First off, ignore the negative 1-star reviews. Most of them are for the old owner of the clinic and not Dr. Janecek (who is terrific). Dr. Janecek and her team are some of the compassionate and caring vets I've ever met and been to. My dog unfortunately had a medical emergency and passed. The clinic was able to accommodate me before they even opened, attended to my dog with non-stop care and love, and allowed me to be present and grieve during the most difficult time. During such a difficult day, she and her team went above and beyond and provided a lot of comfort that I needed and appreciated. Aside from the emergency, I've taken my dog to this vet numerous times and they've been able to take care of him quickly and efficiently. I will be bringing my future pets to this clinic and highly recommend them to anyone. The clinic is also very fairly priced and everyone at the clinic is incredibly helpful. Thank you for taking care of Junior and giving him comfort during his last moments. I'll forever be grateful for that. read more

I been with Dr Woodly for over 13 to 15 years and was happy with his services but the new Dr I can probably google and learn how to treat my dogs the same . We been there twice and she doesn't have the experience to tell us what's wrong with my bigger dog but just prescribed a bunch of medicines for antibiotics. This place was awesome. Came in to get my cat checked out for his basically life-long urinary issues and they diagnosed something no other vet had been able to. They also treated him like royalty!! From the second we walked in they were SO excited to see him. You can just tell everyone there loves animals with how loving and sweet they were with my boy. It was a wonderful experience all around. We've been going to this vet clinic for many years and have had 3 dogs through them (one large and two small). I have to say Dr. Woodley started off fine, though he was pretty rough with handling the dogs. However, recently, we could see a huge decline in his treatment of the dogs and the upkeep of the office. The place is definitely extremely outdated and a bit dirty, often you would find previous dog nail clippings or clumps of hair in each examination room. Also, Dr. Woodley himself seems to have gotten extremely scatterbrained and has gotten way too rough on the dogs. He just doesn't seem to care about the dogs nor the owners. We recently brought our dog in to get examined for a limping foot and he was so rough on him and did not even know what my dog's name nor gender was. He also insulted my immigrant parent who was the one who brought my dog in for a check up, asking her why her english was so bad and if she recently moved to the United States. FYI she has been living in the US for over 25 years and her english is better than most! After all of this and having a recent scare through a reaction with a shot and how the Dr. Woodley handled everything, we have decided to pull all of our dogs from the vet and moved to a different clinic. Overall, Dr. Woodley's has gone way down hill and I would not recommend nor trust this vet to treat my dogs or any other pet ever again and I would recommend you look somewhere else too. read more

This is a little out of the ordinary. I became the Lead Technician at FCVC 1 year ago when Dr. Janecek purchased the practice. We have discontinued so many practices and implemented wonderful, new, updated protocols. No muzzles, no scruffing, sitting on the floor with the pets. Total transparency. I would not be a part of FCVC if I didn't believe in what we are moving towards. A family environment that your pet looks forward to visiting, great medicine, competitive pricing and a genuinely kind and knowledgeable staff. Wonderful!!! My dog has seizures and after the mobile vet unit was unable to treat her anymore, I called First Colony Veterinary and they were so helpful! They came to my home and treated my dog as if she was their own. My dog did not have seizures like she always does, and she felt totally relaxed. We recently started going to this clinic after losing our last cat. The last vet we had was negligent and never noticed that my two year old cat had cancer until it was too late (this was after multiple visits with no explanation on why he was sick). We got a new kitten and decided to take him here after hearing great reviews from members in our family. Upon having the kitten for one week, we noticed him getting really sick. We were in and out of the office constantly within the first week of having him, and Dr. Woodley and his daughter were amazing! All of this happened during COVID, and we were unable to get to a specialist so they called and ran every test the specialist told Them to run. They went above and beyond to make sure that our new kitten was healthy. This was the best experience I've had at a vet, and will be transferring my other cats care to this vet. read more

Do not trust with your animals! We have been going to this dr for years and he was good. Over the last 2 to 3 years his office and his staff especially have gone downhill! They actually yelled at my dogs for barking. He was extremely rude and his front office help were unprofessional, incompetent and unkind to animals! We have taken all of our dogs to see Dr. Woodley. Our first dog, Maggie, was 19 when she went to Rainbow Bridge. Dr. Woodley was so good with her. Our other three dogs, Reba, Tippy and Lexi, all received excellent care at First Colony Vet. The ladies at the front desk have always been happy and glad to see our fur babies. My family have been patrons of Dr. George Woodley (owner) and Dr. Helen Knox since the early 1990's. They always provide honest, caring and quick service. The Vets are two very different individuals with a common bond of loving animals. Dr. Woodley is a respect community leader. He has seen Sugar Land grow up and he always seeks to help out neighborhood kids in giving them a job they can be proud of. After years of bringing our animals to Dr. Woodley (as with most his staff) he offered me a job which I kept for 5 1/2 years. He treats his employees like family and is one of the few vets who offered insurance, IRA's, and discounted services to employees. To his clients, he is the quintessential good ole' boy, who is always going and always funny. He does all the surgeries at the clinic and makes sure he does them, quickly as to speed up recovery time. Dr. Knox is one of the most respected Vets in the area, always being called on to consult in other clinics veterinary cases. She works the best with unruly cats. My Lucky being one of them (she doesn't even hiss at Dr. Knox anymore). She is a brutally honest person who has no tolerance for not following instruction...and she lets you know it. some people are offended by that, but I think its one of her best qualities. She tells you what you need to hear, not what would be the best to hear in your interest, because she is out to help your pet first and then you in the process. The rest of the staff are very friendly. Kim, the office manager, can often be seen helping the doctors. Pam is a fixture at the front desk and always has a way to brighten your day. The groomers, Pat and Tammy, are seldom seen, but you know when you get your pet back from grooming that they've truly cared for your pet. This clinic is full service, meaning the offer vet services, surgery, x-rays, grooming, day stays and boarding. It is one of the most affordable places in town. I'm so disappointed in leaving such a bad review because I saw all the great reviews of this place on Google. I just moved to Houston and was looking to establish care for my cat. I called around several Veterinary Clinics and the person I spoke with seemed reassuring. I wanted my cat's nails trimmed so she told me I can come in whenever during business hours. They open at 7am so I showed up at 8:30am and I've never felt more unwelcome at any establishment before. Two women at the front desk were glaring at me. No hellos, good mornings or greeting of any kind. There was an old guy in scrubs just standing and silently watching me from the corner. I told one woman at the front desk I sent my cat's records from a previous clinic in Nevada. She was confused and angry at whoever told me to show up. She seemed so offended that I was even there. Maybe it was too early in the morning for her, maybe it was my cat but she was in a carrier, maybe she was just upset but I've never had a more belittling, demeaning conversation with a front desk attendant. I never met the veterinarian so I can't speak to him or her but the staff was just... Rude. The woman trimmed my cat's claws begrudgingly but it was in another room so I hope she treated her well but I can't say. Based on how she treated me, it's easy to surmise that her miserable, cold attitude would be transferred to my cat. Thankfully I didn't notice any bleeding from my cat's claws but I can't in good conscience come back here. I just didn't feel welcome, as if they didn't want me there. If anything serious were to happen to my cat, there's not a snowball's chance in hell I would bring her here. My previous vet in Vegas was so compassionate, calm, friendly and had a stellar staff who would explain everything so well. This was the polar opposite. read more

Don't try to ask this vet any questions...He will shut down immediately, he's not gonna make u feel comfortable either so forget ab that as well, he was knowledgeable, just very abrasive and no bedside manner whatsoever, he did make sure to let me kno everything that is going on with my dog while in his care tho, will see how the recovery goes... oh and as soon as I go in they are going to add everything possible to the bill, so now I'm definitely in a hole, and anything you explained over the phone before you get there, they aren't going to remember or write any of tht down lol so just FYI read more

My puppy saw Dr. Woolley at the beginning of the year for ear issue. While he had great explanation on the why it was happening his demeanor was HORRIBLE and the manner in which he handled my puppy was rough to watch. I should have gone with my gut feel and NOT called today,but thought his daughter would be the vet I would be talking to. He called me back and was impatient and rude. No empathy whatsoever for my puppy. When I would try to answer his questions, he cut me off and ultimately told me to call another vet to help me and hung up on me! SO UNPROFESSIONAL! Just took my new puppy for her first vet visit. The whole staff and doctor were so friendly. The doctor was so informative and took his time explaining the process of vaccinations and their purpose. Even suggested giving the vaccine first thing during the visit to see if she had any reactions. read more

Recently I've been questioning Dr woodleys credibility. As a vet when you do work ups on a dog, shouldn't you look at their eyes? If Dr Woodley did proper exams on my dog he would've seen she has cataracts. Not to mention I've taken her in for ear infections multiple times saying the medications not working. He then questions me as the owner. I take my dog to a new vet and come to find out there's so much ear wax the vet couldn't even see her eardrum and the medication wasn't able to penetrate the wax and actually work. If Dr. woodley was actually doing his job wouldn't he have caught this? Dr. Woodley has been doing this for a long time but that doesn't mean he's up to date on his practice. Amount of experience doesn't mean he's a good vet. He ignored me and my dogs symptoms and my dog has been suffering. Do not recommend and will be taken my dogs (clients of his for years) to another vet. read more

If this would allow zero stars, that would have been my selection. I don't even live in SL anymore but recently remembered all the traumatic experiences from the staff and vets at this clinic-going as a child with my mom and growing up going to all the visits. I have to share because people need to be informed before spending their hard earned money at a place like this. We had all our pets go here for 17+ years and I didn't know how awful this clinic and staff really were until I've gotten older and had pets of my own. When you experience great veterinary care, you realize what you had before was definitely not that. Their bedside manner is piss poor- very outdated and not updated on the nuances of modern day veterinary practices. They will gaslight you until you walk out of the visit feeling really guilty for "not knowing". Thank goodness for a new generation of younger, kind and woke professionals who are taking care of this community and their pets. read more

This Vet provides good service and I've been taking my dog to them for more than 7 years; however, I chose to give a low rating due to the fact that they will refuse to give you a prescription for medication that can be bought much cheaper elsewhere. This includes simple heartworm medication such as Trifexis. In my opinion, this is a scam and an attempt to force you to purchase from their marked-up inventory. read more

I have been going to this clinic for 20 years, and I just put down my 11 year old dog 2 weeks ago. Dr. Woodley was the primary vet for both my dogs. Unfortunately he was not there when we put our dog down. I would have given him 5 stars but did not because he did not call and speak to us after our dog's death even after calling and mentioning it to Kimberly their admin staff. I do not know the reason why until this to this date. I think this is not professional courtesy. Great dog care. I have used Dr. Woodley for 30 years and he has always been super good with my pets. We just had one of our dogs teeth cleaned. They had to pull 13 teeth during the cleaning. Dr. Woodley did a beautiful job. My Abby was back to normal the next day, feeling great and jumping around and eating like crazy. Thank you Dr. Woodley. read more
