Great showroom, friendly staff, great selections. Unfortunately they really only want to do whole fireplace services, which I didn't need. There were a lot of mandated add-ons like chimney cleaning and their generic log grate that I was told I had to use or else it would void their warranty. We would have loved to have bought a gas log setup from them but their inflexible rules didn't match our needs (our chimney had already been serviced, it has a custom grate). If you need the whole shebang done to your chimney, I'm sure they're a great solution. read more

In fact the same model number is the same one from Skytech and I stand by the review. In fact you made me sign off on the remote instead of supporting what I wanted. Terrible front office but installer/repairs very good and professional Early December asked for them to come look. Was told if I want my fireplace looked at I should call them in September (then I heard this 3 or 4 more times in the next two months). Two weeks til they came out, said I needed a new pilot assembly and that it takes 3 weeks to get it! Well ok I'm already $249 into this company so I decided to let them order it. 3 weeks later it turns out that they had ordered the wrong part or stapled my paperwork to someone else's--I never did quite understand why the part didn't come in. Ordered the part again bc they had already charged me the full price of the repair. Today 2/13 it's finally fixed and the first guy came 12/26. I did have someone else in in the meantime and the fireplace man's two repair people seemed much more capable. So if you have lots of time and don't mind getting the runaround and you call in September, yes they will take care of your problem. I'd give the two repair guys 5 stars and the front office 1 star. He was a true professional...contacted me personally twice..I was in meetings and gave him my wife's number...and followed up with her on timely basis. He diagnosed the issue with our igniter (leaf caught in igniter) and completed a full cleaning on the fireplace. The price was very reasonable, but the service was OUTSTANDING. Went into the store and was able to see the various fire logs and systems available. Jennifer answered all of our questions and allowed us to look around as needed. Decided on the set we wanted and were told it was in stock and could be delivered and installed soon. She sent us home with a measurement diagram and asked us to call back with the numbers so she could recommend the proper size logs. I thought we'd need the 24" set, but she said we'd only need the 21" set for our insert....no unnecessary upselling which I appreciated. Paid over the phone and were on the schedule for the following day. The tech arrived within the designated 2 hour time window and had the log system up and running within an hour max. They were patient and professional. I did some research online for replacement fire place and all were aiming to up sale to a ventless which is more expensive. After talking to a sales rep here they informed me that those systems get really and are more geared toward heavier winter climates. We checked out all the gas's logs and made a decision one. We were never pushed to buy and had all our questions answered. Installation was all within a month and a half. All estimates of materials were within the time frame that gave us. The place has been excruciating to deal with. They sold us a fireplace for $4500 that later on I found out we could have gotten for $2500 on amazon. But that aside, they installed it so badly that the remote shows so clearly. When we asked if we could return the remote as they didn't put it behind the tray, they refused. When we suggested they add it to the back of the tray, they refused. Additionally the fireplace is so dim and their response is the btu is low. Which when we got our plumber to come and check, it's not. It's the way they installed it. And now they don't want to hear anything but insist it's, not them! Everything we had a question, we had to call 3-5 times before getting a response. Mostly the response is rude and completely uncaring. Please STAY AWAY FROM THESE GUYS. They lie and oversell and never follow up. Customer service is as bad as it can get. BUYERS....IT'S FALL AND THEY ARE TO BUSY TO PROVIDE YOU WITH ASSISTANCE! At least that's what I was told when I drove 27 miles from home to come and do business with them. If I could give Fireplace Man "ZERO" stars that's what they would get from me! I'm remodeling the fireplace wall and have been looking for a glass door that would accommodate the prefabricated gas fireplace without having to replace the entire gas fireplace. I called this company and was working with a young lady by the name of Ashley. I gave her all of the information regarding my current fireplace that was installed by my builder (measurements, model number, etc.). She asked that I give her a day and to also get with the warehouse manager to see what they have available (this was on a Monday). I called back on the next day around 1:30pm and was told that Ashley was busy and that she would give me a call back. She called back and said that they were very busy and had not gotten a chance to look for anything but then turned around and said that she has one on the shelf that would be the only fit. I asked her to send a picture and via the email that was provided. Ashley stetted that it would be better for me to come into the store to see what they had available. I had already informed her on Monday that I wasn't interested in a custom door due to the length of time (4-6 weeks delivery) and that I wanted to find out what they had on hand before driving almost 30 miles and for them to not have anything. I asked her to please get with the manager and for them to please look for whatever they had and that I would see about coming in to look at what they had available. She stated that would be the best thing to do. The following day, I journey 27 miles to their location for Ashley to tell me that they didn't have time to look for anything and the one that she email me may or may not fit because it was one that was made for someone else but was incorrect. I reminded her of our entire conversation and she started saying that because we are in the fall they were not able to go and look. Then she said that the warehouse person was out sick yesterday and he would have been the only one that would have been able to go and check. I told her I thought you said he was to busy to look on yesterday (caught her in a lie). I told her since she was too busy to help me after communicating with her for two days to please let me speak with someone that was available and could help me. Ashley told me that no one was available and that they were all busy. I reminded her of the distance that I traveled to get to her location and she basically didn't care. As I walked back to the front desk to speak with someone else they all just looked at me as if I was the problem. Ashley explains to the other lady the reason why she couldn't help me but the entire time she failed to acknowledge that we were communicating and I specifically told her that I did not want to drive to there location and they didn't have nothing available. The other lady came around to try and help but she basically an additional waste of my time. There was also no accountability for Ashley's actions and more so that Ashley was basically going out of her way to help me. SERIOUSLY!!! She wanted me to basically go custom...come to find out the warehouse manger was out sick and he wasn't actually busy like Ashley said he was (JUST LIES)! At this point I'm trying very hard to hide my anger under my mask but I'm sure that wasn't possible. As I was getting ready to leave Michelle was standing at the front desk so I asked if the company was on Yelp, Facebook or had an Instagram page. Now, I have Michelle's attention...she responds with a "NO" to instagram but she would be more than happy to try and help me out. Oh, NOW you want to help me out. You was too busy to get involved 25-30 minutes prior but when I started asking about where your business was being advertised you want to be helpful. I started explaining to Michelle the lack of respect for my time but she just wanted to over talk me and make excuses. I'm not sure as to why NONE of them was interested in wanting to help me. We are trying to get my elderly mother's home ready for move in. We set up an appointment with the Firplace Man to come out and give a quote to fix the firebox since the home inspection revealed that the firebox needed to be repaired. Per the Fireplace Man's website it clearly stated that they provide Firebox repair services. When we scheduled the appointment, their customer service let us know the charge to come out would be approximately $200. $200 dollar later, all they did was come out an inspect the fireplace confirming what we already knew and then proceeded to tells us they don't provide services for repairing fireplaces or chimneys. Originally from Deer Park. Purchased a Monesson, gas, direct vent, fireplace from FPM in 2014 for our retirement home being built in Flatonia, TX. The house and fireplace installation was completed summer 2015. Fireplace worked first winter. 2nd winter it needed repair and every year since. We continued to use them for service for two years. The only way we were put on a schedule required one of their employees to be paying their family in San Antonio a visit....and then it would be scheduled for a Friday for him to stop by on his way to San Antonio. And then when he came, and he didn't have the needed parts it would be another wait until his next trip to San Antonio before he could come back to install parts. Several more years went by and we continued to be patient and hopefully we would once again be placed on the schedule for a service call. That time never came. 2018, my last contact with FPM and rather sarcastically was informed it would be an $800 service call per trip to come to Flatonia and that would not include any parts or repair work and that chances are it would take several trips since their trucks do not keep extra parts on them. Decided to reach-out to other service providers. Will never recommend FPM nor give them another red cent of our money again. Buyer beware! read more

We recently purchased fireplace doors as a mode of child proofing for our 1 year old. They were very helpful in the show room and explained the different options for our set up. Unfortunately after the money was taken for the product that all went out the window. They never followed up with communication regarding issues around the measurements and with the installation. After the installation i followed up on some issues around the child proofing and the response was as if I was never even a customer. They had no care in the world for how their customer service or lack of came across. I called in early November and got an appointment to clean and inspect for December 7th. Oscar came out, cleaned, inspected, and gave me an estimate for a) fixing the top of the chimney and b) power-washing the outside of the chimney near the top and shellacking it to seal it. He also said the fireplace box needed repair. Since it was so old, he said he would email me with an estimate after he did some research on the parts. That was December 7th and as I write this on January 23rd, I am still waiting for a price. Now, I'm going to have to get someone else to come in and give me an estimate, paying more money. Where do I begin with fireplace man? We asked to have our fireplace serviced and then cleaned. When Ray arrived he spent about 15 minutes looking at it and said it needed a new pilot to work appropriately. We said ok and had him go ahead and get the pilot on order. We paid him that day for the service even though he was only there for 15mins. I had to call back daily for two weeks and kept getting the run around on the pilot. Once I started to get demanding, we finally got feedback that they founded figure out what type of pilot it is and Ray needed to write down the serial number. I said ok...when will you come. Again I had to call for a week and got the run around but eventually got Ray to come back. We spent over an hour looking for the serial number. Finally we were able to find it. Then he said he was sure to figure out the pilot and get it on order. After another week of back and forth, rays assistant called back and said that they could find the pilot type again!!! This time they tried to upselll another fireplace! By then I was so frustrated so I made an appt at another fireplace store. They came and were very professional. They were able to figure out in 5 mins that the fireplace didn't need a new pilot. It just needed a new remote. It took 15 mins to get it working again!!! Secondly, We has paid to have fireplace man clean our fireplace. What a complete waste of money. I thought it would be a deep clean but a superficial glass clean. He spent literally 5 mins at our house...what a complete joke. Bottom line: fireplace man is a joke of a store. Their staff is not knowledgeable and they tell you the wrong things. Awful service. Our fireplace was repaired at our home and cleaned. Called them within 90 days to tell them wouldn't start at all. They told me that is pilot light went out by the "wind" then it would cost me another $225. The most common reason for a pilot light going out is poor gas feed to it. You will be hard pressed to find another fireplace/grill store with more brands and more showroom items for you to look at. I only gave one star because Yelp doesn't allow zero. This company deserves all the wrath that has been written. As a business owner, I know that if you have half ones and half fives, that the fives must be friends and family. We bought our gas logs from them years ago. When the remote stopped working this season, we changed the batteries in the remote, but to no avail. The fireplace would light only after holding the remote for 12-13 beeps, then the fireplace would burst on in a frightening blaze. It would turn off normally. We called the shop asking for service. The woman announced that a service call would be $225. SHOCK! But what could we do? We were afraid that the pipes were clogged, or that the gas line needed to be blown out, picturing a serviceman spending hours dismantling and cleaning the logs and lines. The call couldn't be scheduled sooner than two weeks out so we waited. When the service man arrived he was brusque and unfriendly. He knelt in front of the fireplace, pulled a small black box out of the fireplace, opened the box and removed four batteries. He said, "you need to change the batteries, and obviously you haven't because these are the batteries that come with the unit." I brought him four AA batteries, he replaced them and put the box back in the fireplace and used the remote to light the logs effortlessly. He said, "now that will be $225." He steeled himself for the response, as he obviously knew that we would be upset. "FOR CHANGING BATTERIES?????". "Yes, call the owner, Michelle if you don't like it. Use the number on the receipt." He repeated this several times. I gave him a credit card, and he wrote the number down. My husband was aghast, literally had his jaw hanging open. So luckily, the service man wrote the number down wrong and the owner, Michelle, called our assistant to let her know and to try to get a good cc number. Our assistant told her that it was only batteries and that we were very unhappy with the charge. Michelle stated that we had been told the price for the service call and that she got charged $500 for a service call so hers is reasonable. When asked why the woman on the phone when we booked the appt didn't tell us to check the batteries, she stated that they did, that they always do. We told them they DID NOT, or we would have checked them and that we didn't even know there WERE batteries in the fireplace. She argued that they always tell the customer to check the batteries. So now she's calling us liars?? Honestly, she clearly hates people and has no business being in business with the public. There are other places out there, you just have to google it. Wish we'd checked reviews before we bought from them. Our kids are trying to train us to do that. It's the only way to avoid making the mistake of giving your business to companies that are unworthy. Do I expect a call to rectify this situation? NO. Do I expect the owner to justify their actions and attitudes and blame ME for the problem. YES. This company gets its attitude from the top, and until ownership changes, the attitude will not. UPDATE: Lol, as predicted the owner argued with me and called me a liar in her response. The tech DID NOT clean anything or tune it up. He literally changed the batteries and gave me the bill. Either the tech is lying to the owner or the owner is lying to the public. Ridiculously poor customer service. Spent over $1000 on firepit supplies. Because we were told we could exchange it, we purchased a gas key ($29 very small portion of amt spent in their store) unsure of the actual length needed. Called several times to exchange it for correct size and was told each time that the shorter key that I needed was out of stock. Now that the key is FINALLY back in stock after 3MONTHS I'm told that they can't exchange it due to their 7-day return policy which is on the invoice. How do you exchange within 7 days if the item needed is continuously out of stock? Doesn't matter that I was told by Ashley that it could be returned regardless of stmt on the invoice. I have no rating because although the men that came out during HARVEY did a great job. We were over charged for some equipment that was the wrong size. They brought the right size and fixed it but never reimbursed us for the money we over paid. Was scheduled for a chimney cover install on a house I am remodeling. 1.5 hrs into the scheduled time, no tech and no phone call. I called the company and they get the tech to call me. He states he's running late but it actually sounds like he woke up. Then he states the weather is not safe for install (stated it was too foggy but actually it was not that bad) so he would like to reschedule for the afternoon. Im fine with that, I dont want anyone to get hurt. However, he can't give me a specific time and only states he'll give me a heads up 30 minutes prior to arrival. Mind you, I just worked over night and I busted my butt to drive 1 hr across town to make sure I'm at the site for the tech to install my chimney cover. (I was also told by the scheduler that this was the only time they could come and install my chimney cover because they were booked through the next couple months.) When I call the office back to get a specific time, they just repeat that I will receive call 30 minutes prior to the techs arrival. Im tired so I head home to get some sleep. Im not happy but I still need this chimney cover. So Im about to go to bed and all of a sudden I receive a call that a new tech is there and ready to install. No warning call. Well I suck it up and go back to the site. They get the new cover installed and this tech has no problems with the weather. However, it looks like the measurements were off. There is a pretty noticeable gap on one of the sides (measured by the original tech). When I ask the new tech about it, he states that it'll be fine. I hope the new tech secured it so that it wont get blown off by a strong wind. Interaction with the original tech was very unprofessional. This company has been around a long time. Hopefully the original tech is not indicative of the rest of the company. Based on this interaction, I probably will not be doing business with this company again. 2 stars for getting a different tech out there to install the chimney cover promptly. Would have liked a warning call like they stated they would give me. Also would have liked the cover to be more accurately measured. Not sure whats up with the original tech. Unfortunately, The Fireplace Man is the only vendor in Houston for fireplace boxes from the best vendors and service on those boxes. The point of this review is to make people aware of the less-than-helpful attitude of this business and the real potential cost of this non-essential appliance. We purchased a Majestic direct vent system in 2013 that has started to randomly turn on by itself. The service call was $225 + tax. They spent 10 minutes in our home. According to the invoice, they performed a 'gas service", then removed two parts and left, after telling my husband there was a KNOWN problem with our model firebox (the two parts didn't communicate properly). As they left, they said we would receive a quote for what it would cost to fix the firebox. The quote was received and included another $225 for installing the two parts (which are almost $500). I called and spoke with Michelle, the owner, about the additional labor charge, which is significantly more than the best plumbers charge per hour. There is nothing they can do about the labor charges, but they would be happy to sell me the parts if I have someone else to install the parts. I would be happy to do this, but they took the old parts and I have no idea how to plug in the new parts. Michelle kept pointing out that the "gas service" typically takes care of most problems and it is like car repairs where there is a labor charge to install parts.
