Today we toured the gorgeous J. Seward Johnson, Jr. art installation. We did not go to all the…read morestatues around Gainesville; instead our focus was on the statues on the Reitz Union North Lawn. The exhibition is a collaboration between UF and the Gainesville Community Redevelopment Agency. The project is part of UF's efforts to increase cultural offerings during the summer and encourage creative exchanges between the university and city What a fantastic way to introduce and encourage the arts around Gainesville. These sculptures are so amazing. My favorite is the "Unconditional Surrender". This sculpture is based on the famous kiss in Times Square on V-J Day. The sculpture is so life like right down to the seam on the nurse's pantyhose. How lovely to be able to walk right up to the art and touch it! Every detail is so life-like. Look into the eyes of Monet. Sit with the Land Lady and go over your lease. Sit with Summer thinking (minus the ice skate) and exchange notes from English Lit (but don't tease her about her '80s banana clip). Even though it was quite muggy today, it was nice to really have the installation almost to our selves this morning. There were other families out and about but we all had wonderful time viewing each of the sculptures on our own time without rushing from one to the other. I suggest that should you go, do it during the summer before the rush of the students comes in the Fall.

There prices have gone way up since the last time I used them. They have a two hour minimum, $400 for two movers. Luckily, I scheduled right before they increased their rates for this time of year to $600 for two hours and two movers. They did end up sending three movers without any extra charge. They were are to schedule quick service on a weekday and were right on time.
