We had high hopes for this place. The menu is large and diverse. Pub food-German Food and in between. First off we ordered fried pickles and wings. The pickles were standard and the sauce was a bit sweet but ok. The wings were good but they charge for sauce which is disappointing but at least they were tasty. That's where the good review ends. Next up broccoli cheese soup. It was thin and curdled. Completely flavorless. Please don't bother I got a black and blue burger. It had dried apples and gorganzola. I asked for mid-well and this thing came out a black hockey puck. Totally in edible. The apple is breaded and fried and then a blue cheese sauce is on top which makes it completely soggy. Terrible. Husband got Cajun shrimp which was in a weird tomato sauce. The okra was so bad he spat it out. It could not even be chewed. Everything needed salt. Pass Diner 3 ordered a chicken sandwich with Nashville hot sauce. It tasted so bad he couldn't eat it. It also had cheese that was burnt under the grill. The fries were terrible. Maybe the grease needed to be changed? No thanks Diner 4 got the mushroom Swiss burger. The photo attached was his bun. He ordered it medium rare it was medium at best and was both dry and dripping with grease which is quite the feat. He choked down half but couldn't go on. Moving along The service was good but she definitely needed help. She was handling the bar and dining room herself so some things took a little time but she was kind and attentive. Having worked in restaurants my whole life I would have to say this place has potential but the cook defiantly needs some training on seasoning and attentiveness. The menu needs to be streamlined too. I would not go back and wouldn't tell anyone I knew to go. We've been home a couple hours and 3 out of 4 of us have stomachaches. Good afternoon everyone, I went into this establishment to get lunch. I went back to work took ONE bite because the smell of the Steak G- item on the menu smelled nasty. I took one bite and the food tasted rotten, it was absolutely disgusting. I've never tasted something like it, I had to take extra time out of my busy schedule at work to go back and return it. I wanted my money back, I work hard for what I earn. I asked for a refund they told me no because I waited too long to bring it back... the only thing they could offer is a $15 gift card. The restaurant was completely empty and the food was disgraceful why would I go back? I also payed $26.40 for my meal. I left that establishment at 1:20, got to my job at 1:30 tasted it and called the restaurant to see what my options where they did not answer. Atmosphere was okay, portions were fine, drinks were bland and weak, food was just okay, I ordered the Honolulu Sliders, not sure what the sauce was, but it was not pineapple, more like really watered down tasteless mayo, that made the hockey puck sliders messy to eat, french fries were frozen kind. My wife ordered the scalloped salad, she was not pleased either. My son ordered the sirloin, it was over cooked and he asked for medium, it was extremely fatty and hard to chew. We've been here 3 times and it's been hit or miss. My partner was very happy with the meatloaf special. My friend was happy with the stuffed cabbage casserole. Things that were not as good were the baked Italian sampler: the cheese ravioli came from a bag of frozen ravioli, had hard edges, the sausage was gristly and very greasy and the meatball was super hard and there was hardly any sauce. I left all the meat on my plate plus the hard edges around the ravioli and the waitress never commented. But the most inexcusable thing is the slow service. In spite of all the favorable reviews, I was still shocked to find such a gem in little Dudley. Located in the Airport Rd Shopping Center, this strip mall could use a much needed face lift. On the inside however, it is much more appealing. We had stopped in for lunch so it wasn't too busy at the bar, I could definitely see that crowed being a drawback on a busy weekend evening. We got off to a bit of a rough start as we had to wait a bit without being acknowledged, for a table. While it wasn't that busy, The bar separates the kitchen and the dining room, there is also a partition between the kitchen and the bar, so it's not hard to go unnoticed if there's no one in the dining room. After that, the service improved considerably. Mrs B enjoyed a French Dip Sandwich, while I ha ad the Bourbon Chicken Tips. The food far exceeded our expectations. This place is in Dudley, MA??? No Way! For those unfamiliar with Dudley ... it's a little town in the middle of nowhere in Massachusetts on the CT border. To say that dining expectations in the Dudley/Webster area are low would be an understatement. To me, Eighty Eights is very out of place in its strip mall location next to Park and Shop (Wholefoods prices with the selection of a CVS grocery isle), Family Dollar and Big Lots. Lunch is one of the best deals around ... most anything on the menu that you order for lunch is $8.88 with nothing over $12. The food is fresh, the recipies are good and the preparation is on point. Dinner is a little pricier, but this is food you don't mind paying a bit more than your average restaurant in this location for. Their boneless wings are great ... I recommend paying $1 more for the balsamic buffalo, their signature. Portion is a bit skimpy on the boneless wings, but its probably better for your health that way. Real homemade blue cheese sauce! Chicken Parmesean is my go-to for lunch. Don't expect something out of Little Italy in terms of authenticity ... but it is a very tasty dish. I don't think I have ever once been here with someone who was dissapointed by their food. The menu has a lot of specials as well. While many are kind of confusing (lots of add ons for $.88 or appetizers for $.88 when you buy another product) the waitresses are usually good at pointing them out. Sometimes, during happy hours or ladies' nights ... you order a craft beer or mixed drink and get an appetizer for $.88!! (its a smaller portion but still ... well worth it!) They really have a lot of food/price specials to entice diners. The chef here knows what they are doing! The flavors and seasonings are very robust. This is comfort food at its best and you can get everything from pasta dishes to burgers and bar food. Their website is garbage if you are using an Android phone making it hard to check out the menu, but trust me ... you won't be dissapointed in the number of options or the food. Not sure why there are so many bad/mediocre reviews ... I am very picky and I like this place. It wouldn't be my go-to place when I am in LA or New York ... but to find a place to eat this good in Dudley is like going to an art museum in Cleveland and seeing the Statue of David. This was our first time here. We ate at the bar, and found the service friendly and attentive. But the food wasn't great: my boyfriend ordered the most expensive steak on the menu, and while he said it was tasty, it was extremely salty. I ordered a rib eye that was cooked as ordered (medium rare) but was tough as shoe leather--the toughest rib eye I have ever had. My food was also extremely salty. By chance, a friend was at the bar; he said the food is hit or miss. Years ago I had a terrible experience and promised never to return. I refused to go back, disregarded everyone who swore by it, and now resent my bitterness. Food, service, and value were all great. My burger was cooked to perfection and the fries were outstanding. The only downside would be the location. I'm from Dudley so I personally like having great food so close in proximity but the plaza it resides in isn't exactly appealing to the eye and the interior is very small. Ordered takeout on Monday night, thought we would treat ourselves since we never go out anymore. We ordered $90 with of food. I ordered the ribeye with garlic mashed potatoes and chef vegetables. My bf ordered fish and chips that came with steak fries. We also ordered fried pickles, potato skins and onion rings. The ribeye was the skinniest poorest excuse for a ribeye I have ever seen. I gave it to my dog. The vegetables where an inedible steam bag of peas and pearl onions and the potatoes were, well, even the dog wouldn't eat them. This turned out to be a great place. We had our moments of doubt -- it's in a strip mall in Dudley and it had a weird blue glow to it. I knew I'd read go things on Yelp and in the local paper so we chanced it. We were not disappointed with anything. We had great drinks and entrees. He got veal parm w/ ziti -- it was excellent. I went with pasta primavera w/ linguine. Lots of tender crisp veggies done in a light garlic sauce -- so good I even ate the sundried tomatoes (which I usually hate-- in anything). Both dishes came out piping hot and delicious. We ate in silence.....it was that good. Try as we might though we had no room for the tempting desserts. I *so* wanted the chocolate peanut butter pie. I came here at 5:10pm in need of a quick dinner before going off to a late business meeting. I told the waitress that I was in a rush...and the service was instantly turtle slow! Getting my dinner was painfully slow, 25-30 minutes for one person is ridiculous. Staff made matters worse by dancing around with my credit card for 10 minutes and couldn't figure how to get the charge right. Getting dessert took forever too...I was steamed, yet no one came over to apologize for the poor service. My chicken parm dinner was pretty good, The atmosphere in the bar area was nice too. These are the only redeeming qualities keeping me from giving 88's a one star rating. I'm not sure I would return here again, but there are very few other decent restaurants in the area. Eighty-Ates... you and I have a complicated relationship. But in the end, you always come through, and I always come back, and I always end up recommending you to my friends. There's no better place to go in Dudley for a night out for drinks. Eighty-Ates seems to have gotten lost in the space-time continuum and somehow landed in the middle of a Dudley grocery store plaza. Nevertheless, you'll forget all that once you're inside. Very chic, very trendy, very inner city pub feel. With a pub menu to match, but most dishes offer some kind of signature twist and/or nifty presentation. I'm a big fan of the coconut shrimp with calypso dipping sauce. And I'm a really, really big fan of the graham cracker rimmed Cheesecake Martini. Although most entrees range from about $13-18, if I recall correctly, they also offer a smattering of entrees for just $8.88. Service is kind of... hit and miss, at least to start. Although all the servers I've had have been really nice once they noticed me (lol), I've gone in there more than once, been seated and waited twenty minutes just for someone to take our drink order. (Once, our waitress even tried to blame it on one of the other servers. Ouch.) And the outdoor patio was a great concept, but I never sit out there because the "waterfall" is too loud to talk over. You can tell they worked hard to make it a nice place to sit, but it feels to me like a fenced-in sheep pen. And the food, by and large, is tasty; but on my most recent visit, I ordered chicken parm over ziti and some of the ziti was cold. Like, out-of-the-fridge cold. Like, you-can-tell-they-made-this-last-night-and-just-microwaved-it cold. Overall though, I really am a fan of Eighty-Ates. I'd much rather have Eighty-Ates in town than an Applebees or some other chain restaurant. Ordered the Honolulu sliders which should have been great but they use processed, frozen burgers which you can tell immediately from their look, gray color and complete lack of flavor and juiciness. They could save money and elevate their burgers by using actual ground beef and cooking to order. The pineapple condiment was also flavorless and did not come through at all. My plate consisted of two large chicken breasts and what looked like a pound of pasta, I ate until I was full & my take-home container looked like a meal rather then left overs. They are great for couples, groups and family. Kids menu & seating available (highchairs) Great atmosphere. Tv & bar in the back end, while quiet dinning setting up front. I agree with everyone else that it's a hit or miss on service depending who your server is. Apple Martinis here are great!!! My fiancé loves the selection of beers on tap as well. Really the alcohol bevs aren't badly priced for what you get and if you get mixed drinks you don't have to worry you can taste the alcohol in it lol. My fiancé is a cook at Altra Strada at Foxwoods so as a cook himself he is very picky where he eats and he loves eighty ates food. Me I love the food. The display when served is very nice and makes you feel like your at an upscale place. The food has never disappointed us. My personal fav is the Chicken Cordon Bleu it's so good.the carrots that come with it are the best I don't know how they make them but they are great! Price wise it's very affordable and won't break the bank.I love the city feel of the inside, it has very contemporary. It's clean which is a big plus. I am a Dudley Resident and if you are from Dudley, you know that the town is known more for Farms and Houses more than anything else. Don't blink when driving through the downtown because you may miss it!!! When I first went to Eighty Ates, the first thing that came to mind when I walked in was that this was a near exact New York City style Restaurant. It's not sprawling, in fact it's quite quaint. But for the space they were given, the owners surely made the most of it. You won't get intimate dining here unless you go during a down time. The menu is not just the run of the mill bar food or typical small time restaurant "Safe Dishes". There is quite a selection of Gourmet Recipes that would make any "Foodie's" Mouth water... I can always go and find something else that becomes a new favorite of mine. The only issue I have is that Eighty Ates charges City prices for a Small Town Restaurant. I don't see this as a big issue, however I do believe that the lack of competition creates this type of pricing. I would personally recommend Eighty Ates for Lunch, Dinner, or just for a Beer with a friend at their Bar (also a nice plus) to watch a game! read more

Eighty Ates is the biggest thing to hit Dudley in a long time. I've been probably five or six times so far and have not had a bad meal or bad service. Their menu is extensive and fairly creative; good variety of beer; and pretty good atmosphere. I'm not sure that it's so good that I'd give it five stars were it in Boston, but it's easily one of the best meals I've had in central Massachusetts. I hope it stays open for a long time. read more

The staff is very nice but the food isn't my hamburger tasted like it had maple syrup on it and my wife's chicken avocado BLT had two pieces of chicken breast on it that was hard to eat as a sandwich, and the avocado was gross, this was like our 5th try here and honestly when I ate here last November I had the corned beef and I got pretty sick from it. I want to like this place as it's very close by but I have never had a good meal here the food quality isn't good. I hope they try and improve but it hasn't in awhile and that's too bad. This was the first time I have ever been to this restaurant, and definitely the last time. The decor is very nice and the prices are very reasonable, but the service was so horrible that we almost just walked out. First, the only drinks they list anywhere are the alcoholic beverages. Nothing listed anywhere else and had to ask when our server came over. They never let us know there was a specials menu until after we had already gotten our drinks and were about to order our food. The menu was a bit confusing, as the chicken dishes were listed to come with choice of potato and vegetable du jour, unless otherwise specified. The dishes both of us ordered were listed as coming with pasta, but our waitress told us they did come with the potato and veggie, so we ordered them. 10 minutes later she came back to inform my boyfriend that his did not include either. They would be happy to just leave the pasta out of his dish and charge him extra for the veggie. He decided that he would forgo the pasta, keep the sweet potato fries and get a side salad instead. The waitress brought his salad almost immediately. Five minutes into his salad she came back to inform me that my meal didn't include either as well. I opted out of the pasta and kept the cucumber salad on my order and asked her to bring it so I could have it with him as he ate his salad. Five minutes later a different server showed up to deliver the spinach and artichoke dip I didn't order, and belonged to another table. Five minutes after that my waitress decided to go see if they forgot my cucumber salad. FInally got it after he had waited to eat his salad. After all, we wanted to have dinner TOGETHER. (which didn't happen with ANY of the meal!!) About 2 minutes after she delivered my cucumber salad they showed up withour entrees AND lobster. So the rest of our food was to sit there and get cold while we finished our salads. There were only two of us at the table meant for four and there were so many plates we had nowhere to put anything! Again, mentioning our food getting cold. My salad was only a little bowl, so I moved on to my main course, which was Bourbon Chicken tips with sweet potato fries. The chicken was delicious, but the fries were lukewarm, at best. Then she delivered the fries that she forgot for my boyfriend. She put in the wrong item, bringing him regular instead of sweet potato fries. At that point I asked to speak to the manager. He came over within a minute or two and apologized, said he would take John's dinner back and have a new one refired so it was hot, and get me new fries to replace the cold ones. Three minutes after he left with the food, she came back and asked John if he wanted to order anything different, since he decided not to eat the chicken. He said he never decided that, it was just being refired. She disagreed and told us that the manager had said John didn't want his meal. So that ensued a bunch more confusion! FInally the manager took over as our server. So here we sit. John has no food, mine is going to sit and get cold waiting for his new meal to come out, and we're both just irritated at this point and ready to just leave. It was another 10 minutes before his food finally made it to the table. My nice hot fries were cold again by this point, and I just didn't even have it in me to complain anymore. Had I done so, I would've more than likely resorted to swearing like a sailor, just being fed up. He ordered the Chicken Florentine. It should actually be called Chicken Zinfandel, because that's all you could taste. The was little to no garlic in it and waaaay too much wine. And guess what? His fries were cold. The manager honestly tried to make us happy, but this was just way too far gone to have made it right. He expained that the waitress was new and was filling in for someone, not that that was an acceptable excuse, he said. They really need to train their help before they put them on the floor. There were only 14 tables in this area, and there were other servers working there. I have been to many restaurants that are much busier than this place and the service was impeccable, unlike Eighty Ates. Had I wanted to eat half cold, buffet style food, I would've gone to a buffet. There aren't many places to have dinner in the area at 8:30 p.m. on a Sunday. We were asked if we wanted to sit in the dining room or in the bar area. We told the waitress to put us wherever it was easier for her. She sat us in the empty dining area because it was quieter, which I though was very thoughtful of her. I had the clam chowder, and hubby had the French onion soup. Both were excellent. I had the roast beef sandwich on a pretzel roll, which sounded interesting. It was quite good. He had a huge burger with mushrooms, peppers, onions and cheese, and loved it. The fries that came with the burger were terrific, but I made the mistake of upgrading to onion rings. Every couple weeks she and I grab take-out from their dinner menu, and those shrimp appetizers with the coconut sauce (OMFG!) and I can't recall ever having been let down. It's been fine every time. My husband and I stopped in on a Thursday evening at around 5:15pm. It had a fair share of customers but definitely wasn't packed. We were seated and Heather, our server, came over fairly quickly to take our drink order while my husband perused the menu. I did not eat. Once she came for our order we then waited till 6:20...a whole hour before he got his cheeseburger!! We noticed people that came in after us by about 15 minutes, got their food before he did! Heather apologized and brought this to the chefs attention. She was very nice and very attentive. We have nothing bad to say about our server. She did her job well. However, the food being nothing special and the incredibly long wait was frustrating! Sorry, but we won't be back. Btw....this was the second time this has happened and I'm not going for a 3rd!!
