Before I start, the 1 star is for the service I received ... the food itself is good and well priced. This is regarding the restaurant at 8970 University Blvd in North Charleston, SC 29406. I have been a frequent customer since this Cook-Out opened. Today I went to get a small lunch of 3 chicken tenders and BBQ sauce. I placed my order, handed my card to the cashier and within a minute, my card and box of tenders was thrust out to me and the guy rapidly said, "have a great night" and closed the window. I shrugged and set the box on the seat beside me and put my card back in my wallet. I checked the box to make sure that I got the 3 pieces I had asked for since it seemed to get done pretty quick (kudos btw). I saw that the BBQ sauce wasn't in the box. I reached out and rapped on the window. Inside the crew was laughing about something and carrying on, so I knocked louder in case I wasn't heard. That is when the African American with red braids flung open the window and yelled "Oh No!! Not today! Don't be pounding on the window!" I told him that I didn't get any sauce. As he reached down, got the sauce and handed it to me, he went apoplectic, yelling that he "didn't care! there was no reason to be pounding on the window!" He caused such a scene that heads were popping into view to see who he was yelling at. I tried to explain that I didn't think he heard me, but he kept on going with his over-the-top indignation that I had almost shattered the glass rant, so I said "Whatever" and drove off. Fortunately, I had work waiting for me when I got back to work, so I had time to cool off. That said... I have NEVER been yelled at by ANYONE working at the register of ANY restaurant I have EVER visited before in my 59 yrs. This employee should be reprimanded at the least and fired at most. I went inside to place my order. It was an off time, about 2:30 so I was the only one inside. I studied the menu for a few minutes before deciding. There were only 2 staff that I could see and both were busy with the drive thru. While waiting I noticed how dirty the place was. The register was crusted in gunk on front and back. The floor in the back was shining with grease. The counter was dirty. I was about to leave when one of the girls came to get my order. Minimal communication at best. I will say at least the tables were all clean. When ready they yelled out my sandwich order. The condiments, utensils and straws were well stocked and organized in little drawers, but the drawers were messy to touch. Overall I didn't enjoy my meal at all. Won't be going back. read more

Just visited this establishment and was very unhappy with the service. First off the cashier had a very bad attitude. When stepped to the counter, she never said hello, welcome to Cook Out or anything. So I started the order by stating what I wanted. Upon completion of the order she just sit it on the counter without putting in a bag nor did she offer a bag. When I asked for a bag ahead of time got an attitude about it. She then gave me the bag and I proceeded to put my order in the bag. After putting my in the bag, I asked if I could get some ketchup and she pointed and stated over there. I would like to mention that this was my first trip inside this restaurant and my last. Visited the North Charleston, Sc Hwy 78 location. Went through Drive thru #1 at 2:07pm 10/31. Order #1094 I ordered a dbl cheeseburger meal with "Only extra onions and extra pickles, nothing else" and the 2 sides were "cheddar bites and cajun fries". I got an everything dbl cheese with the extras on it, and cajun fries and feg. Fries. You DT operator didn't listen to me all so we had to wait full time for the bites, and she showed clearly that she was not happy with us for having the sides corrected. We didn't find out about the burger until we got home and my daughter is allergic to mustard so all she could eat were the sides. 10 minutes to take my order when there is no one in front of me is almost as insane as me waiting 10 minutes. Then... To not even take my order because you can only deal with one single order at a time is amazing. Ordered a jr burger cheddar style for my wife. Received a plane cheeseburger. Ordered a regular burger with cheese catchup, mustard, pickle, grilled onions and a bottle of water to drink. When we went to pay, I was handed a glass of ice water, not a bottle of water. When we got home, my wife had only a plain cheeseburger, I had no cheese on mine and raw onion. Booth seating and small, individual tables are available. South Carolina specific decor hangs from the walls. I found fault with how one of the workers half cleaned our booth. My dad had to point out where he missed food on the seat. Another fault was on the fact I did not not see neither a daily cleaning schedule nor a reminder notice for workers to clean their hands. These minor flaws make the overall, clean restaurant appearance a bit dull. STAFF: Service was good. The female cashier was pleasant and patient with taking our order. He make worker that cleaned our table seemed a bit reluctant about cleaning. FOOD: Receiving our order seemed to take longer than expected. Compared to other Cook-Outs, food comes fast. It took about 8-10mins to get our food. I got the Cookout tray: burger w/lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese. Sides were hushpuppies and coleslaw. Unfortunately, I got everything but the burger right. When i opened it up ...it was only CHICKEN spots.... took back to counter and girl said "OH that's the way we make it" . It looked like someone took SCRAPINGS from the cutting board and threw them in....No solid pieces..and almost no scrapings...Well the $1.50 should have been my first clue to stay clear. Ok..so my meal was not the best. Now my wife had a chili hot dog on a BUN that was old and CRUMBLING....(not close to fresh) NOW The icing on the cake.......... (my wife will kill me for this but i will say it anyway) the music in a restaurant is not determined by the patrons i understand this , but their music was ALL CHURCH and Jesus this and that.... Cook Out was a very good drive-through restaurant I don't know about the inside of the place. But the food has gotten awful where if you ordered double burgers, they say: we don't have double burgers. Yet it says on the big outdoor menu they do have double burgers and if you order a regular burger, you're getting half a burger as if it's cut in half it's very disappointing and it looks so sloppy and disgusting. Dripping gooey sauces, though the wrapping it's awful in a pinch it's not bad tasting but people today don't wash their hands and they handle money and they handle your food which is a filthy habit. So get it together and cook out in the Charleston areas and north Charleston areas. Hire people who have food experience that is no less put together then you would eat yourself. it's very disappointing on the hours that they have like they'll say they're open until 3:00 AM. Then you're waiting in line and oh no there's nobody there. People are pulling off because they decided to close at 1 AM or midnight one night. I think I went through a 10 PM and they were closed. I guess it's because there's no workers. I know there is a crisis with the economy, but they have to do better,the owners, the franchise itself. be innovative by getting more employees that are clean and that they are understood that their paycheck is because the customer are paying makes your paycheck. I'm so over these fast food places that could care less about cleanliness or Covid guidelines. No mask, no gloves and poor safety practices. I witness this young male wipe things with his bare hands while making a shake. He was even drinking something while attempting to complete a shake for a customer. I was baffled but even floored when I realized this shake was for my order. I immediately canceled and asked for a refund. The young lady was evidently appalled and then made a spectacle of the entire situation by notifying two other employees, one of which was the guilty party. At this point they start to scoff and make eyes at me through the drive-thru window.
