I went in to get a DOT physical, and everything was going good until the dr came in and I didn't have a copy of my cpap sleep report. He was incredibly rude at that point, and he was beyond unprofessional, to the point where his own staff had restrain him, tell him to calm down, and walk away. I had heard he was quick and easy, in and out in 20 minutes, but after this I will never go back. If he would have mentioned needing to bring in any documentation, I could have been prepared. Normally, I use Kaiser and they have all of my info on hand. Unfortunately for me, procrastination left with needing to get a DOT exam by the next day. read more

I am so thankful for First Health Clinic! My son caught strep throat while at Science Camp, and it literally was a domino effect and the whole family caught it one by one. We came here and the doctor is professional, quick and efficient! I waited no longer than half an hour each time which is normal at an urgent care. He sends the prescription directly to the pharmacy so it saves me a trip. He is honest and straight forward, but also funny and relatable. First Health Clinic is a great urgent care facility that provided me wonderful service, care, and a high level of professionalism. The receptionist was very sweet and made the check in process easy. I only waited a few minutes for my appointment as well. Dr. Nguyen is such a great doctor and was able to pinpoint that I had a muscle tendon strain and was very clear in its treatment. He even showed me a diagram of the muscles and explained what was happening to mine. He recommended a knee brace and some anti inflammatory pain killers. GA Pilots, *this* is where to get your Basic Med done in San Jose! Dr. Nguyen understands the form and the exam in addition to being board certified. It is a quarter of the price of an Aviation Medical Exam and lasts for 4 years whereas the AME is 2 years. I was able to get a same day appointment and just brought the Basic Med form with me with my parts pre-filled. Went here for a UTI and had to pay $120 for 10 minutes...they also charged me a 4.0% fee for using my card. The doctor did not even check vitals or anything and just asked if I was sure I had a UTI. I told him that yes I'm sure I've had them before. He just typed that I've had many in the past and prescribed me antibiotics. He said if I wanted to pay $25 more I could get a test just to make sure. I wasn't going to pay an extra $25 just to be told that I definitely had one. He said it seemed like I knew what I had so he said I'll give you antibiotics and you're all set. I was surprised that he barely spoke to me or told me some side effects of the antibiotics. He asked where my pharmacy was and sent me on my way. It's been a few days and normally the doctor will check in to see if the condition has gotten better or worse. I have not received a call. The clinic itself does not look like a medical clinic and there are no certifications or anything about the doctor so I was definitely skeptical. The clinic has paintings of colonial times and random other things around the room. The patient room was not clean looking and had medical books on the shelf. I only went here cuz my insurance hadn't kicked in yet. I will not be back here! read more

It's better than nothing. It was open on a Sunday. The MD was fine, was in the room for a very, very short time, but managed to cover *some* patient education-albeit not in lay terms. Luckily, I am a registered nurse, and nurse-practitioner student. My big complaint is that while administering an injection, I asked the name and dose of the medication. The Medical Assistant did not know. She had to leave the room and see what the drug was, and what the dose was. Folks, this is the danger of replacing licensed personnel with non-licensed personnel!! How does she know she got the medication administration correct if she doesn't know the NAME or the DOSE of the injection she just gave?????? read more

This place is a joke, waited 30 minutes was then told the doctor is going to take a lunch break and I'd have to wait another hour and a half,I WAS THE ONLY PATIENT THERE!!! When I confronted the receptionist about this she just smiled and said we will see you later. Normally this wouldn't make me upset but first they could have told me that when I sat down and second the receptionist smile was completely sarcastic. This doctor is a joke, must have been fired elsewhere and now is forced to run his own joke of a practice. And his help couldn't care less. All in all, I wouldn't go back if it was my only option. I had a great experience here. I called ahead of time to make sure they accepted my insurance and the lady over the phone was very pleasant and said they did. I can here on a Sunday around 10:40am (they are not open on Saturday) and there was no one in the clinic. The ladies at the front desk helped me immediately. I saw a doctor within 10 minutes and was out of there in about 20-25 minutes with a prescription in hand. Because I knew what I needed (antibiotics and cream), the urgent clinic was perfect to get a doctor prescription. I am so glad I did not have to sit in an ER for something minor - but urgent. This Place is a pretty straight forward operation and I really like that. There is no B.S. There is no fine print. There is no beating around the bush. The nurses are kind and sympathetic and most importantly Dr. Nguyen is REAL with you. Firstly, you must realize is that it is CASH ONLY. Being a plastic kind of person I had to turn right around to grab some cash, but fortunately there was an atm in the laundromat a couple shops down. Secondly, you must understand that this place is not some fancy dancy doctors office in a high scale business district. It's an open door storefront in a strip mall... But you searched "low income medical clinic, San Jose" on google, so what do you expect? (I also felt it was very clean and organized inside, so its location is irrelevant.) Lastly, note that there is a price upgrade for those in car accidents. The going rate for a walk in patient is $90. But, say that you were in a car crash and that price will jump automatically to $250. I imagine the reason for this is in the case that the doctor needs to handle lawyers, paperwork or court judges on your behalf, it will be worth it to him....which, i guess is understandable as car accidents are tricky little devils... But I also need to mention How fast I was taken in (It was a quiet Wednesday afternoon.) And how satisfied I was when I left. Before coming to this place I read a lot of complaints but I knew these would not pertain to me. I went there today because i needed a doctors note for work, a med refill from what the hospital prescribed and a check up without having to go back to O'connor and pay a fortune...again.. He took care of my issues + some ( he also gave me off the record legal advise and cracked some jokes with me...BONUS!) I will go Back to Dr. Nguyen if I ever have minor issues like this again, I will also go to him if I have a cold or a flu or need antibiotics.. But if I think I have something more serious, something that probably will need surgery or a specialists advice, then I will go to the hospital or I will go to a specialist and pay the extra money to do so.....Just as the rest of you complainers should have done in the first place. The Review.. I came to Dr.Nguyen I was feeling awful for the past week and had no idea what I had. I tried about everything and nothing helped me. I decided to come in to the urgent Care and from the moment I walked in the nurses were very nice and patient with me. Dr. Nguyen seen me rite away and I did not have to wait for hours witch was great because I was feeling awful! He found the problem rite away and prescribed me the meds I needed to get me going. And thanks to him I feel a lot better and back to work. Thank you Dr. Nguyen For the hospitality and understanding. 3.5 stars I had another health issue and decided to come here again. Thought I'd give this place another try. I hardly ever go see doctors and only do so when I'm super sick for longer than 2 weeks. I would like to retract some of the negative things I've said such as them charging me first before seeing me. This seems to be the standard so I can't hold it to them. They no longer flood the place with air freshener too. And nurses this time were doing their job. When Dr. Nguyen came in, again, it feels he knew what he was talking about and was very positive about me getting well and very consoling. However, I feel like he rushed my visit. He hardly let me talk, and at times talked over me. He said what he needed to say, wrote me a prescription and off I went. I was only in there with him for maybe 5 minutes. Granted what I had was common so I guess it isn't such a big deal to keep talking. And again, I was cured of what I had. The meds helped but I think what really helped what I had the most was using a humidifier. I up this place 1.5 more star only because they get the job done, but I still feel this place lacks privacy. Most are not exactly due to their fault but just the layout of the clinic. The check up rooms are right across the waiting room and the doors are not soundproof. My boyfriend was able to hear what was going on and most likely so did everyone else who was sitting in that room. Just a FYI if you have something truly embarrassing. Nurses were friendly but for a small place like this, I think 3 sitting at the front is a bit too much. I rather talk to one receptionist, and not have all 3 listening in. Perhaps there's a reason why there needs to be 3 people sitting there at the same time, but from a patience's perpective, it's a bit of a crowd at a small clinic. I actually referred this place to my friends who are uninsured as well and they seem to think this place is alright too. It's always nice to know a clinic that takes walk ins and non-insured patience. I'll most likely come again if needed. Oh yeah, if you're uninsured, they only take cash. No debt or credit cards. I did get my refund issued right away after bringing the attention to Dr. Nguyen's notice. This is my family's go-to place for urgent care (I avoid the ER whenever possible -- who doesn't?), due to Dr. Nguyen being very knowledgable, helpful, and friendly. Each time we have gone there, he was able to diagnose the issue and provide treatment for it. There is hardly any wait time because he's super-efficient, even for walk-ins -- and a bonus is that they recently started taking online appointments. Slight downside is that they don't accept credit cards, so copayments need to be with cash. But that's not going to stop me from coming back if we ever need to! read more

Fast and honest. Exactly what I'm looking for in an Urgent Care. I already knew the issue I had before going in, I just needed a prescription since it was a repeat issue. Since my PCP was unavailable, and I didn't want to pay Palo Alto Medical Foundation Urgent Care $250 (!!!) for a visit, I found FHUCC on Yelp. On a Friday afternoon, the office was empty, the doctor saw me fast, and gave me a prescription for what I needed. The only thing that took a long time was the paperwork and the upfront cash I paid (which I've already gotten a check back for). I didn't even get a receipt so they could have denied me the refund, but they were very honest. Note: If I didn't know what was going on, I'm not sure if I'd feel comfortable getting "diagnosed" here (only really trust my PCP and specialists) but for something I already know the answer to, I'd definitely return. I came here last summer when i got strep, the ladies in the front are nice and i filled out some paperwork and then was seen by dr. nguyen pretty quick. Good dr i explained my symptoms and he gave me a few options about treating them and the price since he knew i had no insurance. I believe they have a pharmacy to so they can fill your prescription there. I spent the past week sick, worrying about the fact that I don't have an insurance card at the moment (long story - blame the post office). I finally reached my breaking point on Sunday and asked a friend for help. She used Yelp to find reviews of local urgent care centers, and she felt that this clinic would be the best fit for me. I called first and informed them that I needed to see a doctor, but I did not have any proof of insurance right now. The nurse understood and asked me to come in straight away. I signed in and was handed a form for people without insurance (presumably so I could pay out of pocket). There was no wait, even on a Sunday afternoon, and the nurse took me into a room right away. She was very pleasant and understanding of my situation. I am used to urgent care centers back in the Midwest where I am expected to wait at least 20 minutes to be taken back, let alone be seen, but the doctor came in immediately after the nurse left. After a quick examination, he determined the problem and offered me some inexpensive antibiotics for my bronchitis. He saved me from paying twice as much at Walgreens! The next day, I was already feeling much better. For paying out of pocket, the price was more than reasonable, and I felt very taken care of at this facility. I was kicking myself for not going sooner. Thanks to Dr. Nguyen and his nurse, I'm getting back to good health, and I really appreciate their friendly, helpful attitudes during my time of need. read more

We took our toddler in New Years Eve because our regular pediatrician was closed. When we came in the girls at the desk were super nice and tried to help with our insurance but for some reason wasn't able to find it. I asked her to call the insurance and she wasn't able to get much from them. So basically ended up paying $85.00 plus $2.50 for credit card charge. We came into the room and told doctor what was going on with the baby. He didn't even take a look at her yet and has already diagnosed her with the flu. Then he begins telling us the whole entire history about the flu and how you get it and what to do. I told the doctor she has a really bad cough inquired if it was bronchitis, he looked at her throat and said no it's all clear she doesn't have bronchitis. So I'm thinking he's going to prescribe her with antibiotics for the flu but when I picked up the medication from the pharmacy it was for cough and congestion. I was so confused??? Anyways we are now on day 4 and the cough hasn't got any better. Very disappointing. read more

I took my brother here last month for urgent care as his primary doctor was not available and she also suggested it. We got to the office about 30-45 minutes before it closed. We were asked to pay upfront $100 in CASH even though my brother has health insurance as they indicated it was late. I still don't quite understand why they were not able to do an insurance follow-up if the clinic is open. My brother was seen within 5-10 minutes after signing in and filling the paperwork. After about 20 minutes, he was diagnosed with a heat rash as he did not eat anything of of the ordinary. The Dr. prescribed him a syrup to take for 1 week and an ointment to apply on irritated skin area as needed. About 3.5 weeks later, my brother is still experiencing the itchiness. I scheduled for him to be f/u by his primary doctor who indicated that he probably got himself into a bad case of itch & scratch cycle. She diagnosed him with severe eczema and suggested a simple over the counter regimen (saves a whole lot of $) as follows: Clarityn syrup in the AM, Aquaphor cream after drying off from a shower, and Benadryl in the PM for two weeks. If he doesn't get better to call her and she will refer him to a dermie. After 2 weeks, he is no longer scratching and his skin has returned to normal-smooth. My 3-stars is for the service being quick and efficient, but losing the 2 stars for the insurance f/u and the doctor not being accurate with his diagnosis. read more

If you need to go to an urgent care, I would not recommend this one. The first sign that should have been clear to me was that the medical assistant did NOT even take my mother's temperature when she came in with flu like symptoms. The doctor then diagnosed her with the flu without checking her throat or her ears. My sister and I, who are both in the medical field, asked him to please check those and he barely looked at her throat. He proceeded to talk smack about other urgent cares and how his clinic was the best in the area.... Fast forward to 4-5 days later and my mom is doing much worse. Luckily our primary care doctor's office is open and he prescribed her antibiotics for the RIGHT cause of illness. If the first doctor had correctly examined her before, she wouldn't have had to suffer for so long. If you want your loved ones to feel better ASAP, I recommend not stopping by here. read more

If I could give this doctor's office 0 stars I would. I brought my son in the office and heard the doctor tell a patient that he didn't need to see the TB test personally if she could confirm there was no bump. This is def not allowed in the medical line. Strike one there! Next, they told me to come in and when we did, the doctor came and whispered to secretary that we had kids and to verify the insurance which they had yes too but then states that they would take cash only. The first thing we asked if they accepted medical, the front desk was not sure about that and asked us to fill out the form. Then when I was about to write down the doctor flew all the way to us and was like screaming in Vietnamese: don't write anything, we don't accept Medical, don't write on the paper,go home, go home. I was saying that I can pay by cash or credit, then he was like " oh its like $85, i think its pricey for you". But I was like in the rush to go to work so I was okie with that price. The only thing here is after that he changed his attitude to me. I have never been to the place that people come and talk to me like "if you don't have money we don't serve you" like this place.
