i've been itching to try some authentic jamaican food ever since my family and i moved out here, and this spot definitely fit the bill! my mother actually bought home food from here (for her and i) during this visit. i got the curry chicken with white rice and veggies, and it tasted pretty great. all it needed was a slight pinch of salt and maybe some hot sauce, but otherwise i loved the meal from start to finish. i can't say much about the service considering my mom got it from the food truck while i was at home, but you can definitely tell that the cooks put their heart and soul into their food. the portions here are HUGE and i still have enough leftovers for lunch tomorrow! read more

Yes, this is a food truck. I was aware they would be in Tempe when we were there, so we made a point of stopping for lunch after an appointment. I, of course, ordered the jerk chicken. Had Island Boyz food truck for the first time today and it was spectacular. The flavors were delicious and robust and everything was cooked perfectly. We ordered the Jerk chicken and the Shrimp rice bowls. We also got plantains and a beef patty which were all cooked to order. The patty was flakey and delicious and cooked just right and not too doughy. The chicken was juicy and flavorful. The shrimp was plump and big and charred perfectly. Had the jerk chicken and jerk shrimp plate and both were very good. There are not many Jamaican food places near the Laveen area so whenever Island Boyz is in the area it is always a nice place to satisfy those Carribean cravings! Only downside is there is not a bigger variety of Jamaican food available. Being that they operate out of a food truck may very well be the case but maybe one day they can serve up some oxtails :) read more

Aye i'm not even gonna lie I was overly disappointed. All my coworkers had bought the food and told me it was good so i was really excited. I'm not even too sure about the 3 stars. My girl had the jerk chicken burrito and it was too spicy for to eat it. And at $13 it should at least be digestible. I got the jerk pork for $20 for a small plate. TWENTY DOLLARS for lunch!!!! Ridiculous...3 stars....ahhhh! No going to 2. The pork was chewy and over cooked. I grabbed a couple of beef patties today while the truck was in my office complex. I didn't realize they had taken them off the menu and only had 2 but they graciously hooked me up with them when they could've just told me they were out. So, 5-stars on the customer service, right there. Those beef patties were DELICIOUS!!! They're in a little pastry thing, like a cross between a pot pie and a cornish pastie. Man, they were good! I ordered from island boys on New Year's Eve and was craving oxtails, rice and beans with the fried plantains. I ordered my wife the jerk shrimp. When we received the meal it was cold, cold and it wasn't worth the $29,$21 paid for the meals. The flavoring was alright however the rice and peas were hard. The shrimp was tough as though it was over cooked. The plantains were pretty good. I believe that they were the highlight of the meal. The food was VERY bland and rice made up 3/4 of the plate. I ordered the Curry Chicken, spicy and the dish was very dry, the rice was gummy and everything was an unappealing color of grey. The cabbage side was also not tasty. I would not recommend this restaurant. The food was neither tasty or authentic Jamaican food.
