Okay, my girlfriend and I saw Fishpop on IG and she really wanted to try it, so we came here today. We live on the west side, so it was like a 30 minute drive, but that was our choice, so I digress. It's in a food hall, we scanned the QR code at our table and ordered just one order of the spicy fish and chips. The regular order was $20 and the "spicy" was $22. FYI, the spicy is a bit of chili powder sprinkled on it, for $2 more LOL. Wasn't spicy at all besides the red coloring, haha. Past that, we ordered through scanning the QR code. We waited about 15 minutes for our food, no issue, we figured it was cooked to order and GOOD food should never be rushed, right? Dude. I'm not picky, I swear. The waiter/server brings our food to our table, we only got the one order because we wanted to try it before we bought another, given that it was $24 after tax, and $28 after tip. Though, not sure what I really tipped for now. They gave us ONE big square piece, the one in the picture, and ONE Raising Cane's-sized tender along with it, with a handful of fries. The big piece of fish was DRIPPING with oil, seriously just DRIPPING. I could feel my blood thicken and my estrogen rise just looking at it. Dude. We paid $28 for this?? ONE piece of decent fish and ONE piece of a half-breed between a chicken tender and a fish stick, DRIPPING with oil. The fries were seriously the only good part. The tartar sauce was okay. Do not be misled by their videos on Instagram. Pete's Fish & Chips blows this out of the water. Any other fish place blows this out of the water, jesus christ man. I usually don't leave reviews, but man. Fish Pop, if you're going to sell a $22 tray of TWO fish pieces and a FISTFUL of fries, at least don't leave it dripping in oil. I swear, you guys got a spoonful of the fryer oil and just splashed it right on top of the whole tray. It took 5 whole napkins to even be able to somewhat soak it up. Anyways, I do not recommend. French fries are not nearly as greasy and are tasty (better than the taste of the fish batter) and the peas served as a side are unique and interesting. They are still trying to figure things out as the experience is a bit clunky . . . sodas are self serve, but for the tea you have to get the host at the front door to go into a kitchen to get it for you. Hands down, best fish and chips I have had in the valley. Massive portion. Hint of curry in the batter blows all other "good" fish and chips out of the water, pun intended. I was there late Sunday afternoon, the vibe was cool, but it was pretty empty. Service is good for what it is, it's mostly self serve, with a hostess to make sure you understand how it works. The only knock, the smallest default tip is 18% for a not full service experience. Stopped by Fish Pop inside Tempe Eats after a workout at 24 Hour Fitness. I actually found it through an Instagram ad, and I'm glad I did! Teresa was super welcoming and suggested I try one of their draft beers I didn't this time, but now I've got another reason to come back. Tempe Eats is set up kind of like little pods or stations, with different restaurants tucked inside. It's easy to miss from the outside, especially if you're searching by restaurant name instead of the Tempe Eats sign but once you find it, it's super cute inside. I ordered The OG fish and chips the fish was crispy perfection, and the fries were really solid too. As a foodie, I can't give it a full five stars though because the sides fell short. I happened to catch fish pop in their DT Phoenix location on McDowell. As you walk into the restaurant the pop up area is right there, can't miss it. The restaurant was closed, the fish pop people are the only ones there during the day. So Fish Pop is an off shoot of the Chix Pop restaurant, and all they make is fish n chips. You can get it with spicier seasoning ( wasn't spicy to me, it had a Cajun flavor) or plain. This was made perfect imo, breading was seasoned just right and the fish wasn't overcooked at all. Finally got to try Fish Pop after hearing about it for sometime! We went in on a weekday and luckily it wasn't busy so we didn't have a long wait. We ordered the original fish and the spicy butter fish. I will say it's a bit pricey. The original is about $20 and the spicy is about $22. With tip, we ended up paying $50. I will say though, they give you a big piece of fish! It was crunchy, fish was flaky, and was steaming hot. The original is good. The spicy butter seasoning tasted sort of like a mix of Cajun and a tiny bit of sweet barbecue, and I liked it! Fries were also good. Maybe a little soggy since the fish was sitting on top of the fries, but I don't mind slightly soggy fries. Each dish was also served with a little side of peas and their sauce (which was amazing! The line here was about 10 people deep when we arrived last night for dinner and we waited about 25 minutes before we could order. We didn't know that they only accepted Zelle, Venmo, and or cash so it took us some time to provide proof of payment at the register since we were going to use Zelle and Venmo. I've already submitted a review on the Tempe Eats Food Hall & Bar and following up with the specific reason we were brought here...which is the pop-up called Fish Pop. We had seen a story on the local news about the chef and his pop-up experience and because we love fish & chips, we were down with visiting. Instead of ordering via the QR Code for the other restaurants making up this hall, we went directly to the window for Fish Pop. They had two things on the menu, their Fish & Chips original along with a second version they called Spicy Butter. We ordered one of each just to give both a try. As many others have already reported, we really didn't notice a spicy tone with the Spicy Butter but both fish dishes were done to perfection. Not greasy in the least, but tender white fish encased in a light batter and fried to goodness. The dish comes with their seasoned fries along with the chef's version of mushy peas. Ok, before you turn your nose up...give this guy's version a chance. OMG! They were not mushy, they were cooked perfectly with seasoning and were just so good. We could have made a meal of those peas! So we had to look up the story behind the peas being served with fish & chips and turns out that is a thing in northern England. I saw many pictures of actually mushed peas as I was researching and we both agreed that they version we had may be the best! Not sure what the seasoning is he uses, but man-oh-man...they were delicious! And the tartar sauce isn't your traditional white mayo...so much flavor and really wonderful with the fish! I've seen videos on Fishpop all over TikTok and Instagram lately, so as soon as they moved into a space where customers could line up indoors and out of the heat, I made a plan to visit. We ate there on a Wednesday evening and the line to order was about 10 people long. There was also an area off to the side where people were waiting for takeout orders. We waited about 20 minutes in line, so not too bad. After we ordered, we found a table and waited about 15 minutes for our food. Seen this place originally via Instagram, so I took the opportunity to check it out. In general, this is Food Hall concept that offers a full service bar, I believe. Since I do not drink I cannot say for certain. But I did notice a wall of beers on tap next to the soda machine. Upon entering, I was immediately greeted by a hostess that explained it was an open seating, it's a fairly large facility that also offers some patio type seating. There is also a condiment bar, that offers minimal items with to go sauce cups. Once you pick your seating, you can simply scan the QR code to order or place your order at their POS tablet/screen. I opted to order from this vendor and got their basic plain fish & chips/fries. I figured if their basic was good, I would return to try their spicy butter version. Once my order was delivered, I immediately noticed that the fried fish was still hot, very crispy and still moist & flaky on the inside. The fries were extra crispy and lightly seasoned. It also is served with what they deem as mushy peas & a really good tartar sauce. The tartar sauce was tangy and flavorful. The hostess followed up by offering packets of malt vinegar. I'm so glad Fishpop extended their stay at Tempe Eats Food Hall through the end of July. I was finally able to make it there today (Monday) to try it. My friend and I got there at 4pm. We were ahead of any after-work / dinner crowd, so there was plenty of parking right in front and on the side of the building. Behind it is an LA Fitness already with a nearly full parking lot. The inside looks very clean with plenty of seating including a bar with TVs. There was someone sitting by the entrance letting us know to sit anywhere and order food by scanning the QR code at the table or by using the kiosk. I think you can also order directly at the counter of each vendor. We ordered using the QR code. It was very convenient in that it lists all of the vendors and their food options, so you can place an order with multiple vendors at the same time. We both got the Fishpop Original Fish & Chips. It took less than 10 minutes to get our food. Both the fish and chips/fries were lightly seasoned and crispy. The fish was burning hot, so be careful! I tried the side of peas after finishing the fish, and it was kind of nice to cut through the greasiness of the meal. I've never liked tartar sauce, but I tried theirs anyway because it looked like it was made from scratch. It just had too much dill for me. My friend enjoyed it and finished two servings of it! If I'm being honest, Fish Pop is way overrated and not worth the price. I heard so much hype about how it's the best fish in chips in Arizona and decided to finally go check it out. We ordered one original and one spicy butter and it came out to about $45. Took about 15 minutes for the order to come out. Way too greasy. It was hard to finish because the amount of grease seeping out of the fish. The fish was flakey and moist at least. Didn't really care for the spicy butter flavor, it really didn't feel like a great addition but costed more. I think overall the seasoning needs to be better. I will say it is great that everything comes out hot and fresh. The fries are good. The peas are flavorless and cold. Not even mushy. I liked the tartar sauce, I finished the whole little container.
