After seeing several posts of @ch3fjames, we finally took the plunge and visited Derita Italian Deli on a Friday afternoon as they only serve the Cheesesteak on certain days and thankfully, Friday is one of them. It definitely lived up to our expectations! The beef was juicy, the portions were huge, and the bread was soft! It was delicious! We also tried the DDD aka Derita Deli Deluxe which is one of their Chicken Cutlet Sandwiches. It includes eggplant, prosciutto de Parma, fresh mozzarella, roasted red peppers, broccoli rabe, long hot peppers, and balsamic glaze. Phew! Tons of ingredients, I liked it but it lacks seasoning, mainly salt, lol. Overall, we enjoyed both sandwiches and we can't wait to go back and try the other items on their menu. read more

I had the DDD sandwich, and it was absolutely the best sandwich I've had since moving here from New Jersey eight years ago. I just happened to be in the area, decided to stop in, and I'm so glad I did. My order was ready exactly when promised, and from the first bite, it exceeded every expectation. The combination of the crispy chicken cutlet, perfectly cooked eggplant, fresh mozzarella, and broccoli rabe came together in the ultimate flavor combination. Damn. That's a pretty great cheesesteak. Reminds me of when I used to live in New Jersey and drive over the Ben Franklin bridge just to get something like this. Get it with the sharp cheddar and fried onions. You will not go wrong. The bread is soft with sesame seeds and the cheesesteak is smooth with flavor with a perfect array of cheese in layers. Makes my mouth water just thinking about it. Unfortunately only available on Mondays and Fridays so I skipped work just for this. Also got the Chicken Cutlet Caesar wrap which was also fully loaded and flavorful. Glad to know that if I come on a random day, all of their subs are phenomenal. PLEASE HAVE CHEESESTEAKS EVERYDAY. What a great discovery after four years of living in Florida: a place to get s proper Italian-American grinder/hero/sub/hoagie. Derita is a small family-run place that serves uo thr best chicken cutlets in North Florida. My chicken parm would be outstanding in New York, but here in North Florida it is nothing short of incredible. Perfectly seasond cutlets, pounded thin and perfectly cooked, are blanketed with a fresh marinara and melted mozzarella. The bread is a fresh seeded roll shipped daily from a Philly bakery amd provided a solid bed for the succulent cutlets and saucy cheese. A magnificent sando! The owners are super nice people from South Philly who take great pride in their food. My only complaint is a decor dominated by Eagles, Phillies, and Flyers murals which nearly affected my appetite as a native New Englander. But for a sandwich this good and people this nice, I can deal with the Eagles banners! read more

We did not realize it's take out only Inside, 2 small tables out front but that was fine we squeezed in. The girl at the front counter was very sweet and patient taking our order and we ordered a lot to share. Lg Classic Italian- good not much to say, it was good not my favorite I've ever had, but solid Lg Cutlet Parm- omg delicious! Thin chicken cutlets smothered with sauce and mozzarella cheese, delicious! Even better the next day toasted in the air fryer! Horrible time there. I looked up best cheesesteak near me and they came up. so I drove 45 min to get treated poorly by the employees and not be able to get one because they only have it certain days a week and this place is supposedly known for their cheesesteaks.I would not recommend this place. and it does not say on Google that they only have their biggest item certain days a week. read more

First time. Not any explanation from the guy at the Counter -- it was pretty obvious we'd never been there before as we're looking around. Waited for a Wednesday to ensure we got Cheesesteaks, as they got high marks. He didn't make any attempts to explain or introduce product - that said, he did explain the drinks in the case were Italian soda's ... got it. And cannoli were filled to order. I would say, positives ... roll was fresh & it was filled with meat; it was hot. Negatives, not a lot of flavor - salt & pepper needed, we got fried onions added (thank goodness!). Cannoli was very good. We passed on Cheese Wiz for sandwich & went with provolone - perhaps that would've provided more flavor? I don't know. Important to note! Especially if you have a SESAME SEED allergy or diet restriction -- ALL their buns have seeds as verified with worker/owner. Two tables for two on sidewalk. No additional seating. I had insomnia the other night, so while browsing Yelp I found Derita's Italian Deli just up I95 at the next exit, & I took my husband there on his lunch break. We'd perused the menu beforehand, and since we had date night after work I suggested that we each get 18" hoagies, made on fresh bread that Stephanie and Joe bring in fresh from Philly twice a week! We'd have half for dinner, right?! What a bright, clean, well planned open kitchen - 2 large stations on either side, 2 chefs at work creating masterpieces. I opted for the DDD. Well worth the price considering I've already had two filling meals out of one half! My husband is a big man and only ate half of his hot Italian with spicy cold cuts, peppers and an extra dose of chili spread! The plan was to eat the other half for dinner but we were still satisfied and skipped dinner. While these hoagies fill you up, the sesame topped bread is light and fluffy but firm enough to hold the copious amounts of prime filling. You don't feel overly stuffed as long as you monitor how much you can eat in one sitting. I heated mine in the broiler and that toasted up the bread and heated the chicken and eggplant cutlets. Read the menu for full details. Such great flavors! Best hoagie I've ever had in my NY Italian life! They also have gourmet organic sodas, soda, water, chips, soups, etc. Fresh made cannolis & tiramisu made in-house. Go birds, & go Flyers! RIP Bernie Parent, my father-in-law's second cousin. This was our first time here and will be our last. We were so excited to try this place since the ratings were so high. We got 2 sandwiches and we didn't like any of them. I got the Italian tuna sub. The tuna was so dry that I couldn't swallow after a few bites. There were barely any vegetables inside that made the sandwich even dryer. My daughter got the classic Italian and the meats inside were so salty she couldn't even finish 1/2 of it. I'm giving 3 stars only because the services were great. read more

While it's a bit of a drive for me, this is now hands-down my favorite sandwich shop. Whoever plucked the shop out of the streets of Philly and dropped it here in Northeast Florida is my hero. While it is just to take out shop currently, hopefully it will evolve into more in the future. For now I'm happy to take my sandwich and sit in the car and eat in heavenly bliss. On this trip, I tried out the Caprese and at the recommendation of a friend added the prosciutto. It was an absolute delight, everything freshly prepared and assembled a freshly fried chicken cutlet with freshly sliced prosciutto. The balsamic drizzle just sets it off completely in the most angelic way. While they were prepping my sandwich, I had a nice opportunity to chat with the staff. They were all so very kind and welcoming and inviting. I feel like I've known them forever instead of just having stumbled into their shop. Finally a good cheesesteak in Jax!! Unfortunately last time I had Deritas it was sloppy and literally dripping cheese. To the point where the bread was soggy. Ruined the whole first experience for me. This time they did an excellent job. Like how they mixed the cooper sharp and meat together instead of the cheese just laying on the top like how they would at jersey mikes. The cheesesteak had plenty of meat but not too heavy where you're not bloated afterwards. The fried onions were cut perfectly and the seeded bread was on point, not too chewy. I added mayo and banana peppers on the side. The banana peppers acidity makes it a perfect combo. The manager even came to the patio outside and asked how it everything was. Service was great and an overall great cheesesteak. Very good, maybe needed salt and pepper to add as a con? Can't give it a 9 yet because I haven't had a Philly from Philly yet to compare. I've heard whispers of Derita Italian Deli for a while and this week on lunch break, I finally made the pilgrimage. I ordered online, crossed my fingers they'd nail my (slightly picky) alterations, then zoomed in and out like a sandwich ninja. Not only was it ready and waiting, but they double-checked everything with the calm, competent energy of people who take sandwiches(and customer service) seriously. The turkey was fresh and flavorful. And the bread was crusty in that perfect Italian way, but still soft enough to bite through easily. I also impulse-bought an espresso soda because it sounded adventurous. Do I regret it? Not entirely. Would I buy it again? Probanly not. But that's on me, not Derita. I just returned from DeRita's. We purchase sandwiches all the time and we love the food. While paying, I noticed the total was $ 29.80 and when i went to pay it was about $35. I asked the cashier why the price changed and she said that the price was with the tip included. Had I not noticed, there would have been no indication at all that I was paying $6 more for my food. I'm happy to give a tip, but silly me, I also like to decide the amount and expect that when I'm told a price for something that is in fact what I am expected to pay for it. I don't recall this happening in the past. Again the food is great and the folks there are very nice but I'm not comfortable with this practice at all. I guess the customer is responsible for telling the cashier to not include the tip that DeRita's includes with the sales price. DeRita's should reconsider this or risk losing business. read more

We have been wanting to try Deritas for a while when we finally had a chance. This is more typical of a northern deli where you walk in and order your sandwich. There are no seats, no tables. This is for to go. No issues, that was my expectation as we did order online. Parking can be a little challenging at this strip mall. Plenty if you don't mind a short walk from the side lot. I walked up, greeted and was handed my order. No issues. Sub prices are expensive, but doing a true comparison you get a lot for the price. One sub was more than big enough for my wife and I. We were barely able to eat a half for lunch. The subs were pretty tasty. Lots of meat. read more

Also great news they do 2 specials: On Sunday during football season they do Roast Pork Hoagies. The best you will find outside of Philly and on Wednesday they do Cheesesteaks which are also great. This sub shop recently opened in a strip shop along 210. I had seen good reviews for it so I figured I would give it a try today. It is strictly a takeout place. Two people were there when I arrived and a few more came in after me. Everything seems to be sliced and cooked to order, so it took a little wait. The subs are good, though, and plentiful. Today was our first visit. What a friendly place. Fast service, and our subs were fantastic. The meat was sliced paper thin and plentiful. I usually order the biggest subs at other places because they tend to be skimpy, but not here. I could only eat half of the "Old Italian ". My wife ordered the half Turkey Paisano, and couldn't finish it. The shop is clean, and the food is prepared right in front of you instead of behind a wall. We are already planning our next visit.
