The Irish accent yard worker walked up to my vehicle to ask how he can help and suggested a certain kind of wood for campfire. Pros: -Beautiful location -Pick and choose your own wood -No haggle, just load, pay and leave -Very friendly staff -Clean, seasoned, hot burning firewood -Local small business Con: -Very over priced: I have a short box Silverado (62.9 cubic feet). I have a bed cover with a canister so I don't get to entirely fill up my truck bed, but I had a full load of seasoned almond wood. Similar load of almond in the Modesto area is roughly $150 to $180 max. I was expecting the Bay Area mark up, but after I loaded I learned they charge $8 a cubic foot! $8 a cubic foot to pick and load your own wood. I was charged $392 for not even half a chord of wood. Although I was shocked, I just paid it. It was 100% my fault for not asking how much before I loaded my truck. Rookie move. In comparison, you can have an entire chord of almond wood delivered to your driveway, all you gotta do is stack it, for $500 to $550 max. A chord of wood is 128 cubic feet. With the math at Firewood Farms, that will cost you $1,024.00! Or, you can make the drive to the Central Valley area and buy from a local farm there. They will help you load it for half the price or even less than that. Firewood Farms, in my opinion, is taking advantage of their location and all the millionaires that live in the surrounding areas. One would only believe the prices here are "good" or "reasonable" if you didn't know any better. If money doesn't matter to you, then this is the place to buy from for the location and experience. read more

We were low on wood and, based on all the Yelp love, we decided to give Firewood Farms a shot. Their seasoned almond firewood prices were reasonable, and we were fortunate that they had a delivery opening for the next day. We live out in the Santa Cruz mountains on a windy, one-land road that sometimes puts off flatlanders; and truth be told, the last time we ordered wood from a different place, they tried to upcharge us to deliver to our house once they saw our road in person. Thankfully, the person I spoke to at Firewood Farms said that, compared to the wiggly dirt road she lives on, our gravel road sounded like "the suburbs," and their team easily and efficiently made the delivery. Now we are good on wood for the next couple of years. When we run out, we will be calling these folks back. read more

It was a cold and rainy afternoon when I called Firewood Farms inquiring about almond wood for sale. They had it. I communicated I was driving 45 minutes and due to arrive 20 minutes before closing. No problem they said. When I was 5 minutes away, the cars in front of me came to a complete stop. Unfortunately for someone ahead of me, a truck had flipped over and landed on top of their car. Luckily everyone involved was o.k. BUT gridlock ensued for the next 40 minutes. I was only .75 miles away. I eventually arrived after closing time. Tracy was understanding and went out of her way to assist me. I backed up to a very organized and clean stack of almond wood. I loaded quickly. I felt like I was visiting a friendly neighbor. How nice to diffuse my stress with kindness. I'm sure they are all wonderful people. I can't afford to buy firewood from them at $7 a cubic foot. Let's see...a cord is 128 cubic feet x $7 is $896 for a cord of fire wood. Maybe they are selling to people who want one campfire once, in a box a person can fit in a small car; or to persons who want them for wedding decorations. The manager Caroline is personable and has reasonable rates for a quarter cord of wood good almond tree wood that cost 276 dollars flat. They were under another manager that treated people condescendingly before but they are good now. I'm pleased they come in a truck that says Firewood Farms on it two men come they tilt the back down and empty the amount of wood they sold you onto your driveway. Cash and check is accepted and a surcharge of 4% is applied to credit card payments. I brought cash. I brought a hand truck to get the wood into my garage from my driveway several pieces which seem to be cut from the tree's trunk were big and heavy and there were several pieces that were round and somewhat smaller which seemed to be the branches. I will be burning the wood soon in my fire pit. I would this company and will most likely call back for more wood in a few months. read more

I've been buying cordwood in SM County for 30+ years, the 5 most recent times from Firewood Farms. Every time I've been delivered high quality seasoned wood and never have I been shorted. This time I loaded a newly-built rick with 1/2 a cord of oak and after careful stacking I ended up with 72 cubic feet -- 8 over a 1/2 cord. Now maybe I didn't stack it as tightly as possible, but I guess their philosophy is to err a little on the over side. I'm fine with that. read more

Very helpful staff. We go every winter to collect some firewood. This past winter has been really hard with all the storms and constant rain! We buy our firewood here. Usually the almond sometimes the oak. It's been here for a long time and is currently owned by a coast side family. They also have beautiful wood here and can make amazing products like tabletops. There's been times when I've watched as they cut large trees with gigantic equipment. The name of this business is perfect. It is a farm stacked with a ton of firewood. We were driving around Half Moon Bay looking to buy firewood at a nursery and came across Firewood Farms. Its sorta hard to find but its basically right next to the place with the dinosaurs. The owner sits in a shack with like 10 kitties and was very nice to my kids. This is a self serve place so empty your trunk out or bring a truck. You pull up to the pile and load it yourself, so bring gloves. The owner comes out measures your stack and then tells you how much. Last we went we paid $3.50 a cubic foot, but I'm sure this price fluctuates. The wood is stacked outside so if it rains, the wood gets wet. We went right after a storm, so our wood was a bit wet. All in all the price is good and its a fun trip. He does deliver but I did not inquire on the pricing. read more

Not only is their firewood crap the owner becomes extremely belligerent and obnoxious when complaints are made, especially when no one else is around. They have a long history of blaming their customers for their bad products and trying to convince them that they are somehow at fault. Their sad MO is to literally scream at you about your attitude, call you rude and disrespectful, if you take issue with their inferior product or lies. Classic gaslighting and horrendous business ethics all around. I have never experienced such epically repulsive customer service my entire life. The audacity and nerve of this company is actually astonishing when you can't imagine treating strangers the way they do, let alone paying customers. You can read their responses to negative reviews as evidence. They hate their customers and community. Don't be fooled with how super nice they seem at first. Once they make the sale and have your money they basically turn into different people. They have no shame in selling wet, moldy, mud caked, unburnable 45% moisture content firewood when dry quality firewood is promised. If you don't like it or being lied to they will do everything not to be accountable or have integrity, even as far as to outright insult and try to bully you. The ability to reason is out of the question. They have to implement the refund policy they do, which essentially says... we get to sell you junk and too bad... bc they would've been out of business by now if they didn't. Too bad they choose not to apply their energy into protecting, honestly testing, caring, and maintaing their firewood. It would be easier than selling garbage then ranting in manipulative circles when called out for it. We should all be reporting these people for their deceitful sales and abhorrent mistreatment of their customers. read more

I choose one and he made the most beautiful desk for me I have ever seen. Not only is it gorgeous, it is one of a kind. Working with James was easy and a good experience. He is super friendly, very customer oriented...he has a "can do" attitude which is terrific. As a new owner he is really working hard to grow his business, and he knows customers are number one. I called on the phone to order firewood to be delivered and the woman on the phone told me it would be easier to order online, so I placed an order online. After 2 days we heard nothing so I called to check when I was a scheduled for a delivery. I left a message and did not hear back. My wife called back the next day and got ahold of Sean who is apparently the owner. Sean could not find our order. After several phone calls asking how I paid, last 4 of the credit card he finally found the order. He then proceeded to berate my wife because i told her I paid with a credit card which I did but I forgot it was thru PayPal. So Sean blames us because he could not find the order. If I place an order and have to call you back to get it filled that's your bad. If you cant track your orders your business model is poor. His customer service was non existant, Sean told me not to call him back and I won't. read more
