I have been to fish! a number of times over the past few years and it's a decent backstop if you are in this area and are in need some impromptu fodder. If you have planned ahead and you want to eat fish at Borough Market I would recommend Wrights Porter and Oyster bar which will give you wonderful food and a great experience at a similar price. I turned up at fish! this Saturday with six other chaps who had joined me on the stroll along the river from Richmond to our destination, Borough Market. After a pint at the Rake we felt the need for some fish and chips so, it being a Saturday night, fish! was our only realistic choice of getting a walk in table anywhere near Borough Market unless we fancied a curry. When we arrived the restaurant was almost empty so it was no problem being found a nice table despite being rigged out in our urban walking gear. Even with its conservatory type feel, the acres of glass and a kitchen fully open to the dining room this in not a restaurant I would call swanky or a destination type place. If you are looking for a special occasion venue, or somewhere for a romantic rendezvous, this would not be on any short list of mine. However, it's a pleasant enough space although it has no real soul and is a bit lacking in atmosphere. In the main I would say it is frequented by tourists, out of towners and locals who find themselves in Borough in need of some food to keep them going through the evening. Having said all that, and dammed with faint praise, it suited us boys well enough after an 18 mile walk. Cod, chips and mushy peas all round was the order of the day once we had managed to catch the eye of our underemployed but still quite charming waitress. After only a short wait, quite a bit of which seemed to be spent on the pass while the waiting staff got themselves together, our fish supper arrived and it was a pretty decent meal. The fish itself was a fresh, chunky fillet enclosed in a tasty batter, which if it had been left in the fryer just a moment longer would have been overdone. The chips only rated an ok, no problems but nothing to write home about and I even left a few. However, the mushy peas were damn fine and drew murmurs of admiration from the two Northern lads who were in our party; trust me I think these boys would know a good mushy pea when they tasted one. At £15.95 for fish and chips this is bordering on the eye watering in terms of price but the quality and the location was good. We washed this down with a couple of bottles of the house white which was fine but pretty bog standard. The boys grudgingly saying that it was a decent fish supper and it should be at that price as we trudged through the Market for a nightcap at the Porter seemed to sum up the experience very well. read more

Really tasty! I really like the thick cut fries but wished I got some tartar sauce for my fish! The food came out at a decent time and it was served piping hot with a nice crunchy outside texture and soft juicy inside. We came after the market was closed so there was no line. They do have a seating area, but it was all filled. The fish and chips came in a box so we were able to just take it and fine a curb to sit on. The condiments and such are located on the large table where people were eating, so it was a bit awkward to interfere with their space for ketchup.... I think these items should be put on a tall table so that people don't need to get into each other's face... i found the price to be fair for the amount of food we got. We only shared one and it was doable... if you aren't starving. I wouldn't call the service friendly but they aren't rude, just very quick. It seems like if you become a regular they'll treat you like family.... if you plan to come just be prepared to find seating elsewhere.... or go into the restaurants right next door. Fish!, set in the middle of the bustly Borough market exceeded my expectations. We had lovely outside seating and a personal friendly waiter who gave us help with the wine list. We had a very nice Riesling to start with our oysters, smoked salmon and devilled whitebait. The oysters were very fresh and served with shallot vinegar- lovely. Our maincourses were light and fresh, you can either have a set dish or select your own fish, how its cooked and which sauce to serve it with. I had monkfish, which was plainly grilled with salsa verde on the side and steamed carrots, corguette and chicory. Very good! We ordered a second bottle of the Riesling but it wasnt as cold so they kindly bought us a bottle of the more expensive Pouilley Fume for the same price. Over all its a great place to eat whether it be a casual lunch, a business meeting or a romantic al fresco treat. read more

Always fresh fish on the menu. In Borough Market so you can pop in after a bust morning/afternoon of shopping. Standard fare of English food, with accents of the Mediterranean in the garnishes. Great sticky toffee pudding. read more

I came here with my boyfriend while on vacation, for some fish and chips! We actually got fish&chips at the fish! stand next door inside the borough market earlier in the week. Then on our last day in London, we decided to eat inside the restaurant. We had an early reservation, so there was nobody inside, and were seated right away. I actually ordered a tuna burger which was amazing, and my boyfriend ordered beer battered cod & chips, which was delicious just like the one we had from their stand. I read somewhere that this restaurant had one of the best fish&chips, and I most definitely agree. If you're in London, and craving some fish & chips, I'd recommend this restaurant! read more

Perhaps it was because I went in to my trip thinking that London would be expensive, I didn't have the same reaction to the price that many of the reviewers here have. Maybe there are better places in the city to get fish and chips at a better price, but as a tourist, there's no way I would know where they are. I got the catch of the day and it was exactly what I came looking for - fish was cooked nicely, the batter was seasoned well, and the chips were hot and crispy. It was very good! Fish was fresh but the batter lack flavor a little to subtle for my taste and the abundance of tourists hoarding the condiment bar didn't help, since I wanted to add some vinegar to my fish. Came across Fish!, National champion of Fish and Chips, fancy kitchen in the middle of the restaurant, chic, stylish and friendly staffs. Fish & chips and set dinner menu £25 for sardine on toast; while lemon sole with hollandaise, finish with apple crumble, feels like a bargain. Thick piece of cod wrapped with crispy batter, no point describing how good it is, it is a winner! The grill lemon sole is fresh and that's probably all I can say to that, hollandaise was surprisingly lack of flavor, imo. 4 is fair I think! read more

To be honest, the fish and chips is quite ordinary. However, that is sometimes the best way to have it. Deep fried fish plus some crunchy fries really hit the spot when you're hungry. My advice is not to eat it for dinner as it's heavy and not so healthy. Well, eat it once a week and you'll be fine. What a lot of these reviews fail to mention is that there is the posh restaurant section where you need to shell out 15 quid a fish and chips meal, but there is also a outdoor stand with about 4 seats outside or for takeway. The fish and chips in a box is about 7.50 which by most fish and chip stands is above average in price, but I can definitely say that its one of the best fish I've had at a stand. Fish! Is located in the heart of Borough Market, just near London Bridge station. I've been here a couple of times and the food has been really great: the fish is super-fresh and tasty, fairly reasonable priced,and the staff are always really nice. Good wine list, beers and spirits, great decor and a really easy-to-follow menu. You can choose the way your fish is cooked, and Fish! boasts the best mushy peas around. i would like to give this place another chance but sadly, i was only visiting London for a week and only had one chance to come here. My friend and I stopped in to grab a quick snack to share and ordered the fried calamari. While it was well seasoned, I pretty much was chewing on sand with every single bite. Just had lunch here today and enjoyed it a great deal, even though it was quite pricey. It was chilly and raining and I didn't have a reservation, but even though I showed up at the height of the lunch rush the hostess was very gracious and managed to find me a seat at the counter. That was great because watching the cooks on the line was excellent entertainment. The food was equally excellent. I had fish (cod) & chips with mushy peas. A huge, crispy, freshly-fried piece of fish occupied half of the plate, while excellent chips occupied most of the other half. Flavorful, hot, and fresh. What more could you want? Go here one in a while to catch up with friends the fish is the best quality you can get in London. I had Calamari with rocket and lemon mayo, and the lobster with chips as a main which was pricey but worth every penny.
