If I could give more than 5 stars, I would! Mr. Le and his team at First Choice Landscape and Design absolutely blew us away with the transformation of our backyard. Honestly, I'd give 6/5 stars for the work and service and experience of working with Khang for our extensive backyard renovation. We had what I thought was a hopeless backyard and the first quote we received was extremely expensive (and didn't even touch upon all our concerns like the drainage issue). We discovered Khang and transformed our backyard into a safe, functional, and beautiful space for our family and friends to enjoy! This included addition of composite decking, pavers, artificial turf, decomposed granite, steps, retaining walls/ planters and the invisible work of correcting our major drainage issues. I can certainly tell he takes personal pride in his work and is organized and clean about his work (we have used various other services and I'm never surprised to find trash or a mess to clean up afterwards). Khang is awesome! He did an amazing job with our backyard and helped us develop a vision for it and suggested things we didn't even know to do. He takes a lot of pride in his work, taking no shortcuts and precise as can be. For example, he did a beautiful job of following the existing retaining wall with a curve in the borders of the pavers. Also, around the water pipes from the ground he made a perfect cut in the paver that looks almost press fit (see pictures). In addition, the fence he put up he suggested to replace it with a 2 x 6 poles (similar to the rest of the fence). He then matched the top of the 2 x 6's with 4 beveled edges to match the rest of the fence! This attention to detail was all done without me having to ask him to do it, it just seems in his nature to do high quality work. When he finished the backyard work, I mentioned to him about a small shed I wanted to place above the retaining wall. He helped me move it and level the ground so that it fit perfectly and was stable with him cutting a couple 2x4's across and ribar behind it to stabilize! it took him about 15 min of leveling and re-leveling to make sure it was perfect. He just did it and asked for no extra payment. Khang also finished in the time frame he promised. His price was competitive with the other 3 obtained but his work was worth much more I believe than I paid! I feel very lucky and fortunate that we chose him to do our work. I was referred to Mr. Khang Le of First Choice Landscape by the designer that created my landscape plan, who said he did high-quality work and was reasonably priced. She was right! We couldn't be happier with the new landscaping in our backyard and side yard. Although our space is not super large, the plan was quite complex, including removing a sidewalk and adding several "dry creek bed" areas with 3 different kinds of rock, 3 berms with mulch and plants, drip irrigation, lighting, and a pondless fountain. I really wanted a natural look, and Mr. Le got what I was trying to achieve. When my dreams were a bit bigger than my budget, Mr. Le collaborated with me to suggest ways of reducing cost without compromising the look I was going for. We eliminated some low walls, used a paver kit instead of more labor-intensive pavers, and I ordered the lights from the manufacturer's website. I was not the easiest client. I had been planning the project for more than a year and had never hired anyone to do this kind of work before, so I was stressed out about it all turning out as I had envisioned. Mr. Le would say, "Don't worry," and he was right, I needn't have worried. He has 3 decades of experience to draw on and has a great eye for design. He implemented the plan flawlessly and with attention to detail, often getting out his tape measure to be sure things were properly placed. He didn't cut corners where others might have. For example, he put weed barrier landscape fabric under the entire yard. Mr. Le is a really hard worker who goes the extra mile to please the client. When my plan called for a hard-to-find tree, he went to great lengths to find a grower that had it. When the paver kit didn't fit together as precisely as he wanted, he cut some of the pavers himself for a better fit. He is punctual, honest, and reliable. You can expect many delays, many excuses and next to no communication from this company. And once they do finally finish the work, when it falls apart in less than six months, they will not respond to fix it. This is our second project with Khang. The first was a lawn and irrigation install 8 years ago. It is still the best looking lawn in the neighborhood due to his turf selection, soil amendments and irrigation design. His sprinkler design works great with very little overspray and great coverage. This time he did another section of plantings with irrigation and ground cover, install of of 4 15 gallon trees and flagstone install. And it was during the last heat wave of 100+ degrees. Again a fantastic job. I learned to listen to his suggestions when we did the first job and loved the partnership. Mr. Khang Le gave us exactly what we requested. We needed someone to help us do a simple but functional landscape for the backyard and parts of the front yard. Mr. Le provided us with some great input and helped simplify our decisions by having photos of previous jobs that had similar material that we were looking for in our yard. Mr. Le is a very hard working and reliable man. After buying a new home, the only thing I had in my backyard was a patio and lots and lots of dirt. I gave Khang a very rough idea of what I wanted and he really made it come to life, improving on my ideas and making suggestions that have been great. He found that the sprinkler system installed by the builder was inadequate for the amount of lawn that I wanted so he re-designed and installed a bigger and better system. He helped me in choosing plants as all that I knew I wanted was flowering bushes with certain colors. Last summer, after I read all the 5-star review by many clients, I decided to have Mr Le of First Choice Landscape Construction to demo the front yard landscaping and redo the whole front. He did an excellent job on the stamped concrete path, so good that the whole street families admire it. He has a good working crews that were so diligent working through the hot summer hours and did such a good job in preparing the soil for new sod and planting specimen-size trees. I just cannot ask for more. Mr Le's pricing is about half of what other bidders asked, and yet Mr. Le's work is the best. I knew it because I am an architect and can tell good details from the ordinary. I'll have him do the backyard landscaping next year. We bought a new house and were looking at doing our backyard. Fairly big project, so naturally we wanted to get this right. Looking at the glowing reviews First Choice has, we decided to go with them. I called Mr Le and he promptly showed up on time. I had a good first impression. Little did I know it would stop there! We had given a lot of thought as to how we wanted our back yard done. Complete to the point that we had a ToScale drawing in AutoCAD. I showed this to Mc Le when he was onsite. He looked at it and started to pick it apart. I gave the benefit of the doubt to the guy, since he had 15 years in the business. I am thinking, maybe he knows what he is talking about. He spent an hr, took 3 calls during that time, did not measure anything, and left with the drawing saying he will get back to me with a quote. I am still thinking - maybe he knows what he is talking about - 5star rating on yelp. I get a call from the guy in a few days and he says - Its going to cost X. The number was not took high nor too low. Standard market price. So I asked him, can I get a formal quote, a break down, a proposal as to what is included in the cost and what is not. THAT WAS IT! Mr Le started shouting on the phone - You guys, I know you. You use these tricks to bring down the price. I don't have time for these things. In fact I am booked for the rest of the year. EXCUSE ME! WHY WAS I NOT TOLD THAT BEFORE! I spent an hr with the guy in my backyard. Spent time with him on the phone a few times and through my interaction, I was patient, kept giving him the benefit of the doubt. First Choice recently worked in my backyard. They laid a gravel path and area around our fire pit, a foundation for my greenhouse, and new sod in the yard. They also put in a sprinkler system and edging. They were spot-on from the start. The owner showed up on time for our appointment and gave us an immediate estimate. He began work a couple of days later. He and his team showed up when they said they would and worked hard. The entire project was done in less than a week... ahead of our deadline. And right on the estimate. There were no surprises. Also, with very little guidance, he did EXACTLY what we wanted. He anticipated even the small items... like creating a large enough area around our fire pit for chairs. He also extended the sprinkler system over to our vegetable garden so that I can now easily add a drip line. I did not ask for this, but he did it on his own accord. I had some work done by Mr. Le and initially was really happy with the work. But my grass died in less than 6 months and was later found the right soil foundation was not laid. Mr. Le gave me countless options to "fix" the issue, but when none of them worked, he went silent on me. After continued follow up, he finally came by and agreed to a plan to fix the issue. I was pleased with the resolution and even decided to refer another job to Mr. Le. . . I wish I would have waited, because my yard is Still not fixed and He seems uninterested in keeping his word and fixing the issue. I would agree with the other reviews that he does quality work -- some of the best. But none of that matters if he's not willing to honor his word and fix things should they go wrong. Mr. Le did a complete remodel on our, front, sides and back yard. I would consider it an extensive project. The remodel included demolition of retired landscaping, including concrete, retaining walls and foliage. Installing new underground drainage, stamped colored concrete stairs and flat work, cmu walls with stack stone veneer, patio paver system, aluminum pergola, new irrigation and sod. Mr. Le went beyond our expectations with regard to ideas, knowledge of profession, professionalism and finished product. His price was fair and his crew represented him well. My backyard was a jungle, full of weeds, and we had not done any previous landscaping work. For 3 months I tried working with other landscapers but they either didn't call me back or did not reply to my emails timely. I felt like I was begging for them to help fix my yard. After seeing his website and reviews I decided to go with Khang. I'm glad I did. Khang told me he could start in a week and next thing you know on 7am on Monday I saw him and his crew in my backyard chopping down my forest. Within one day he cleared all the weeds. Khang did our whole backyard, which included a patio made of pavers, a seat wall, retaining wall, stairs, sprinklers and drip system, grass, and planted 3 crepe mertyles and lots of plants. He even fixed my fence and my side door for free. Khang was out there with the crew on most days doing all the hard work and heavy lifting. He made sure to bring us to the showrooms so that we can select the exact color pavers we wanted, and he always gave us samples to choose from.
