Love it here! Been a costumer for over a decade! Want to recognize an employee name Christoper who does a great job at drive thru! Food here is excellent! Location is convenient and employees here are top notch! Thank You!

Hook & Ladder Sub - the classic!
Blake Z.

Firehouse subs is a sub chain that's been around for quite a while! In fact, they were actually founded here in Jacksonville. Looking to mix things up for lunch, I decided to drive over here to grab me a special sandwhich. Going in, there was plenty of seating available inside. I ordered my go to firehouse sandwhich - the hook and ladder - which I got medium sized! Moving on with my review, the sub was pretty good, but could use some tweaks. For starters, the sandwhich wasn't as crispy as I would've liked it, and lacked little bit of meat as some of my bites tasted like straight bread. However, the toppings were very fresh, meats (turkey and ham) had bold tasty flavor, and bread tasted baked in house! What I do love putting on the sandwiches here, is the Sorensen's Datil Pepper Hot Sauce. Has this smoky, sweet, and spicy zing that adds a nice flavor to each sandwhich! I usually love putting it on with the hook & ladder or steak & cheese sandwhich. Despite my critiques and complements, service was friendly. Overall, I did enjoy my sub today, and find that with a few tweaks, this firehouse subs location can be easily a 4/5!

Passing through on the way to Orlando. The staff was very friendly. Location is easy to get in and out with parking and a drive-thru. I ordered the medium steak and cheese combo. The sandwich was delicious. It had plenty of meat and cheese and was on fresh bread.

Fresh ingredients and friendly staff.

I got the hero sandwich very good made quickly with fresh ingredients. The staff was very helpful and friendly. I came in with my two small children and one of the staff came and helped me get to my table without being asked. I rarely see that kind of customer service

So this was my second time reading at firehouse, the first time was several years ago and I cannot say that I was overwhelmed with their food as I really don't recall what I ate our even if I truly enjoyed it. So with my recent body I would have to say that I was truly not impressed. I ordered the steak sub. The meat was so overcooked, and they cut it up so finely that it was like crumbs. So I am going to say this will be the last time I eat at firehouse subs.

New location, more crew on duty, but still way too slow. 5 min to get order taken, 19 min from order to delivery.

My go-to is the Hoss burger, because I love the onion rings and special sauce, but their steaks (ribeye and tenderloin) are also perfectly aged and fresh off the butcher block. This is a small deli with seating tucked away on a neighborhood street where you're guaranteed to be greeted with a friendly smile by someone willing to answer any questions you may have. It's an older building but they're serving up bistro quality food. The menu is written on the wall to the right of the register, but they also have a printout. If you're prone to decision overwhelm and don't want to order 14 things, you can also look at the menu on their website! If I lived in walking distance, I'd come here twice a week. They also sell beer, wine, salads, sandwiches, and chicken tenders and fried fish! Can you tell I'm obsessed with this place?!

I went to Pinegrove Deli with very little idea of what to expect and was happy with my choice. After intensely studying the menu I finally decided on the Ortega. I love chicken salad so jazz it up with some tabouli and put it in a pita and I'm sold! I also ordered a side of onion rings which were also good. There was a pretty long wait to order, I'm not sure if the kitchen was backed up or they were short staffed but it was drastic enough that some people left before ordering and regulars were mentioning the wait time was getting worse. I have nothing to compare it to but it was 12:30 on a Saturday so it might have also just been a rush.

My son and I have been trying restaurants in this area and this was next on our list. Store was very clean, as I said before service was outstanding. Here's a list of the food we tried: Drink stand - not many selections, but they do have Coke products. Sweet tea - they have not perfected the taste of Southern sweet tea, but it was fine French fries - crisp crunchy exterior soft, interior, really well done. . Egg salad sandwich - it was just an egg salad sandwich, no better no worse than others, just fine . European Gyro - this was a normally euro stuff with french fries, it was a cool look in the dish was good. Overall, I wanted to love this place, and it was fine. But that's all it was was fine, they played it safe, they didn't try to spice up their menu or give you a number of unique specials. They just serve decent food at what I thought was a high price. For instance, my egg salad sandwich, and I'm an egg salad, lover, Fair but it was $13 without many side drink or chips. Most places, including Tidbits, which is one of their competitors, is less than $5. But I have to say they five other restaurants in this strip center, including the powerhouse Mexican food at El Castillo, Donato's Pizza, Mad o' Seafood, a Latino restaurant and Açaí Bowls. So if you're going to compete with these other restaurants, I think you need to go above and beyond. Maybe highlight Middle Eastern dishes, maybe makes egg salad with some curry powder, and don't charge so much for just plain sandwiches. I don't have any qualms about going back, but I also don't have anything to draw me back. That special dish or that special thing. And that seem to be the theme with the other people that came in. This was a first time visit for a lot of people , and a regular crowd just wasn't there. Maybe that is telling.

I was hosting family for Memorial Day weekend and wanted it to be special. I asked for six filet mignon cuts around 8-10 ounces. The gentlemen assisting was super friendly and took the time to ensure each cut met the specifications. He asked if I would like the filets seasoned. I had one visitor allergic to garlic, so he worked on five and another gentleman separated the other and provided a special seasoning without garlic. They made sure the items were separated and wrapped without question. Fast forward, I placed these bad boys on the grill and took them off at a temp of 145 degrees. I allowed them to finish cooking on the plate and had perfect medium filets to serve the guests. My mother-in-law went on and on for days into weeks claiming it's the best steak she's ever had (and she is very bouchée). Thank you, New York Butcher Shoppe.... The place is very busy so expect a little delay. The day we went card machine was not working great so a little bit of a longer line. Plenty of seats inside and outside. Tons of goofy things on the walls to look at while you wait for your sub. It's fairly bright inside. Ok on to the food. I ordered the Shane it was fantastic. I didn't realize it was a hot sub but it was still great! My wife order the 904 and as she ate it she started to cry because of how good it was and the fact that we are moving away. We also order the fry/tater tot combo! So dam good! Ask for the fry sauce!!!!!!! Tons of drink options including beer!!!!! It was a first time visit for both of us. I told the young lady neither of us had been there before and she offered to run through the menu for us which was great. I loved that. She described "The Peruvian" as (her words) "meat heavy". I've heard amazing things in the past about the Peruvian sauce, so that is what I landed on and chose to have it on their onion roll. Hubby went with the "Angie's Philly". I want to preface this with my husband and I had complete opposite opinions and you're going to hear about both of them. For me: When I heard the words "meat heavy" I did expect a larger than normal amount of meat, and maybe thats on me, or a lost in translation example, because in my mind this is not "meat heavy". HOWEVER, before you start angry typing, I REALLY enjoyed my sandwich. It was absolutely delicious and at one point (which I will touch on further down) I looked at my husband and said "Yeah... this is so much better than Larry's". I even put a little extra Peruvian sauce on it while devouring it. The bread was toasted perfectly, had GREAT flavor. I could have easily had a second (or maybe double meat? ) Anyways, zero co.plaints except for the lost in translation expectation. I hope that makes sense. Now, for my husband, who is extremely difficult to please. At first, when our sandwiches were delivered to the table, he was given someone else's sandwich and he ended up having to send it back and wait on his, while I started on mine. Whatever, mistakes happen, shit happens, and we weren't in any kind of rush, so no biggie. When his sandwich arrived and he began to eat it, he was disappointed. He said it doesn't taste like they season the meat at all and it felt bland. He noted that the cheese was melted on top and could have used more cheese chopped and grilled in the meat along with more mayonnaise. He's picky. About halfway though, he said he'd give it a 3 out of 5. Then began to finish the second half and apparently bit into some areas that were burnt and overcooked and dropped it to a 2.5. He said it wasn't bad enough not to complain or send back but not good enough to write home about. So that's the take for today's visit. We would both (especially me) try them out again in the future, and I personally can see why they're so loved.
