So I came in for a lifetime alignment. Got there 20 minutes before our appointment. They got us in right away. An hour later they told me they couldn't adjust camber because the bolts might break. I replaced the upper control arms the week before so the bolts were free to move. They tried to up charge me over $100 for bolts that were not needed plus the additional labor to change the "what they called bad bolts" the camber bolts. After they told me this I said I'm throwing the bullshit flag!!!! They all of a sudden were able to adjust camber. Go figure. Yeah J used to recommend this place. I cannot recommend them any longer. For the past 3 years that I have lived in this area, I have always taken my car here. They always treated my cars with respect and would be honest with me. However, that sadly changed recently. I took my wife's car here for a wheel alignment, change the brake fluid, and basic check-up like tire rotation. My father was a mechanic and I learned how to do many things through him and throughout the years. It all depends on what I want to do will dedicate if/when I will let a mechanic do things. Our cold weather does not help at all. Anyways... back to the car. I got a call from them stating that the driver's front caliper is seized which ate through her brake pads and rotor. Also, her valve cover is broken which leaked out all the oil from her car. I found them a little odd since she hasn't told me of any issues and the last time I drove it, it was fine with the braking. Plus, I would see an oil leak on her car. I declined those services since it would have been over $1000 plus...I know how to do those services myself. Luckily, a few days later, we got some warm weather and I checked out the car myself. The caliper is not seized and does not show any of the usual signs. The brake pads are still showing 6mm with plenty of life. The rotors still look similar to when I checked them a year ago. I tried to find a giant crack on the valve cover but I could not see anything. Plus, if it was leaking that oil as they claimed... I would see oil somewhere in the car which I did not. It was just a normal dirty car. I removed the bottom cover and it was as dirty as I left it a few months ago. Based on my previous history, I will give them the benefit of the doubt because they were honest with me in the past. Plus, they said the mileage was 100,000 which it was not. Maybe they mixed up cars? I do not know. But I even took it to another shop nearby and they said the car looked perfect to them minus the typical 80k recommended services. read more

I have the free tire rotation and alignment package for my car (one time charge, then free). When I have brought it in for a charged service (surprise nothing wrong with car). The package I bought is no charge so surprise at finish time there is a major coolant leak and my wiper sprayers don't work (they did 2 days ago). I'm done. I gave them the benefit of the doubt from the last time they said I needed 2k of work done. I declined that time, this time had no mention of the previous work that was declined (my usual mechanic looked at it and laughed when they read the estimates). read more

I was a regular customer for years and did all my service work including lofrs, tires, and breaks all at this same store in Montgomery, IL. They did not screw the lid on tight enough, and it also leaked on my engine. Long story short, my brakes ended up going out after a while, and I was VERY lucky I was not involved in a collision. These swindling "mechanic" charlatans do NOT have any integrity. What incentive do these people have to NOT mess things up on purpose to create returning customers? What a terrible, disgusting business model. They are liars, cheaters, and thieves. They definitely profile their customers and they WILL mess their work up on purpose if you fit the "sucker" profile. I have taken my car to The Firestone in Montgomery several times. I feel like every time something goes wrong. I had an oil change done there and they damaged the gasket on the oil filter so that it leaked on my engine and I got the low level alarm after a couple days. I had my tires replaced and one of the tires was not balanced correctly, one was over-pressurized, the tire pressure sensor got damaged, and they also gave me someone else's wheel lock socket. I had my rear bearings replaced, they initially gave the wrong wheel lock wrench again, and later that day, one of my rear drum parking brakes came apart while I was driving on the highway because it was not assembled correctly. This last time, I scheduled an appointment for an alignment, a tire balance check, and I wanted them to check the rear drum parking brakes because I was getting a warning light which is probably from the last time they worked on it. Deciding to give them one last chance, I dropped my car off and they called me and said that I was not on the schedule. Thinking that I had called the wrong shop, I told the guy the number I called and he said it was a different location but they would try to get it in, which they didn't. I called the number that I had previously called to tell them about the mistake and to cancel. The phone number went to the same location, so someone just didn't add it to the schedule. Not pushy, but informative helping us make the right tire decision for our SUV. Even found out my rear brakes were metal on metal. I'd like to give a dual thumbs up to Mike at Firestone. My Wife had the engine/undercarriage plastic cover partially come off on her car on the Tollway. It was partially hanging from the bottom of the car and scraping the road. I Called Firestone, as its one of the few places open on Sunday, and Mike said he would put it up on a rack and take a look. They got me in on a Sunday afternoon within 15 mins of arriving at the Shop. The guys there were able to salvage the remaining part of the plastic cover and put some new screws in to make sure it didn't come off. Mike turned a crappy situation on a Sunday afternoon into nothing to worry about. Thank You Mike for going above and beyond. read more

I received a call after dropping off the car telling me that they could not perform the service because there was not enough time. I was offered an appointment "later in the week". I also do not trust them after inspecting my vehicle personally and finding some of their diagnostics to be incorrect. read more

I visited the facility about a week ago for an oil change, installation of new wipers, air cleaner replacement and finally a tire rotation. All seemed to work well EXCEPT the tire rotation! Time and time again I have personally experienced a labor charge by other auto care companies for similar service despite the work NOT being done!! What is it about auto companies cheating customers for simple tire rotations - the greed is unbelievable and unfortunately the majority of customers are unaware that they are being cheated out of a service they are paying for. I sat for one hour staring straight at the mechanic through a clear plastic wall separating customer seating from the open bay mechanic's area. Not once did the mechanic pull out the tires for rotation! However, he was smirking during the simulated process with the pneumatic air gun as it made the sound but I saw no work!! Almost as if I were blind and did not notice! As a result, I questioned his boss and the manager and they both stated the tire rotation happened and that they witnessed the event. I replied, how is that possible as I personally know how to rotate tires but am paying for a service that I did NOT observe to have occurred during the entire wait time. So basically I was lied to by all, which is disappointing. In the end I had the mechanic rotate the tires as I clearly saw the work, this time, being performed. Folks, please be observant when you pay for a service as there are many greedy companies out there and I believe the problem is systemic! read more

I had planned on dropping my car off for the night around 1pm because they weren't sure they would get to my car by the end of the day because it was a busy Saturday. They called me about 4 and said it would be finished by 530pm. My husband was getting done with his class at 6 around the corner so iasked if they would be able to wait 5-10 minutes for him to get over there to pick it up. I feel Firestone( Montgomery) is using deceptive business practices. They sold me 4 tires at $147.99 each. Later at home, I looked at the invoice and saw a charge for $91.64 for "Road Hazard Protection" which was added to the bill. I called them and asked them to credit my $91.64 as I did not want this "insurance." They would not refund my whole amount as they said it was tied in to the price of the tires. So... in other words they gave me a sale price on the tires but sneakily billed me for useless "Road Hazard Protection" insurance for $91.64. They only refunded $34.06 to my account. If you deal with these people, make sure you read the whole 2 page invoice. Buyer beware! read more

they'll replace the parts and if it continues to be a problem they'll swear its something else and won't take in the garage to back up their statement. Like in my case i went to another location and they told me the parts they replaced were defected and did replace with new working parts and besides on phone they will say a price and when you take it in knowing exactly what the problem is they want to do a full exam and scare you in to getting parts you dont need like with my brakes they wanted to charge me close to 500.00 for calibrators both side when they clearly told me one was locked and if it were locked how was it that i drove there and if it were locked when i braked why didn't one side pull. Just becarefull what you get done because my second place told me the calibrators were fine and repalced the brakes. read more
