I've never been a huge First Watch fan, but I've never hated it. This location fits that perfectly - it's fine. I was here with a large group at lunch, and it was mostly dead aside from us. Orders were done efficiently, all of them came out right, and they came out pretty quickly considering how we slammed the kitchen all at once. I was impressed. The food was, as I mentioned, fine. I had a Tri-Fecta, which came with one monstrous pancake (I had pecan), two eggs any style (I chose over easy), and bacon/sausage. The pancake itself had tons of pecans, but was overall "meh" in flavor. The sausage, a single link, was good. The eggs were where I have praise and critique - it's often difficult to get eggs over easy done right, and they nailed it. However, the eggs themselves, flavor wise, were only "meh". read more

I generally think First Watch is overhyped, but my first (and only) trip to this location was pretty good. My biggest complaint is they don't provide fresh cream or milk for their coffee, just the individual creamers on the table. I don't understand why breakfast places do that. The coffee wasn't that great either. My friends both got pancakes, which are the size of your plate, so they let me have some. One of them got the lemon ricotta pancake. So. Good. I went for a bowl with sausage, potatoes, peppers and onions with cheese on top. It was pretty tasty and I didn't feel loaded down afterward. I had the chance to eat here again the other day, and I really miss having a convenient place like this around. A friend and I went in for brunch on a Saturday, and it was packed, per usual. The wait was less than 10 minutes however, probably because it was on the later end of "brunch time." I used to eat here a couple of times a semester during college and law school, and it was always an experience. I never had a bad time here, but sometimes the waits were just too long, and every once in a while, I found food to be slightly underdone. Not in an unsafe or bad tasting way, but in a texture kind of way. Maybe I was just being picky those days? They have a pretty wide selection of breakfast and lunch items, lots of egg dishes, omelets, sandwiches, salads, soups, etc. One of my only pet peeves has been the orange juice situation. You can order a small or a large orange juice, with no re-fills, so once it's gone, it's gone. I tend to drink a lot of juice at breakfast, so this was never that satisfying to me personally. A small thing, but one I remember. The atmosphere is unique, with "picnic table" style tables and "park bench" seating. I put those in quotes because that's the only way I know how to describe it. It's fun and lively, and the staff is usually quick and friendly (I've caught some on a bad day though..whoops). Overall, this is another Lawrence staple that should be experienced at least once. It's convenient, inexpensive, and high energy. Expect a bit of a wait, but nothing too crazy. I'll never turn down a suggestion to eat here. read more

So I'm going to.be a little bias here because my sister & brother work here. I was traveling through after attending a wedding in Missouri. We came in between breakfast & lunch so there wasn't much of a wait. And they were kind enough to let me sit in my sister's section. She was sweet & gave us a hug but didn't let our visit get in the way of her job & other customers. Mt oldest got the kids turkey sandwich & loved every bit of it. My husband and I go here at least two to three times a month for Sunday brunch. The food is always excellent, as well as their coffee and Morning Meditation drink! The service is fantastic, save for maybe one or two experiences in our few years of frequenting this restaurant. Getting in line via the First Watch app is well worth your time to do, because it's not uncommon to have a 30-45 minute wait on weekends. We always use the app and it saves headaches. AMAZING MANAGER!! Went in with my family for lunch today. We have been to one other location in Overland Park and enjoyed the service and food; so we were looking forward to trying this location here in Lawrence. My dad ordered Eggs Benedict- Florentine, my mom ordered the Club sandwich and a Cobb salad on the side, and I got biscuits and gravy, diced potatoes, and the Million Dollar bacon. The sandwich and salad came out perfect, however the Eggs Benedict, biscuits and gravy and bacon came out cold. The manager came out to check on the food and my dad mentioned that the food was cold. Without hesitation the manager tells the kitchen to remake the entire table. He apologized and kindly told us that he appreciated the feedback. Not only did he remake the food, but he gave us half off of the ticket. The food was excellent. This place goes above and beyond to make sure that the customer is happy. First thing first: Get their check-in app if you are coming in on Saturday or Sunday. This place is a favorite among KU sports teams which leads to large parties taking up several tables. The wait can be long, but with the app you can roll out of bed, check-in, get dressed and head out. The food is great, and aside from the occasional nervous trainee, the service is top-notch. My boyfriend and I always join his parents here, they come every Saturday morning! When we do join them this place is always a delight to be. They are friendly, most of the time it's open seating anywhere, many different options and substitutions for things. Especially dairy products, soy products, caffeine products, you name it! They always bring out a pitcher of water and coffee and are constantly refilling. Depending on the season they will have a specials menu and this time they had Chilaquiles as a special. My friends and I went here a few weeks ago to do a brunch meal together. At first I was hesitant, but as soon as they brought the food out, it was a good experience! They're the only restaurant who's cooked my eggs JUST right. And, that's not easy! Everything on the plate was wonderful and filled me up good. The only down side is they're open only until 2pm! If there were less stars I would do that. This used to be my favorite restaurant when I came home to visit my parents. Now I won't go back. My parents and I sat at the community table waited forever to be acknowledged and brought coffee. We had to ask for more coffee while we waited forever for our food. Once the food came out my waffle was cold and doughy, my "extra crispy" bacon was burnt and then the next round was under cooked. This is our spot for breakfast/brunch. I dig the omelets and pancakes. I like that everything is well made & good quality, but just standard American breakfast fare for the most part. Nothing for an unadventurous eater (like my husband can be) to turn up his nose at. It's a good compromise for us. Their menu cheapens the experience a bit by making them seem like a big chain (are they?) and the presentation is a bit lacking, but I've found the food great or satisfactory, depending on the dish. Went here one Sunday morning, while in town. The line was out the door. I thought we'd never get in. Luckily, some friends from the area had gotten there earlier. Let's cut to the chase: the menu is really enticing, and inexpensive. However, the portions are not as large as I would have hoped, and the potatoes weren't browned enough (for my taste). On the plus side, there's a funny booth with upright piano in the corner, and there's a guy that pounds out standards during brunch. If only they had a singalong, that would make everything gorgeous. This restaurant is a great place to eat. I'm on a low sodium diet and the waitress spent quite a bit of time helping me find something with low sodium. I was actually going to order something with the most sodium on their menu, but the waitress suggested that my not be the best item to order. She helped me find something that was a lot better for me. Most other restaurants could give a rip if I end up in the hospital or not, but First Watch is not like that. Okay, so how do you mess up biscuits and gravy? The 'sauce' on the biscuits was brown-ish, runny, greasy, and had a very odd flavor. Even the waitress agreed. I tried my friend's eggs, which were flavorless, and his pancakes. The pancakes were fine, but tasted like a boxed grocery store mix. We had a free sample of the kale tonic juice and I must admit that it was pretty darn good. The coffee, on the other hand, was bland and tasted watered down. After sending my biscuits back to the kitchen, the waitress said that the manager refused to remove it from our bill, then handed me a buy one get one free coupon for a meal. I politely thanked her, and when we left the building, I politely threw the coupon in the garbage bin. Who needs a coupon for a place they'd never visit again? read more
