We had a group of 6 people rent boards as walk ins and they made it easy and convenient. They even provided boards as it pertains to our experience level even without being asked. If you plan to buy clothes here they are a little expensive but the board and ski rental prices are very competitive. They also have a convenient drop box outside so we were able to enjoy the full 3 days we rented and deposited the boards in the drop box after they were closed. Which is nice because you don't have to rush a boarding session to return the boards on time. Over all great place, made our vacation easy and simple and I would definitely recommend. Although we have not been to the other shops near by so take it with a grain of salt but "First track" is a great option in my opinion. read more

I will always support an honest business. We rented skis for our 9 year old. Unfortunately another family grabbed his and we were out of luck. We put in requests at the ski resort and a few shops by the slopes to keep an eye out. As expected, we had to pay the fee for the "lost skis" but we're assured if they were turned in we would get a refund. My husband followed up after a week and the skis were not turned in. Several weeks later he got a call that they were located and a refund would be issued within the next 3-4 hours. And it was!! We learned to use Lockard after this experience. But we are so thankful the staff were honest and followed up with us as promised. Highly recommend this company for rental needs. read more

We rented skis from 1st tracks for the new year holiday weekend. Pricing is reasonable and the staff was super friendly and helpful. They were obviously busy with it being a holiday weekend, but check in, fitting, and picking up our gear was easy and efficient. Despite being busy, the staff took time to make good recommendations on gear for a skier of my size and skill, and as a result I felt better and more confident on my skis than I ever have on rented gear. We will definitely continue renting from 1st tracks! read more

Amazing service. Small business run by a cool guy. Came in with my siblings to purchase ski boots. Fit use to our skiing abilities and foot size. Later came back to purchase ski's and ski poles. Does in house servicing on skis and included putting on the bindings in the price. But here, the prices are cheaper than at ski mountain shops. read more

We purchased skies and boots for our daughter at this locally owned and operated ski shop in our small ski town of Boone N.C.. We are returning customers and will continue to make our ski and snowboard purchases at this friendly and helpful shop. We worked with an experienced and knowledgeable associate who gave my daughter his full attention and made sure she was in the absolute perfect boot, which took some time. we returned to purchase the recommended skies to create a perfect set for our recent college graduate daughter who is a great skier living in New England and planning to move to Colorado - we are super excited that she now owns a carefully curated set of skies. So we reserved our gear online so we would have the gear we needed ready when we got into town for the weekend. Apparently reserving your gear doesn't actually do anything. We drag our kids out at 8:30pm (which is their bedtime) to get our gear for the next day only to be told they have no rental equipment left for our children. We had to already secure our lift tickets in advance at a local mountain due to Covid protocols. Now we have to get gear at the resort but they only offer appointments for rental pickup (again due to Covid) and the earliest slot is noon. So now our first day of skiing will be spent waiting to get our gear and miss out on half a day of skiing. The non management staff was polite and apologetic. I honestly feel sorry for them cause they have to deal with irate customers thanks to an apathetic management/ownership that won't make the necessary fixes to their online system to prevent this miscommunication about reservations. I know I wouldn't want to work for management that threw me under the bus constantly. Given how this has blown up my valued vacation time, I have a hard time justifying doing business with these guys again. read more

The first time we walked in during nighttime hours and had a good experience with a kind employee letting us know that since we would be night skating the following day, to return at 0800 in the morning to be sure they do not sell out of skis. We purchased a clothing item and planned to return in the morning. The next morning, we wake our kids and drive everyone over at 0800. We walk in and immediately upon entering, a woman scolds my husband who was placing his mask on his face "you are to put your mask on before you enter the store." Not "Hi welcome in, next time try to have your mask on before entering." She was immediately rude and my husband finished putting his mask on while the remaining 6 of us had ours on. She asked what we were looking for in the store today and I stated that we were in to rent skis. Her reply was "we are all sold out." I was shocked and explained that we were told the night before specifically to come in to avoid this happening. She again said they were sold out. I asked what time we could return to try again since we would be night skiing and only needed the equipment for a half day. This woman had the audacity to reply "I don't know I cannot predict the future." I recommend the owners and management of this business self reflect and maybe take some training in customer service, tact, or basic common manners. Or if your employees are rude and the reviews are constantly reflective of that - hire new people. Pay attention to the theme of your reviews! I wish I did before coming in to this business. read more

Beware of very deceptive business practices! My daughter is buying boots and visited this store last week. When she told the staff member her boot size and the boot she was interested in, she was handed the boots to try on by herself with no assistance from an employee. Normally, this would really not be a big deal, but when she called me for advice and I told her that I would prefer that she try to find something less expensive, the staff member told her that if she didn't buy boots that day, they would charge her a $25 "fitting fee". They did not mention this fee when she was trying on the boots and nobody helped her try on the boots anyway. They didn't even measure her foot size. My daughter is too shy to watch out for herself in this type of interaction and just agreed to pay it. When I called the store after her departure, the person I spoke with was rude, she lied to me about the help my daughter received, and she refused to do the right thing...give my daughter a $25 refund of the money that they didn't earn in the first place. I was never rude to her, but she hung up on me when she decided she didn't want to deal with my very reasonable request for the refund. read more

Hello. Today I woke up excited to go rent skis for night skiing, unfortunately this is not a happy ending. As I arrived at the store, I walked in with my family. My dad was greeted by a short woman with a brown bob saying "put your face mask on before coming in" a local Karen, if you will. She then proceeded to ask what we were there for, we informed her we were trying to rent some skis. We were told they were already sold out, after 15 minutes of being open. This was okay, not upset. UNTIL. We asked when a good time to come back and try and get some skis was. The short lady had the nerve to say, "I don't know, I can't predict the future." Well, hopefully she would have been able to predict my foot going up her ass, since that what was about to happen. All in all, I do not recommend this store and will not be returning. read more

I HIGHLY don't recommend this place to anyone. We were told by a lady that we would get our ski gear if we went to their store at 8:00 am, so we went and were told all the skis were sold out even though we were guaranteed skis. We were also greeted by a lady with short brown hair that had a horrible attitude and told us that she didn't know anything and that she couldn't predict the future after we asked her when a good time would be to come back. I am very upset with how things were handled in that store. read more

BROKEN TRACKS. WASTED TIME. Mismanaged with high prices, limited mediocre options to buy new, and awful beat up rental gear. Pissed me off so bad not having size 10 boots to rent or sell I went to RECESS. Much better local vibe there anyway. Not treated like a conveyor belt. Only reason we considered Broken Tracks was they were open early. Don't plan on your new set up or rental gear from here if you're size 10. Go 4 doors down to from this joke to RECESS they have all the newest best gear for sale and rent. read more

They have a great military discount for rentals. the ski equipment is pretty nice here. You can choose from performance or shape skiis. The boards are the same options. You can also choose from BOA or lace boots. being the size that I am, I often get to ride a new board which is pretty sweet. The bindings on the board suck! they are the kind where you slip you boot in and then lock from behind. I never felt like my boot was securely strapped in compared to the other binders there you tighten the foot and ankle and the backing doesn't move. But the price is right. though I would go elsewhere. read more

We have shopped here several times. Always have had great Customer Service until today. We stopped in to buy some snowboarding boots because they didn't have the size we needed at the end of last season. The employees had helped us pick out a pair and were super helpful in April. We stopped in today trying to buy the boots and a female employee proceeded to give us a speech about charging $20 for a fitment because people come in to try stuff on and they go online to buy them. She also told us the $20 was to help "feed her family". I've been in sales most of my life and the whole thing was ridiculous. A college kid giving me a speech about feeding her family within a minute of interacting with us is absurd. They didn't have the size we needed so we proceeded to App Ski and bought the $350 boots there. They were super helpful and have sized our kids plenty of times over the years for free without hassle. read more

We came in from Texas on a slightly unfortunate week for boarding and the manager was more than accommodating on prices and let us rain check our gear until a few days later so that we could enjoy it when the snow was better. Absolutely the worst ski shop I've ever been in. The management team has no idea how to treat a customer. The rental equipment my friends were forced to use was absolutely terrible (NO EDGES AT ALL!) They were renting a pair of k2's I think I used in 1980! I brought my skis in to see if I could switch my bindings to a new pair of skis I had recently purchased (these skis have raiser plates with pre drilled settings and only require 4 screws to be taken out per ski) and they wanted to charge me $60! THAT IS HIGHWAY ROBBERY. I later took my skis to another shop who allowed me to use their screw gun to remove the screws myself free of chrage. I dont know how this shop stays in business. My teenage son's have been to the shop twice. The first time was a great experience there were two younger sales dudes that were very helpful and gave them a great price on their rentals and everything and they loved their experience. The next time they went there there was a woman who is an absolute B****. She was rude and condescending and acted like they were bothering her. Then she charges them for a full day rental for two hours when the previous week the other guys didn't do that. Bad management, bad customer service, do not spend your money here. read more

The staff at 1st Tracks in Boone is rude and uninformed. I called to ask the hours and how much it would cost to mount cross country ski bindings, was told 8am-10pm and $50. So my husband went there at 8:05, going late to work, and they were not open and not a soul was there. Then he called and the denied not being open at 8. Then he asked the girl what time they closed and she didn't know. So he took the skis back and they and they said it would cost $75. I called to see why is was more and they said it was a specialty, but the guy had a very rude tone and quickly said "you can take it somewhere else" and I said "I think I will" and he HUNG UP ON ME!!! Convenient and fast! Great customer service. We were in and out with all the equipment we needed to enjoy a nice day skiing. Upon return, received excellent customer service as we were running late. Owner/manager couldn't have been more helpful and also offered great suggestion on a different boot for my next ski trip. Will rent from 1st Tracks again. read more

The shop is a great place we open at 8 am but I hate to say that when you get a lot of snow it can make it hard but 5 minutes is not that bad with a foot of snow. We close up to 1 hour after the slopes close based on rental returns so closing is not a straight answer. We do mount ski bindings there also but tell and cross country skies are specialty mounts and cost more when people call and ask price they do not always think to say what they want mounted. For rentals we do not have anything but shape skies so there are no old skies. With snow boards we have lace boots and boa boots that are new and bindings that are both strap and flow, flow are the ones where the backs flip up and down for fast in and out of the system, it is a love it or hate it. I ride a strap but have lots of friends that ride flow and would tell you they are the best. If you have problems we are sorry and hope the next trip is better. We do try to make everyone happy.............. read more

Extremely rude customer service. I am now an ex-customer of this ski shop. I have rented boards, bought snow boards, bindings, boots, clothing, and go pro gear probably totaling over $2000 worth of product as well as having maintenance on my families snowboards. After purchasing a set of Head snowboard boots, after 8 uses there was a manufacturing defect. So I brought the boots in to "Alex" the only "Store manager." I showed him the tear on the boots that clearly was not from wear, it was bluntly obvious that the stitching came off. I came in asking what I could do about it and if he could exchange them. His response was "What am I supposed to do about that?" I said I only used them like 8 times and bought them this year. "Oh well you used the 8 times?! Then we definitely can not do anything about it." Unless someone else told me other wise I did not realize the service life of a boot was not even one season. I said well this must be an expensive sport. Again Alex said "Well what do you want me to do about it, an exchange would be out of the question." He was very offensive about the whole situation. I said I see your upset, I'm not saying you made the boots or any thing negative about this business. I'm just saying you sold me a pair of boots. I used them eight times and they broke. He never said anything about going online and trying to get a replacement / repair. The reason I am upset is how the situation was handled due to the attitude from "Alex." If he politely handled the situation and the end product would still be the same. I would still be a customer. I am sure the owner of this establishment will be pleased with the representation of customer service from this young punk. read more
