Family owned Pretext: This is my only renovation I did at my house, so I have no other experience to compare when it comes with contractors. Eddy was the main person I was in contact with. He handled everything and answered all my questions. All the construction went seamless until the end. There was small hiccups/miscommunication at the tail end but was eventually cleared up and handled very well. I had a very strong idea what I wanted. I bought the mirrors, faucets, tiles, hooks, towel racks. Essentially all the aesthetic stuff. I relied on Eddy for all the supplemental items. 1. The only reason I didn't give a full 5 stars was cause there was some materials (I.e. piping) I didn't know what to buy. And I told them I was relying on their expertise. Long story short, I had to go back and forth to a store to get a part which ended up being wrong. I felt I was led astray. 2. Their painting job wasn't as careful. I have some spots on my cabinets and some spots on my black tile. Other than that, it was a pretty good experience. It's been 2 months and everything still works. Haha read more

Scheduled a 10:00 AM consult they were hour and a half late. So much for what the owners mission statement promises. This is how you try to get a job? I took the day off to do this. No call to say they were gonna be late. Called the office & they said "oh, what's his face is trying to call you, he's on his way." Then she recited off an incorrect number. Waited an hour, received a text, 20 more minutes, traffic. COVID lockdown rush hour traffic. Imagine if you hire them, your gonna have to be on their butt. Make sure you put a punctuality clause and penalty for delays. Poor time management. Don't care attitude. Consultant boasted about his reviews on yelp, yet the behavior don't match. Still have not received the quote. Read their bad review pretty consistent with what we experienced. They must report bad reviews to get them remove. I am pretty sure this review meets yelp policy terms. I wasted a vacation day because of them which basically meant their wasted appointment cost me a days pay. I redacted part of the phone number in pic so to ensure this review doesn't get delete. Update after my review I received a text. Not acceptable. Hopefully the owner takes charge of you after this. I'm giving Surplus Construction 5 stars for customer service and 4 stars for workmanship. We hired this company to do a full kitchen remodel, some repairs to our hallway bathroom and installation of new vinyl floors in our condo. Edgar was our PM and was a pleasure to work with from the very beginning. He was extremely professional and communicative. There were times when I felt like I was bombarding him questions (this was our first major home renovation), but he was always helpful and responded in a timely manner. The different crews that worked on our place were also professional. Since we live in a smaller space, we knew it would be a challenge to move some of our larger furniture around and out of the way so they could work on certain areas. We appreciated that all our personal belongings were kept intact and handled with care. The only reason I am deducting one star from an otherwise 5-star experience is some of the quality of the work. Specifically, there were a couple of spots on our walls where the texture seemed off. Also the bottom of our breakfast bar/countertop looked unfinished. You could just see a slab of wood underneath our white quartz countertop. The "finishing" crew helped fix this by filling up the little cracks underneath and applied a coat of white paint to the wood slab. Still, I think we will end up adding some vinyl to make it look more cohesive, which is a fairly easy fix. Overall we enjoyed working with Surplus Construction and Edgar. Our project was completed as scheduled, even as we were dealing with the Covid-19 quarantine. Our home now looks super modern (not to mention at a great price) I would gladly refer Surplus Construction to my friends and family! read more
