I don't like charred crust and acidic tomato sauce but my husband prefers that style. I appreciate that they always have a nice cold glass for my beer but I don't appreciate being charged for a glass of carbonated water from the fountain. Music playlist tonight was obnoxious. They need to lower the volume when there are only a few diners. Service is average and so are the prices. I needed a couple of pizzas on Saturday night and wanted to try something new. I've driven by Fire Engine Pizza numerous times on Bridgeport Ave in Shelton and decided to give them a call - 1 large Mackenzie Rose and 1 large with sausage and caramelized onions. Overall, they were super tasty and the crust was almost NY style (which I prefer over thin crust sometimes)! The Mackenzie Rose had pesto, chicken, tomatoes, fresh mozzarella and balsamic reduction. I knocked off a star because the center of the pizza was a bit soggy and hard to pick up. As you moved away from the center it was definitely structurally better so I'm not sure what happened. My other pizza was less severe in being soggy in the middle. Will be back to try their other specialities! read more

We stopped coming here after I and a couple of other people became ill after eating there but, decided to give it one more chance. Bad idea. Brunch menu doesn't have the add on option for cocktails. Food came out and my chicken cutlet was almost black from being over cooked. Hamburger someone had was overcooked. The second attempt at the chicken was salty and the sandwich was missing some of the toppings. Overall very disappointing except for our server who was wonderful. The few times that I've went there the service has been fantastic. The waiters and waitresses are super friendly. I recommend the speciality pizzas over all. The mashed potatoes is such a sleeper. Very impressed with the menu - they have, like, 20 beers, 20 wines, and cocktails! Aside from pizza, they have several other types of food items - mostly Italian. Of course we just got pizza! They also have a pretty decent looking dessert menu, although I didn't try any. The pizza definitely met expectations. I wish there was a little bit more sauce. When I go back I'm going to order extra sauce on my pie. The crust was perfect just as I would expect in Connecticut. We tried the Margarita pizza with bacon, a cheese pizza, a pepperoni pizza, and the mashed potato special. By far, my favorite was the mashed potato. It was basically extremely good mashed potatoes on the thin pizza crust. It was loaded with bacon cheese and scallions. If you haven't had mashed potato pizza you need to try this. The service was also friendly and the kitchen was quite fast. The décor was also very fun they have a fire truck outside which apparently is a mobile pizza kitchen. Personally, what makes this a must-revisit for me: there were multiple pizzas that could easily be made vegan by omitting the cheese (I had the Primavera and loved it) and better yet, they actually offer a very tasty vegan cheese option! This actually wasn't listed on the menu, but our waitress helpfully offered it to us. My message to the owners: I would really suggest listing this option on the menu as well! My girlfriend and I always research menu options before casting our votes for dinner with her family, and seeing that option online would have made this even more of a no-brainer. The service was good and the place was clean, but if you can't finish the pizza, then I can't give it more than 2 stars. The second star is a sympathy star because the server was so nice. We had a sick cat and were waiting around the corner at the 24 hour Vet. We were getting hungry, so we got take out from Fire Engine Pizza Co. This was a treat as we usually order pizzas from other places and then go home and eat them lukewarm. Fire Engine came out fast and we ate it when it was still steaming. We got 2 pizzas. The Hawaiian was decent, nothing to write home or a 3 star Yelp Review about, but the Mackenzie Rose was inedible. I have had some really bad pie, but I have never had to throw it out. Remember the frozen Elio's we got as kids? That was better! The first bite was amazing, but then I hit the chicken. It tasted undercooked and old, sort of like they had a fire in a chicken coop, put it out, then used the perished chickens in the pie. I thought maybe it was just a bad piece of chicken and continued to eat it. Nope, I hit another hot spot of nastiness. Determined to salvage it, we saved 3/4 of the pie and took it home. The next day, I heated it in the oven to make sure the chicken was done. Unfortunately, the nasty chicken taste came on like a backdraft! I needed to open a fire hydrant and douse my mouth with that much water to get the taste out! This caused me to have to do the walk of shame to the dumpster to throw out the other half of the awful pizza. I guess it isn't fair to just post a bad review; however, here I go. We switched to Firehouse a number of months ago because their crust was outstanding and the mozzarella was so fresh. Last night my husband went out in the rain, about 4 miles, and he came home with a large pizza that only had one of the 3 additions on it that we paid for. The crust was totally black on the bottom.
