A very charming little bakery just off the main drag in Lawrence. They have an impressive variety in their bakery display, and it was nearly impossible to narrow my options down to the top four to buy. The baristas were great at breaking down what everything was and what their top sellers were. Every single thing I got was delicious, and a special shout out to the dill pickle bagel. nobody is doing it like she is. There's not a ton of seating in the café and they don't have Wi-Fi. Some people were still in there working on laptops (I assume from hotspots) but I would say this is a better place to come if you want a delicious baked good and a screen-free hang. read more

I swear for the size Lawrence is as a town it has some insane food. I went to Cellar Door Cafe to catch up with a friend and was honestly blown away by the quality of the food here. First thing to note is Cellar Door is SMALL so plan accordingly, you might not get lucky enough to get a table (we were, but we also got there early). You order at the counter and they bring out your food. I had a pastry recommended by my friend an the cauliflower wrap. I'm still dreaming of the wrap to be honest. The cauliflower was perfectly roasted, the sauce was divine, and the bread? Holy cow they clearly make it in house - so delicious. My friend sent me home with a babka which was also stellar. Can't rave about this place more - just go here if you're in the area. I can't wait to return. read more

I just want to start out with I have an espresso machine. So I'm maybe picky or I just know what an espresso shot should taste. I ordered a double shot and it was so burnt I couldn't enjoy it. We take at least a weekly trip here for a post-yoga brunch. It's the best. The food is consistently good - especially love the chocolate babka, the sausage biscuit, and the financiers. So, out and about today checking Lawrence out, since I never truly have visited the area before, and found this little gem. I purchased a few treats, including tiramisu, which looked amazing. I also bought some canelés since I had seen a picture on Yelp, and they looked delicious. I will try to leave a review of these delectable sweets after I have tried them. The coffee shop part was a bit smaller than I saw images of. The seating area has distinguishment appearance, but with hard wood seats appears its only a temporary spot. There are no outlets for laptop charging, so this is mostly ideal to meet and great someone. I liked the vibe of the place. It had a creative high-end art school vibe. The service was very good, as the people here were very attentive (including some customers that were near by, who raved about this place, duly noted) an d the suggestions were a bit overwhelming, but in a good way. Yes, the tiramisu was excellent. The moistest tiramisu I've ever had. The Canales, however, were okay. They simply tasted like pudding bread. read more

Cellar Door has good coffee and that's about the only positive thing I can say about them. Ordered their bacon breakfast burrito this morning, took one bite and pulled out an entire piece of "bacon" that was nothing but fat. Absolutely disgusting. To top it off, they automatically charge a 20% gratuity to your order. You don't have a choice. Then they have the audacity to have a tip jar asking for additional tips. Totally ridiculous. Delicious baked goods, not the biggest selection but everything I tried was so good and high quality. Nothing was a disappointment. I had a za'tar bagel with cream cheese and it had a good chewiness to it. Babka is really nice and not too sweet, perfect to pair with a cup of coffee. We were not expecting this to be soooo good and we were shook! My partner and I were traveling through from Portland (you know how portlanders are about coffee), and decided to pre-order from Cellar Door for breakfast. I ordered a Bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich in a Za'atar bagel along with a rose cardamom latte. My partner got a bagel, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich on a dill bagel along with a toasted honey latte. Everything was so good and was ready when we got there (in a good way). The lattes were balanced and the flavors came through without overpowering the coffee and the bagel flavors were so interesting! I went here at about 1pm on a Sunday with my son. Super cute, cozy interior. We split the following items: Georgian honey cake, Za'atar Bagel (with cream cheese), and a chocolate Babka bun. Everything was great AND not too sugary (a problem with most cafe's). The Za'atar bagel was the star of the show: it's unique, savory flavors made it easily the best bagel I've ever had. One visit to Cellar Door is all you'll need if you loved, as do I, the old Decade Coffee in East Lawrence which has been shuttered (temporarily) until the pandemic is over. The owner has opened this gorgeous little space in the back of the newly remodeled historic business on the Southwest corner of 11th and Massachusetts Streets. Along with him, he's brought one of my favorite baristas in the city. Bam! Double that five-star rating, please. First dine today was, sadly, carryout due to the pandemic, but no muss/fuss. Got the vegan tacos loaded with tofu and marinated red cabbage and other love that was surprisingly wonderful (I'm not vegan, but sometimes play one in movies). Along with that a roasted cauliflower and lettuce salad with a sublime dressing, and for a little of the carnivore in me, a meatball sandwich on a wonderful whole wheat bread. Fantastic. Can't wait for the day I can dine in here. The space--the entire building, really--is a wonderful new upgrade to the south end of downtown, and the inside looks hip, inviting, somewhat urban, nice wood finishes. But it's the owner and his staff that made this a meal to savor and then some. Currently only open for carry-out on Thu/Fri/Saturday I believe. Why is nobody talking about the 20% mandatory gratuity on EVERY order even takeout? Want a babka to go? They charge you a dollar gratuity just to hand it to you. For those extra generous customers the business also provides a tip jar at the register in case that 20% isn't enough. You ruined a perfectly great bagel with the money grab.... read more

It was my dads birthday, and he lives there in Lawrence. I live in a different state. I called around to places, to see who could help me out, to make a little birthday pastry box for him to pick up. I couldn't find a delivery service like Uber eats etc. that picked up from any bakery there but no biggie. They were so helpful and sweet. They looked around for a candle, but couldn't find any. They said they could decorate the box for him, and say happy birthday with his name, and they did! He showed me and it was too cute. They explained to me how to order online so that I could visually see the pastries that I wanted to choose and order there, so it was fast and easy. And it accurately showed what was there and what was sold out- helpful. Flawless online ordering system, which I appreciate. And I was able to add a note to the order, for them so write on the box. I ordered a delicious flavored latte for him as well, and they let me know they would make it fresh and hot for him when he arrived, which they did! He said all of the four pastries were so delicious and such a nice birthday treat: Pecan tarte, canele, a cinnamon bun type thing (forget the name), and a unique layered pastry with apricot and I think pistachio filling inside in a triangle slice-- I forget the name, but he said it was delicious and so different. I almost chose the carrot cake tarte but I couldn't remember if he liked carrot cake. It looked great! He said a long time ago. He didn't have a great experience there with the customer service, so he was glad to have a great one this time and will be back to try more of their food and treats again. I am in love with this place! As a big fan of Decade, I had high hopes for Cellar Door. They do not disappoint. Tucked around the corner from Sylas and Maddy's, some might not realize there is a fantastic bakery and coffee shop down the street. Definitely stop in for a quick pastry or lunch. The first time I visited I got the chicken tacos and a cherry financier. (Read that with a French accent.) YUM. My friend and I both gasped after the food hit our tongues. "Oh my gosh, this is so good," was the exact phrase. Not only have they nailed the baked goods, but their food is a mix of local, homemade and artistry. The second time I visited I snagged a blueberry financier, a cinnamon roll, and an iced vanilla latte with oat milk. The cream cheese icing is a little slice of heaven. Just a note - they currently only have whole milk, cashew milk, and oat milk. The oat milk in my latte was great; I wouldn't have even noticed a difference from skin milk if I hadn't ordered it that way. Will definitely be back. The manager and staff are so amazing and sweet. However, when we went there was a young lady taking orders, and I think she would greatly benefit from some additional customer service/hospitality training.
