I had the very unfortunate experience of having "Affordable" Gas Fireplaces attempt to repair our…read morefireplace. John, the owner, arrived on location, ran a diagnostic and stated that the gas valve on our fireplace was malfunctioning. He quoted the repair @ $1,500, taking 2 hours of labor to repair. The price seemed steep but he assured me that replacing the entire unit would cost between 6-10k, so $1,500 sounded like a best option. During the 2hr repair, I have video footage of about 45 min of labor and 75 minutes of John sitting on my furniture , doing zero work on the unit. 2 hours after John left, the unit shut off, exhibiting the same problem that had been occurring before the "repair." John returned, used a jump wire to get the fireplace back on, stating that everything checked out fine. 20 minutes after leaving, the unit shut off again. Upon calling John, he stated that he did not know what was wrong with the unit, but for $250 he would change out the thermopile. Irritated, I called 2 other local gas fireplace repair companies who both stated that a gas valve repair should never cost more than $800 and that they would have done the repairs for around $500, taking roughly 30 minutes of labor to repair (which makes sense why John was able to sit in our living room for much of his quoted labor time). Both companies that I contacted quoted me repair costs for a thermopile for less than $200 but also stated that their technicians would be able to diagnose the actual issue before jumping in and replacing parts. At the moment, John has yet to respond to my text and phone call.

I used Yelp and found Steve at Perfect Chimney who could come out same day for a very small consult fee. He fixed it within 30 minutes and was polite and efficient! We also have another fireplace in our house that we've never used. He looked from the outside and offered to fly his drone up to see how they were holding up. He showed me detailed pictures of the issues he noticed from way down on the ground, that were needing fixes. He was clear in the reasoning and not sale-sy. The team is coming back in a week or so for several fixes and I'll update my review when that happens, but so far, very happy with their work.

If you're considering Alliance, don't…read more Roughly a year or so ago I hired them due to a leak coming from my chimney. After their inspection it was determine the flashing was in poor condition and needed to be replaced. This was done. About a month or two later the leak returned and some additional work on the flashing performed. Cut to earlier this year and the leak once again returned. Having lost faith in Alliance I went with another PDX-based fireplace and chimney company. On inspection they immediately asked who had done the work being going over how it was some of the worst, most incompetent/novice work they'd seen, went over the issues, and provided a quote for new flashing. Once work started and the Alliance flashing was removed it was then brought to my attention that not only was the flashing problematic but that the brickwork underneath it was eroded, quite noticeably so. While not Alliance's fault, this was called out as a contributing factor to the leak and should have called out when the original flashing was removed. Should have. They never brought it to my attention. Separate from work performed, Justin was pretty sloppy with communication and paperwork, as it would sometimes require 2 or 3 voicemails before I would hear back from him, as I'd notice issues with the quotes, and as I received calls from him from a few different phone numbers. There was also a tarp left wrapped around the chimney for a few weeks that he had no clue about. In summary: don't walk, run away. Between sloppy admin skills, bad communication, poor quality of work, and the willingness to do the bare minimum while covering up larger issues, I can't in good faith suggest Justin or his "team" to anyone.

Called and they refuse to think that it has anything to do with the new receiver that they installed or that the worker may have installed wrong or damaged something. Receiver has only a 30day warranty which was never said to me (that says something in itself). and only will send someone out for $200. I should have researched them better. I now see they they only have 3star rating. It should be 1 for not standing behind their product or work.
