My review is related to my very recent dining experience at FEPC. Despite friends talking up this restaurant and the decor, two things which I find very important, fell WAY short for CT pizza. First, I've NEVER experienced a pizza restaurant in the US (I travel a lot!!!!) that doesn't present patrons with upfront pricing for different pizza toppings. I asked and the answer I received was. it'll be tallied after ordering (never provided until the check came, see image). The second item is the pizza, it was received much, much cooler than one would expect from pizza coming out of a very hot brick oven. Also, taste & flavor fell VERY SHORT of what someone would expect from Connecticut pizza. I hate to this, but I actually found better pizza in Florida (I'm not comparing our great pizza establishments in New Haven to anyone else in the US, we know they have definitely set the bar). Its unfortunate, I believe the current business model at FEPC doesn't create repeat customers like today, just one timers, we don't plan on returning. Truly disappointing.

Clams sauce. It tastes like an old leather shoe that was cut up.

This place seemed interesting. However, pizza reminds me of Chuckie Cheese pizza (it is a little better). The clam sauce is a crime scene. It lacks any clam flavor, but the canned clams seem like they were opened last week. I don't understand how the dried cheese on top could taste like an old shoe. The plastic cheese on the pizza lacked a flavor, but it did have the right texture.

Went into this in a whim, passed by one day looked interesting. So glad we chose to come in. The waiter n bartender was very attentive to us and made us have a wonderful time made us laugh so much. Even the kids had fun they also enjoyed all the firemen decorations around the place. The food and our drinks were so good, appetizers also very good.i highly recommended this place to many friends now in connecticut to visit.

Ordered a large pepperoni and bacon pizza with a salad on the side. Pizza was good but the salad was dirty after eating I found a piece with dirt on it. I thought at first maybe it's just crumbs from the croutons but it was not it was definitely dirt. Doesn't look like it was washed. Although the pizza was good, it was hard to eat after seeing that. Can't speak on service or the ambiance as it was ordered for delivery.

They have large paper straws that last!!!

My wife and I heard they just opened so we thought we would grab a quick lunch. We had a half sausage and half pepperoni pizza and it was delicious. It's brick oven pizza, thin crust, cooked perfectly, just a little black on the edges. We will be back for a full dinner soon. Our server Barbara said they had there soft opening this past Monday. Grand opening commenting in a few weeks. I hope there will be some specials we can take advantage of. Service was great, the decor is bright, they have a large bar. This will probably be a great place for drinks after work. 12/23/19 Update: another great meal. Had a great variety of food tonight. Baked Potato pizza, Jalapeño Polenta, the McKenzie Rose and the Pork Belly garlic bread. Everything we get is tasty, unique.

Bread with oil and balsamic, first time having this and it was really good. Simple yet delicious

The pizza I had was good. It's not thin crust so it's filling. I'll go back if I'm in the area.

Pizza was ok. Disappointed that they were out of olives for a veggie pie. The interior was really cool with all the decorations.

Captain's Pizza is the kind of place you go when you're not trying to impress anyone--you're just…read morehungry and maybe a little emotionally exhausted. And honestly? That's exactly what makes it great. The inside décor hasn't changed since the 80s, and neither have most of the customers. It's a cozy time warp filled with vinyl booths and the comforting hum of people who gave up on trends and leaned hard into personality. There's this older couple that's always there, drinking beer out of a pitcher like it's their second full-time job. They lovingly swear at each other like two pirates celebrating their anniversary. It's bizarrely heartwarming. Like, if The Notebook ended with a bar fight and karaoke. The food? Let's call it classic neighborhood fare with moments of greatness. The kids might say it's "mid," but I say it's dependable--like your dad's old minivan that smells weird but never breaks down. That chicken souvlaki platter, though? It's a thing of beauty. Juicy, flavorful, perfectly seasoned--if they ever try to take it off the menu, I will riot, politely. My wife gets it too because we're both smart and creatures of habit. Our kids split between the chicken fingers (always crispy, no complaints) and the pizza (thick crust, decent flavor, good for soaking up regret and ranch dressing). The waitresses are friendly and clearly overworked, but they still manage to smile and remember your drink order. Heroes in sneakers. Captain's is the kind of place that doesn't care about Instagram likes. It's about real food, real people, and real weird little moments you end up talking about later. It's not trying to be cool--it's just trying to feed you. And sometimes, that's exactly what you need. Would I recommend it? Heck yes. Come for the souvlaki, stay for the couple that argues like it's competitive sport. Long live the Captain.
