Update - June 2025 Fireside refunded me for the cost of the insert, but I'm now taking them to Small Claims Court to recover the thousands of dollars in damage to my home - damage they originally promised to reimburse in full, then backed away from once they saw the real cost. They now expect me to split expenses for a mistake that was entirely theirs. I specifically asked whether a permit was needed. They assured me it wasn't. In reality, the permit was required - and now I'm left dealing with the fallout. I've had to begin the process of obtaining the proper permit myself just to bring my home back into compliance with both city code and HOA requirements. DO NOT GO TO FIRESIDE - Fixing gas fireplace, follow up review. 3 different people gave me a different answer for the 2nd part needed to fix my fireplace. THEN, after beinglied to, I was told the part is not available because it is "obsolete" and I would be reimbursed for my money and that I could come into the showroom...(You see where this is leading...). I refused and requested a check, including the 3% they charge for credit card payment. Come to find out, my fireplace CAN be fixed with new parts - Fireside refused to get the parts from other places, entire kit was available elsewhere. I called and spoke with Matt at Sunstone and he can do it easily within 2 weeks of approving the contract. FIRESIDE was LYING when they said they couldn't get the parts. This is 100% a sales scam to get me to buy an entirely NEW fireplace. I have to wonder how many other people have lost out and were conned into getting an entire new unit when the parts are readily available. I will be filing a formal complaint with the BBB. There was no real attempt to even find the parts needed. The communication was shitty, the effort nil. The value was a sham. GO TO SUNSTONE HVAC LLC for your fireplace needs. Sunstone was accommodating, had excellent customer service and got me a quote in 24 hours. It was a little bit more than I planned on spending but it was a fair price. DO NOT USE FIRESIDE. Things did not go smoothly from the start. The install team had to borrow my tools to complete the job. During the install, they found that 5 of the 6 interior refractory panels were cracked straight out of the box. They assured me that they would contact the warranty department and get replacements on order. The following evening, I could smell gas outside my house from 50 feet away from the meter. I called them and was told that they did not have servicemen on the weekends (it was a Friday) and that I should shut off my gas at the meter. That means no fireplace, furnace, or hot water for the weekend. Remember those broken refractory panels? They did not. I had to call to get the replacement of those started. Brandon in their warranty department asked for photos of each broken panel, which I provided. Wait the 1+ month lead time and schedule a service call with them. The tech shows up with 4 of 5 panels and no understanding that there should be a fifth. Add 1+ month of lead time. Brandon tries again and fails. The service person shows up with a panel, but it isn't the right one. Another promise that the warranty department will follow up. No follow up. Once again, I'm reaching out to manage this project for them. Brandon's response is to just send over a technician as if they can will a replacement panel into existence by coming the next business day. That was the last chance that I gave him to correct this issue. Brandon's manager is much more competent and is able to FINALLY finish the install. The total tally for this is borrowed tools, leaking gas, multiple service trips, project management of their team, and 10 months to install a premium fireplace in exchange for the full price and a "sorry." I highly suggest going elsewhere even if it costs more. read more

Long review but history is important! I purchased two fireplace inserts and a set of stand alone logs about 18 months ago spending over $10k. After installation, in the April 2020 timeframe, we tested both inserts. Neither would not stay lit so I called for service. It took a couple of weeks before they actually came out but not a huge deal since we were headed for early summer. The tech who arrived was very polite. He discovered the issue with one of the inserts was that the installers had failed to remove the ventilation knock out. Such a basic task and i wondered how the installers even test fired the unit? Likely, they did not. The tech told me the other unit was struggling to get air (via the ventilation piping they installed) and recommended I use the "cold climate" feature which helps with creating a draft. Fast forward to December 20, I tried to fire up the first fireplace and got an error message saying the unit had been "safely disabled." The second unit, which we had been using for several days (cold climate feature in use) would now not stay lit. I called for service and it went to voicemail. Later in the day I got a call back. I explained what each unit was doing and was told by the rep that they were scheduling about a month out and that I needed to know that the service call for the two units would be $479. Wait, what? I asked how they could charge this outrageous sum without even knowing what the issue was! I was told that the service call included a 13 point inspection to which I said I wasn't asking for an inspection just a repair. I was told that my units were out of warranty and that was the cost. I asked to speak to her supervisor. After a short hold, I was told that her manager would call me after she finished her meetings. Never heard from the manager. Meanwhile, I looked at a video produced by the manufacturer and fixed the first unit simply by toggling a switch. I got the second until going by removing the front glass while firing it up allowing it to get the necessary oxygen and warming the vent enough to create the necessary draft. $479 saved, for now, but the installation of the second unit must have some issue as the unit does not consistently operate as designed. After the first of the year, I called again and read polite assistant who apologized and said they were working on their responses. She put me on hold and when she came back, she said the repair supervisor was booked but said he had me on his school the following "Tuesday." Four months and still no call back! My opinion is that the Heat N Go fireplace units are just fine, rather Fireside has two significant issues: poor installers and horrible customer service. Oh, and I looked up the warranty on these units there are warranted items up to limited lifetime including three year labor. read more

This company is a mess. They are impossible to reach. The worst customer service I've ever dealt with in a company in my life. I can't even imagine what they are thinking. DO NOT WORK WITH THEM. I have not had a consistently working fireplace since August. After waiting six weeks to get an appointment, their tech came to my house and left without finishing the repair, and without the fireplace working. It would light, but wouldn't stay lit. After the tech left, I reached out to Fireside in numerous ways, and I never got a response for over six weeks (and only got one after getting an email of a manager, which I got from another company in town). As Fireside knows, the fireplace is the only source of heat in my home. So I have had no reliable heat since August. No heat on Christmas. The only time I've heard from them is when the called for payment (twice) for a repair that wasn't done. Both times I said I needed to talk to a manager; both times I was assured I'd hear from someone. Nothing. The absolute worst company ever. Avoid at all costs. read more

Extremely disappointing. We purchased a gas fireplace (new construction). The price was outlandish, but perhaps not compared to other shops. Once moved in, we had problem after problem. Now it's been 15 months since we moved in and the fireplace won't ignite (again). Lowering my rating to 1-star. I can confirm that the owner, Jeff M, contacted me the day of the original review. He assured me that they were going to get this corrected no matter what and he gave me his number and allowed me to call him if I had any other issues. It was an encouraging conversation and I felt much better about the path moving forward. However, things did not get better. The custom screen was ordered and the delivery date was set for 12/4. This date came and went without any update from fireside. On 12/7, I called them and sure enough, the screen was sitting in their possession and progress was not being made (another delay). We set an installation date for 12/20. I received a phone call on 12/20 saying they won't be coming because the technician didn't receive any notes about what to do (another delay). FS wanted to send over Jeff B and I refused due to his incompetence (original review). Fireside sent over a tech on 12/27 for installation and it did NOT fit (another mistake/delay). I contacted Jeff M. on 12/27 to complain about the issue and that I'd like them to get motivated about closing the project. On the 12/29, Tim S called and wanted to come over to take measurements (again!). He explained to me that they will be sending the screen over to a laser cutting company to get this corrected. He explained to me that the cutting would be done on 1/12. After not hearing back on 1/12, I got in contact with Tim on 1/16. He agreed to come do the final install on 1/17. He arrived on time with the screen and it fit. However, there was SIGNIFICANT damage to the upper part of the screen (another mistake). Pictures are attached (with measurements) to this review to show the extent of the damage (~15 inches wide and one inch tall). Now, what FS will respond to this is "the scratches are not noticeable". The reader of this review needs to ask themselves this question.. "if I were paying $4500 for this project, would I accept this type of damage?". To be completely fair, the scratches are less noticeable when standing up, but when sitting down to watch TV, they are VERY noticeable. Again, look at the pictures. I did not argue with Tim as he is just a tech (and I assumed he doesn't make big decisions). I sent Jeff M, another notification that his staff is making mistakes and I will not accept this anymore. I pretty much told him that I am done working with his company due to continued incompetence (3 strikes and you're out...right?). Now there is the issue about payment. Before we go there, let's sum things up real quick: - Project was supposed to be completed on 10/27. Job was still open on 1/17 - Three major mistakes were made by them. First was due to Jeff B's inability to scope out a project and measure correctly, which forced me to pick a different front. Second was bad measuring for cutting. Third was the damage to the screen. - I have had to stay home to work with fireside about 6 times in a 3 month period. After Jeff received my email saying that I'd like to end our relationship and asking what would be the correct discount I should receive for all the trouble, I was offered $200. YIKES!! I declined and asked for $700. How did I come up with $700? I was quoted $630 for the same screen by another company. Jeff M replied and told me that they are going to fix the scratches and... "When the front is installed complete and the scope of work is completed I will expect the balance due to be paid in full. When the balance is paid in full we can discuss a reasonable solution regarding your time spent with the project." YIKES....after all the mistakes and headaches, he demands that I pay in full, then wait for him to decide a discount?! Review Readers: Does it seem fair that the owner of a company is demanding full payment after everything that happened? I think not. :-) I told him no and after some back and forth, we settled on a $450 discount with the agreement that the scratches will not be fixed. No apologies were ever given. :-( Everything I have in this review is very well documented through emails and text messages. In the end, this probably ended in a lose/lose situation. I ended with a scratched finish and I'll have to pay another $200 to get a clean finish. I doubt Fireside made much, if any, on this project. However, I'm slightly on the happy side because I don't have to work with them anymore. There you have it. If you look at other reviews for fireside, you'll see that they do a good job of replying to customer issues on yelp. I'd really love them to answer this question: After readers read this review, please explain why hardworking consumers should have any confidence in contracting your company for their needs? This is the single worst customer service that I have ever experienced. FOLLOW UP IS AWFUL I originally connected with Fireside back in early October as we had purchased a house that had bought 2 gas inserts that were purchased and installed by Fireside in 2017. Fireside sent a technician to our house, but upon his arrival he stated he didn't have the right parts. More than 20 emails later, more than 5 phone calls and 2 visits to your store it is now towards the end of December and you still haven't followed up. My last conversation Fireside stated that this was their #1 priority and they would ensure that follow up was received. We were having trouble getting a review and bid scheduled by a competing business for an Enviro Boston fireplace insert. When we called Fireside Home Solutions to see if they could handle a special order for the same insert, Thomas Gamble went out of his way to get us a competitive quote, and made a special trip out on his way to work to review the fireplace and take measurements. We had the review/bid done and the install scheduled before the other company even called back to schedule the initial review. Way to go FHS! We have been loving the new insert, and have probably been building fires far too often just because it works so well :-) read more

After leaving my project unfinished for months because of poor scheduling, then canceling a Friday afternoon appointment I had my credit card company withhold payment until the project was finished. I had unfortunately paid in full before installation. As soon as it was done I paid in full. That was in the fall of 2019. Recently I was contacted by the Washington County property tax department. Fireside Home Solutions had reported to them that I had improvements in my home that they should check out. All of my work was permitted through the county. I was not trying to dodge taxes. I WOULD THINK TWICE BEFORE I LET THESE PEOPLE IN TO SNOOP AROUND YOUR HOUSE. The actual work they did was not great either. Northwest Natural Gas fixed several issues with the fireplace insert. Their own electrical contractor had to come and fix the electrical work for the gas range to function. Fortunately, he was very nice. If the original electrician had not left the wiring as it was, I would have been unable to cook for two months. He fixed it in about twenty minutes. read more

Update: Tech came out last week promptly and fixed my fireplace. Works great now. Update: Received a call from the sales manager Tim today with an apology and he credited some money back for the inconvenience. I have a tech scheduled to come out Monday to work on my fire place. So far I'm happy with the fast response from the business to try to resolve issues that arise. I really appreciated the call from the sales manager. He gave me his number and advised me to call him if I continue to experience issues. Previous Comment: My fireplace is having problems so I called for service. The tech showed up and did some maint work on it and said I needed some parts to fix my issue. He said they needed to order the parts and someone would give me a call to schedule to come back out. I payed the full amount including the parts needed up front, a receipt was suppose to have been emailed to me but I never received it. Towards the end of the week I still have not heard from anyone and my fire place is completely dead. I don't know if it was shut off awaiting parts or not but I called the store to check ETA and to have my reciept resent to me. I was told someone will call me in the next day or so to schedule and its been over a week and still nothing AND still no reciept either. Called the store just now and was told my order fell through the cracks and only one item out of two were ordered. I had her resend my receipt and was told AGAIN I should recieve a call later today to have a tech schedule to come back out. I'm not happy with the run around and the service so far. I feel as if i got scammed a bit since i paid in full and continue to recieve a runaround. Just hoping my fireplace gets fixed soon and I hear from someone today. read more

I decided to give Fireside a call to do a thorough inspection and any necessary maintenance on my fireplace. It was working fine, but I'm not sure if's ever had a check-up and it is nearly 20 years old. I had the pleasure of meeting Rich today, as he was the one who came out to do the work. Rich was super friendly and helpful, and I appreciated how he explained what he felt needed to be cleaned, re-oriented, etc. He did a great job and it looks like I have a brand new fireplace! More importantly I feel better knowing that everything is in good working order. The only downside is I think the $289 flat-fee price is a bit steep. They don't have an option for a tune up, so you just schedule a service just like if your fireplace wasn't working. On the flip side I think I got what I paid for, which was excellent service. In the end I do believe it was worth it and I'd definitely recommend them! read more

I can't tell you where to get your new Fireplace from, but I can certainly say I would not get it from Fireside (FS) Home Solutions on Boones Ferry Rd. TEN (10) weeks ago, they installed a new Montego Gas Fireplace that was not working correctly and stopped working altogether the very first night. On top of that, they did not complete the gas line installation correctly, left with parts belonging to me, and later argued my gas line work was not included in the price agreement. However, this was all after I had specific conversations with one sales rep and two separate installers and was charged ~$500 for said gas line installation. Then it took them two weeks to get a service tech back out for an inspection. The service tech said he was sorry for the inconvenience and promised someone would call me back within 24hrs with an ETA for parts and repair. I did not receive a call back from FS for five more days, at which time they still had no ETA for the part, but claimed it had been ordered and they would call me back when they found out. Another week went by with no communication about parts or repair. Six weeks later (total), I finally called back and said I wanted to have the unit uninstalled and a full refund of all of my money. I then got a call back, in less than one hour, from their very apologetic sales manager, with a confirmation of the part order and a repair date scheduled for the next week. The next week, Fireside called me and left a message confirming my appointment for the next day. Later that same day they called me back and said they had to reschedule because they had mistakenly ordered the incorrect part. They then claimed to have reordered the part and again had no ETA for the part arrival but stated they would call me back with an update. Another week goes by and, again, no call back from FS. So, again, I call back inquiring about an update. I was told the part was on order and it would be in the next week. I wait one more week and have to call back, again, to get an update on the part arrival. After some investigating and a long hold time, I was told the part had been mistakenly NOT ordered, but it would be reordered right away. This is when I finally had enough..... I then called the manager directly, because by now I have his personal cell number for escalation, and informed him of the situation. Again, he said he was very sorry and wanted to know what would make me happy. I said nothing would make me happy at this point. I did, however, proceed to tell him what was going to happen: Either 1) "You're going to call Montego and expedite this part with overnight shipping, clear your books for tomorrow and schedule an installation as soon as the part arrives, or 2) schedule uninstallation of the fireplace with a full refund the following day." He agreed. Miraculously, the part arrived in less than 24 hrs and was installed the very next morning. 10 WEEKS TO THE DAY!! Which was nice because I missed the entire cold part of Oregon winter. I'm still annoyed I was the one who had to devise a parts acquisition and repair plan. But hey, I got it done. Maybe I should be the manager of FS? After all that, they religiously called me 2-3 times a week for payment collections. That was a nice touch. Interestingly, I called Montego (the fireplace manufacture) myself and was told it usually takes about a week to get the specific parts required to repair my unit and there was no backorder on record or anything else that would have caused any of the aforementioned delays. I just wanted to confirm that there was no supply issue before I started blaming Fireside for all of this. I have to say, pretty much everyone at Fireside seems decent, except for the lady who was arguing with me about the gas line work THEY botched, but there is some huge breakdown in communication inside this company, and, in the end, nothing seems to get done unless you follow-up and/or start complaining. Unfortunately for Fireside Home Solutions, my wife is an interior designer for a local design studio in L.O. and will certainly not be recommending Fireside to any of their future clients. I was shopping around trying to find a new door opener to be installed, I reached out to Fireside for help. They ended up installing a Lift master elite belt drive, what a difference it made. They had me on the books came out installed the unit in no time very professional Company to work with! price was right the service was amazing and the installer did a top notch install! If I could down load pictures I would share. He coiled up the wires for the sensors at the bottom of the door very clean job. Ordered a piece of glass for my wood stove from here. It was a phone order for which I had to pre-pay for. I was told that it would be 1 month before it would be in and they would call me when it was ready to be picked up. 6 weeks later no call...so I call and ask for a status update...lady on the phone said that it was not there yet and she could not give me an estimate of time when it would be....then I was put on hold and when she came back on the phone, my glass was magically there. However, I was told that I could not pick up the glass for 24hours because she told me that the glass needs to be "checked over" before releasing it to me because they "typically arrive broken". So, I come in the next day and pick up my glass which is still in the packing box. I think nothing of it because I believed her when she said that the glass had been "checked over". But when I get home, I notice that I am the first one to have opened the box (shipping staples/original tape still in place) and the glass is broken. I bring it back the next day and explain my frustrations to the staff and they return the glass and said they would order a replacement but "these things usually take a long time due to it being a warranty situatuion" and they could not give me an estimate of time. To my suprise, one week later the glass is ready for pick up...I go to pick it up, first thing I notice is that the box has not yet been opened to see if the glass is intact! I was irritated that they knew the situation but no one bothered to check if glass was in one piece before calling me to come down there. Luckily the glass was in one piece this time. I understand that sometimes these things happen, but I guess it was the lack of accountability and the failure of making sure it didn't happen again to waste the customer's time that really bothered me.
