We don't usually prefer KOA's but in this case we definitely make the exception.... This campground is located about 5 minutes from Whiteface Mtn and 15 minutes outside of Lake Placid. This was a last minute one night stay for us and we grabbed a 30amp pull thru W/E/S site. $64 a night. Our site was a bit small but again we reserved last minute the campground is very wooded with large private sites especially some of the 50amp and back in sites... there are Mountain View's and a trail that leads to the Ausable River and waterfalls.. High Falls Gorge is close by and definitely worth the trip. The service here was TOP NOTCH.. we were greeted as we pulled in to campsite and immediately escorted to our campsite; we did not have to check in and register until we were set up!!! The campground has laundry, stocked store, game rooms great playground and average size pool. They have a snack bar and cook to order breakfast in Adirondack style lodge in the morning ( eggs, pancakes, French toast etc was good and well priced) we ate outside on their deck overlooking pool. We will definitely be back... Only criticism is KOA's nickel and dime you for your kids... we have 3 and only 1 was included in campground price so we had to pay extra for our other two kids. read more

We chose to come here for to celebrate our 3 year wedding anniversary. The camp grounds is nice and very big. There are many sites to chose from. We ended up staying in a glamping tent. The glamping tent was nice and functional for what we needed. We enjoyed our site and it was nice and private. In the tent there are 3 rooms. The first room is the living room with a couch, built in end table with a lamp, a keurig coffee machine with 2 disposable cups and 4 different coffees to chose from, a broom, trash bin and a large cubby shelf. The next room is the master bedroom, there is 2 small end table, an alarm clock, 2 book likes and one overhead light, a large queen bed? With 4 pillows/a blanket/sheets, a trash bin, a shelf with a basket of two towels and some washcloths, and a mirror. In the other room there is 3 beds in a bunk bed style with a tiny table, 3 books lights, several wall hooks, a few more towels & wash cloths and a small closet structure with a few hangers. The two bedrooms close with a bike lock but the living room area does not have a way to lock. The tent can be open or kept closed. On the deck there is a picnic table and also at the site there is another picnic table, a propane grill, a fire pit with a metal grate as needed for cooking and 4 Adirondack chairs. We stayed at site GT-2. GT-1 is right next to our site but they are closer to the bathroom. I would suggest trying to get site 5 or 6, they are a little bit father from the bathroom but they have a view the the river from their sites. Within close walking distance to the glamp tent there is a bathroom structure with 4 single stalls with a toilet, sink, towel rack/ sitting area and a shower; there is also a space heater for cold days, shower doesn't get that cold. Bear the bathroom there is also a sink to do dishes that's out side. There is also pottable water at the glamp tent and there are outlets inside. The camp grounds: the grounds are huge. There is a walking trail on the river that leads to a waterfall. There is a dog walk that leads to a fenced dog park. There is a pool, small gift shop, main lodge area, two play grounds, and a game room. Hope this review helps! FYI: if you look at the map the two glamping tents GT-1 and GT-2 are actually placed wrong on the map. They are in the spot opposite where they are on the map so they are actually much more private then it looks. read more

Our family has been camping here every summer for the past 40 years. We couldn't believe it today when we heard from the front desk at check-out that they are closing this location for good at the end of the season (mid-October). No explanation was offered other than KOA purchased another campground less than a mile down the road (KOA Wilmington/North Pole) and that it would be the only option after this year. We went over to check out the "new" property and it is nothing at all like the KOA Whiteface. We just don't understand why KOA would shutter one of its most beautiful properties. What gives KOA?! read more

Overall impression of this place was very positive. I was visiting over a holiday weekend, and it wasn't overly crowded. Was pulling a 42ft 5th wheel (that'll come into play later). Lots of good to say about this place, and 1 not so good thing, so let's go. The good: -It's in a pine forest, so there are many beautiful, mature trees everywhere. -It's a big, sprawling complex with lots and lots of sites. Being in the Adirondacks, there's a big demand for tent sites, so there are more than you'd normally see at a KOA, but there are definitely more than enough RV sites as well. -The sites themselves (both RV and tent) are spacious and well shaded with big trees. Just about every tent site I saw was hammock-ready. Some of the austere tent sites are way down the hill next to the Au Sable river. They're a bit of a hike, but worth it if you're into that. -The facilities here are nice and well maintained. From the numerous bath houses to the recreation facilities, everything is kept in working order. The camp store is pretty nice, and has just about anything you'd expect to find in one. -The staff is super friendly and courteous, however, they actually enforce rules here. I've been to many campgrounds where they didn't, so this is a good thing. From speeding on campground roads to unattended barking dogs, they hand out notices. Not in a mean or obnoxious way, just maintaining order in the campground. That's not to say that the place is a madhouse. It's actually very laid back. I didn't notice any obnoxious late-night partiers. A very family friendly atmosphere. The not-so-good: Remember all those big, beautiful trees? There are large ones on the corners of almost every row, and if you have a larger rig, splitting those uprights can be a daunting task. We arrived after hours and had to negotiate this obstacle course in the dark. If you lead every turn exactly right, it's (mostly) doable, but difficult. At one point, we watched a triple-axle toy hauler do this same dance, only to get to their site and find that it was not physically possible to get into it because of how closely spaced the trees were. They had to go around the block to a different site. The strategic removal of one tree at the end of each of the tighter rows, and a select few in some of the sites, would likely alleviate the problem. Overall, quite pleased width this campground. Would visit again. read more

There is NO useful WiFi! I go to KOAs so that I am not completely isolated and can do what has to be done on the internet and then back to having fun. Extremely poor WiFi. I know that WiFi is only good for 100 but... I tried all over the camp and right next to their antennas at bath houses. Talked to employees who agreed that the WiFi is useless. I had to leave, with no refund, to get to a more honest RV Park. read more

Stayed in a cabin during the winter holiday season. It was new, very clean, the beds were comfortable and the sheets were white and crisp. The comforter was wrapped in two sheets and maybe a duvet cover would have been more appropriate, but it didn't impact our stay. We enjoyed our stay so much we extended it a day! My family and I stayed at Whiteface Mountain the last week in August. This camp offers so much for your family. They have campfire sites at each camping site, and lodge. Most of the sites have a patio table with chairs. More like hardscape furniture. There is a pool, hiking trails and playground. We stayed in a "lodge". It had pine lumber on all the walls which gave it a great lodge feeling but for all practical purposes it was a trailer home. Still nice just don't expect more than that. We stayed in N2 so heads up the water pressure was pretty lame. We'll be back next year. read more

Absolutely loved this KOA. When we first arrived to this campsite they were very organized, and escorted you to your campsite. They allowed you to get settled in before going in and checking in. The sites were huge and a lot of area. They had a lot of activities for families (pool, mini golf, snack shack, basketball court, dog walk, recreation game room). It has a little gem behind the campsite where you can walk to a waterfall and swim hole. Great place to relax. Close within 15 minutes of hiking, lake placid, and great restaurants. We didn't want to leave. If you don't have a camper they also have great cabins that you can stay in. We will definitely be back! We loved it here. read more

We camped at tentsite N19 which was at the end, near the trail to the Ausable River and even had the only view of the mountains in the campground. Everything was ok until after 11pm when a private residence had a loud party all night long. We obviously couldn't sleep and I walked to the office and to try and find a campground host, to no avail. I then called the police but was told by the state troopers that there is no town ordinance against noise at certain times etc. It was horrible as we had to try and sleep in our car with our puppy. We eventually went back into the tent but was up all night. The next day I told the staff about how we had to basically sleep in our car and obviously got no sleep due to the noise, and they were less than sympathetic. They didn't even want to change our site at first or accommodate us in any way. We were worried it might happen again on our last night but the staff said hopefully they are too tired and won't have another party. Could you imagine being told that! Very rude staff and not helpful at all. The bathrooms and showers were also gross and not very clean. Would never stay at another KOA again nor would I ever recommend this one! read more

My dad, brother, and I stayed at the Lake Placid/Whiteface Mtn. KOA about a week and a half ago (early July 2016). Ultimately it was between the campground at Ausable Chasm and this KOA. We decided on the KOA due to the convenience in terms of location (near Lake Placid and Saranac Lake) and there was simply more to do over the three days near here. The campground was clean, we were able to pitch three decent sized tents in one campsite, bathrooms were clean, water was hot, breakfast was available, snack bar was a nice touch, pool looked nice, etc. etc. They have tent sites, what appeared to be very nice cabins, and trailer hook up sites with electricity. Prices range by site type and presumably time of week/year. My favorite part of this KOA was the trail that kind of wraps around the perimeter of the campground. The hike was tougher than I had originally anticipated but proved well worth the extra work as I saw Ausable up close and personal. I would have loved to come back down and hung out in one of the calmer areas of the creek. I am taking one star off due to the ridiculous amount of rules. Apparently you can't even pick up dead branches off the ground for firewood. Needless to say campfires are few and far between at this campground, I don't know anyone who's willing to burn $6 on pre-packaged firewood. The general store is stocked with everything you can imagine, minus any type of alcohol. No beer for sale at this camp. All in all, a family friendly clean convenient yet commericalized campground in the Adirondacks. read more

I stayed here while traveling the great state of NY. The people who work the desk are very nice. Since it wasn't that busy when I rolled through, she only charged me for a tent site when I stayed in a nicer site. It's actually a nice KOA, but it's a bit overrun with trees and the roads aren't paved. So if you're heading to the bathrooms, you don't want to be going there with your flip flops. It's NY and it ain't crusty road ways like So. Cali. The bathrooms were aight. They weren't the most impressive in comparison to other KOAs, but they were satisfactory. Anywho, Lake Placid is a beautiful little town. I'd roll through here if you were lurkin' the Adirondack Mountains. read more

What a nice campground and cabin! I'm staying in a "Deluxe Cabin" that is very spacious, queen bed and bunk beds that would comfortably accommodate 2 adults and two kids. Big bathroom with a large shower. There is a small fridge, a microwave, flat screen TV and plenty of room in the cabin. There is a nice deck with table, chairs, barbecue and seating. The main lodge has a very nice well stocked store and the breakfast this morning really hit the spot. All of the folks working here are super nice and helpful. read more

I love this KOA. The location is prime, and the staff is super friendly. There are two cabins, and a few lean-to's right on the Ausable River, check out the map. These sites are very private for being part of a KOA. Nice river walk, playgrounds and dog walk. As others have said, the bathrooms aren't the best, but there are plenty of them and they are cleaned often. Not much you can do about muddy feet going in and out all day. read more

This is a solid choice for an RV stay in the Lake Placid area. It is very close to WhiteFace Mountain, and not too far from downtown Lake Placid (about 15 to 20 min drive). The campground was clean and well organized, and the staff was helpful and friendly. We stayed 2 nights in B06 and it was just fine. The sites are a bit close together, and could use some more of a barrier between RV's, but that happens a lot at campgrounds. The wifi was ok, and when it worked it was good, but it kept dropping out. When it worked it was about 4Mbs, but dropped about every hour or two for a few min. I suspect their system was just overloaded with too many customer devices. They need to upgrade their system a bit as it was better than many campgrounds, but could have been better. This is a nice KOA. Went in the fall as the leaves were changing and the area is great. Main office and store are fun and our cabin was nice. The bathrooms could use improvement. Some were better than others, so you could find a nicer one if you got to the restrooms at just the right time. It's just been my experience that KOA Kampgrounds have better than average bathroom facilities. NOT my experience here. The charm and beauty of Lake Placid made up for sub par bathrooms, so this place gets 3 stars. read more

We had a very bad customer service experience. We arrived around noon and the campground was relatively empty. The woman who helped us told us that check-in was 3 p.m. regardless of whether space was available or not. She tried to pressure us to make a donation if we wanted to check in before 3 p.m. It seems that they would be much more welcoming especially with an empty campground. read more

Great place- very family friendly! We stayed in a 4 person camping cabin. The cabins do have outlets and lights. The beds don't have actual mattresses, but more of a mattress "pad". Bringing your own linens (and maybe some extra padding) is essential. The bathrooms are questionable. I've been to numerous KOAs where the bathrooms are acceptable, but this one (the one near our camping cabin) could've been cleaner. But overall, I enjoyed my stay here and would definitely recommend it, ideally, to families with young kids who want a comfortable, less primitive camping experience. read more

We found out there had been a death of a KOA camper at the Ausable River two days prior to our arrival 7/5. The family had stayed at this campground. I learned about this tragedy through a stop at Eastern Mountain Sports. They had the courtesy to warn us about walking near the river due to an area flash flood warning, and that my nephew should not jump from the cliff across the river. EMS cautioned that the river was running high and dangerous. I understand that mentioning a death is bad business for a campground, but the lack of a general warning about a river trail that is featured on their campground map is unconscionable. read more

My family and I have been camping at this particular KOA for the past several years. It is outstanding. The sites are private (though they have the requisite RV sites on top of each other as well if this is your preference) with nice personal details you seldom find in big campgrounds. I like the seclusion and lack of paving. It is very close to the high peaks area which is important to us as we come once a year to climb and hike. Our dog loves this park (they actually cater to dogs, how unique!) The bathrooms are spotless with plenty of hot water and the kitchenette area is a nice touch for cleaning dishes and the occasional need for a range. We've been to other campgrounds in the Lake Placid area but have been very disappointed. Not here. It's also a short walk to the Ausable River gorge and a short walk to the Hungry Trout restaurant. read more

My family and I visit Lake placid often and usually stay at the adirondack loj. I love it there. This time we wanted a game room, pool, etc because my two boys are getting older so we tried the whiteface KOA. Big mistake! Game room, closed. Cafeteria, closed. Bathrooms, flushable porta- potties. Staff, not helpful. They charged extra for my wife, and my two boys. And we were woken by a chain saw and tractor 50 feet from out tent site. We stayed for one night and when we tried to get a refund. They refused until I insisted on speaking with the manager. If you want great tent camping, try the adirondack loj. read more

Great campground, bathrooms are clean, staff is great. Reading through the other reviews there seems to be a misunderstanding out there. Apparently when people booked at a campground they were shocked to see that it wasn't a hotel! Of course there are trees and unpaved roads... ITS CAMPING. If you want a luxury resort go else where.
