Hillerman's Firewood - what a great dependable family business! I have been a loyal customer for 6 years now. 10 stars from this client! Their well-seasoned almond wood is nicely split and consistently very clean; never caked in mud or debris, and cut uniformly for super symmetrical stacking. I discovered them circa 2019 when I had a stainless-steel liner installed in my chimney for worry-free hardwood heating with my Buck Stove insert. I had called and left a message which was promptly returned by Laura with a very reasonable quote for split, seasoned and DELIVERED almond firewood, and a delivery date within the week. Laura called the day before delivery to confirm the time, and Mark and his assistant arrived right on schedule at 0'Dark:30 to dump my cord of wood as close to my wood storage as possible. This made it SO easy for me to stack it by transferring it with just a few steps, no wheelbarrow needed. Mark's skills at backing into a tight space with close attention to the eaves of the house and overhead wires was absolutely amazing! And the perfectly cut wood in his truck was stacked so tightly and precisely in rows that there was clearly no shortage to my order. This has been my experience every single year since then. Ordered from them last year, but won't be this year. They claim it's all seasoned wood, but I can only report my experience. It could not have been. It would never start easily. It was so difficult having a fire every time. We switched to some true seasoned wood and the difference was amazing! They were very friendly and delivery was prompt and easy. My family has been buying firewood from Hillerman's for many years. They are simply the BEST value for Firewood in the Bay Area. We usually order (already split) Almond which burns really well as it is usually a year old by the time Hillerman's sells it. They deliver it for no extra charge and keep their prices low, which I can't say for their competitors. This is the one cord I bought from Hillerman's at an expensive amount of $460 but to my amazement it wasn't 4 x 4 x 8. It was actually, 3.6 x 3.3 x 8. So disappointed in this company. We called them almost 6 weeks ago now trying to get a delivery. The first date we had scheduled with them, they didn't show up. This was after waiting 3 weeks for their first available day to deliver. Then, they gave us another date, again waiting 2 1/2 weeks, and again they didn't show up. We waited all day for them and they wouldn't even call us back. This was a complete waste of our time. I have been using Hillerman's firewood since I moved to the Bay Area in 2010. They deliver well seasoned wood and are fair and honest with what a cord dimensions are. To anyone that writes a review that they do not answer their phones, they are an almond growing family first and foremost. They work very long hours and do get back to you. Ordered a cord and a half, what I got was a little over a cord and not even that as the length of the wood is 14" long and any piece over 4" round has been split in half, it's more like kindling than firewood 99% was like that. If you want to start a fire in a fire place it's good for that easy to start and burns fast, wood stoves you're feeding the fire every half hour. read more

Expensive! The wood burns well but fast, we got mostly small pieces, burns hot but we need to keep feeding the fire to keep it going. The almond wood with some big oak piece would be good, but they only sell almond. Delivery is spotty, ordered from them the past five years, three times they changed delivery day. I'm pleased with my experience with Hillerman's. Laura was prompt in returning my initial call and we worked to find a convenient delivery date. 12 hours before my scheduled delivery I called and asked about a larger delivery and she was able to accommodate - amazing on short notice! I didn't get a chance to interact much with Mark, but I'll say he seems to be a happy business owner. I say that because he was dropping off wood early - really early ...4:50am early!!! - and he had a huge smile on his face. The best part of the whole buying experience is that the wood appears to be ready to burn. I've used other vendors for oak and oak/almond mixes and most of the time it needs a few months to season before burning. Just had a very strange experience with this company that still has me shaking mad almost an hour later. I wanted them to stack the wood and was happy/willing to pay more for that. Apparently there was a miscommunication because I now know that they don't stack wood at all because the truck is too expensive to leave idle. Unfortunately I have a bad back and can't stack it myself. Also unfortunately, they had been sitting in horrible Bay Area traffic on 101 for over an hour trying to get up to me and deliver (I was the only one outside their normal delivery range for the day, but I never knew this until they told me in my driveway). This is where is got really strange. The older gentleman implied that I was weak for not being able to stack my own firewood. He said that the only way he would stack was if I were 95 years old (or a professional baseball player who could give an autograph-----WTF?). He said that he was my age and he went to the gym 2x per day so he could stay healthy and still take his grandson to Disney-----again, WTF?). That's when his daughter took over. As I was helping them (bad back and all) put some wood back into their truck, she felt that I invaded her personal space and went into defensive posture saying "go ahead, put your hands on me, see what happens." At this point I was genuinely afraid of her. She went on a tirade of abuse (all captured on video) screaming very bad things at me laced with some of the best profanity I've heard in a while. Unfortunately my neighbors heard it too and came out to see. As a parting blow from inside the truck pulling out of my driveway, she leaned out the window and screamed at the top of her lungs multiple times, "GOODBYE P#SSY" as they drove down my street. Literally shaking in my boots, I wasn't sure whether to call the police or write Yelp. I decided to call the very nice lady (turns out to be Mrs. Hillerman) that I had spoken with on the phone several times. She actually helped me calm down and she said all the right things--and I'm sure she meant them. So I'm not sure what to do from here, but I thought I'd start with this. read more

Give her my credit card number to pay in advance. Get a phone call 5 minutes ago that my order would not be here until 10AM. Not good. You already gave me a window and you need to honor your commitment. She hangs up on me while her husband is in the background yelling. Good ethics and staying behind your word is hard to come by.
