I was fortunate to have Cole and Mike from Fireside Stone & Patio work on my gas fireplace this morning. It hasn't worked for several years, and I was dubious about it ever working again. However, Cole and Mike had it working in about 10 minutes. They then cleaned the fireplace. Cole took the entire fireplace apart and cleaned every inch of it, inside and out, even the logs! I contacted Fireside Stone and Patio to install a wood burning stove in my home. I have a heat pump, but it does a much better job of cooling than heating, so I wanted something to supplement it, and to heat the house if I lost power in winter. The owner, Tom Gross, came out shortly after I called to survey my home and the spot where I wanted the stove installed. He was very knowledgeable and took all the necessary measurements. After he left, the office sent me an estimate for a stove that did everything I wanted (energy efficient, would heat whole house), which I approved. They then sent me the contract, associated documentation and we agreed on an install date. One month and Tom came back with his crew, Chepe and Osman, who did a fantastic job on the install: They had all the necessary equipment, measured before they cut anything and assembled the stove, exhaust and roof vent all in the same day, returning the next morning just to confirm no packing material remained, touch up any light scratches on the pipe and clean up everything. They also showed me how the stove worked and explained the "starter kit" that came with the install (IR heat sensor, moisture probe, ash bucket and scoop, lighter gel and matches, heavy leather gloves). The stove works extremely well; it wasn't necessary to put an elbow in, so the stove vents straight up and out. It easily heats my entire house and uses relatively little wood, especially as I get better at using it and setting it for the most efficient burn. FSP did a great job on time and on budget, at a very competitive price. I recommend them 100%! read more

Fireside and Tom Gross (the owner) was absolutely wonderful to work with. We hired them to clean out our fireplace and provide an inspection. They were extremely professional and detail oriented in making sure we knew exactly the status of our fireplace and chimney as well as in the prep for very messy work of cleaning out a fireplace. We ended up needing multiple things done to our fireplace- interior and exterior - and Tom came to the house to go over all the parts of it and explain. They were very honest in their assessment and educated us on why certain standards had/must be met. We ended up hiring them for a 2 day complicated job- they handled everything from getting a metal worker to help with the heat shield and arranging the 2 day lift rental that was necessary. If possible, I could give Fireside Stone and Patio zero stars. This company ruined a $3,500 black walnut mantel because of their poor installation and incompetence. The expensive custom-made walnut mantel wasn't properly braced from the underside. The mantel is uneven, and is "sinking" in one corner. I paid approximately $3,500 for the mantle only to have to have it replaced. The owner of Fireside, Tom, provided NO resolution and WILL NOT STAND BEHIND HIS WORK. I will have to spend good money after bad to have the mantel replaced. Unethical business....Hire at your own risk. read more

Jack of all trades, master of none + they will leave you and your family in the cold! What a mistake I made going with this company. I went with fireside because they could complete the entire job including stone work. I had an error on my stove that kept coming up on my enviro Milan stove about a year after installation. I contacted fireside and informed them. During this conversation, I got no suggestions, only an excuse that someone else from fireside was more technical and was told this person would call me. I called them back after three days with no phone call. It's below 30s mind you. The person who picked up? You guessed right, the person I was told was more technical. This person said they were unsure of the problem and yet again, I would receive a call back. Because I realized, this company has no idea about their own product, I called a different company I had dealt with in the past. The owner picked up straight away, talked me through how to reset the stove, and problem solved. The first point is, fireside sells a product they don't even know about. The second point is they don't follow through with support at all, you literally have to harass them. Third point, their is no concern to them that my four children and I were SOL. While I am at it and very upset overall with this company leaving us stranded in the cold, I will share other concerns I have I never brought up. Mind you, I never brought them up because it's a pain to get support and I am sharing pictures to go with it. I paid over 6 grand and instead of putting a proper foundation under my stove, they put pieces of broken cement no wider than 2 inches to hold the stove up. They also installed a pipe in the rear with no clean out. That's right, you have to go through the trouble of dismantling the exhaust pipe from the rear of the stove to clean it out for the season. And lastly, they did not mount the outlet in the back of the stove, just left it laying off in the side next to the stove. I gu What a joke! It is now clear, they are more concerned with working new jobs, in a variety of things rather than helping their existing customers and even more, don't even know how to trouble shoot their own products! Had 2 fire inserts installed. Our fireplaces are small so it has been difficult finding ones that look decent and fit. We wanted to support a local business and finally after a couple years of trying to find a place we found fireside. The in-store staff were very nice and willing to answer any and all questions unrushed. I would say that the in-store staff are the ones that made us decide to go with this company. Scheduling the appointment was very easy and did not have to wait long. The reason that we did not give five stars is because the staff that came to actually perform the job was not aware of everything that we paid for and actually had to come back to place two items that they did not install on the first day. One piece was the surrounding of the fireplace insert that he "forgot " to install and the other piece was the cap that goes on the top of the chimney that he kept insisting we needed to pay for but we were telling him that we already paid for it. The installer definitely treated us as if we were just another job and not customers that he was trying to impress. Would I go with this company again? Probably because they did have the inserts that we needed. Just make sure you are fully aware of what you have paid for and make sure you get it all on the day of. read more

We purchased a Jotul fireplace insert last spring from Fireside. The unit just never worked correctly. Tom Gross and his crew at Fireside tried numerous fixes but nothing resolved the problem. Fireside ultimately replace the unit with a Heat and Glow insert at no cost even though the Heat and Glow was $300 more expensive. It took a few months, but now we are very satisfied and warm! I sent a request for info on a grill through Fireside's website. I wanted to buy a grill for my adult daughter for her new home. I had left my contact info and it included my Baltimore City zip code. I was told by the Fireside caller that they noticed my zip code and do not do business in Baltimore City. No one asked for my daughter's address or zip code. It was a very short call. From start to finish my experience with the team at Fireside has been top notch. I engaged Fireside to repair a cracked flue in my wood burning fireplace after they were recommended by a neighbor. During the process, I made the decision to update the open fireplace with a wood insert. The entire process was an education for me. But, during that time everyone from the repair team, sales team, office team and installation team have helped me along the journey. The insert was put in November 2022 and frankly it was pretty intimidating. My first couple of fires ended in frustration as smoke kept billowing out of the insert. I reached out to Fireside and told them I was ready to revert back to an open fireplace. Even then, the customer service was top notch. Tom gross called us and commited to making the situation right, even if that meant pulling out the unit and refunding my money. How is that for standing behind your product and service!! Ultimately, we still have the insert. Tom came to the house and spent several hours helping us "get to know" our insert which included showing us how to build the fire in a way to avoid the smoke and how best to warm the flue. Even though he walked us through it, I still wasn't convinced that "I" could do it. He left the house with me being appreciative but still skeptical. Since that time, I've successfully built four fires without smoking out the house and I do see the benefits of the insert over the open fireplace. I do still hold my breath when I'm trying to first build the fire but I'm hoping that will ease over time. If it doesn't, I know I can pick-up the phone and call Tom and he will be at my house ready to make things right! read more

This business used to be five star. I don't know what's happened, but I will no longer do business with them. After 3 appointment no shows, the service manager calling me on Monday and saying, "I see you left a message Friday," when I'd left one Wednesday, and a team coming out and having no idea how to remove the top plate of my wood stove, I'm done. The technician actually tried to pry the inside top plate off with a wrench, when it's easy to see all you have to do is remove the inside side plate. Their service department is not well-run and their technicians don't have a clue what they are doing. read more

This company's owner is Tom. He and his crew installed 2 gas fireplace inserts in our house in Hunting Ridge, Baltimore. We had a large power outage due to major windstorm in February, 2018. We had no heat. I called Tom's cell phone that he posted on their website. He guided me through RE-starting the gas inserts by installing 4 AA batteries in the fireplace control box for both inserts. I've had a fireplace for 20 years, converted it to a wood stove insert 10 years ago. Of course I have the stove and chimney serviced regularly, because I like my children and want to keep them. I've used a lot of different local companies. This is the first time I've used FS&P. Wow. Just wow. I've never seen a tech spend as much time cleaning the flue and the stove as Brandon and his team did. These guys didn't clean it so much as detail it. I'm kinda reluctant to build a fire in the stove now because it looks like it did the day it was installed. For the first time this year, I had a water infiltration problem. Brandon diagnosed it right away, gave me an immediate short-term fix, and clearly explained what it would take to resolve it for the long term. He spent some time describing how to do the work myself if I want to tackle it on my own, and then gave me a great estimate on having them do it for me. Do I want these guys doing work on my home? I moved to my house in Oct 2016. It had a wood burning fireplace that was in need of major repair. I shopped around and decided to go with Fireside to convert my fireplace to gas. Other companies gave me quotes without ever seeing my house. The other companies also neglected to tell me that moving gas lines and adding electrical inside the existing fireplace was not included in the quote. I contacted Fireside late November and the owner (Head Honcho), Tom Gross, came to my house to talk to me and get a feel for what would meet my needs. Turns out that because of the size of my house, I didn't need the more expensive, bigger insert. I like sales honesty. After going over all my options, I choose my model and install date. Tom have me the contact information for the plumber and electrician that he recommended. I called the plumber the next day and arranged that work. I used Ken Griffin Plumbing. The rep came out on a Monday was actually a few minutes early (appt was for 7 am). Awesome job. Ît was inspected by Baltimore County the next morning. The electrician came out on Friday and the plumber returned to connect the new gas line. Install was scheduled for the next day. Of course, the next day there was snow and ice, naturally. Turns out they hold back a few appointment times each couple of weeks to reschedule under such circumstances. It took about 2 hours to install and is way better than I expected or hoped for. And I get it in time for Christmas! I know this was long winded, but I really wanted to convey just how easy they made it for me. They were always in communication with their subs and I found everyone I dealt with to be highly honest, informative, and professional. A++++ read more

Very disappointing experience with this vendor. We contacted Fireside on the recommendation of a neighbor - we were interested in having our concrete sidewalk replaced with stone. Made an appointment in early September and met with Tom, who spent some time at our house looking at the existing sidewalk and discussing options. He also gave us an idea for adding some stone to the front of our house. Tom mentioned that he would get us a quote and if we agreed to start the project he could definitely do the sidewalk before Thanksgiving, if we wanted to add stone to the house it might not be done until Spring. We were very interested and that's were things went downhill. We never heard from Tom or Fireside again, despite leaving voice mails and sending text messages to ask about our quote. Because they were recommended by a neighbor we were sure they would get back to us so we didn't look for another company to do the work, we kept waiting, shame on us for thinking a business would do what they say they are going to do. We left a message saying if you are not interested in our project please just give us the courtesy of a response so we can move on, still nothing...finally reached the store and they apologized, said they would prepare and send the quote the next day - and oh by the way it was now too late to do the sidewalk this fall. We still never received a quote, 8 days later and we are moving on. We purchased a Lopi large flush hybrid-fyre wood insert from Fireside Stone and Patio. We live in Jarrettsville, MD which was outside of their service area, but after speaking with us, Tom agreed to come out and sell us a stove. We had been looking at Courtland Hearth and was not receiving good service, even after paying for the stove - the install was subbed out to a subpar contractor. With Fireside, Tom took our priorities and recommended a stove that met what we wanted. He fully explained why the Lopi insert was a good fit for us easily enough for us to see how the stove we originally wanted wouldn't actually give us what we wanted. The price was good for both the stove and installation. They showed up on time, did the job correctly, cleaned up afterwards and called to follow up after the install. They provided instruction in using our stove as well as tips on heating our house with wood and have been available with questions since. I highly recommend that anyone in the area call Fireside Stone and Patio before making their purchase. If you're serious about heating your house with wood, you need their expertise and service.
