First: Competitors I got several estimates - My home warranty's contractor, Home Depot/ARS, a friend's husband, and Richmond's Air. Richmond's Air was the most reasonable price among all estimates, even the friend! He also took less than 30 minutes to take a look and give me an estimate. Home Depot was here for hours and gave me a presentation and ultimately an unbelievably high price which they later slashed by $4k when I said I wouldn't choose them. Still too high, also weird that they were gonna charge $4k extra? Second: Communication/Punctuality James told me a reasonable window of time that the team would arrive and also when they'd complete the job. They gave me a call beforehand to let me know they were running a little late, regardless the job was done on time (same day). They replaced everything but my furnace. Finally: Service The team was friendly and explained anything I asked about and even helped me install my new thermostat. They put a drop cloth down from the front door to the AC and left minimal dust or mess. They also gave me the manuals for the equipment as well as told me about the 10 year warranty. This was all a month ago and my AC has been working perfectly since and air quality reads way cleaner than when I moved in. Dealing with a broken AC in Houston is horrible and I highly recommend reaching out to Richmond's Air instead of wasting time shopping for multiple other quotes. I strongly advise caution when dealing with Braswell's for HVAC repairs. He identified a leak in my…read moreevaporator coil and recommended I add refrigerant. He said it could last from 6 months up to 3 years--he wasn't sure--and that if the system failed again, I would need to replace the part or the entire system. He charged me $235 per pound of virgin R410A refrigerant; my system required 4 pounds. The next day, a neighbor told me I was ripped off because their AC was refilled with 4 pounds of refrigerant for the standard service cost of $169. My system stopped working after three days!!! I believe I was intentionally misled into buying the refrigerant. Braswell performed a leak diagnostic and knew how severe my leak was but likely thought he could make $940 now and have me call him back for more work later. Beware of contractors with predatory behavior. I should have realized he was going for the kill when he said no one called him all winter. I later discovered that most companies charge $75 to $90 per pound of that refrigerant. Not only did he recommend the wrong service, but he also tripled the usual charge. When I told him my system had failed only after three days, he wanted to schedule an appointment to "do another diagnostic."

During our recent February heat wave, the system failed again. Matt (owner) and Matt came out to evaluate and repair it. But the 18 year old system was at the point of repair it now and maybe again in the next year or so, or replace it. I decided to go with a full system replacement (AC & furnace). The American Standard system we had worked great (for 18 years) so we replaced it with the newest version. The crew arrived on the appointed date and time and went right to work. I was impressed that they placed drop cloths on the stairs and on the hallway to the attic ladder. They went right to work and 5 hours later Matt was giving me a walk thru to make sure everything was done to my satisfaction. It is. We've had a few cold and hot days recently so I was able to test the furnace and AC system. Everything works like it should.
