Got my tires ok but then recommended $2,000 worth of repairs. Got 3 call recommending repairs that could way.

Horrible experience...and a waste of my time! I actually received ZERO repairs after spending 3 hours there over 2 days. I needed a tire pressure sensor replaced and called the location about 5pm on Monday 12/1. I was told they could indeed fix it and to bring my car. I got there about 5:45pm and there was a line to get into the parking lot. I again called to ensure they could take me and the lady said yes, just find an open spot, park and come inside with the key. I checked in and because they closed at 7pm, the lady asked who was paying cash and said to pay now because she was closing down the register. I paid for the service and continued to wait. About 7:30pm, the lady informs me that the sensor had been put on, but the device needed to program it was locked in another technician/mechanic's box and she called her manager so I would have to come back the next day. She assured me the sensor was put on and it would take only about 5 minutes to program and I would be on my way. So I go to Firestone Tuesday morning (12/2), about 7:30am. The guy at the computer/front desk tells me "Oh yea, it was me she called last night, the guy still isn't here so you'll have to come back." I assume he was the manager she said she called. He told me I needed to come back again later, and he would call me when the guy was in. I called back about 1pm and it was the same guy I spoke with that morning. He told me they were good to go and to bring the car...again saying it would only be 5 minutes and to ask for him when I got there. Miguel is what he said his name was. My son takes my car there and no Miguel...he was told Miguel was on lunch...the guy at the desk tells my son, after waiting for 45 minutes, that they will see the car in the order it came in and that the sensor was NOT put on. I had my son put the guy on the phone and he told me the same thing. In fact, he told me he talked to the technician from the night before and the technician told him the sensor was never put on...So who knows who the actual liar(s) is, but one of them lied to me! I requested that my money be returned and now I'm back at square one. Very bad experience at this location. read more

After waiting 2hour, I decided to asked how much longer until my car was service? just find out that my wait would be for 2 more hours until they could get to it. Avoid the Firestone at 9549 S Western like the plague. I've never had a worse experience at a mechanic. I had my older car in for major suspension service and new tires. Everything seemed fine, then I drove it away. Sounded like metal hammering the car on the smallest bumps. I called and had to bring it back. Turns out it was a faulty part that had to be replaced. So, I had to waste another day bringing it back to get replaced. Wasn't sure how a technician could have possibly let the car go with that sound - it was obvious. Next, I drive the car on the highway and it starts to vibrate like crazy. Had to bring it back in and waste a whole day. Turns out they didn't balance it properly, and had to do it again. Why didn't they check it properly the first time? And, the final blow, the technician managed to damage my car - backing into a something and ruining the door, which has to be replaced as it is bent and doesn't close properly now. They simply gave me a "claim number" and said I have to go get it fixed myself. So now I have to find body shops and get it fixed, wasting yet more of my time. I get that accidents happen and don't blame them for that. But, they broke it, so why aren't they wasting their time getting it fixed? So, bottom line, this shop obviously doesn't pay attention to their work or value their customer's time. I've never experienced a mechanic not noticing a horrible hammer sound, or not noticing that tires aren't balanced properly, or ramming my car into a stationary object. Maybe they ultimately get it right, but you'll waste your life going back repeatedly due to their negligence. And even when they crash your car, it is on you to get it fixed. Never been so disappointed in a mechanic or a business experience. Seems criminal. read more

I scheduled an 8 AM appointment for a full vehicle inspection online. When I arrived the young lady I spoke with said the service provider would be an hour and a half. I came back an hour later just to see that my car had not been moved. When I inquired about the delay, the young lady said they were short staffed and the only mechanic who could look at my car was backed up. There was someone else available who could provide the lesser inspection and it would be ready in 30 minutes. I agreed to that. 20 minutes go back and my car has not been brought in. I asked the gentlemen a the counter if I can go back to the full inspection since they have not started yet. I can have my husband pick me up and "ya'll can do what you need to do." He agreed but I asked him to be sure. The young lady walks up and I ask her the same question and her response was, "No, no, no..." and rudely states they will not make the change. I told her I was asking a question, not making a demand and she need to watch her tone. I left. When the young man called me to tell me my car was ready and what was wrong with it, I said I would be there at 4 pm to pick it up. When I arrived there was a note on the door, literally a piece of notebook paper on the door that said they closed at 3PM today. So now they had my car overnight for a 30 minute inspection. read more

Car was picked up on Friday afternoon to be towed here. They called me and told me they would try to repair the tire or order another one to replace it. They called me back Saturday morning to tell me it couldn't be fixed and the price for a new tire. Told them to proceed, told me car would be ready before the end of day. Waited all day and no phone call, call them back on Sunday, and ask if car was completed. At this point I was already annoyed, gentleman on the phone proceeds to saying that they called me, and that the number on file was incorrect? If that was the case, how did they call me twice before this with no issue? Then he proceeds to tell me that they had to order the tire and that it would be ready by end of day. They called me at 4 pm to come pick up my car. No one told me before that the tire needed to be ordered and that it would take some time, I would've found a different tire shop. I took my care in for back brakes and an oil change. After inspecting the car I was told that i would also need a new control arm. After a thinking about I asked them to also install 2 new back tires. After about 5 hours and $1,600 they told me my car was ready. I left that even and headed out to visit a friend. As soon as I got to 60 mph on the expressway my car began t o shake very badly. I took the car back the next morning and after about an hour they told me the car was ready. I went back on the expressway and the same thing happened. I called again and was told to bring my car back t h e next day, which I did. After another day and a half I picked my car up. It has been a week and my car is still not right. I cannot get in the expressway without my car shaking badly. I am a Uber driver and am losing money because I cannot take long trips. At this point I don't know what too do. I was able to accelerate past 60mph with no problem prior to taking my car to firestone. Bought 4 tires 11/22. Right rear tire lost air in January, 23. "It's just cold". Continued to add air all winter then in the summer same problem with this same tire. Took it back. "Changed valve," 2 weeks later down to 24 psi. Back I go. Hate to go because it ALWAYS takes all day. So I kept putting in air. Had to go on the road. Filled up with air. I'm on the xpressway and sensor shows 21psi while I going 80 mph. Back I go. "Sealing rim" . But they "fixed" the front rt not the rear rt.! Tried to have me come back the next day. Nope. So they "fixed" it while i stood outside. 2 weeks, back I go. They replaced the tire but said if it happened to change the rim. It did. 2weeks later. I go to buy a rim. Guess what? The rim was just fine. Remember that valve they "replaced"? Turns out the rim people showed me the valve. It was corroded and leaking air. Go there at your own risk. read more

This location is getting worse and worse. First I had to return for them to redo a job that they had done poorly. Decided to give them another try, I scheduled an online appointment for a new battery, called that day and my appointment was given away and they did not have the battery I needed. They rescheduled the appointment for Friday. I called about 30 minutes before my appointment and found out my battery was not in. No one called to let me know this and they tried to reschedule my appointment for next Friday. When I asked why I was not contacted to let me know my battery had not come in, the guy on the phone said don't you hear all these phones ringing, That will then be 1 and a half weeks for a battery, I asked to speak to a manager, at this point I have been on hold for a total of 20 minutes. I called three times across three days trying to get an appointment. I was out on hold for over an hour each time.

I came to get a valve stem replaced. A service I received from this location on a different tire about a month ago with no problem. This time I asked for a valve stem replacement and the told me I needed a sensor without looking at my car. I said no I just need a valve stem. He said a sensor will be about $80. Them the gentleman working on my car asks if I want a new sensor. I say no I just need a valve stem. Just to let you know I had already gotten my tire checked by someone I trust. They just don't do valve stems that is the only reason I entered this place. The do the work. I drive off my sensor is not working. I call and he assures me it just needs resetting. I know different. I bring my car back they check it and say I need a sensor. I say my sensor worked fine when I brought it in. He says can you prove we broke it. Now a new sensor for my car will cost $137 instead of $80. I asked them to replace my tire. Even if I have to pay more I will not give my money to dishonest people. read more

Clearly, many people just come on to post reviews to complain. Car repairs are slow and expensive. Its only gonna be faster and cheaper if you go to a less busy, possibly less professional place. I always get quotes from my dealer and this place is about 20% cheaper than the dealer always. Plus no one tries to upsell me while I'm waiting like at the dealership. They've always done all the work within 10 hours and had my car back to me, and sometimes I had a lot done (rotors, breaks, tires, oil change all in one day). They forever earned my trust when I mistakenly told them I needed all 4 rotors replaced when I really only needed the rear ones. I had already signed off on the work and price for 4, and they called to say it'd be a few hundred cheaper because the front ones were fine. I'd have never known if they decided to rip me off. Coffee and WiFi are available which is good. The waiting area is often full of noisy people talking loudly on their cell phones (like, non stop for hours, who are they talking to??) and grumbling about how long its taking, but thats not really something Firestone can control. Just bring headphones. We all hate when our car breaks down and ruin our plans. Just accept it. The workers keep their cool despite all this drama going on around them. read more

I bought my car in for a simple tire replacement, and the rep stated to me that it would be completed the same day. One day later and 51mins of holding on the phone I decided to come in myself to find out what's going on. The phone call would've taken 30seconds. Is my vehicle ready yes or no? My vehicle was kept overnight which is fine but there was no courtesy call explaining to me that my vehicle would be kept overnight and it can be picked up the next day at whatever time. It's absolutely disgusting to me that once they answer the phone they immediate put you on hold with no regard. I would never ever patronize this establishment again I would rather go to a mom and pop shop and take my chances there. Even looking at the reviews I still gave them a chance and they failed me. I went here to get a tire fixed, told me it would be an hour and a half. 3.5 hours later I call just to check up, I was in no rush but just wanted to make sure I didn't miss a call. I get placed on hold immediately, waited 16 minutes. I got a phone call from the same number saying my car was ready. The mechanic told me my oil was below minimum (I was due for service) but no reason I should have been that low. He asked if I wanted to do a oil change for $65 I said no I'll check it at Walmart and if its low I'll just add a quart to get me until I can go to my regular place (I pay $36 for full synthetic). I get to walmart buy a quart and check my oil before I add it. I was right in the sweet spot between minimum and maximum on my dipstick. Either these people really don't know how to check oil or just want to scam you out of your money. So many better areas in the Chicago area that will work harder for your business, don't give this chain the satisfaction of your business especially in these tough times, support local business!! read more

I dropped my car off at 7 am for a brake job. I was told they would do an inspection ($9.99) before i could get an estimate. At 1:00 pm, after I made 2 calls, i received a call stating my lug locks needed to be removed before a complete inspection could be done. At approximately 1:30 pm, I approved the repair estimate with a forecast completion at 4 pm. As of 5:23 pm I still have not received my car. This is unacceptable. read more

I went there to purchase a new tire and ask the service clerk to PLEASE check the pressure on all of my tires because the warning light came on. After waiting 2 hours for one tire, I get into my car and they left their junk everywhere, the warning light was still on, I was so perturbed I pulled off. They failed to give my car the courteous INSPECTION as promised. The next day I found out another tire was down to the tread and began shaking profusely on the highway. If they would have given my car the inspection, I would have happily bought an additional tire instead of almost risking my life on a bad tire. I'll never, ever, ever go here again. read more

I had a very bad experience on more than one occasion but most recently, I dropped my car off to get it serviced. I asked for a new battery which I thought would resolve the issue of my car shutting off. I also asked about brake work to be done on my vehicle. The Mechanics assessed my vehicle and told me that I needed a timing belt and my brakes done. So they changed my battery anyway of which I was told in the assessment did not need to be changed but they needed to call me to get permission to work on my brakes???? So you didn't need permission to change my battery? Which in the assessment didn't need to be changed? By the way, I am a woman. I believe that this place takes advantage of women. I spoke to a woman who worked in the shop who really couldn't explain to me why you can make a decision to do a job of replacing a battery that didn't need a new battery without suggesting that the battery wasn't the issue, it was the timing belt. They said they changed it because I asked for it but their assessment suggested that it wasn't needed. By the way, my brakes weren't changed because I asked for it. This is like going to the doctor and saying I need surgery, I have a headache and the doctor says ok. Let's get you prepped for surgery, knowing that this is not the best solution for the issue at hand and then want you to pay for something that you really didn't need! This place is a rip off!!! They take advantage of women and the women that work there should be ashamed of knowing that this is going on. read more

After speaking to someone at corporate level next time I needed a tire I went back to just buy a tire nothing complex just a tire. I went and ordered the tire. The person handling the transaction was very nice and patient. I thought they made some systematic changes for the better so when I returned I asked to speak to manager about creating a business account there since I am now in the automotive business. Manager looked up my almost 14 year history and said I needed to prove myself there first. He walked away mid conversation and intentionally ignored me. When I asked him was he finished he responded in a loud tone and I was quite shocked/embarrassed. I cancelled my order for the tire and went to location at 103rd Cicero where they gladly took my order and money and gave me proper tire and service. To be honest I need to rate myself 1 star also for giving them another chance after all the bad experiences. I believe in supporting local businesses but this one will not get a dime from me again.
