I was back in PT for the first time in a long time, an old friend suggested we meet here for breakfast. It was really good food and a great setting to catch up in. We had seen each other in over 20 years, and had a lot to talk about. We were there for the better part of 3 hours and they never acted like we were a burden at all. My wife and I went on a night they feature prime rib. Place closes at 7pm. We arrive at 5:30p and we're told they are almost out. There were a total of 6 people in the place. The waitress started complaining that she works too many hours and just wanted to go home. Anyway, we both ordered our prime rib medium rare. Waitress said unlikely we will get it prepared like that as only "well done" was probably left. I told her if that's the case we will not take it. We heard her in the kitchen say to the cook.."I have a couple here that are complaining they will only take it medium rare". Since when is having your meat prepared the way you want a complaint? She didn't realize we heard her say that. When the meal came it was cooked well past "well done". Very over cooked, very fatty, and dry. We refused the meal as I did not want anything that looked like that. Waitress got real pissy with us and at that point I'd had enough of her sass. Walked out. Will never return. read more

Here's the thing. The food is good and consistent. Some of the best hasbrowns around But here's my big thing...we are back in a State ordered Mask Mandate due to the rabid increase on COVID and yet not a single person was wearing a mask. Not the servers, not the cooks, even when they are walking around the restaurant floor. I can tell from the signs that this is a "you have a choice place," but when a mandate is put in place, compliance is not an option. This place was shut down for months after the last wave. This was a happening place the morning that I went to make a presentation to the local Kiwanis group, who holds their meetings at the restaurant. There were several groups meeting in different rooms of the restaurant. The Kiwanis were in one section, a group of folks talking about cremation options were in another room, and another group was busy chatting away about whatever their topic was in another section of the restaurant. The restaurant space that we were in was very conducive for the 35 or so individuals that were in attendance. So, for a place that you need for pretty good-sized group meetings, this restaurant seems to be able and ready to accommodate. The host and wait individuals were super spectacular. Very attentive, kind, and willing to take the time to go over the menu options an answer all kinds of questions. The menu was pretty extensive and it was breakfast, lunch, and dinner, available all day. And, though my meeting was at noon I chose a breakfast option. I had the corned beef hash with scrambled eggs and toast. Oh, and a glass of iced tea. While the corn beef hash was simply okay, it was definitely worth the money because you could not walk away from that plate still hungry. In fact, I could not eat about half of what was served to me. And that's saying something because I'm a pretty big eater. So the Highway Twenty Roadhouse is not a restaurant that I would go out of my way to go to, but if I am on my way to or from an activity in Port Townsend, and I had a hankering for diner style food I would visit. read more

Came here for breakfast on our way back out of town. We walked in and the one waitress didn't acknowledge us . We find ourselves a seat and my husband suddenly has ants crawling all over his shirt!! Then we looked closer and there were ants all over the table! GROSS! We got up and left immediately! Just a good wipe down with Lysol in between customers would be great advice for this dump! read more

We seated ourselves to the cafe bar right in front of kitchen. Great service with refreshing cold glasses if iced water. Quick service. Chicken fried steak was cooked nicely along with golden hashbrowns and eggs. My friend ordered lunch special which was BLT &Turkey on croissant with cup of homemade navy bean soup. So delicious. This place has the best cheap breakfast around. It's a basic diner that provides all the good classic breakfast items that a diner should. There's a few breakfast places in the area that one could argue are better however, if your looking for a Breakfast that tastes great and is relatively cheap I don't think you can beat this restaurant. It does have a dive bar connected to it that had a history of being able to get rowdy on certain nights but the owners have been trying to make subtle changes here and there to keep the place updated and nice. I visit Port Townsend every year and decided to try this place for the first time. I will not be going back. Walking in, you sit yourself which is fine. We had 5 and instead of server asking if they could help us put tables together, we had to do it ourselves because they only have tables for 2 or 4. Server brought us water and then 3 of us asked for Dr Pepper. It was not Dr Pepper. We were calling it Dr Roota Cola. Because it tasted like a combination of the 3. When ordering, we asked for a few substitutions and the server got real short and would just walk off to go ask the cooks if she could do it certain modifications. I work in the food industry and that's just not how you handle things. You say, let me go ask the cooks politely. She needed a little more training in hospitality and how to react to situations like that. I got the bacon and eggs full order. 4 pieces of bacon, 2 eggs, hashbrowns and you can choose from 2 pancakes or 4 pieces of toast. Tried asking for 1 pancake instead of the hashbrowns and taking 2 pieces of toast away and the cooks wouldn't do it. Which I think was stupid, Bayview down the road would do it at no extra charge. So the 5 of us at the table ordered different stuff and just switched things around ourselves. Getting the food, the bacon did not have hardly any flavor, toast was soggy from being soaked in butter. Eggs seemed like they came from a carton and not fresh. Only thing that I think was decent was the pancake my mom split with me. She got my hashbrowns and I got one pancake from my mom. Pancake was decently fluffy and the syrup was alright. Nothing I would brag about though. Towards the end of the meal, our server got nicer but that was only after she heard us talking about they way she was behaving. Because of everything I experienced, I gave this place a one star and recommend you go to Bayview just a little more in town, if you want a good breakfast. read more

Awesome Nightlife We didn't eat in the restaurant, so I can't comment on the food. While visiting Port Townsend we asked a local 30-something what the best night spot to hang out was. He asked what we liked to do and we answered we love some good music. He recommended heading up to the Roadhouse. We walked in about 10:15 to a DJ playing (later found out it was JNR Entertainment based in Port Townsend) amazing lights on the dance floor, we are from Seattle and didn't expect such an elaborate display so it was a great surprise. The drinks were reasonable, with a super nice bartender who went out of her way to make things well. The only downfall was the restaurant itself was in need of repair. The bathroom doors didn't have locks and they had plungers sitting in them which was definitely a bit on the tacky side. The pool tables have definitely been used & we weren't sure if the air hockey even worked... it looked like it might. Overall the night was made by the awesome DJ's who were totally approachable and open to requests too. They had Grease as a request from an older couple still at the bar and had no qualms with playing it. Now that's some customer service. read more

I stopped by with my two kids on our way back from a visit. This is a pretty classic diner, but I was very impressed with our waitress. She was very kind to my two sons - much more than many restaurants. The food was standard - all-day breakfast, plus a decent short order selection. The kids meals were decently sized as well. Everything we ordered tasted fine. I liked this place overall, and would probably go back if I was in Port Townsend again. read more

Visited on a Saturday afternoon around 2pm. The place wasn't busy at all yet it took nearly a half hour to receive our food. Both burgers weren't bad but nothing special. Definitely not worth 11 dollars each. The fries weren't seasoned and were floppy. Our water glasses were refilled once in 45 minutes. BEWARE. Horrible food and service and very overpriced. We ordered two chicken strip meals (with salads) to go. When I arrived the had TWO chicken strips cooked. I politely informed the young lady of her mistake. She looked at me blankly, said she was not the person who took the order over the phone then proceeded to walk away from me towards the kitchen, no apology, no other communication besides stopping on her way towards the kitchen to ask me what I ordered. She then put the correct order in. She packaged up the food to go and did not include napkins or forks for our salads. I had to go back in after I was pulling out of the parking lot to ask for them. We were so happy to find a place that serves breakfast all day-a different restaurant we tried had stopped serving breakfast at 11:30! Unfortunately, the food was subpar (even for a greasy spoon type place), the prices were a little high and the service wasn't very good. We had debated ordering a half size of each breakfast, but I'm glad we didn't because the portions were tiny. I ordered a "hash" (which was $8.50 and didn't come with eggs) and my husband ordered an omelette, they were both tiny and fit on salad sized plates. We had planned on taking half home for later, but finished our meals and weren't even full. Next time we go to town, we will just go earlier and eat at another breakfast place. read more

Good times, great food, pleasant conversation. I like the 1/2 order breakfasts, and they're often too large to eat! Might be the best hashbrowns ever. The staff on the morning shift provides plenty of entertainment, and keeps my water glass and coffee topped off.
