Very personal and fair. I was Impressed with the service and how strastraightforward and clear these guys were. I spoke with Joe, who handled my car's situations with honesty and transparency. I've been ripped off by mechanics in the past as I'm sure we all have. I was 100 miles+ from home with an urgent timeframe trying to get back there the same day. I brought my car in at 11am, and they had me safely on my way by 4pm without breaking my bank. easily cut the prices of the previous estimate I'd had in half. these guys know their stuff and really showed me that they cared about helping me and my situation rather then just themselves and making a quick buck. if they'd charged me anything less id probably would have tipped them to where I would have paid about the same. There's no place I'd go for auto work, oil changes, etc then Mr Jim's! I've been bringing my automobiles here for over 10 years! I trust the entire team, yes things might take a wheeee bit longer due to being a smaller shop, but it's rare and worth it! A big thank you to Jim, John and Rachel for getting me in and taken care of this past week, a lot of work was needed, they even took care of getting me fitted with all new tires and I'm so happy! Anyone reading this should keep in mind that my review is based on an experience that happened long ago. I just happened to think about it and decided to write a review based on that experience. Hopefully, things have changed at Jim's. If not, I don't know how they could still be in business. I see some other reviews here describe experiences similar to my experience. Being handy and independently minded, I've almost always done my own auto work and just about every other kind of work as well. On the rare occasions when I had someone else do work on my vehicles it was usually in the winter because my shop, which is my garage, is so filled with machines and tools that a car can't fit in it so I have to do my work outside. I found I had a bad tie rod end. The retail cost of the part was about $12 and I could have easily replaced it myself in a couple hours but it was in the winter, if I recall. Very low temperatures and deep snow meant I would have to have someone else do the work so I decided to give Mr. Jim's a try. When I picked up the vehicle and was told the price, I almost had a heart attack. It's been a long time but the charges, if I remember correctly, were just shy of $900 FOR REPLACING A TIE ROD END! He also took it upon himself to replace the serpentine belt as well and overcharge me for that too even though I know it wasn't bad because I check everything out on my vehicles at every oil change and whenever I open the hood. Now, keep in mind that this was a long time ago. That $900 would equate to probably $1,500 or more today. The work done should have cost between $100 and $200. I can't remember how much he charged me for the tie rod end but it was astronomical. As I said, at the time, the retail price for the ball joint was about $12. Jim probably got them for about $6 to $8. Whatever he changed me (I simply can't remember the exact amount) it was many times the retail cost of the part. I mean MANY times the cost. In my opinion, I was simply ripped off and Jim's clearly didn't care that he lost a customer who could have been a regular if they treated me honestly. That was the last time I ever had Jim's do the work, obviously. We didn't have internet review sites to post reviews at the time. I debated whether to post this review or not but, in my opinion, if someone would rip someone off that much long ago, they will probably rip people off today unless Jim's has new owners. It's been my experience that unethical people who take advantage of others don't change over time. It's part of their nature. The price I was charged was so far above what I should have been charged that Jim's had to know that I was aware that I was being ripped off. Apparently they didn't care that they lost a customer. They were only interested in making a fast buck, not gaining a regular customer, in my opinion. Thinking back, the experience I had reminds me of the scene in National Lampoon's Vacation where Chevy Chase is ripped off by mechanics and could do nothing about it. As with Chevy's character in the movie, I couldn't do anything about it until now with this review. Personally, it does give me some satisfaction to write this review even though it's been many years since my experience with Jim's. When you rip people off, it can come back to bite you - as it should. The only place I will have work done now when I don't do it myself is The Car Clinic on Batavia Rd. in Warrenville. I couldn't be happier with them. They're honest, take the time to explain options and their prices are fair. In fact, they're so good that I find myself having them do work that in the past I would have done myself. For those looking for a good auto repair place in Warrenville, I would also avoid Voegtle's. They were very good when the father ran the business but he retired many years ago and the business went downhill after that and the son who runs the business is greedy, in my opinion. My tire was going flat fast on 88 on my way home from work... I stopped in at the nearest place which happened to be Mr. Jims. Jim was very friendly and even though it was late in the day and they were shorthanded they took care of me. Great, friendly service. read more

When there is an issue, how a company handles things makes a difference. I thought there was a problem with the work, but Keith @ Mr. Jim's gave me a loaner car to use while they spent lots of extra time diagnosing and correcting an issue that, as it turned out, had nothing to do with the work they did. Keith at the front desk was super helpful when I had a "no start" car situation. I reactivated my AAA membership and was expecting a tow and big repair bill. The AAA service call got my car started, after sitting in the cold weather, it wasn't too happy. Got the car into Mr. Jim's and they scoped it out for me. No problems evident after they put it on the diagnostic machine. Been running fine and no repair bill! They also addressed the hood latch that I could not close, I was in and out in no time. Total Rip Off!! Brought in my car for a diagnosis on a Friday. Was told it would be done the next day. I drove by a few times while in the area and seen that my car has not even moved from the spot I left it at. They kept my car till Monday night. When I finally got the diagnosis, I took it to another shop for repair and was told that the diagnosis was incorrect. Mr. Jim's wanted to charge me $2200 for fixing something that was not even in need of repair while I ended up fixing my car elsewhere for a fraction of the price. On top of all that, they refuse to refund my money for the misdiagnosis ($140). I provided paperwork of the repair and diagnosis from the other mechanic, and after numerous calls regarding the issue, Mr. Jim's would not return the calls. They should a least have the decency to admit their mistake. Do not go here they will only rip you off (especially if you are a female). The place is a sham. read more

Mr Jims has always been my car repair center of choice. Keith at the front desk has been nothing but 100% professional and courteous and is the "face" of the organization. He has gone above and beyond to earn my business. I have found that sometimes things have sometimes taken longer, but I've always gotten the feeling that they care about the customer and their cars. The fact they are so busy...is a measure of their success. No car rental service, but thats my fault not theirs. As such I can give nothing else but a 5 star rating. Well earned. I fix my car at some other places and hand to keep bringing it back. Jims is a little higher price ,but you pay for what you get. Love them

The biggest lying automechanics I have ever met. The exhaust pipe My daughter's car broke (rusted out) at flange joint . AAA towed her car to Mr. Jim,s. They informed us that the catalytic converter and O2 sensors were ripped off, parts $1500.00 + labor. smart daughter had taken a photo of the broken pipe before it was towed. clean break and NO damage to the catalytic converter!!!! i walked into the storage yard and guess what? Catalytic converter ok, O2 sensors ok, back half of pipe badly bent. they still insisted it was all damaged. They pointed to the intact undamaged undented catalytic converter and said it was destroyed. and the forward O2 sensor was ripped loose (the dummy did not know where the forward O2 sensor is located on that car.. is right after the exhaust manifold.....it was intact.) I told them they were all d--n liars, don't touch my car I will be back for it. Took it tor an honest mechanic. $260.00, new pipes and muffler and on my way. If you are a fool with money to waste and enjoy being lied to go to Mr. Jim's Every man and woman should learn something about cars and not to trust sweet nice talking con-artist$$$. read more

Pretty happy with my experience overall. I thought they did a good job and did in in the amount of time that they told me. Their labor rates were pretty standard. The only drawback was that I thought their parts prices were a little high. I can by the same part (with the same warranty) at Autozone for about 60% of what the part cost through Mr. Jim's. However, this is typical of most automotive shops. They have to make a living too. Overall, I would recommend them and I will use them again in the future. read more

Honestly everytime I come into Jims with an issue, I feel that they don't over charge me and genuinely want to help. I'm also a female and I feel they don't try to tell me I have another issue to get more money out of me. I called to get a ballpark estimate on replacing seat bushings in my 2000 Z3. Keith came back about $200 less than the dealership. Took my car in and they met every expectation, and timeline. Better still, the bill was $80 less than the estimate! Very knowledgeable, very patient, explained everything and made sure I was satisfied with the result.
