As a clinician, I have made many referrals to this clinic, and I think they offer a useful service to the public.

Duke Specialty Rehab Services Midtown features some of the worst customer service and most…read morebelligerent staff, from front desk, to therapists, and management I've ever seen or experienced. Every visit to this office has been a battle and uphill climb. Front desk staff badger and harass clients and are offensively aggressive and unfriendly about social distancing enforcement. If you are even one minute late you are usually turned away and laughed at and made fun of behind your back by the front desk staff (I watched firsthand and listened to their commentary as someone was turned away after pleading their case with an impassive complement of front desk staff). Therapists make faces, roll their eyes, and sigh when dealing with patients that may have medical issues or need more time. I have seen therapists be downright rude, berating and yelling at clients and family members, taking their personal issues and grievances out on those in their care. The general climate and reception one receives at this office is one of apathy and disdain. When further input or follow up is requested from management about issues with therapists or front desk staff, there is no phone call or response. No action is taken to find out what the issues are and/or make things better. Yes, we are in the midst of a pandemic but there is no need to be rude, unhappy, and unpleasant because of it across all levels of staff. If front desk, therapy, and management dislike their areas of practice to this extent, perhaps they would best be served by considering a radical career change. It's unnecessary to make an already trying time that much worse. For the office's management and beyond that for Duke to not even acknowledge, communicate about, or address problems at this location seems unconscionable. If I had a choice, not only would I not receive care at any other Duke-affiliated provider but I would research and carefully consider other locations and their reviews for physical, occupational, and speech therapy. Having to go though difficulty because of a health event and needing therapy is bad enough without having to contend with unfriendly staff with what seems like embedded ill will. The quality of care suffers when caregivers harbor and promote a negative environment. It makes it that much more difficult to trust providers and feel safe. It makes a time when you are vulnerable worse and is a counterproductive stumbling block to healing and recovery. I can't recommend more strongly that you seek your care and a better patient experience elsewhere. Unfortunately--in spite of the Duke name and unless you are a "good" patient with minimal therapy needs that arrives half an hour to an hour before your appointment and follows social distancing guidelines perfectly in spite of any cognitive or other deficits you are experiencing due to your injury/health event--you will not find it here.

My doctor, Dr.Whitlock, who put a plate and 8 screws on my leg while telling me for all intents and purposes, I would be in a wheelchair or toe touch on a walker ( read no weight bearing on my right leg. What? How,was i supposed to drive?) referred me to the WakeMed Rehabilitation Hospital, arguably the best in NC. I was scared, anxious, in shock and denial. I was accepted to the rehab hospital for up to two weeks. During those days, I had OT and PT for a total of 3 hours a day. I was bribed by my PT with REAL Pepsi. I watch my calories and my weight but this inspired me to work.harder. The nursing staff were not only awesome but diverse. A nurse after my surgery was from Ghana. He told me about Ghana and the tamed crocodiles, the elephants, the parrots at 2AM when I couldn't sleep. I knew he was busy but was grateful he talked to me when I needed support. On the 2D hall, I met a delightful aide whom I nicknamed twodeetwo and she called me Silly Willy. This young 20 year old was working full time and attending Meredith to get a degree in biology before nursing school. The woman cleaning my room was originally a nurse from the Dominincan Republic My overnight aide was from Nigeria, one of my nurses was from India and 2 of my nurses were in the same age group that I was (Im 76). Another aide was adopted from Russia near where I had adopted my son. Im sure I left a number of people out but I could sure go on and on. What a great experience Im now home feeling less anxious and better prepared for the road ahead. Thank all of you who took care of me. I was blessed to have found you albeit, the hard way!

The staff couldn't have been more helpful, competent and welcoming. We were especially impressed with the facility director, Ms. Jacqueline Mitchell, and the admissions director, Will Rogers. They both made the transition to a nursing home residence for my aunt very seamless and were instrumental in explaining the process to me and my sister. Also, the nursing staff has been outstanding!! The director of nursing even came out to my car to assist the staff in removing my immobile aunt from the car. Everyone on staff is very friendly and helpful. We have seen a definite improvement in my aunt's health and disposition. Howard D.

My husband ran out of Medicare coverage for skilled nursing facilities last Fall. How Raleigh Rehab was able to bill Medicare is something to be explored. Since I paid in advance for my husband's stay there I am still waiting for reimbursement from them because he was moved to hospice in the middle of the month. Raleigh Rehab said they'd "Look into it." but I haven't heard anything from them even though six weeks has passed. On Monday I will turn this whole mess over to Medicare. I feel assured they will investigate and take the appropriate action.

The food was dreadful. The food was cold. When he asked for coffee or anything it never arrived at all OR it was stone cold. They told us he was eating well and doing great. He was barely eating anything as the food was so bad and stone cold. He asked to have help taking a shower multiple times, no one ever helped. He also asked to have his bed sheets changed, no one did so. He ended up back in the hospital as no one there would listen or help him or tell us the truth as to how he was doing. He called 911 to come and get him as he was maltreated, malnourished and not helped one iota. His days there extended his overall recovery. The staff had no clue what was going on. Run fast from this place - and don't look back. I would give this DUMP a zero if I could.
