I don't know why this is rated in the 3's... to me, should be at the minimum a 4.0. It is pricey, no doubt, so that may be where the lower rating is coming from, with all things considered. Service - 4.5/5 - Every waiter and waitress was so friendly and happy to serve. The only reason for a .5 star off is because the service was a little slow to initially take our orders; however, they could have been short staffed, so either way, still great service. Food - 4.5/5 - The rock n roll was AMAZING... and I JUST came back from Japan, so me saying this really means something. I'd say the price is the only downfall, in terms of its overall value. It is quite big for a sushi roll, but still. If it was $10, this would be a 5/5.. the lower rating is literally just because of the cost. In old Montreal, there were few places we could go to that were open late. Late meaning that this placed was open until midnight. Most on a weeknight during the day closed at 10 so as tourists in old town , spots were limited so we were very happy to find this spot. First and foremost, you can't argue with the design of this place. It's lovely. The customer service from everyone working was spot on. I did notice an interesting clientele. Groups of young women and men sitting in tables having what seems to be a great night out. And it was funny that my partner pointed out the fact that one woman had gone up to another table offering her phone number. Then on the way out, I noticed a few hellos from different tables to other tables. So after reading the reviews I think I understand the social space here a bit more. But this aside, we came here for the food. I would agree with many. Things are a bit over priced and the flavours were okay. I can say the salmon tartar served on a coconut shell was our favourite. We also had the passion dragon maki roll. Definitely, a filling dish made with salmon, crab and shrimp. Tasty but not sure I would order it again. The last dish we shared, Big Shrimpin' was served in this cast iron pan in a red sauce made with espelette peppers. The cocktails list is by request. In other words, you tell them what you like or your flavour palette and they make it for you. That's fun but I do like to see what they have to offer in their own vision. I received a recommendation from one of my friends to come here as she loved the ambiance. Her instagram stories looked quite promising so I was looking forward to the place. Upon arrival, one waitress rushed to the entrance and bumed into another customer. No apologies were given and the family did not appear too pleased. What a wonderful start! In times of COVID I understand that places would limit you to a maximum of 2 hours service. I was aware of this upon booking. And upon confirmation of reservation, sitting down (for each and every guest), halfway through the meal and about 15 minutes before the end, which I will get back to. It was quite a cloudy and rainy day so not much natural light came in to the dining area so the place was quite dark: some electronic candles lit up the place greatly when it was 7 PM, but that did not last for long with the gloomy skies. I started with the Salad which was a delectable start to the evening: a fine balance of vinaigrette and delicious veggies. The sashimi was okay and the cut was kind of lack luster fresh-out-of-the supermarket packaging style. Overall, it was good. The tartare was to die for. They both had their strengths and it was hard to say which one is better. We also ordered a side of fries (not pictured) and the truffle mayo that came with it was amazing. The oysters were good: we liked them. It's hard to fail oysters. The maki rolls were a bit disappointing as they lacked some harmony and it just felt like a bite of a corner street poke bowl. We gave them a second chance and went for the Sumo Roll and the Sublime (we ate them too fast!). A notch higher than our poke bowl bites, but that's about it: severely overpriced in my opinion. We went for another salad because the taste of the first one left us begging for more. As we begun to dig into our salad this is where the stars started dropping off: We were first prompted by a young lady that it has been 2 hours and we should hurry up and leave. We politely told the staff that we should be finishing any time now and give us a bit of time. Afterwards, shortly after, a second employee, quite the authoritative figure he was, approached us from the back and basically told us to pack it up and leave in midst of our conversation. We felt like we had commited a crime against humanity: he was very intimidating. After a little bit of argumentation from both side, we had no choice but to leave as they urgently needed the table for 8 (we occupied half the table). Funny thing is that the other half of the table appeared to be in no rush and was told nicely about the policy, which they kindly brushed it aside as they took their time to enjoy their drinks. They sat down at around the same time as us. We got out of the restaurant after paying for our bill totalling up to 300$ and stood a few minutes to discuss abiut our frustration with some travellers from Toronto who were excited for a Fish Bone experience. We were quite frank and honest: we suggested some place else as the food was overpriced and mediocre at best, and with a service applicable to retail closing times. After conversing for about 25 minutes with this young couple, one of our friends noted that the table next to us was still seated and appeared to be in no rush to leave. All in all, I believe that a place like this attempts to keep itself afloat in the cutthroat environment of the old port by having a good reputation online via their marketing tactics which instead should be invested in proper service. I guess they really don't care about customers returning as they are basically being carried by tourists who superficially heard of Fish Bone. Needless to say, I won't be stepping foot here for a second time as I believe I can get as good food for, not only a fraction of the price, but rather a quasi-reasonable level of service and decency. Oh yes, also, one of our friends came late and said that his friends were already seated, but the staff was very dismissive simply because he forgot the name of who the reservation was under. I'll spare the snotty and rude remarks from this review, but I guess this was a hint to a terrible night of tragedies. read more

Bad 2 da Bone @fishbonemtl is the new badass upscale seafood supper-club in old-port. Jacky was feeling it in the nautical interior with the club vibe & the DJ makin' it pop. Service was impeccable! There is a sea of waiters. They also have coat check & valet but parking is a nono. Jacky had the tiger shrimp, spicy tuna crispy rice, salmon tartar, the rockn rolls, burrata salad, grilled octopus , blue cod with green string beans, filet mignon, asparagus, sautéed mushrooms, fries & drinks of course. If you want to eat well, without frustration order from the menu, avoid sharing menus at all costs. Unless you think cutting a steak in 8 and being served 2 lobster tails for 6 people (without serving utensils) is your idea of a good time. I laughed reading some of the reviews, particularly the 1 calling Fish Bone a meat market (but not for food). LOL Silly reviewer. This is a stylish, trendy restaurant cum bar with some of best looking people anywhere! And what's wrong with that? Nada. Great people watching. Our server was beautiful. Why fault Fish Bone for that? Fun environment, great ambiance and that certain Je ne sais pas. The food, yes it's overpriced. Yes, sharing doesn't do you any favors. But the quality is overall very good. The sashimi thinly sliced and delicately flavored was delish. The rock shrimp 1 of my favs. We ordered a couple of whole fishes for the table that were a little over-cooked so I'd give those a 2-3 stars but everything else was quite good. Overall a fun restaurant that turns into a hopping w/e bar. We had a table for 8 and service was medium attentive. She was a little pushy in the way that a server does when their primary goal is a big check and it's associated big tip. If it weren't for that, I'd give Fish Bone another star. Overpriced? This place is full of posers and hoes. It's really just for people who want to be seen. The crowd that comes here are wanna be influencers who only do it for the Gram. They definitely don't come for the food. But the sushi rolls and sashimi were flavourful and that's the only reason they get 3 stars. The other dishes we ordered weren't horrible but they weren't exceptional either. My advice to anyone coming here is to arrive later and just order drinks and enjoy the music (which was decent). I wish I didn't have to give a star in order to review this restaurant. If I could, I would give this place no star!!!! From the beginning the experience was terrible. We had reservations and the host did not seat us,instead he sat other people who came in last minute with no reservations -- then completely forgot to seat us and was rude. Once we sat, the waitress was not attentive and felt like we were being rushed. Friend and I ordered drinks, and I kid you not, these drinks were by far the worst drinks I have tasted in the city. We ordered an espresso martini (which I know for a fact was not an espresso martini because other people ordered them, and ours did not look anything like theirs). They gave us Baileys disguised as an EM. The other drink we got tasted like pure rubbing alcohol. We waited over 30 mins to order our food, and by then we were fed up and decided to leave. The waitress had the audacity to charge us 10$ for sparkling water despite the fact that the drinks and the service was absolutely garbage. I highly recommend to not go to this restaurant. Please save your money, and don't waste it going to this restaurant. I will never ever go back to this establishment. read more

Had a terrible experience with this place today. We came to this place to have a nice dinner with my family which we didn't get. The stuff was impolite and not caring and service was bad in general. It also adds up that it was my birthday dinner so I really adds more disappointment to the stuff work. We all ordered different things: my family got themself a fish with risotto and a catch of the day served with greens and fries. Regrettably, the greens that were a part of an order were served really too salted, the fries were not tasting good (my uncles guess were that it was an old oil), the fish with risotto was absolutely not salted, and the rice was done also weird: half of it was salted, half of it had no flavour at all. We told it to the stuff, in several times, they offered to change fries (which we politely refused), they also changed greens, but after all this hustle really there were no interest to the greens and fries. This meal was kind of ruined for them at this point. When we finished we were offered a desert as excuse for the poor offering, and we said no because we simply were not interested in desert at this place. However when the bill came in, there were nothing offered to settle the issue with the not eatable ruined meal. The waiter refused to give catch of the day for free, which sounds like a polite and correct thing to do in the situation like that, when the dish is just bad and the price of it is 50$. At this point we called for management and the guy offered to take off oysters (20$) of the bill, while they were actually fine and we wanted to pay for them. He refused to do anything with the ruined dish and was claiming that "I don't know what to do" when it is his job to know what to do. His other argument was that we were offered free which again we didn't want. So we told him that it is fine and we are paying whole bill because it is actually not about money but horrible service we got in this place. The guy left and waiter came, and next thing happens when my uncle wants to leave 0 % tip the waiter starts claiming that we are screwing him because he needs to pay % of the order to the rest and so he pays 8.5% from his pocket. Which is some sort of a scam. Thats just adds up to be the last part of the picture, presenting absolutely terrible service of people who really don't care about their clients and even lie to them. I just want people know that this place doesn't deserve the rating it has. And also, one thing, as far as I can find, it has been opened recently, (link below), however this and other rest accounts on other social media dates reviews back to 2014 which doesn't add up with the opening date in 2019. On Thursday, my two friends and I had a reservation at Fish Bone at 9:15. We showed up on time for our reservation and we were given a stand-up table when we had specifically requested a sit-down table. The table is located directly in front of the entrance. When we asked your hostess if we could have a sit-down able, she gave us an extremely rude response and told us that there were no other tables. We were unhappy, but we decided to sit down and enjoy our night. Once I sat down, the waiter asked me to get up and move in order for him to get cutlery from the drawer. This was when I decided to go up to you and ask if the manager one more time, if we could have another table. He politely responded "yes". However, your hostess with the buzz cut looked at him and motioned "no" with her hands as I was speaking to the manager. My friends saw the hostess do this and were appalled. We left immediately and went to Makro instead. We really did not appreciate the service. We were never treated with such pettiness and arrogance.
