Thank you Fins Up for making our scuba trip to Hawaii possible!
    Jessica L.

My boyfriend and I did our open water dive certification here and it was a marvelous choice! Chris and Nicole are amazing, they are the owners and instructors. There are other part-time instructors and they are all wonderful people. There are online materials that we have to finish before we can participate in class at the pool and lake. There is 1 pool day (8am-5pm); and two lake days. The pool day starts off with swimming 4 laps and floating/treading water for 10 minutes. Then you move on to learn the skills, but I unfortunately did not finish the course. Chris worked with my schedule and found me another instructor, Donna. Donna was available to accommodate my schedule and gave me private lessons. She is super awesome and she is so patient with me; she helped me cope with my fear of clearing the mask underwater and I eventually got my certification just in time before our vacation to Hawaii. I highly recommend Fins Up Scuba if you are looking to get certified in a fun and supportive environment!

Amazing dive shop! Chris and Nicole go out of their way to make sure you have the best experience possible! We've done certifications, bought gear, and done a trip with them and constantly recommend them to family and friends!

Found these guys on Groupon and made the plunge (hehehe) based on Yelp reviews. What an awesome scuba shop!!! Chris and Nichole are the nicest and most patient scuba instructors; Fins Up Scuba literally could not get any better! I am headed to Australia in a few weeks and wanted to get scuba certified so I can dive on the Great Barrier Reef. To be honest, I was terrified of scuba diving before going through these classes. I don't even like snorkeling, but my friend who I'm traveling with insisted that we dive on the reef. Happy to report that I am now PADI certified, and feel confident enough to get out and dive while in Australia!!! After seeing Fins Up Scuba on Groupon, I decided to call and get more information. I had about 20 questions and Chris answered everything without missing a beat. From our initial conversation, I felt comfortable with him and confident that I would be well taken care of. I stopped by the shop to sign up for the e-learning class - it's about $20 more than the Groupon, but you can do all the learning online rather than spending an entire Saturday sitting in their classroom. There are 6 online modules to go through before you take a quick test in-person. You have to do the online modules and test before you can do your pool dives and lake dives. The package price includes all your gear rentals for all of your dives. Fast forward to the dives - we spent an entire Sunday at a pool in East Mesa (literally 8am-5pm). There were two instructors, one dive master/instructor-in-training, and 5 students total. What a great student-teacher ratio!! You have a lots of skills to learn, and 5 short dives in the pool to practice the skills. The next weekend, we all gathered at Lake Pleasant to do our lake dives (2 on Saturday, 2 on Sunday, 4 "open water" dives total). While Lake Pleasant isn't necessarily a diver's paradise, it's such a rush to be diving for real! I would highly recommend Fins Up Scuba to anyone who is considering scuba lessons. I could not be more impressed with Chris and Nichole and the shop that they run. They are fantastic teachers, truly passionate about their sport and they make safety a high priority. From starting as a terrified student to now being PADI certified to dive up to 60 feet, I can say with confidence that I couldn't have done it without them! Thank you Chris!!! Thank you Nichole!!! 5 stars for service, 5 stars for convenience, 5 stars for professionalism. Do yourself a favor and call them now!

Recent trip to Bonaire with Fins Up Scuba, it was a blast!

The best of the best! Chris and his team are so thorough and make sure you are taken care of. He truly cares about the individual and their needs, and it shows! They're our go to shop for gear and education, and recently travelled with them too. In all our experiences we have nothing but amazing things to say! If you're looking for a local dive shop that really cares about the people, look no further! 10/10 recommend!

Got Scuba certified at Fins Up Scuba. Great instructor's and I had a great time!!! I highly recommend Fins Up Scuba!!!

Kerri came highly recommended by a dear friend after I had several dismal calls with other agents who were slow to respond or tried pressuring me into places we had no interest in. Kerri was always available, thorough, had great insights to so many properties, that she and Sun loved we're our clear choice from our second email exchange. . Our experience was seamless and felt very cared for every step of the way. I'm used to people going above and beyond. I only used Kerry because I was a bridesmaid and she was the travel agent involved. If you're thinking about using Kerry, know that she will get the job done--100%! I booked the room, paid her for it, and had no issues. The transfer went perfectly, and her emails and advice were accurate. However, I later found out she didn't get me the best price. She even offered to price match, which tells me she knew she wasn't offering the lowest rate. I feel a bit ripped off. It was a significant price difference--not just $100. So, if you're considering using her, be aware that she will get you a group rate, but not necessarily the best rate. I was also annoyed that she didn't automatically secure or offer early check-in. She knew we were arriving early and that we had a young child in tow (we didn't end up bringing her, but she didn't know that). She should have anticipated this and gone the extra mile. The wedding was at a large resort, and we were checking in on a Wednesday--not exactly a peak travel day. While I should have thought about this myself, I'm used to it being taken care of, so I didn't even think to ask. She didn't even offer! I felt like this was lazy. So, if you just want the job done, go with Kerry. She won't disappoint on that front. But, If you want the best travel agent and the lowest price, go with someone else.

Peak Planet is the BEST tour operator for a Kilimanjaro summit or Safari. I just returned yesterday…read morefrom a private (my nephew and me) 9-day Lemosha Route climb (7 days on the mountain) and a 3-day luxury safari. Ethics- There are a few less expensive operators, but we quickly learned how they were cutting corners. It was heartbreaking to see how these lesser operators treat their porters. In contrast, Peak Planet employees were happy, and strong, and praised the company they worked for openly as they described how Peak Planet even helped them during the pandemic when there were NO touring clients. The guides had experience with other operators prior to Peak Planet and said that Peak Planet was superior. Value- Excellent. With Peak Planet, you get knowledgeable guides, medical assessments, quality equipment ie. a tent, a private clean porta-potty tent, optional rental gear (we rented Altox O2 and one sleeping bag), and the most committed enthusiastic crew for safe successful summiting without the price tag of those household name operators. Communication- Excellent. I emailed Ben a few times from home. He was quick and appropriate with his responses. Once we arrived in Tanzania, everything went exactly as planned. The driver met us at the airport and drove us to the hotel. The following day we met Tumaini, Peak Planet's operations manager in Tanzania. He introduced us to our guides and gave us an extensive briefing. Our guides, Emanuel and Chacha spoke English very well and communicated with us every step of the way. They constantly checked in to see how we were feeling and briefed us daily on the next day's plan including how we should dress for the mountain weather. They often stopped on the trail to share their knowledge of plants and animals. We developed a real friendship with our guides. Safety- Peak Planet is very safe. We made sure we locked our car doors to and from the airport and while traveling to and from the safari parks. We also had a few layers of money belts since you carry a lot of cash (for tipping) when en route. However, you don't have to worry about it while hiking Kili. You leave it in the manager's safe at the initial hotel with a copied check-in receipt. Your bags are carefully watched by Peak's Planet's porters for other group invasions. On summit day, a porter is posted to guard your tent's belongings at the busy base camp. As far as Acute Mountain Sickness, the guides are knowledgeable, and attentive, and won't let you get into any trouble. We rented one Altox O2 to take with us on summit day, but we did not need to break it out. I liked having it, just in case. Food- This is an area I knew I would struggle with. I am very picky. My nephew is of average adventure in the palate. Our cook was excellent. He made delicious fresh food. I am not used to the rich foods and the portions he made. I lost my appetite pretty quickly but Chef was accommodating because I could only eat soups, bananas, toast, and fruit juice. My nephew continued to enjoy all the dishes. Portions were HUGE. Chef made the sweetest gesture with a congratulatory decorated cake and sparkling juice for our summit. Luxury Safari- Our guide, Victor, was very knowledgeable and had a great eye to find all the animals. He was a very skilled driver and followed the rules to protect animals and habitats. The Lion's Paw resort was extraordinary. The accommodations nestled on the top of Ngorongoro Crater were luxurious with breathtaking views and excellent food and service. On our last night, we stayed at Ang'ata Tarangire Camp. Unfortunately, their water truck didn't arrive as expected so we were unable to shower, or even flush the toilet. I understand that with remote access, things like this can occur, but it was the night before we had a dusty safari and a more than 24 hr flight back to Los Angeles. We had to lean in hard to our flexibility. I do not consider Ang'ata Tarangire Camp to be a luxury accommodation, but you can't beat the location. Summary- Go with Peak Planet!

I am not an experienced backpacker and was naturally anxious about such a big trip to a foreign country. I had lots of questions but Dana was very patient and detailed in answering them all. Compared to other groups we saw, you could tell Peak Planet ran a extremely professional, organized operation. The guides really made our trip. They checked out vital signs every day to make sure we were healthy. I felt great the whole time. And the porters were so strong and helpful. It was humbling to each them zip past us with our bags. The safari likewise was great. We saw the big five and much more. Our guide found every animal we wanted to see and took the time to explain their behaviors. Better than the Discovery Channel. Finally we went to Zanzibar's white sand beaches plus a tour of Stone Town to cap it off. Relaxing and beautiful. I highly recommend Peak Planet to anyone i Stern's Ted I'm visiting Tanzania.

We took the "Hola Europa" tour, and I honestly don't recommend it. In the smaller cities, we only stopped for an hour or two at most--just enough time to stretch our legs, take a few pictures, and look for a bathroom. There was barely any time to explore. When I stopped by the shop on a Friday to rent a regulator, the employees immediately greeted me and engaged me in conversation; they made me feel at home. Then on Sunday, I boarded the Diver Down and received the same warm welcome and friendly treatment from the boat's entire crew. The shop's boat, the Diver Down, likewise impressed me. It's a clean, well-maintained, and well-organized pontoon boat, with ample under-bench storage and walkways. I quite also like the lack of scuppers along the bench's underside; it's a small detail, but I knew that if my stuff got loose, it couldn't slide into the drink. Plus, the Diver Down features a well-organized and well-stocked supply of weights, as well as complimentary water and soft drinks. It's a nice ride. Similarly, the regulator I rented from Cyborg Pirate showed me that they're a serious shop. It was in excellent condition, with a DIN connection and a well-considered mix of rubber and braided hoses. Clearly, these folks are serious divers and aim to serve people of the same mindset. And, of course, the dives themselves were excellent. We anchored off an underwater hill that started at 35' and descended to well over 100', where my insta-buddy -- the boat's normal captain, who was fun-diving for the day -- led me on a deep dive into the 40'+ viz area at depth. Then, for the second dive, one of the divemasters arranged a friendly search-and-recovery competition. I didn't win, but I still had a great time. All told, my experience with Cyborg Pirate deeply impressed me. I recommend this shop, and I'll definitely go back again.
