I've had Dr. Masada as my Primary Care Physician for almost 30 years now. He's cared for our whole family as our children were growing up. Dr. Masada is thorough, spends the time needed to really address your concerns, offers helpful information and solutions, and provides truly excellent care. Over the years, he's had many suggestions and offered referrals. I trust his advice. His office is small and intimate and you won't feel like you're getting lost, as you do at the large clinics. Dr. Masada has been a great GP for me. He has correctly guided medical care for several issues. His staff are friendly and the office atmosphere is relaxed. I've had no problems reaching office staff by phone and appointments are readily available. The office runs smoothly and waiting times are always reasonable. The visit went smoother than expected. Got in without waiting too long and the receptionist helped with the paperwork which was a nice start. The doctor seemed focused and asked some direct questions that showed experience. They explained how certain symptoms might connect and talked through a few things I hadn't thought of before. They also asked about daily habits and gave a few suggestions that actually made sense for once. Overall it felt like they cared but didn't sugarcoat anything which I respect. I like that he was timely with seeing patients, spent a reasonable amount of time, and explains non medication options as a choice in a non threatening way. He presents them as opportunities to convince you to do better rather than must because he said so. Had other physicians in the past demand significant lifestyle changes in a browbeating imminent threat with little tact or insight from patient perspective as to their position. read more

Dr. Masada has been my mother's primary physician for a long time. My mother has suffered greatly because of his negligence and carelessness. Any time my mother mentioned anything, he would just smile, brush it off and tell her it's nothing. He didn't care to listen, check her for anything or at the very least refer her to someone who can. My mother mentioned that she was feeling some mild chest pain and pain in her left arm. Masada said that it was nothing, just muscle spasms. She ended up having a heart attack and a quadruple bypass. she went in with extreme foot pain, some areas were extremely red, swollen and in some were pale, ulcers on her heels. Masada didn't bother to check her feet or send for tests, without a glance, he decided that it was an infection. He blindly gave her antibiotics and sent her on her way. He didn't schedule a follow up visit, She took the antibiotics for the time instructed, they weren't working. She was getting worse, prescribed her another antibiotic. Didn't help, she went to a surgeon who did numerous angiograms to try and restore blood flow, all failed, which resulted in my mother's surgeon (without any consent) amputate her entire leg & tissue to where she had no option of a prosthetic, all the way up the hip, refused to close the wounds that were now infected and my mother's husband and surgeon both decided to put my mother on comfort care and allow the infection to take over until she passed away. All without even notifying me although she was staying with me for months, make beautiful progress, then would go home to her husband and she would make a turn for the worst, fighting for her life. Her husband got extremely angry that he ended up having to take her to the hospital instead of me, that he held a grudge over it & keep me away from her in the hospital, made her think that I abandoned her at the hospital, when i finally scraped up the $100 it cost me to Uber to her and back, he screamed, made a huge scene at the hospital, tried to call security saying that i was violent. by that time, they had done so much to my mom, she was unable to hold a conversation or tell you her first name.. He turned my family against me. She has passed, he still continues to keep me away, from receiving her ashes, having any part in her services or allowing me anything that my mother left me. since there was no will, I can't do anything. It would have ended up a much better outcome if he had properly checked for an infection or be honest about his lack of knowledge for infections and cardiovascular issues, he could've advised her to seek a specialist and wouldn't have been experimented on by that surgeon. My mother wouldn't be 100% but she would still be here today if she had only gotten the proper assessments, tests and diagnosis in time. Because of Masada's negligence and carelessness, I lost everything. And everything beautiful that I had ever felt inside of myself is lost. read more

I helped a family member find Dr. Masada's office and then accompanied them to their visit with Dr. Masada on two occasions. I have very high standards for health care and was extremely impressed with the Doctor himself, his staff, and his office's organizational style and process. He runs on time, and he is knowledgeable and caring. He found the issue my loved one had quickly and addressed a long standing problem they had in a compassionate way-something no other provider had done. I love my own primary care provider; but if I ever need a new one, I will be choosing Dr. Masada. My loved one is very happy with their care. It's so hard to find an independent, high quality, caring primary care doctor with such a well run practice. They have rules and standards for a reason-to keep us all on time! read more

Had the worst experience calling front desk to ask about becoming a new patient. I'm in the market for a new primary care doctor after moving back from san francisco and just wanted to get a checkup. I waited 15 minutes on the phone until I was able to speak to someone to make an appointment. After they picked up they said they were accepting new patients, that my insurance is in network, and proceeded to schedule me. Now here's where it gets interesting... He then mentions that my visit isn't going to be covered by my insurance. He said that I need to have a health issue or preexisting issue if I didn't want to pay out of pocket. In order for insurance to cover my visit, I would need to schedule a physical checkup which are booked 3 months out. In my mind i'm thinking (OK kind of weird, but totally understand). I said: "please give me the earliest time for a physical checkup" frontdesk guy : "we don't schedule three months out so I can't schedule you for a physical" WTF???? so the only way is for me to pay out of pocket because you don't want to schedule me three months out?? read more

Dr. Masada has been my primary physician for the past few years. I would normally just do my annual exam with him and that'll be it.. until recently. I got a staph infection on my leg that due to a Spartan event that I participated in and that turned pretty gnarly that he had to drain it. It was super painful and I was very nervous, however, meeting with Dr. Masada a few times I knew that I was going to be ok eventually. The procedure was done in his office where he used localized anaesthesia on my leg and quickly and painlessly drained the abscesses on my leg. Dr. Masada is great and caring doctor. He embodied the profession. He has great bedside manner and genuinely cares about your well being. I am not sure if Dr. Masada takes on new patient but if you have the opportunity to become his patient, I wouldn't think twice about it. read more

I still think Dr.Masada is a great provider. However I was notified by Yelp to update this review and I wanted others to know that when I went years ago for my ingrown toenail surgery, the office did not have the proper equipment compared to a Podiatrist's office. I think if you can't get a referral and have no other options then here is fine but my ingrown toenail came back after a few months so I went to a Podiatrist and the full experience was much less painful. The Podiatrist used needle nose scissors which caused less pain and was able to locate the nerve immediately so numbing was much faster. If you have the option for ingrown toenail surgery, please try to see a Podiatrist. read more

I have been going to Dr. Masada's office for about three years now, and I can confidently say that it has been an absolutely great experience having him as my PCP. Scheduling appointments is easy, his front-desk staff and nurses are very friendly, and overall they are very accessible. Dr. Masada is a very friendly man, and I feel that I am given great attention and medical advice whenever I visit him, for whatever reason. I feel that he actively listens to what I have to say, and gives the best response he can give. We've had good conversation during my appointments, so overall I would say my experience with his office has been great. Located in the Medical Plaza off Lexann Ave in East Side San Jose. Years ago, I had complained to my old my manager about all the problems I had with my PREVIOUS doctors.. -difficult to make appointments, usually months out before I'm seen -long wait in the waiting room and then another long wait while I'm in the exam room -doctors did not really listen.. -doctors brushed off my concerns -time with the doctor was less than 5 minutes and then they're gone -always left feeling unsatisfied and the visit was just a waste time She then brought up her PCP, Dr. Marvin Masada and her previous positive experiences with him. At that point I had nothing to lose and I was already feeling so frustrated with my own PCP.. so I decided to call Dr. Masada's office to make an appointment. I've been going to Dr.Masada for a few years now and I'm so happy that I made the switch. It's easy to set up an appointment, just let the receptionist know what you're calling for and she'll take the time to get you in. At the office, once I check-in at the front desk, I get called in not too long after.. No super long unreasonable wait times here! Dr. Masada always greets me with a sweet, pleasant smile and asks me how I am. He is patient and actually LISTENS to me and all my concerns. Great bed side manners. Dr. Masada is knowledgeable and would explain to me anything I should know and would prescribe me what I needed. My visits have always been calming, and I always leave feeling a little better and with good information. Here's one of my experiences.. Just recently, I got hit with vertigo when I woke up on a Sunday. The room was spinning with every movement, and I would vomit because I became so nauseous. I literally could not move at all without the room spinning! It was so horrible. I did not know what to do because this was only the second time this happened to me in my life but this was more extreme. My boyfriend suggested that I go to Urgent Care but the thought of moving and being in a car was something I could not handle. Especially knowing that these places would normally take HOURS to be seen, I did not want to sit in a waiting room for that long. I told him I rather call Dr.Masada on Monday (the office is closed on weekends) and see if they could see me. I trust Dr.Masada, and when I'm feeling ill, I don't want to be seen by anyone else but him. So Monday comes and I called the office to see if I could be seen that same day. Tina (front desk) said that he was fully booked (as expected) for the day and asked what I was calling for. I told her that I had vertigo since the day before and didn't know what to do. She put me on hold for a bit, came back on and said "We are fully booked for the day but you can come in at 3:30pm but only for that reason. He will see you in between patients." Oh my god...you don't even know, I was soo grateful and relieved. That's how amazing the Dr. Masada and his staff are. Tina also mentioned to me that they had been very busy and booked up recently because they were closed a few weeks during the holiday season. Not because it's the holidays, Dr.Masada was on mission trip to Vietnam. He saw patients back to back and when he got back to the U.S., he went straight back to work at the office. So you can imagine, what kind of doctor Dr.Masada is! My experience with the doctor and staff have always been pleasant, even when I wasn't feeling too well. I've been with Dr. Masada for less than 5 years. He's such a pleasant, and knowledgeable physician. My husband and I love him. He's quite busy, but he never rushes during my appointments. Answers all my questions and concerns. Office staff is friendly and very efficient when we need forms filled out, prescriptions filled, etc. So happy to finally have a great family doctor closer to home. Wow wow wow! I am kind of hesitant to yelp Dr. Masada b/c I don't want him to get an overflown of new patients for my own selfish reason! The ONLY reason why I rated him a 3 star previously was my physical check-up appointment took me 1 month! Otherwise, Dr. Masada is five stars all the way. Man, I am over the doctors my mom recommends me to see. THANK YOU YELP community for recommending me Dr. Masada!!! My previous doctors would LITERALLY spend less than 15 minutes with me before hoping over to the next patients. They never seem to care--to them, it was how many patients can I see in a day? Can I beat my record yesterday? Dr. Masada is very patient and thorough! He spent at least 35 minutes with me. As a new patient, he inquired my health and person history, seeming genuinely interested. I was the first patient of the day (8am), and I LOVE when drs. are punctual! At another dr. office, i was also the first patient of the day, but HE SHOWED up 20 minutes late..no kidding. If you're looking for a new doctor, Dr. Masada is your man! Am very happy to have finally found the best PCP doctor there is! The first time in my patient's life going into a doctor's office not packed with sick people. The very welcoming receptionist and medical assistant sign you in and have you in a room for vital checks right away. A minute or two later, the doctor walks in. DR. MARVIN MASADA is awesome! Took his precious doctor's time to talk and to get to know you! Very smart and kind doctor! We were referred to Dr. Masada by our midwife and we had a very nice experience at his office. The receptionist was very friendly in making our appointment and we were greeted by a very nice staff. Dr. Masada is extremely kind and really took the time with our baby girl and in answering our questions. We especially loved that he offered some simple, safe home remedies for some common childhood ailments and very patient with our questions. Great doc! read more

This review is for Percilla the frontdesk clerk. She is overly sensitive and rude. I've witnessed her mistreat other patients that didn't speak English well. The patient was asking about a charge that she didn't understand. Instead of taking the time explain things she flew off the handle and stormed off like a child throwning a tantrum and ran back to Dr. Masada like a spoiled brat. Never thought a grown women could behave this way. I had the misfortune of encountering Percilla when I called to make an appointment. I asked if I should cancel another appointment later that day, because I didn't know if there would be enough time to commute to the next meeting. She never answered the question of "should I cancel the other appointment", I reiterated the original question. She took the second time asking the same question personal or something because she hung up on me. read more

I am new to Dr. Masada office, the front desk is super friendly and helpful. The nurse is super sweet and when She helped me with the flu shot, I didn't know how and when it happens. 0 pain or feeling from start to finish in 0.10 second. Hands down!!! Dr. Masada spent 30 mins to talk and go over my family history before talked about my flu issues. I can tell he was the kind of doctor that you wanted to visit during your sick days. I'm writing this review because of the phone receptionist. I called and was imitatively put on hold. That's all fine but then she hung up on me without getting back to me. I had to call 3 times just to get her to have a conversation with me. She then asked me a series of questions and told me Dr. Masada was not taking any new patients. The weird thing is that his name is on my card as my primary doctor. I just never visited. I'm not to familiar with the Insurance and doctor relationship so I can't review Dr. Masada, but basically this receptionist gave me absolutely no support on getting me scheduled with another doctor. Dr. Masada is an awesome doctor. Knows his stuff and gets right on point. It's pretty hard to make an appointment with him, but well worth the wait if you are not in medical dire need of attention. On the other hand, his staff are not so bright. Plus they are rude. They don't know much about insurance and they have no phone etiquette. I don't like how his billing department is 3rd party, so you have to call them directly. I recommend him to yelp reviewers. Just be nice to his staff and they'll be nice to you. read more

Waiting time was the only thing that bugged me. Came 10 mins early for my 12:15 appointment and was not seen until 1. Besides that, he is probably the nicest doctor I have ever met. The best doctor hands down. I am with Jen H about being a bit afraid to tell people about him, only for selfish reasons, as in I do not want a huge influx of people filling all the time slots up. Whenever I am there the wait to see him is not bad and when you do see him he makes you feel like he has no where else to be. He seems genuinely interested in what you have to say and offers stories with his advice to really help with the understanding of what is going on with you. I have FINALLY found my doctor. Whenever I call, the receptionist is friendly and very helpful, always making sure to find me an appointment time that works best for me. When I come in, I'm always greeted with friendly smiles. Very minimal paperwork. The nurse here is the sweetest as well. I'm always brought in exactly on my appointment time. They're very punctual here. Dr. Masada is very friendly, a kind, happy, caring, sweet man. He makes sure to hear your side before rushing to any conclusions. He genuinely cares about what's wrong. He's never rushed the appointment and takes his time, having great conversations with you. And at the end, he always asks if there's anything else he can help with. I've gone through at least 4-5 doctors and I'm so glad to finally find Dr. Masada. I don't live in San Jose anymore, but I can't imagine seeing anyone else as a family practitioner. Amazing doctor. I have been hunting to find the perfect doctor for me. I mean I need someone that I can trust. and someone I can be comfortable with talking about my symptoms. My previous doctor that my family have been going to was not someone I was comfortable with, so I decided to find someone else. I came upon Doctor Masada through yelp and I'm so appreciative of the reviews that attracted me and convinced me to get an appointment with him. I called on Monday and got an appointment on Wednesday. I came on wednesday and didn't have to wait at all. I know there were a lot of comments regarding the staff, but I had no problem with them. Maybe because they were straight forward with me so there were minimal interaction with them to figure more about them. But I feel you should rate Masada base on Masada only and don't weigh in on the staff. But that's my personal view. I came to see him. And let me tell you, the first 5 minutes of talking to him - he was polite, caring, understanding, and he's a good listener. He listened me to ramble on and on and he was attentive. He didn't rush me, he didn't make me hurry up, he actually had a conversation with me where he got to know me more and I got to know him more too. As for the reason as to why I came there, he did not give me one direct "you should do ______" and prescribe me a medicine and sent me on my way. He listened to me, talked to me, and gave me options. He let me choose which was best for me and that's what I appreciate him. He threw some options in the air and let me decide on which one to grab. He was very kind and I am 100% sure that he will be my main doctor from now on. I just wish I knew about him sooner! read more

Started off with a strong and courteous front office. Was able to get in, even though he is booked solid. Walked in for my 8AM appoint - minimal paperwork and was brought back to begin my physical around 8:05 - NICE. The nurses were pleasant and got the prelim job done quick. Dr. Masada was patient, took the time to go through all the checkpoints and paperwork. We shared some personal stories and the appointment was not rushed at all. I felt that I got all my answers that I needed. Easy one stop signature to get all your records from your old PCP. Lastly but most importantly - ONE SITE BLOOD WORK, no having to go to a Lab Corp office! read more

If there is a rate of less than one star, I'll rate him & his entire team at negative. Dr. Masada asked me to proceed to LabCorp for blood work w/o informing me on what specific tests were needed to be done. All the while I thought it was necessary for routine physical exam. I'm warning you as a patient to ask him first because he won't have the initiative to notify you with at least la brief explanation. You will be surprised about the elevated bills both from his clinic & LabCorp (In fairness, said lab has nothing to do w/ the high bill coz they just follow the order of the doctor). Another issue is her secretary who is very rude, impatient & not helpful. She has very poor customer service......very, very, very poor. I will never go back there. Had a physical performed and am very impressed with the attention to detail and comprehensive care that Dr. Masuda provides. He answered any questions that I had and also took the time to get to know me as well before the physical exam instead of trying to get through the checkup which was really pleasant.
