Firehouse is my fav sub shop. Always get the Steak & Cheese and add their house-made datil pepper sauce. It's my go-to and oh so good. I've tried a couple of others in the past, but not as good as the S&C. Recommend the jalapeño kettle chips if you like a little heat with your sub. This location is same layout as others I've been to. Food made fresh and delivered to table fast. Only real negative was the table hadn't been cleaned off. Drink cups with the combo were slightly smaller than I got at my local Firehouse in GA. Not sure if they changed sizes recently or it's just a CHL area thing. Overall 4.5 stars. read more

Three young ladies working Friday night and was waiting for my sub for 25 minutes in store because they couldn't stop playing, talking and dancing around while 10 people in line were waiting on our food. And when I finally said something after about 15 minutes watching them just stand there and talk and completely forget they are at work. Quite literally the worst Firehouse I have ever been to. On multiple occasions, we have ordered subs online and had to wait 20 plus minutes after the promised pick up time. We have had multiple errors in the food we ordered, most recently tonight, after waiting for 30 minutes, the Hook and Ladder salad we ordered had no meat on it, only lettuce and cheese. The staff is consistently slow and inaccurate and we have wasted money with no resolution when the orders have been wrong, as nobody ever gets back to us. Disappointing is an understatement. Firehouse subs is an underrated spot in my opinion. They consistently produce amazing quality subs with awesome flavor. There are many locations so you don't have to search hard to find one. The staff always makes sure to welcome you when you walk in and they don't have you waiting forever for your food. The locations have always been clean as well which says a lot about the care they take in running the business. One great thing I recently learned is that they will do a free sub deal daily. Depending on the name or what letter it starts with, you are eligible for a free sub with any purchase. It can really brighten your day to walk in and get great food just because your name happened to start with the correct letter. Firehouse is awesome. read more

Not a one star. Negative star. I ordered an Italian large sub for lunch and when I was half way munching through my first half of the sub I felt like I was pulling something out of the sub so I looked to see what it was... it ended up being a long strand of hair which I was pulling out with my mouth. My hair is dark brown/black and the hair that I found was close to blonde or darker blonde. I should have been grossed out by then and not have had the faith that the other half of the sub wouldn't have anymore hair and simply just dumped out the whole thing. I was very tired from working (food and beverage, which I had my hair tied up with a hat on)all day came home famished. I did not want to cook and decided to give it another shot on the rest of the sub I had leftover. Guess what. I'm pulling out even a longer piece of hair(the same color)when I'm half way through the end of the sub. Wow. I have absolutely no words. Two long strands of hair in one sub?!?! Especially in times like this when the whole entire world is talking about cleanliness and sanitization ESPECIALLY with restaurant businesses... this is just sad and beyond disgusting. I love this firehouse. We order from here Atleast once a week. We have a newborn so we always do the online pick up option. I submitted my order, was given a time of 8:30. I show up at 8:33 and I'm told it will be 5-10 more minutes. Normally I would not care I get it I've worked restaurants my whole life. BUT this restaurant was EMPTY. not a single soul except me and the 2 girls working. Who informed me they didn't see the order because they were trying to clean to leave. This bothers me. I understand you want to leave, but don't neglect orders just to try to leave faster? It's firehouse! Always love the brisket sandwich! I go through withdrawals if I don't get this at least every other week, more if possible ;) my boyfriend loves his steak and cheese. This is the first firehouse that wasn't the usual clean I've come to expect and love about them. Had to clean off my own table from crumbs and stuff. Very unusual to have that happen. But it was lunch hour, so I'll give them a little slack. But that's why only 4 stars. They have shrunk the drink size in the combo. It's the first one I've been to in Charleston so maybe that's how it's been here, not sure. Moved from another state and they always had huge drinks with the combo. The crew is what you expect at a firehouse, kind, easy going and fun. They greet you and get your food pretty quick. Ehh, it's no better than Quizno's or Subway. I had an Italian, and honestly, it had no taste. The only good part about the experience was the Coke machine (designed by Pininfarina - think Ferrari) that allows you to mix basically any Coke product with a different flavor, so it's easy to make Cherry Vanilla Coke Zero, or whatever the heck else you care to have. They're also a shade more expensive than most sub shops, but that's probably because most (all?) of their subs are hot, rather than cold. I'll stick myself across the street at Jersey Mike's, though. I'm grateful that I visited this place on a friend's recommendation before ever hearing their radio commercials on 104.5. Seriously, the commercials are stupid and it bothers me to think about the fact that a few cents of every dollar I spend there go on to pay for the ads that make me turn to a different station. With that said, I love the subs. The bread is excellent, the meat and cheeses are steamed (read: moist), and the service is fast and friendly. Although, come to think of it, the "friendly" service is a bit overdone at times. Maybe I'm getting old and crotchety but I don't like that 5 employees seem to be racing to say "welcome to Firehouse!" the instant I walk in the door. I hope it says something about the quality of food that so much of what they do (apart from making my sandwich) annoys me but they still manage to land 4 stars. I'll take their sandwiches any day over Subway or Quizno's (both of which I do enjoy, but not nearly as much). The meat was good, but way to expensive for the size, there was nothing on my sandwich but meat mustard and cheese, even though I asked for Lettuce, tomato, mayo. For my husband and myself it was 22 dollars and we each had a 8 inch with drink and a chip, 15 okay, but 22 and my sandwich had 3 ingredients. I hope all that extra goes to a good cause. After we left my husband ate a box of cheese-its. Best part about this store was the nice man outside holding a sign in the humidity, and doing it with a smile. read more

Wow, I think this is the best place for subs. Starting with the excitement and rush to greet you when you walk in, Hats for the children. The place is just charged with excitement. No sad faces or arguments, they are there to make your experience great. And the food, I have not had a sub anywhere that taste as good as at the Firehouse. i think the only downside to the Firehouse is once you taste their subs, you know they are the best, and you add to that the excitement, I think your hooked to going there over, and over again. Its obvious the employees are in a rush the way they hash everything together and that where the quality goes right out the door. It's in the strip mall behind Smokey Bones, between the mattress place and a computer store. I'm in the restaurant on a fairly regular basis as it's convieniant for lunch. The prices are competative, especially if you consider the quality of the meats they use. Mmmm....meat! They don't use the chopped, pressed and formed processed meat products, they go whole hog, or cow, as the case may be. I recommend the medium meatball, with extra cheese. 8 inches of artery clogging love. Make it a combo to add a medium drink and a small bag of chips for under 8 bucks. Their New York steamer is also very good, with less cholesterol. Actually, their subs seem to be one of the better fast food choices, health wise. They can get quite busy during lunch so parking gets crowded and you might have to wait in line, but they seem to be able to pull people out of thin air and manage to keep the line moving on most days. The other week I ran in without preordering, and the line was out the door. I was pleasantly surprised to be in and out of there in less than ten minutes with a freshly made sub, melted cheese, toasted roll and everything. Yum!
