it with gorilla glue, but there were small broken pieces missing, and needless to say his "replair" was a complete failure. I have never before been compelled to write a negative review, but this merchant warrants my best efforts to warn others. DO NOT TRUST THIS MERCHANT, particularly if you need to ship an item - he will not take any responsibility. I sent pictures of our damaged Tang Dynasty horse and received what seemed to be a fair quote. Living in a different city, I shipped the horse, packing it in a box inside a box. Upon receipt, Henri upped his quote from $1600. to $2200. claiming that extra work would be required versus what he saw from the pictures. I consented to have the work done. I asked Henri to take pictures of the horse before packing to be shipped back to me. He said that he forgot before he packed, but promised that we'd be happy. His exact words (email) - "I guarantee you will be pleased. As I am. Thanks for your trust." We received the horse with a new break. Henri's email response started with, "that sucks." Then, "I think there was a crack from when it broke in pieces and this last trip got the best of it. I'm happy to fix that. As my restoration contract/invoice says I'm not responsible for shipping damages. It's my 3rd one in 20 years. I'm happy to work out a better price. It'd be $600 to fix." I reminded him that I took pictures before sending to him, that there was not a crack in that place and if there had been, he would have fixed it. To this, he replied "True, there was no apparent crack. 100%. But, as it happens very often, a piece falls off as I'm working on it. That's the nature of it." It goes without saying, I'm not giving this merchant another $600. to risk receiving a broken item again for which he takes no responsibility. I will repeat, DO NOT TRUST THIS MERCHANT. read more

Ok I admit it. I was extremely hesitant to ship a lovely signed glass bowl with two tiny chips on the rim to an unknown entity in the urban jungles of the west coast. And because I trust nobody no longer I went to the UPS store to have it packed and shipped with a return label. The vase was hand painted and glazed by one of our favorite artists with many of the painted areas being broken and missing after it was dropped. I have a vintage hand-carved stone statue of Quan Yin from China that suffered multiple age-related fractures along some fault lines in the stone. It is 38 inches tall and it is a beautiful (and quite heavy) piece that has been in our living room for over 10 years. After doing some online research I contacted Henri at Fine Art Restoration. He sounded quite confident that he could make the repairs. I carefully took the piece to his studio and he discussed in some detail just how he proposed to restore the piece. Henri is an interesting fellow, and I very much enjoyed seeing his studio and talking to him about his work. While there I had a chance to look at some of the other projects he was working on for other clients. He does some amazing work on pieces of all makes of materials. His ability to mate and fix the broken pieces is one thing. But the most amazing part of his work is his ability to match color and finish on any material. Now there is the art. It took some weeks for him to complete this job, but I was happy to wait for what turned out to be a perfect restoration. As it turned out I had a smaller stone piece that required his expertise. Once again, he did a great job. Henri's work is not cheap. However if you have a piece that you love and it looks like there is no way anyone could ever fix it, take it to Henri. I want to thank Henri for restoring my grandmother's gift to me. Someone in the office broke the little blue willow plate that my grandmother gave me when I was 5 (it has been a FEW summers since then). They handed me the mess, which even when "assembled", still had empty chunks: they did not give me back all the pieces. I picked up Henri's work today. It is a beautiful miracle: I do not know how you did it, but I have the whole complete little plate, and I can't see the difference. I was privileged to find Henri a few years ago to repair and preserve a metal sculpture made of steel - a difficult metal to weld. He not only made the repair, but he reinforced areas that were in imminent peril of breaking, cleaned the piece and made me feel like the sculpture was as important to him as it was to me. I went back to Henri a few weeks ago to repair another delicate art piece, this one made of hundreds of virtually identical sea shells. He not only fabricated and aligned matching shells in size, color and texture, but he made them with a flexible composition that will resist breaking and chipping. As a creative, industrious artist and inventor, if Henri can't repair it, it's not repairable. As a caveat, what Henri does is an art, not a science, and he performs all of the work himself, so be prepared to embrace the process knowing that you can't rush perfection! read more

Hi Henri, Can you please respond back to me? I dropped off two Raku pots on July 5th and I paid your invoice of $1,863.00 in full when you sent it on August 1st. I have a receipt showing the check was deposited. It has now been many more months and I've only got responses from you by email saying there's more delay and more delay - you have been sick (email on 10/26), you needed to go back home on a personal family matter (email on 11/23) and then nothing on 12/13 after I checked in again to see how the pots were coming along. I don't mind that restoration takes some time to complete, and I am totally fine with it taking additional time because of your personal matters...however you are not responsive to my multiple texts, emails and calls to try and understand when the two pots might be completed or what the current status is. I have not received any photos of them since 9/17 to show progress (which was still in the beginning stages back then). Posting here is a last resort for communication because I felt very strongly that you were, and are, up to the task to restore these pieces, but as a business owner who has taking my payment in full, you are not being communicative with your customer. read more

I can't even begin to tell you how happy I am with the artful and delicate repair job that Henri recently completed on a crucifix that had been made for me 20 years ago in Medellin, Colombia. The crucifix had been hanging on a wall where my family lives for twenty years, and on a recent trip, I had decided to bring it back with me. Before taking it off the wall and painstakingly wrapping the piece for travel, I had noticed that someone had attempted to repair it. I hadn't even known that it was broken; but alas, what could be done? My aunt wrapped the piece in bubble wrap and a lot of newspaper, and I brought the piece back in my hands, but when I arrived in Panama, a Drug Enforcement Agent decided to knock on the piece with his knuckles. I asked him not to do so, but I feared the worst, and sure enough, when I took all the wrapping off, the right arm had been shattered.
