My review is related to my very recent dining experience at FEPC. Despite friends talking up this restaurant and the decor, two things which I find very important, fell WAY short for CT pizza. First, I've NEVER experienced a pizza restaurant in the US (I travel a lot!!!!) that doesn't present patrons with upfront pricing for different pizza toppings. I asked and the answer I received was. it'll be tallied after ordering (never provided until the check came, see image). The second item is the pizza, it was received much, much cooler than one would expect from pizza coming out of a very hot brick oven. Also, taste & flavor fell VERY SHORT of what someone would expect from Connecticut pizza. I hate to this, but I actually found better pizza in Florida (I'm not comparing our great pizza establishments in New Haven to anyone else in the US, we know they have definitely set the bar). Its unfortunate, I believe the current business model at FEPC doesn't create repeat customers like today, just one timers, we don't plan on returning. Truly disappointing. read more

Been coming here for years and last night walked in about 7:45, Trivia was going on but wasn't super busy. Room to the left was empty, and the hostess told us it would be a few mins for 5. 30 mins goes by and we ask if it will be much longer, she says there's a big party taking up where they could sit 5 people and another group is done but talking so just a few more mins. We waited another 10 mins and she said not sure. Half the party had left and tables were empty, and the room they usually host parties in was empty. We ended up leaving and going somewhere else cause at this point it's almost 9.... Was really disappointed. The service here has never been perfect but the timing estimations made us feel like they were cleaning up tables not us waiting for 40 mins with no end in site. I've never waited here and the resturant had empty tables in the bar and dining area but for some reason we could only site at this one area. read more

This place seemed interesting. However, pizza reminds me of Chuckie Cheese pizza (it is a little better). The clam sauce is a crime scene. It lacks any clam flavor, but the canned clams seem like they were opened last week. I don't understand how the dried cheese on top could taste like an old shoe. Went into this in a whim, passed by one day looked interesting. So glad we chose to come in. The waiter n bartender was very attentive to us and made us have a wonderful time made us laugh so much. Even the kids had fun they also enjoyed all the firemen decorations around the place. Went here last night after a very long work day. The pizza was great! The service was good! The vibe was fun!

I stopped in here for a meal as this place had been on my radar for a while and was looking forward to trying it out. I arrived around 2:00pm, and the place was mostly empty. I didn't think much of it, as it is past lunch but before dinner, so I was expecting it to be a slow period. When I walked in, the hostess was looking at me, but did not say anything, which I found odd. I asked for a table for one, and as is usually the case, was asked if I wanted to sit at the bar. I did not, so was lead to a table. She took away one of the plates/silverware settings, left the menu, and walked off without a word. No "you're server will be over soon," no "enjoy," nothing. I sat there for quite some time before the waitress came over. As previously stated, it was mostly empty. There was a couple at the table next to me, a woman at the bar, and me. After having read the menu multiple times and completing a crossword puzzle on my phone, my waitress came over and asked if I wanted a drink. I ordered a soda and before I could order, she left to get the soda. I was ready to order, and had been for ten minutes, but was not asked. The waitress returned with my soda and I ordered my pizza. I sat and waited, thinking how uncomfortable the seat was. It was also kind of dreary atmosphere. From the outside, this place looks like it should have a kind of upbeat, fun vibe, but inside it is dark and somewhat depressing. My food came quickly, but in a way that took me by surprise, as I had never once experienced this in my life. The waitress brought out my pizza, but I didn't realize it as first, because she did not acknowledge me at all. She was talking to the couple at the table next to mine, and put my food on the table without even looking in my direction. She never said anything to me. Just put my food down while talking to other people then left. At this point, I felt like I was a massive inconvenience to this establishment. I have never felt so unwelcome in a restaurant before. I always worry about dining alone, as I feel guilty taking up a table for myself. However, the place was empty, so I felt fine about it today. However, everybody's demeanor just made me feel like my presence there was the last thing they wanted. I took the cloth napkin and silverware off of the plate on my table to serve myself some pizza, which is when I noticed my plate was dirty. There was dried tomato sauce on one part of it, like when a dishwasher doesn't get everything off that was caked on a plate. I thought about asking for another plate, but I already had been so ignored and shunned since stepping foot inside that I didn't even want to be bothered. Instead I just dealt with it and ate my food. It's a shame the service was so atrocious because the food itself was pretty good. Nothing amazing, but good enough I would have gone again if I didn't feel like a massive inconvenience to the staff. Needless to say, I will not be returning to this establishment. I tend to be a very easy customer to please. I have worked in the service industry myself, and all of my sisters had spent years as servers, so I know all about difficult customers. I try very hard to be pleasant, I don't ask for anything but rhe very basic service, and tip well. I almost always have great interactions with wait staff, and have never once felt like I wasn't wanted in a restaurant until this experience. I thought the place was empty because it was an odd time to eat on a holiday weekend, but now I wonder if it's because other people received this same service. Either way, I certainly won't be returning. read more

Awful... I wish I could rate Fire Engine Pizza (Shelton) better. I just can't. The Bridgeport location has been consistently good when we have gone....but Shelton has gotten worse. When I refer to worse, both the prices have gone up and the quality of food has not been there...there has been no consistency in what we had been ordering. I understand prices have skyrocketed, but you need consistent quality to justify the increases. We went to try the Mothers' Day. The brunch menu was appealing, so we figured it would be worth a try and see if things turned around at all. From the time we arrived (we did have reservations) it was a letdown. We waited for our table to be "cleaned", and while waiting my wife used the ladies' roomwith our toddler. When she came back, she mentioned how it was disgusting, toilets overflowing, etc. We mentioned it to the host, who quickly had another guest come up to bring forward the same complaint. I then went to use the mens' room, and found it in much the same condition. We were then seated at a table. My wife noticed there was food under our table, and I noticed a few tables had food all over the floor. The room was generally dirty. We waited for some time before wait staff came by to take our drink order and let us know how the buffet was set up....we were thinking about leaving right before she came over. We each went to the buffet line. The selection/options were adequate. Biggest issue is the food was at best room temperature to almost cold. I had the pork from the carving table and it was cold...cooked for sure, but almost like put out without being reheated. Overall food quality was mediocre. The wait staff came by some time later and admitted she forgot about our drinks and then brought them by. We also went to the bread table...of note was that if you wanted toast/bread you had to open the bag ad take bread from the bag...where everyone else grabbed it from too. I would love to see Shelton succeed...the original spot had great food and service. At this point, without major changes, I can't recommend this location at all. read more

I've been looking forward to trying this place since it opened. My son wanted pizza for lunch, so here was my chance. Seated right away and the server came straight over to get drink orders. We ordered Brussel Sprouts, steak tips, ceaser salad with grilled chicken and a pizza for my son. The Brussel Sprouts were warmish and not crispy. The steak tips were extremely salty and a very small portion for the price. My daughter liked the salad and said the chicken on it was great. My son liked the pizza, but my daughter didn't. She said the cheese and sauce tasted weird. I didn't have any, so I can't vote. The service was good throughout the meal, but the waitress disappeared when we wanted to get the check and leave. First and last time for us to eat here. I've heard good things about the one in Blackrock so maybe I'll try that one. read more

Ordered a large pepperoni and bacon pizza with a salad on the side. Pizza was good but the salad was dirty after eating I found a piece with dirt on it. I thought at first maybe it's just crumbs from the croutons but it was not it was definitely dirt. Doesn't look like it was washed. Although the pizza was good, it was hard to eat after seeing that. We hosted a surprise party in their new event dining room for 60 people and it was wonderful! The host, JC, was so attentive to our every need (even sneaking in to make sure the bday girl had a glass of champagne during the bday toast!). We ordered a few appetizers alongside the Captains Dinner buffet - and wow! - the food was delicious. All our guests were raving about how good it was. The proximity of the event space to the bar also allowed for a bit of event overflow, allowing our party to spread out, as we had a lot of winter jackets and people in the space. The whole team at Fire Engine really made the event special and we are so grateful for their help to bring it to life. Would definitely recommend it as a party space and we will be dining in again soon. read more

My wife and I heard they just opened so we thought we would grab a quick lunch. We had a half sausage and half pepperoni pizza and it was delicious. It's brick oven pizza, thin crust, cooked perfectly, just a little black on the edges. We will be back for a full dinner soon. Our server Barbara said they had there soft opening this past Monday. Grand opening commenting in a few weeks. I hope there will be some specials we can take advantage of. Service was great, the decor is bright, they have a large bar. This will probably be a great place for drinks after work. 12/23/19 Update: another great meal. Had a great variety of food tonight. First time here, I've heard good things so wanted to try here. It's a nice restaurant, very clean. The menu has lots of yummy things on it. We decided to try a Cesar salad which was really good. My husband and I wanted to try this restaurant so we'll know what to expect when their Milford location opens. We were there on a Friday night, around 7pm, and were surprised that it wasn't busy. We were seated at a booth in the bar and we immediately commented to each other about how dirty the table and benches were. I went to the ladies room and stood there, stunned at what I was seeing. The middle and last stalls had nearly an inch of water on the floor. There was no toilet paper. Looking at the mirror, I couldn't wrap my head around what I was actually seeing: there were clumps of wet toilet paper that had been thrown on the mirror and had stuck to it. I have never EVER seen anything like this before. Upon leaving the bathroom, I noticed that my sneakers were sticking to the floor, all the way back to our table. I actually returned to the bathroom to take pictures to show my husband because I had no words to accurately describe how disgusting it was! And then our pizza came......we ordered a large cheese. Simple. Our waiter put it down and walked away and we both stared at it, speechless. I know some places like to sprinkle parmesan on top (don't know why) but this pizza was absolutely COVERED in parmesan. Even the edges of the pizza pan were covered in it. We couldn't even see the mozzarella! Now, my husband loves pizza and owned a pizza restaurant nearly 30 years ago, and he said, "I have never seen anything like that before." He tried to get the waiter's attention and eventually had to go to the bar to speak to him. He explained that no where on the menu is it listed that the pizzas are covered in parmesan. The waiter replied to him that it's not on the menu but "that's just what we do with our pizzas." My husband said we would like to order a new pizza without parmesan and the waiter LEANED ON THE BAR AND PUT HIS HAND TO HIS FOREHEAD AND SHOOK HIS HEAD IN DISGUST and went to the kitchen. We got up and walked out. If they can't clean the bathrooms or tables or floors, can you imagine what the kitchen looks like??? Dirty. Disgusting. Rude. We drove up the street to Legends Pizzeria and enjoyed an amazing pizza on paper plates and engaged in a hysterical conversation with the waitress!! read more

Shelton Location: While the food here is pretty good, the service my friend and I received tonight was disappointing and very disturbing. We were met with pretty rude hostesses who did not seem happy to have us there. We waited a long time for drinks, appetizers, and food. It was not busy as this was a Sunday. The worst part of this experience was our waiter. While I believe intentions were pure at first. He relentlessly, consistently, and creepily kept asking my best friend for her number, hitting on her, asking if her boyfriend could fight, and commenting on how beautiful she was and how he couldn't stop looking at her. He even said at one point "I'm not hitting on you". This begs the question, what was his motive and what was the constant badgering if it wasn't "flirting". What he was doing wasn't flirting, wasn't fun, it was blatantly inappropriate and borderline criminally offensive. This man is most likely well into his 40s. My best friend and I are in our early 20s, but for all he knew we could've been teenagers as we didn't order any alcoholic beverages. Really, truly, utterly, downright, wrong. Our entire experience was ruined because of these multiple comments. We were filled with anxiety and urgency to get the check and leave. I will be calling the manager to make sure this employee receives proper reprimands for this behavior. read more

Sadly, this isn't a review about food because I wasn't even able to make it to that point. My group of 7 walked in and was told it would be about a 30-35 minute wait. No problem- we left our name for a reservation and went down the street to pass time. About 25 minutes later, we head back and head inside. Upon entering, absolutely no one is at the front, the phone is ringing, and there's not even many people inside of the restaurant. Despite all of this, when we finally did find a waitress we were told that she was going to get her manager to assist us. Upon hearing this, I was confused as to why it takes getting a manager for us to be seated when we made a reservation 40 minutes ago at this point- but we waited another few minutes for the manager to come out. When she did appear- she seemed to have an attitude and simply tell us that she can't make people leave their tables... which is obvious. She stated that there were previous reservations and they couldn't seat us- but we were one of the previous reservations (from almost an entire hour ago!). It took us finally walking to the door to leave for her to be ready to seat us. No thank you. The pizza was decent when I had it before- but not good enough to go through all this trouble and bad service! read more

I wish I could give Fire Engine more than 5 stars. Fire Engine is an amazing restaurant and their customer service is always a 10/10. Their pizza is phenomenal and their drinks/ dessert are always so enjoyable. The Fones School of Dental Hygiene Class of 2022 (my college class) ordered 12 pies from Fire Engine to celebrate some professors at the end of the semester. Fire Engine typically does not deliver, but they happily delivered our pies to school and it was such a life saver. Definitely try Fire Engine of Shelton or Bridgeport for amazing food, drinks, and atmosphere! read more

Really should be 3-1/2 stars. The service was great. Our waitress was very personable and great with our kids and helped us with some suggestions. we were expecting more of a themed atmosphere. Only a few items on the walls. There is not a kids menu. Our server was helpful in helping with something for my 3 year old which was chicken tenders and fries, but it was $14. The food was good, nothing special and not bad. We did not get the Pizza. Grinders and meatball salad. For the parents of little ones there is no changing area in either the womens or the mens room. A place that serves pizza would be great for family dinners. But only if you have older ones at the moment. read more

Great place! Nice outdoor patio newly redone. They also did a fantastic job immediately after quarantine by setting up a huge tent. It was delightful. They have a killer Caesar salad and KJ Chardonnay. I've had a couple different gluten free pizzas. I'd love for them to offer cauliflower. My friends have enjoyed several different pizzas and entrees - all excellent. Probably even 5 star for food. read more

I grew up in Queens, where we had an excellent pizza place on every other corner, so I admit I'm spoiled. It's hard to impress me, but holy moly, check out the state of this slice! My husband ordered a steak sandwich, which were mostly gristle. We agreed that our dinners were loathsome. Despite the substandard food, we won't complain about the service. The bartender, Sarah, bent over backwards to identify my preferences, and then made me two perfect drinks. The greeter was friendly and professional. The menu is varied and specials can be interesting. Bruschetta good. Dumplings average. Brick oven pizza is what it is. I don't like charred crust and acidic tomato sauce but my husband prefers that style. I appreciate that they always have a nice cold glass for my beer but I don't appreciate being charged for a glass of carbonated water from the fountain. Music playlist tonight was obnoxious. They need to lower the volume when there are only a few diners. Service is average and so are the prices.
