Mac & Cheese

So so so good! My third time coming and each time has been 10/10! The staff were again super friendly and attentive. The food was DELICIOUS and fresh. Very well seasoned. I'm so fussy about Mac n cheese and my daughter got the Mac and cheese and it was phenomenal! So creamy and gooey! Definitely can't wait to go back!

Samuel Slater's is an AMAZING restaurant - beautiful ambiance, excellent service, an exceptional menu and OUTSTANDING cuisine. You can tell the chef/chefs really care about the food they make - everything is so fresh, delicious and carefully prepared. We LOVE coming here - and are never disappointed!

Location & Atmosphere Nestled by the water, Samuel Slater's gives off cozy lodge vibes with a spacious interior that's both rustic and refined. The indoor space feels open and airy, with woodsy, natural tones that scream "weekend getaway." There's also a beautiful outdoor patio and a stadium setup--clearly made for live music nights and good vibes. Too bad it was rainy when we went, but you can tell it'd be a whole scene on a nice day. Food & Drinks We kicked things off with the mussels (yes, we had the muscles AND the mussels )--and they were solid. Flavorful garlic broth, meaty bites, and a soup base that had us nearly sipping from the bowl. Only thing missing? More bread! Don't tease us with great broth and not give enough to soak it up. For mains, I tried the Fun Guy Burger--a mushroom-forward twist on a classic. It was good, not mind-blowing, but satisfying for a casual bite. The menu leans heavy on American classics, so there's something for every picky eater in the group. ‍ Service & Hospitality Service was quick, efficient, and to-the-point--no fluff. Not super warm or chatty, but got the job done. Think of it like: "Hi, what can I get you?" instead of "Welcome! So glad you're here." Nothing bad, just not overly memorable either. Unique Selling Point The space itself is the star here. Between the large indoor dining room, waterfront views, and a full-on outdoor music setup, this place clearly knows how to host a good time. Come for a chill meal, then stay for the live music (when New England weather cooperates).

Made reservations (necessary) loud? Not quite yet. Short walk from parking lot. Casual dress, met the waitress. Bathroom is close by. Open space/floor plan. Menus given. Water carafe placed on table. Asked for recommendations. Decided on clam chowder (super hot) and the crispy chicken wraps. Main courses were rib eye and Tagliatelle Bolognese. Both cooked very nicely. Substituted the Brussels sprouts for asparagus. Truffle and Parmesan fries. Tasty, but a baked potato would have been fine too. No rush, waitress was super attentive. Dessert was to go and the bolognese was taken home as well. Deserves a second visit to try the other dinner choices. Super easy to go to. Nice views of the lake.

Our view from where we were seated. The beach was just below.

The food, the service, the atmosphere... ALL top notch! This was our first (and definitely not our LAST) time dining at Samuel Slater's at Indian Ranch. What an all around wonderful experience! We were seated right away- we chose outside seating because it was a beautiful day! I could sit there all day watching all of the activity on Lake Chaubunagungamaug! The food? I had the brisket (which came with coleslaw, pickles and cornbread- all homemade), which was the BEST brisket I've ever had; moist and flavorful. My husband had the 2 meat selection (brisket and pulled pork). We shared an Oreo cheesecake slice for desert. The service? Superb- attentive, friendly and helpful. You can't beat that! I HIGHLY recommend Samuel Slater's! Can't wait to go back!

Winter Cove salad with steak tips

First time checking out Samuel Slaters. Came on NYE for a show in their hall. Originally wanted to do their buffet and show combo but they stopped selling buffet tickets when we went to buy them and only were offering show tickets. They had plenty of reservations open in their regular dining room, so booked a table there instead. I'm kind of glad we were in this situation because the regular dining room and separate show tickets was a much better value... Starting with the cocktails, Mai Thais and smoked old fashioned, both were delicious and packed a punch! Mai Thais used Plantation Rum which is good stuff. Ordered perogies for appetizer which were advertised as locally made. The 4 came with a creamy mushroom/onion sauce, which is different for perogies but were yummy. French onion soup was perfect, loads of onions, croutons and well seasoned. For dinner, the chicken ceaser wrap was served with pulled chicken which was super tender and moist. The Shepards pie was made with BBQd brisket, Delicious! The winter harvest salad was ordered with steak tips cooked medium and the cook was perfect, right amount of pink (check out photos). The BBQ platter was massive, the meats and corn bread were great, however, I was told the potatoe salad was lacking seasoning and the homemade pickles were a little too vinegary. Waitress was super attentive and was honest about recommending various menu items. Even recommended avoiding 1 dish I was contemplating, really appreciated the honesty! Overall, we were all pleased with our dishes and would definitely come back! Don't let the restaurant's location fool you. It's located within a campground but the quality and service was 5 stars!

Great views of Webster Lake. Everything we ordered was tasty and in good portions. Nice tie in with the inventor, Samuel Slater.

It has a two start Yelp rating, but on this glorious, sunny, April day I was hungry and I cruised over to one of their docks and grabbed a table on their deck. They were playing some classic rock, at a reasonable volume level. At night, they can turn up the volume. My waitress quickly took my order, a Cheeseburger with the fixings on the side, and French Fries. They have a beautiful view of the lake, and offer both sun and shade from their tables. The deck offers only metal stools, sturdy yes, comfortable, not especially. A short ten minutes or so later, my Cheeseburger and Fries arrived. My initial reaction was that the burger looked good, thick, with two slices of American cheese, and not overcooked. The French Fries however, looked wet and soggy. Sure enough, I picked one up, and it was cool, soaked, and sad. Were the French Fries crying? I'm not sure, but eating them would make me cry. Conversely, the burger was great, hot, tasty and cooked nicely. My waitress was excellent, she stopped by took away the fries and removed them from the bill. She was friendly and prompt throughout my lunch. So, good service, good burger, great view and terrible fries. Overall three stars on this visit.

We went out back to get water view seats on their back porch since inside was so uninviting. After we sat down, we were engulfed by the stench of pot smoke pot emanating from a customer and her daughter. To be honest, I think it was the mother as she was the one that was loud, embarrassing and laughing like a drunk teenage girl. The menu offered only appetizer types of food, so we opted for nachos because they were "out" of our two other choices. The place looked rundown and dingy both inside and out and seemingly barely making it. Outside had not seen paint in years! I did not dare use the bathroom. Our nachos came out with hardly any cheese and what was there was not melted once you moved a chip. The chili on top of the nachos was just a tomato sauce with some beans in it. The waitress was nice so we just picked at our nachos barely touching them. I usually send gross food back but I just wanted to get away from the stench. This place is truly an embarrassment and needs a severe makover of both the building and the food. What a shame this waterfront property is such a dump with lousy food. I guess if you are only serving beer to bikers and crap food to stoners it found its niche.

The pickles were standard and the sauce was a bit sweet but ok. The wings were good but they charge for sauce which is disappointing but at least they were tasty. That's where the good review ends. Next up broccoli cheese soup. It was thin and curdled. Completely flavorless. Please don't bother I got a black and blue burger. It had dried apples and gorganzola. I asked for mid-well and this thing came out a black hockey puck. Totally in edible. The apple is breaded and fried and then a blue cheese sauce is on top which makes it completely soggy. Terrible. Husband got Cajun shrimp which was in a weird tomato sauce. The okra was so bad he spat it out. It could not even be chewed. Everything needed salt. Pass Diner 3 ordered a chicken sandwich with Nashville hot sauce. It tasted so bad he couldn't eat it. It also had cheese that was burnt under the grill. The fries were terrible. Maybe the grease needed to be changed? No thanks Diner 4 got the mushroom Swiss burger. The photo attached was his bun. He ordered it medium rare it was medium at best and was both dry and dripping with grease which is quite the feat. He choked down half but couldn't go on. Moving along The service was good but she definitely needed help. She was handling the bar and dining room herself so some things took a little time but she was kind and attentive. Having worked in restaurants my whole life I would have to say this place has potential but the cook defiantly needs some training on seasoning and attentiveness. The menu needs to be streamlined too. I would not go back and wouldn't tell anyone I knew to go. We've been home a couple hours and 3 out of 4 of us have stomachaches. There are better places.
