We arrived into Port Townsend at 2:00pm and had an hour to kill before they opened. We got there right at 3:00pm and were seated immediately at a window seat in the bar for happy hour. We ordered several dishes which included the pimento spread with fried saltines, duck confit croquettes. potato and leek soup, oysters on the half shell and lastly, their house-made pasta which was mafaldine, a long strand with curly edges on both sides in with a sauce that was just exceptional. Our waitress, Jessica was so friendly and there was never a wait for our dishes. Overall a very splendid experience and will definitely go back when visiting Port Townsend again. read more

What a delightful and wonderful restaurant that I plan on returning too whenever I am in the area. We went during HH and tried a variety of small bites and every single one of them was delicious. The oysters were on point, the greens balanced, the croquettes and salmon dip were very flavorful but our favorite dish of the day was the biggest one and that was the house made pasta. The selection changes every day and on our day it had red sauce, red onion, and castelvetrano olives and it was so good that we ordered a second bowl! And we may not have needed a second bowl as it was a solid size but it was so good! The house red during HH was also nice and I tried a white port and tonic which was fun to try and refreshing. What a lovely evening at finistere! Food was irreproachable. The bread was fantastic. Oysters were also great, and salad was perfectly composed. The salmon dip was good but the chips were slightly over salted. Drinks were also great. Service was friendly, attentive and welcoming. Two very nit picky service details that could be improved upon: starter plates when cleared were stacked on the table. I was surprised that a restaurant of this caliber would allow plates to be stacked on the table. Secondly, half our party got their mains, and then a period of a couple minutes passed before we got the other half. Again, just given how great the restaurant is on many other details ([[HIGHLIGHT]]ambiance, locally crafted plates, sweet flowers, farm to table, etc[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]) I just expected those things to be given. FINISTERE has been bookmarked and finally checked off when family came for a visit. The wait for the outside patio was a bit long considering the entire sitting room was empty; however the food + service made up for it and all was forgotten upon first bite. The food is prepared and arranged for visual art and creativity as well as taste and flavor. Revisited last week and once again had a terrific meal! Drinks were fun and most interesting including a pear liquor cocktail. Squash soup hit the spot and oysters were so fresh! Entrees included halibut that was cooked to perfection. Pasta was a gnocchi-like dish with ricotta and spicy sausage - only gripe was the somewhat small portion. Happy hour is the real bargain and great if you can start with happy hour around 4 and transition to dinner - let's you try out more items while keeping the dinner bill sane. read more

I ate at Finistere on Friday, and it was one of the best meals I've had since moving to this area 6 years ago. I will definitely return! My companion and I shared 4 different happy hour small plates (peach gazpacho, pea and mint croquettes, fried oysters, and the pasta of the day), and each dish was vibrant and delicious. 4.5 stars but rounding up based on a series of events that favor our dining experience We went here on a Saturday and managed to snag a last minute reservation on Resy. However, upon seeing the significant price differences between happy hour and regular menu, we tried for walk in at 4:30pm (happy hour ends 5pm) but there were no tables left and we had to put on waitlist, with a 30+ min wait which means there's no chance for happy hour pricing. However, we were able to get seated at 4:45pm actually and took the entire order in one go to lock in the pricing, which I really appreciate since we saved at least $40 from our bill doing so. We got the following to share - Fresh oysters - they were small to medium in size so we decided to get them. I am never a fan of big oysters so given the size they mentioned, I gave it a try and I enjoyed them - Deviled eggs - tasted fairly standard. A popular choice but if you don't have stomach space, skip. This dish almost doubled in price since a year ago too, making it less attractive to order - Springrain greens - very okay. Vegetables were not too fresh, and the dressing is a bit lackluster. Skippable - Chicken liver mousse - super memorable. It's a bit hearty but I really loved the consistency and texture and flavor. The red onion jam accentuates the flavor. This is a must-order - Croquettes - pretty small but quite delicious. It's fried so it is a bit hearty despite the size - Fried Washington oysters - it's a hit or miss for people but I liked it since I'm not too big of a fan of fresh raw oysters. I liked the flavors specifically with the aioli. This is a very filling dish - House made pasta - today's is rigatoni and the pasta is cooked to nicely al dente (a bit softer) but the sauce is really good and I could lick the plate if I didn't care about what other people think! We also got the house white wine that's dry and Tsunami export stout that's a dark beer that I actually liked. I wished they gave more wine since I felt like it wasn't a full glass but it was happy hour pricing so it's somewhat acceptable. Service was friendly as the bartender was engaging and gave water refills and such. There were some service misses but they corrected them. We never got the fried Washington oysters and had to follow up at the end, where they set new plates and utensils for, and adjusted the price down to happy hour pricing since they apparently forgot to note it in the initial order. Food came out fast after ordering so it was no big deal. Overall, nice restaurant in Port Townsend but temper your expectations since it's pretty good but not the best out there (given the hype and how far in advance you'd normally have to make reservations for) read more

We made reservations to ensure that we could get in! We were seated immediately by friendly folks who covered the night's oysters and our drink order was taken immediately. We decided to start with the leek and mortadella croquettes snack as we perused the menu and made choices. We also asked for the Nigella and Dragon's Trident for libations. Both drinks were very good - the Nigella is very light and crisp. For dinner we went with the asparagus small plate, the mushroom risotto, the lumache, and a side of maitake mushrooms. The croquettes were heavenly - highly recommend trying them. The asparagus small plate (appetizer) is light, crisp, and amazing. We're going to have to try and recreate this dish! The thinly sliced asparagus, the nuts, the chèvre, etc. was so flavorful. The maitake mushrooms were great. The mushroom risotto was so rich and flavorful - deep mushroom flavor. The lumache had a light flavor with an excellent short rib ragu and the olives added a perfect brine flavor. All three dishes were very good and you wouldn't go wrong ordering any of them. The Domaine Les Plus Le Rochettes (2020) that was recommended to us was a great wine for our food combination. Timing between courses was perfect. Service throughout the meal was excellent. The staff were quick, attentive, and very friendly. They spent a great deal of time answering questions and explaining menu items to many patrons. read more

We ordered a variety of appetizer and dinner items to share between the four of us, and it was fun to try a little bit of everything! I especially enjoyed the meatballs and polenta appetizer, and the scallops with pearl cous cous because they were well cooked and bursting with flavor. Don't skip dessert! Amazing dinner. We visited on a Saturday around 7:30 with a reservation. The restaurant and"bistro" dining area are well arranged and spaced. No narrow aisles and bumping into others. We had the fried oysters, beet salad, branzino, and duck confit. The duck was the standout. Cooked perfectly, well balanced. The branzino and beet salad were a close second. Also perfectly cooked. The fried oysters were not as great, but it is tough to get a meaty/creamy oyster right when fried. I highly recommend. It is worth the money. read more

Tip: make reservations! This is a popular venue, and often gets booked out. For good reason! Although portion sizes are small and prices are $$ ~ $$$, the food is really good. We ordered the broccolini and croquettes as appetizers, and the mushroom risotto & spaghetti as mains. Both the appetizers were very tiny. You can see the broccolini only takes up a small portion of the plate. It is very long, and chewy. Topped with onion, seasoning, oil, and mayo, it had a decent amount of flavor. The croquettes were one-bite wonders - crunchy on the outside and cheesy on the inside. The mushroom risotto was creamy and rich. The spaghetti was cooked al-dente, topped with meatballs. The dish was good altogether. You can see the craft with which the chef makes the food. One of the best places to eat in Port Townsend! Ambiance is light and subdued - no loud noises or music here. Our server was a soft-spoken lady who explained the dishes well and gave nice recommendations. Altogether a good experience. :) read more

My absolute favorite things on the menu: the mushroom risotto (with chanterelles and other foraged mushrooms!) and the sourdough g bread with butter!! The freshly churned butter was to die for. Oof! I regret not packing one with me. Soo good. Some of the other things we ordered: 1. fried oysters: that my husband found okay (he's not a fan of oysters but wanted to try the fried version) 2. Garlic confit and cheese with crackers - it was delicious but the quantity was disappointing! (3 pcs of garlic confit, tiny cheese triangle) 3. Crème brûlée for dessert was fab! We got our own wine and they charged a corkage fee for that. This is one of my FAAAAVORITE restaurants of all time. The food is stellar, as is the ambiance & service. It's on the pricier end so I typically enjoy the happy hour specials (3-5pm) but for special occasions I come for dinner and am always blown away. Chicken liver mouse, local oysters, delicious cocktails. I'd recommend getting a few apps/small plates and sharing so your taste buds can have the full experience. I walked by this cute little Italian restaurant and had to stop in for their happy hour and it did not disappoint. All the dishes were made with local ingredients and it tasted incredible. I think the best dishes were the raw oysters and the chef's pasta of the day. I also got to try chicken liver for the first time. Although not my cup of tea, my friends said that the jam and salt complimented the chicken liver mousse nicely. Our waitress was so nice and helped us figure out which drinks would pair nicely with our meal and always made sure we had water. I wish this restaurant wasn't so far from where I lived because I would definitely go too often. However, if you're ever visiting the Port Townsend area or live in the neighborhood, please check this place out! read more

I'd found this little French restaurant on Google Maps a year ago, and told myself if I ever ended up in Port Townsend, I'd stop in and check it out. Today was the day! It just so happened that we'd arrived during Happy Hour; the half of the restaurant containing the main dining room was still closed, being prepped for the upcoming dinner service, but the bar and its smattering of tables, as well as the outside patio, were operating in full swing. We ordered a couple of cocktails (an Old Fashioned and a White Port and Tonic) and an appetizer (croquettes), all of which appeared before us lighting quick. As a connoisseur of Old Fashioneds, I was not disappointed whatsoever. Both the quality of the drink, as well as the price (only $6 at Happy Hour!) were fantastic. My wife had never had a White Port and Tonic before (although she subbed out soda in favor of the tonic, as she usually does), but she also enjoyed it. My singular sip of her beverage reminded me somewhat of a martini, without the olives, but my experience with such drinks is minimal, so pay my opinion very little mind. The croquettes, four cute little potato pills filled with cheese, were delicious little morsels, of which I could have eaten many, many more orders, if I'd happened to be hungry enough to do so. Having dined and "grazed" at several establishments throughout the day, that wasn't happening on this particular visit, but our experience here on the whole, from service to servings, was wonderful. I felt a bit cheated (not their fault!) in that we arrived before dinner, and our plans and schedule, having been disrupted by the unreliable ferry service in Port Townsend, conspired in such a way that we would not be able to return to Finistère for the rest of this weekend's trip. However, all that means is that we have to come here again in the near future, for the full experience; a dinner date my wife and I are both looking forward to, with tremendous glee! read more
