Took a pottery wheel class with Sarah today at the new second location in Carlsbad and had a blast! It was so much fun and Sarah really explained how to use the wheel in an easy to follow way for me as a novice. I was able to make my own unique piece and am looking forward to returning in a few weeks when its is ready to paint. I've been to the San Clemente studio to paint and now the new Carlsbad location and I love the vibe at both locations. The staff is so friendly and both locations are so cutely decorated. This place used to be so cute. I've gone here for years with my kids...even hosted a girl's painting party here once. However, the last few times we've been, it's been a let-down. Albeit pricing is up everywhere, but this is now too overpriced. (Ex: A very small ceramic piece can run you $40.) That, coupled with poor customer service, which is the most disappointing part, makes for a place I will unfortunatley not be returning. It has become too casual, even for a mom-and-pop place. The employees are unprofessional, sharing too much with the customers while we're painting, using profanity and loose-talk in front of kids. Sometimes they look like they just woke up from a nap, or other times it feels like we're in their home, bothering them. I can chalk some of it up to a casual, beach-culture vibe, but the last straw for me was tonight when I called to inquire about hosting a birthday party there, at my 7 year old's request. At first the girl working hung up on me. When I called back, she blamed it on a bad phone connection (which I apologized for, even though she hung up on me). Then she rushed me into trying to reserve something right away. When I said I was just gathering availability and information for now, she rudely said she "didn't have time to chat unless I was ready to book". I didn't have a chance to ask about specific questions (answers which aren't listed on the website). She was completely condescending and cavalier. It's unfortunate because I do like supporting small businesses, but the overpriced product and unprofessional customer service I've experienced in recent years makes for a really disappointing turn of events. read more

Such a great place! Great atmosphere and vibes! The two ladies (Sarah and Jaylene) are so nice, helpful, and hilarious! My girlfriend and I had a blast painting our ceramics here! The prices are great too, they don't charge you any extra fees for paint or anything; you only pay for your ceramic. When you're done, you come back in a few days and your ceramic is all done and ready to be taken home! We will definitely be back! Ok I am so fired up on this place! Still here with my 2 and 5 year old where Sarah the owner helped me make hand and feet impressions of them for Father's Day. My kids do NOT want to leave... they have been riding little tricycles around in the outside back area of this magical place and are playing peacefully totally content with the world. Sarah is fun and real and even got our crackers for the girls while we were making the arts. Will be back FOR SURE. Great find :) Also a great place to come back solo and just sit and paint some of the hundreds of pottery items you can paint here. Definitely recommend it! read more

Made a 'Daddy' mug at Christmas for a gift. The glaze didn't cover the bottom and there was a pretty big gap in it so I took it back to see if they could re-glaze and re-fire it so it was able to be used. The 'owner' was arrogant, condescending and not at all helpful - using a barking tone with a lot of eye-rolling and treating me like I was a moron with regards to the dangers of re-firing. I never lost my cool because at that point, I knew her intention would not be to help me, so I just shook my head to myself, said thanks and left. I spent a lot of money there at Christmas making presents - I'll never go here again. Her attitude was so unprofessional and unnecessarily unkind. This place is great! My boyfriend and I came here on a rainy Valentine's Day. The ladies who work here are the sweetest. They will explain to you how to use the paints and help you figure out your design. The prices are great as well. This is a great place for adults too! If you want to create a tile for one of the tile walls (often used for fundraisers, to support the DP historical society, etc.) this is the only place to go. It's like Color Me Mine but BETTER in every way! I've spent hours at a time in here. I love the new location as it's one of San Clemente's historic homes (I heard that somewhere... I don't actually know what a historic home is.) and it's super cozy. Pick out your ceramic and as many colors of paint as you want (Color Me Mine only let's you pick 5 or something). There's even a work-in-progress shelf if you don't finish on your first visit. You can bring and food and drinks in and stay as long as you like! The owner, Sarah, is super friendly to everyone and way laid back. She'll give suggestions to anyone with painter's-block and chats with her (many) regulars. There's quite a few pieces to choose from: mugs, serving plates, piggy banks, toothbrush holders, magnets, and chalkboards. You know, just to name a few! Once you're done with the pieces she fires them in the kiln in the garage and I think the longest I've ever waited to get it back is a week. Pretty speedy. It's a pretty happenin' spot on the weekends for parties (kids and adults). Also, Sarah has different clay classes she does, I think she usually has a monthly schedule. AND last I knew she was getting a pottery wheel. "Ghost" moment, anyone? read more

I have the privilege of being allowed to go on base to their pottery shop and have to pay next to nothing but I come here every Friday night to hang out with the owner Sarah and enjoy my painting time. She lets us bring in wine and sushi and we spend around 3 hours just talking and painting and enjoying our evenings. if you don't feel like going out to the bars, and want a quiet evening of fun, make this your evening out with the girls, you'll never regret it. The pieces are like $25 per mug but you can take as long as you'd like, use as much paint as you'd like and she'll fire it by Thursday usually. Sarah will also give you ideas if you're lost and has tons of works you can look at for inspiration. She also has some cool mineral effects type paints, stencils and such. read more

We've been going to Fired Up for years, and love everything about it! Sarah, the owner, is a fantastic gal. The selection of ceramics to paint is always wonderful, the cost is inclusive and so reasonable - the best part is that you can take as LONG as you like to paint your piece before she fires it for you, i.e. you can have her hold it and come back on another day (or several more days!) to finish up. My 13yo son has also taken a private pottery wheel lesson with Sarah and loved it. I also recently attended a "Girls Night Out" party here, where we brought our own snacks and drinks (wine was totally okay!) and we had the place to ourselves for the night. FUN! read more

This is my second time going to a birthday party here at fired up! Each time was a different but amazing experience! This time was my favorite. Each kid was able to paint a tile. Some painted cats, trees, butterflies, some used stencils or stamps. It's so amazing seeing each kid be as creative as they want! After they were done painting they all went outside to a huge beautiful backyard where the kids could play hide and seek or do other craft set up by the parents. Sarah the owner is the most friendly, kindest lady ever! Her staff was wonderful. I will be doing a party for my girls here I'm sure a few times in the near future! I'm astonished to see all the positive and complimentary reviews of this place. Went there last week with my 3-yr-old to paint a mug for her Grandma. First of, got yelled at for pouring too much paint on the paint tile. That might have been the case, but how the owner went about it was so uncalled for. She loudly reprimanded and scolded me in front of other customers for being wasteful and taking too much paint. I poured some of the paint back in the bottle. While my daughter and I were waiting for our mug to dry so we could get her handprint on it, my daughter was painting the table with a little bit of paint (the table has paint all over it). The owner runs to our table yelling "you are wasting my expensive paint, it's $20 per bottle!! I won't allow it!!" and literally snatches the paintbrush out of my daughter's hand and takes the paint dish away. When it was time to press my daughter's handprint on the mug, I dared to take very little paint as the owner's eyes were glued on me and how much paint I was pouring. Needless to say, the handprint turned out poor due to inadequate amount of paint. At this point I just wanted to finish the mug and get out of there as soon as possible. The entire experience was unpleasant and embarrassing. The worst customer service I have ever received during my four years in Southern California. Btw, have a few friends who have also visited Fired Up. Called them before writing this review and, sure enough, they have similar experiences. None of us will ever go back. read more

I asked Sarah if she could bisque fire a whole kiln full of my pottery (earthware & porcelian) and she told me she could. I asked how much for a whole kiln full and she said $40, $60 or maybe $100. It ended up being $220. When I dropped the items off I told her some of them were still wet so they would need to dry before firing. Unfortunately one of the pieces was not dry all the way and blew up in the kiln and destroyed or damaged 9 other pieces. Also 3 other pieces were damaged for unknown reasons. I have been making pottery for 4 years and have never had more than one piece at a time broken. She said the reason it blew up in the kiln was because it was too thick. It was not more than 3/8 inch thick anywhere on it. Sarah needs to learn her kiln firing craft better. Not even an apology or "I'm sorry this happened". Do not use her to fire your own pottery or you will be heartbroken like me. It was a sad sad day for me since I spent many hours working on these pieces. read more

This is a mellow little ceramics studio where we had impressions done of our son's hands and feet when he was an itty bitty. She is a master at getting those little feet to go where they need to go! My sister had a bday party here for her daughter back in March and it was really nice and everyone had tons of fun. This is an all-around great place, run by a lovely and caring person. A friend and I happened upon Fired Up on a rainy afternoon, and we were so pleasantly surprised. It's so much cheaper than Color Me Mine, and such better quality. The girls keep to themselves, but if you ask for help, they're quick with advice. It's all the paint you could possibly need, and all by yourself... and if you mess up or want to start over, they'll let you! Also, the quality is so much more than CMM. My girlfriends decided it would be fun to branch out of our typical birthday celebrations of wine tasting or spa day and get in touch with our creative side. We were going to go to Color Me Mine, but they did not allow us to bring in our own food and snacks. My daughter went to Fired up with my son and said it was a cute place so I recommended it to our group. It's an adorable San Clemente beach home converted into a business. The owner was great!
