Here's what's up. The place in the evening is packed. This bottlenecks everything else about the restaurant. Pick up orders both called in and done through uber/doordash start to fall behind and people begin stacking in the entrance. It is clear that this place needs to change it's business model be it move to a larger location, charge higher prices to lower demand, or hire on more kitchen staff to meet demand. I have been here a number of times. Their food is very tasty and especially the lemongrass soup. I did not take pictures because we did takeout and takeout pictures don't do any service for the good food. They are very predictable, which is what you want in a restaurant. The Phad Thai was a bit dry.. The vegetable and shrimp tempura did not have your average tempura batter so that also was a bit dry. The price on the website and the price inside the store with totally different so I could've afforded to Delivery by the time I got there and they added their pricing. Not cool. read more

Not sure how to rate this place. This my second time doing a takeout from here. Ordered Chicken Pad Thai... was really enjoying the noodles well made and all.... but got a real shock when I bit into a long piece of plastic... see the pic... This appears to be a top of a plastic bag that was cut... unfortunately it was left in the dish.... makes me wonder what it was doing in the kitchen in the first place... was the noodles precooked and just heated up? We order Thai regularly from a few of the well known Thai places in Loudoun, Herndon and Reston. Always good, but Finn Thai Reston delivery has been exceeding expectations. Food arrives fresh and it is just like eating at the restaurant. We find that the delivery option from our other favorites simply don't provide the same quality or food experience. The portion sizes are really big! I noticed on Ubereats there wasn't an option to add beef (only chicken or shrimp). Also, no choices for the heat level but I think that was supposed to be added in the comments. The pad thai was sweet but I wish it was a bit more flavorful. Drunken noodles were definitely spicy, the kind that builds over time. It consisted of tomatoes, onions, and lettuce and basil. I really appreciated the fact that the beef was tender and not dry. I had take out for the first time from here last week. There was a large group, so we got to try a lot of different things! The spring rolls were very good, cooked perfectly - thinly rolled. We've dined in and gotten taken a few times and have had all good experiences. Today I came with two of my kids and the experience was outstanding. Our server, Amandine, was wonderfully attentive and helpful, and she really went above and beyond. The food itself was all delicious. We ordered an assortment of appetizers (chicken satay, potstickers, and crispy tofu), the chef's fried rice, and the cashew chicken (they kindly dialed down the spiciness for us). It was all cooked and spiced to perfection! Pro-tip: ask for some extra chicken satay sauce for dipping the tofu. read more

This place is so cute inside. It is pretty spacious and I love the decor. The only thing that they definitely need help with is more staff working. For a Sunday night even starting right at 6 PM they were incredibly busy. The phone was ringing nonstop, people were coming in for takeout orders, and to dine in. However the food was amazing. The chicken satay was so tender and served with peanut sauce. I tried the fried rice which was pretty good but not amazing compared to some other places even though it was a side of fried rice so maybe the full serving size tastes a little different? And I tried the Penang curry with chicken. The serving size is huge but I noticed that they are definitely less sauce heavy and more meat heavy for their curries. I do like curry with more sauce so I was kind of missing all the extra sauce. However the chicken was tender and the Penang curry was very flavorful. I will definitely come back again. Had a bite of the cashew chicken - sooo good and what a unique flavor! Def had some kick to it but again not much sauce. read more

This review is for several delivery meals I ordered in the past week (I work at home). Twice, I ordered Siam Beef -It was delicious both times, but a bit overcooked once. I also ordered Tom Ka Gai twice --very nice both times! Green Chicken Curry was excellent as was the Seafood Madness soup. This place seems to be slammed by an abundance of customers, so these deliveries came late, but they weren't more than 20 minutes late. I have had Thai food all over the country, and indeed around the world. While my favorite Thai restaurants are in Sydney and Bangkok, I adore the food and have some local favorites as well. ...Finn Thai is pretty good for a brand new place that is far too busy! I think the food is quite good! My 3 star rating is a bit low, but then I was not knocked out by the experience. I intend to eat in the restaurant, and would have once so far but it really was slammed and the wait seemed extremely long. I think this is a great choice for Thai carryout in the Northpoint area. I'll try dine-in and update my review afterward. I know that the owners have several restaurants in the area, which still does not make it a dreaded chain... Local places are my favorite and I hope Finn can settle down and become a great restaurant! read more

I haven't had the opportunity to dine-in here yet, but the food has been consistently excellent from delivery (Door Dash). We've tried a variety of the entrees, and they've all been full of wonderful flavor -- it's difficult to decide whether to order again something already thoroughly enjoyed (to which my family often defaults) or try something new knowing that it'll likely be just as good (to which I usually default). It might take a little experimentation to decide what spice level works for you out of three levels: no spice, Medium, and Thai Spicy. Medium is our go-to, and we like spice heat. (It could be a little hotter to us, but we have a healthy fear of "Thai spicy" after experiences elsewhere so haven't tried theirs...yet. :) ) Admittedly, there have occasionally been slight variances in how hot "Medium" is across the dishes -- perhaps depending on who makes it that day -- but in general we've found the spice level to be consistent. With food this good from delivery, I definitely look forward to trying the food in person! read more

I placed an order for Pad Thai today specifically stating no scallions no bean sprouts. This place is my go to for Thai and I've always had a good experience in the past and come often. However today when I picked up my order there's a pile of scallions and bean sprouts right on top. I had really been craving Pad Thai and was starving. I tried calling from the minute they open, and 4 times before i got through (10 minutes after opening) and it was 15 minutes to be ready. Last thing I wanted to do was wait another 15 minutes for a new one. So I tried just scraping it off and eating some, but I hate the taste of scallions and just didn't want more. I called to let them know they messed up the order and was going to call it a loss, but the lady offered to make me a new one and luckily I don't live too far, and i wanted to enjoy my food. I brought the messed up one back and they had a complimentary Thai ice tea for me which was nice. However after I arrived home the restaurant calls me and tells me I can't have eaten any of the food if I'm returning it. I told her I was hungry and ate some, there was plenty left and it's not like I brought them an empty container and said another please. She said the chef told her to call me and next time I can't eat any. First of all there shouldn't be a next time that you mess up my order and I have to return the food, and second you took the time to call me to complain that I ate some of the food...seriously!? I was really blown. This was your mistake and it was an inconvenience to me. Don't bother me because I took a couple bites. I think I'll drive further next time and go with a place that's not petty. I spend a lot of money here , bring friends and coworkers, this was a let down. read more

I'm giving Finn Thai a generous 2 stars, I wanted to give them a 1 but I'm in a good mood today so they get the benefit of my emotion. The customer service here is terrible. Let me paint the picture. A friend of mine lives near FT and orders carryout from there very often. In fact, he had ordered 2 nights prior to our trip there. Yesterday, we placed a call ahead order at about 4:00 PM. We arrived at the restaurant 20 minutes later to pick up. When I walked in, I was the only customer in the whole restaurant and there was one order sitting on the counter waiting to be picked up. There was a hostess standing at the podium/front desk, an employee eating her meal at a table, and a cook/bartender wiping down the empty bar. The hostess greeted me and asked what I wanted. I said I was picking up an order. She asked for the name on the order. I assumed it was my friend's name who had placed the call so I said so, and she rudely said there is no order for that name only another order for another name that had already been picked up. I called my friend who was waiting in the car to confirm. He said he didn't give a name when placing the order. I turned back to the hostess and told her what we had ordered. She could've checked the one order that she had in the system or checked the receipt on the bag waiting on the counter but she did neither. Instead she just continued to say that no one had placed an order, our name didn't exist, and that the only order was under the other name. She didn't try to resolve the situation at all nor check our order to confirm that maybe the existing order was one and the same and that she just had the name wrong. Needless to say, I took the initiative and asked her if i could place the order then since it looked like she had no recollection of our order that we had placed 20 minutes earlier and which was the only order the restaurant had received at that time. (Side note, I confirmed with my friend that he did in fact call the correct Finn Thai location and place the order with them as the number he dialed matched the one on the menu). After I placed my order with the hostess, she went into the kitchen and came back out with 2 receipts for the exact same order. She then said it was very confusing because when she entered the order into the computer it came up as a doordash order and the other order that had been sitting on the counter the entire time had another name on it (turns out the name on the order was my friend's daughter's name because I guess the last time he called in an order was for her and it saved his number as that name). Either way, I still don't understand how the only phone call order that had come in during the last 20 minutes could be so confusing and why the hostess decided her time was better spent arguing with me than just checking the order to confirm it was mine. Needless to say, she gave me the bag that had been sitting on the counter this entire time and which had a receipt on it that confirmed it was the exact order I had mentioned to her. No apologies, no "thank you", just continued attitude as if it was my fault that I placed the order correctly and she got confused about it. When we finally ate our food, it was good, but nothing special. There are countless Thai restaurants in the area that do it better. We ordered Siam duck which was average. Not as good as any of the restaurants in the Thai Luang chain (Thai Luang, Nunu's, Thai Tada). I also ordered Massamun Curry which was average. If the food had been spectacular, I would've given this restaurant a pass, but since there are many options with equal or better quality food nearby that have much better customer service, I will not be going back to Finn Thai again, not even for carry out. Ambience is very nice and food is good. However, I must rate this place low as the waitress/hostess was very rude. Have been to this place a few times and she has been off putting from walking into the door to the end of the meal. We were caught off guard as how rude she was and made the experience not pleasant at all. Food is a bit more expensive than other Thai restaurants around the area and lunch special does not come with much, again, compared to other Thai restaurants around the area. Excellent Thai food, plain and simple. This place just opened in the North Point shopping center and us a welcome addition to Reston. The quality of the food shows in just how busy they are so quickly. The crispy duck entree I had was easily one of the best versions of the dish I've had- so tender and flavorful, I'm getting hungry just writing about it. Back again, this time for carryout. I was able to place my order right away and was told it would take about 20 minutes. After maybe just 5 minutes, the food was out and ready for me! Wow! I ordered green curry with chicken, but without the eggplant. Plenty of flavor and lots of veggies. The curry was very, very spicy for me though, and I haven't been able to eat more than a small portion of it a day. I guess it will last me longer! Similar to my last order, rice portions here are too small compared to the proportion of the meal that they go with. I had to make my own rice to supplement. Great addition to the strip! The design inside is so cute, small but lots of personality. The menu isn't overwhelming which is great, we started with a soup, it was a creamy coconut base and my fiancée and I split it, so good and great size considering we split it. I went with a traditional pad Thai, plate presentation was clean, food was hot and delicious. I was STUFFED half way through, the kind of stuffed where you can't just keep going even tho you enjoy it so much. The portion was worth it, my fiancée got the cashew chicken and man that was a LOAD of meat, also very flavorful served with a side of white rice. OK, first things first. The food is fantastic. If I stopped there, this would be a 5 star review but these folks are still clearly figuring things out. The staff are very friendly but whether you dine in or take out, the experience is painfully slow and chaotic from start to finish. They need more help up front - it's not a one person job! It's a small place, cozy, with tight but not uncomfortable seating. It's definitely not a good place for a large group. We noticed two window tables on our first visit which seemed to be a major issue for wait staff because they had to fight through the crowd to get to the tables. Our second visit found those tables unused. My suggestion, replace the tables with some comfortable chairs for waiting customers. People are a lot less grumpy when they don't have to stand AND wait for their table/food. We will be back -- hopefully they will get better. read more
