    Philly cheesesteak
    Ashton F.

I tried Derita's Philly. I kept hearing about them. I liked that the buns had toasted sesame seeds on them. Overall, the sandwich was good, but I would rate it a four out of five.

Finally a good cheesesteak in Jax!! Unfortunately last time I had Deritas it was sloppy and literally dripping cheese. To the point where the bread was soggy. Ruined the whole first experience for me. This time they did an excellent job. Like how they mixed the cooper sharp and meat together instead of the cheese just laying on the top like how they would at jersey mikes. The cheesesteak had plenty of meat but not too heavy where you're not bloated afterwards. The fried onions were cut perfectly and the seeded bread was on point, not too chewy. I added mayo and banana peppers on the side. The banana peppers acidity makes it a perfect combo. The manager even came to the patio outside and asked how it everything was. Service was great and an overall great cheesesteak. Very good, maybe needed salt and pepper to add as a con? Can't give it a 9 yet because I haven't had a Philly from Philly yet to compare. I give it a solid 8.8/10

First time. Not any explanation from the guy at the Counter -- it was pretty obvious we'd never been there before as we're looking around. Waited for a Wednesday to ensure we got Cheesesteaks, as they got high marks. He didn't make any attempts to explain or introduce product - that said, he did explain the drinks in the case were Italian soda's ... got it. And cannoli were filled to order. I would say, positives ... roll was fresh & it was filled with meat; it was hot. Negatives, not a lot of flavor - salt & pepper needed, we got fried onions added (thank goodness!). Cannoli was very good. We passed on Cheese Wiz for sandwich & went with provolone - perhaps that would've provided more flavor? I don't know. Important to note! Especially if you have a SESAME SEED allergy or diet restriction -- ALL their buns have seeds as verified with worker/owner. Two tables for two on sidewalk. No additional seating. This is definitely a call ahead or take-away venue.

Look at the cold cuts in this sandwich!

Anything you order from them is amazing We love their chicken parmigiana hero. We also love their Philly cheese steak hero .The owners are the best . Friendly helpful and anything you order from them you will not be disappointed

Cheesesteak with fried onions, Cooper sharp AND cheese whiz, and long hots... I'll never get a cheesesteak any other way!

Unreal sandwiches! It's really hard to find a good chicken cutlet sandwich down here that's not a glorified chicken tender Only been here twice so far but both times have been outstanding. First time I got the chicken parm and this time I got the DDD (cutlet, eggplant, mozz, prosciutto, long hots, roasted reds and balsamic glaze) Staff is so nice , family owned I believe? Sandwiches come in 2 sizes (prices may seem steep BUT the half portion is like the size of my forearm AND the quality is there) Deff make the trip to try them out!!

my husband's Hot Italian extra Hot Italian (Whole)

I had insomnia the other night, so while browsing Yelp I found Derita's Italian Deli just up I95 at the next exit, & I took my husband there on his lunch break. We'd perused the menu beforehand, and since we had date night after work I suggested that we each get 18" hoagies, made on fresh bread that Stephanie and Joe bring in fresh from Philly twice a week! We'd have half for dinner, right?! What a bright, clean, well planned open kitchen - 2 large stations on either side, 2 chefs at work creating masterpieces. I opted for the DDD. Well worth the price considering I've already had two filling meals out of one half! My husband is a big man and only ate half of his hot Italian with spicy cold cuts, peppers and an extra dose of chili spread! The plan was to eat the other half for dinner but we were still satisfied and skipped dinner. While these hoagies fill you up, the sesame topped bread is light and fluffy but firm enough to hold the copious amounts of prime filling. You don't feel overly stuffed as long as you monitor how much you can eat in one sitting. I heated mine in the broiler and that toasted up the bread and heated the chicken and eggplant cutlets. Read the menu for full details. Such great flavors! Best hoagie I've ever had in my NY Italian life! They also have gourmet organic sodas, soda, water, chips, soups, etc. Fresh made cannolis & tiramisu made in-house. Go birds, & go Flyers! RIP Bernie Parent, my father-in-law's second cousin. A great experience, great family, and we are spreading the word. I hear the Cheesesteak is to die for! Note: There is a table outside but is a takeout place - we were eating at home anyway. Such an efficiently run, fun restaurant. Great service. See you soon!

    Caprese sandwich with prosciutto

While it's a bit of a drive for me, this is now hands-down my favorite sandwich shop. Whoever plucked the shop out of the streets of Philly and dropped it here in Northeast Florida is my hero. While it is just to take out shop currently, hopefully it will evolve into more in the future. For now I'm happy to take my sandwich and sit in the car and eat in heavenly bliss. On this trip, I tried out the Caprese and at the recommendation of a friend added the prosciutto. It was an absolute delight, everything freshly prepared and assembled a freshly fried chicken cutlet with freshly sliced prosciutto. The balsamic drizzle just sets it off completely in the most angelic way. While they were prepping my sandwich, I had a nice opportunity to chat with the staff. They were all so very kind and welcoming and inviting. I feel like I've known them forever instead of just having stumbled into their shop. While I can't get back there often because it is about 30 minutes from my home I will be back.

Is DeRita's spicy Italian the best Italian sub in Northeast Florida? Yes. Hot Soppressata, Hot Capocollo, Sharp Provolone, Hot Cherry Peppers, Lettuce, Tomato. Next visit I'm going to try the original add hot peppers. Take out only. Pretty nice people behind the counter. It's seriously dangerous that this spot is only five minutes away from my new spot. Check 'em out! You've got to follow their social media for the occasional specials they run. Seriously, this is the BEST sandwich joint in all of north Florida.

    Hot Italian (Whole)

This place is out of the way for me so I stopped there on my way to Daytona. If you're looking for a really good hero, I highly recommend this deli. The bread was some of the best I have ever had which made the rest of the sandwich even better. Great place!

    Old Italian
    David F.

Clean is not a word but a state, and this place is not just clean, but inviting and the family is definitely engaging. Ordered the Old Italian (whole) and it's just like home. Great Philly bread, fresh as well. The meats delivered the classic flavor with just a hint of heat. 137 miles round trip, will be back soon Eagles, Phillies, Flyers all represented.

Hot Italian - lots of meat!!

Arrival: There are parking lots nearby--expect to pay around $15-25. As we walked up, there was live jazz music playing in the courtyard, which set a really great vibe right away. Service: Our waiter was attentive and timely without being overbearing. Food: Everything was amazing. We started with the bread service--the truffle butter was definitely the highlight (we didn't care too much for the ricotta spread). FYI: the little cubes that look like white cheddar are *not* cheese...I learned that the hard way by biting into a square of butter. For dinner, I had the cacio e pepe and he ordered the 100 lasagna. Portions were a bit smaller than expected, but honestly fine after filling up on bread. For dessert, we shared an affogato--the espresso wasn't burnt (which is surprisingly rare), so that was a big win. Overall: After the Resy credit, parking ended up costing more than the meal, which is kind of wild. Only downside was that there are just two restrooms, and there was a line when we went. Great time overall--will definitely be back.

We started with the bread appetizer, which came with several types of fresh bread and an incredible lineup of spreads like whipped ricotta, truffle butter, regular butter, and honey. Every bread had its own distinct flavor and texture. Next up was the sausage appetizer featuring both a sweet sausage and a spicy sausage, all made in house. They were cooked perfectly and served in a flavorful sauce with peppers that tied everything together. The balance between the sweet and spicy was so good. For my entree, I ordered the lasagna, and it was pure comfort. It reminded me so much of the classic lasagna I grew up eating, layered with rich Bolognese and a creamy bechamel sauce that made it feel both nostalgic and elevated. My boyfriend went with the steak (I believe it's a New York strip) and swapped a few of the sides to his liking. The steak was absolutely cooked to perfection, a beautiful medium rare. I may or may not have stolen about four bites... and yes, it was worth it..... We were way too full for dessert, but we did enjoy a bottle of wine with dinner which made the whole experience feel like the perfect date night. The service was fantastic, the food was memorable, and it's definitely a place we'll be coming back to for many more dates!

The cooked penne was sitting on the counter uncovered, just vibing at room temperature like it had officially given up. The sauce? The Chicken Marsala arrived undefeated in battle against any form of tenderizing. This chicken was not pounded thin -- it clearly lifts weights. I needed a steak knife, determination, and possibly a waiver to cut through it. We shared one entrée and a bottle of wine that tasted like grapes filed a formal complaint, and somehow the bill still hit $65. I checked twice to make sure we hadn't accidentally invested in the business. And just when you think the experience is complete, surprise! There's a debit card fee. Don't worry though -- the owner's son (also waiter, host, busboy, and possibly assistant regional manager) will loudly explain it from across the restaurant so the entire dining room can stay informed.

The service was pretty good, I can admit, however even that could've been better. We got started with our evening with a bottle of wine which was reasonably priced. The house arancini was chicken stuffed, which we were only told about after we ordered the dish. Sadly, the chicken pieces were large and there was just not enough cheese to really make this dish work - nor enough sauce. I even got a piece of bone in my arancini, which just ruined my appetite. We then had decided on the chicken parm for the main course (which later we realized was rather similar to the arancini). The first chicken parm piece that was got was rather large in size, however as we cut into the dish we noticed that half of the meat was still pink and cold to the touch. We showed our waiter, and instead of treating us with some empathy, we were told that "well its not our fault, but I've been trying to tell the guys in the back to pound the meat before cooking it." We were given another piece of chicken, and it was only slightly better than the first piece, but we ate a few bites and called it an evening. It's too bad, I'd be willing to try this place out for other dishes but I don't know if I'll choose this place again, knowing there are other options nearby. The best part of the evening was the ambiance and the wine, so maybe a happy hour in the future is in order.
