Twenty three minutes is not fast food, and today proved that definitively. I placed my order on the…read moreapp at 12:52pm, choosing McDonald's because Mrs. K. said she wanted a fish sandwich. From there, I walked inside a few minutes later, and immediately noticed that while the parking lot was tidy, the dining room was not. Two of the tables had some food remaining, there was some trash on the floor, two of the kiosk screens were down and the cramped layout of the dining area made the mess feel even more obvious, which set the tone before I even had a chance to wait. There was one person already standing in the lobby when I arrived waiting for their food, then another, then another, and at one point a woman who had ordered nothing more than a single burger simply gave up and left. My own wait stretched to twenty three minutes, twenty three long minutes of watching the crew socialize instead of work, listening to four different alarms chirping nonstop behind the counter, and even watching a former employee slip behind the counter to unlock the bathroom for a friend, which did not inspire confidence. Eventually my bag was handed over and I headed out to see eight cars queued at the drive through that were not there before. In the bag, everything was accounted for, including napkins. My McChicken was hot and tasted right. The Filet-O-Fish was assembled properly and Mrs. K. said it was good. The only real flaw in the food itself was the fries, which were cold and very underdone. Overall, this was a negative experience from start to finish, and I would suggest continuing down the highway to another McDonald's where the basics of speed and cleanliness might be taken more seriously. It doesn't matter if you uber eats it or go to the drive thru. Be sure to double check your items but I'm 100% certain the order WILL BE WRONG! Fire the whole staff and start over.

But since we were hungry but didn't want fast food and were going to eat somewhere else for dinner we decided to come here for a "snack" Don't know how fried chicken, gravy and mac & cheese can be called a snack but we did out best not to eat until we fell out...it was hard holding back. Our waitress was super friendly and awesome. The restroom was older but very clean. I can tell the place has been there for quite some time because the decor reminds me of something out of Columbo..but I like 70's decor so it's not a criticism... We left with full bellies, swimming in sweet tea and mac & cheese...

And when drinking the water, it tasted like chlorine. And to be clear, I was here on a field trip so we only had the option of the buffet. I am not sure how things are for the actual food outside of the gloop and gleep that is served in the buffet. Speaking of the food, it was completely horrible. I grabbed a chicken tender, some corn bread, and made a salad for my main course. NONE OF IT WAS ACCEPTABLE! THERE WAS PINK AND PURPLE INSIDE OF THE CHICKEN, THE CORNBREAD WAS LUMP, AND THE SALAD GREENS WERE CHEWY! None of the things that I ordered were satisfactory in the slightest. I also tried some things for dessert, and they were not acceptable either. The chocolate pudding made my mouth feel numb, (it didn't just do that to me, it did that to my friends as well) and the jello that I had gotten tasted like cough syrup. Also I might add, the ambience is also terrible. For some reason they have the theming of a zoo. And it is just really unpleasant to look at. It is so, so red. Shoneys, either do better or completely shut down because your restaurant is horrid.

For what it is-- it is really scrumptious. I had a few tacos, a ceviche tostada and a beer. BIG lunch-- I took one taco home. All the items were really chock-ful of meat. The carnitas on that taco was way too much to be able to pick up the taco with it all inside. They had a good mix of onions and cilantro on them, although I'd have preferred to add my own (I LOVE cilantro). I wish it was nearer; I'd go back often.

The salsa and chips--- First bite tasted like tomato paste to me, very tangy and had a kick of spice. Chips were warm. No Guacamole!!!! What Mexican place has no guac? Chimichanga de pollo-- Shredded chicken with some onions, peppers and covered in cheese sauce. Fajitas mixta-- Steak was a little tough and chicken was very thin slices. Lacked some spices. More onions, green peppers and tomatoes than meat. It wasn't bad, but for our taste we have had better. The whole meal lacked spices. Would we recommend? Yes, give it a try, you might like it. Salsa is good but it's too tomato pastey for us.
